Kenton was listening on what his other fellow Omega Squad members thought was going on. There were still some other things that needed to be addressed, but Zeph still had a way of keeping things vague, despite making it clear that he intends to have everyone kill each other. Kenton allowed Hare to explain her thoughts on how Zeph mentioned to hijack their CR sets.
The idea that they were in a different CR server does work. Kenton and the others were standing in their school, but everything in cyber reality can be made into a copy of itself. To put it in broader terms, they were stuck in a private server. How they were going to get out would take some time from both Hare and Xtra.
"This isn't something the Luddites or all the other-CR groups would do. There is the extremists, but they would be showing their message down their throats, even if they might end up as hypocrites. Plus, even if it was the Luddites, the most likely thing they do is to take out a CR data center." Kenton talked about the mention of it being political activists, but Kenton had enough evidence to prove that wasn't the case.
Along with that, why protest against ego-shooters, when they were already being restricted from CR?
But what the hell was Initiative Earth?
"Initiative Earth does sound like some random radical primitivist group, but I think what's happening is that it's just like SAO." Kenton backed up Hare's mention of that anime.
"Why make a statement, when they give us all of these video game and pop culture references?" Everyone already know about the portal gun and there was the hentai gun that Xtra had. Even Pac-Man was too random to be political. "Zeph might be part of a group of low-life hackers. If he has help, then it explains how he got his hands on some trojan hacks to keep us here in their server. We still need to keep our guard up. The worst thing that can be about Zeph is that he wants to put complete control and power over us. He is striking me as the type that wants to play God, so he got his other script-kiddie hackers onboard to make that a reality. He could be a liar, but he has other things up his sleeve here." Kenton wasn't no profiler, but he can tell who was a basement-dweller loser, when they put on an overbearing example on dictating who does what. How Zeph has friends is beyond Kenton's imagination. Or how he is able to convince them to have some of that supposed CR-using death programming to fry people's minds.
"Does it include neon green?" Kenton asked Xtra, when she presented some spray can. Tagging wasn't something Kenton did, but it was good to mark some territory. It looked like Xtra only had bright green, but whatever. Kenton allowed Xtra to toss him a spraycan.

Vee stood and listened, arms crossed and head nodding when appropriate. It was tempting to interject, but for now he let his teammates speak their minds. Get their thoughts and concerns out in the open as he pondered their next move.
Speculation was all well and good, but sooner or later they needed to take action. Come up with a gameplan of some kind, take control of their situation. After all, he... They had a key advantage that the rest of their class didn't: Each other.
"Red" was his brief response to Xtra's query, raising his hand to catch the spray can before taking the metaphorical stage.
"Alroight, lads..." he began, briefly adopting a faux cockney accent. "Right now we haven't a clue what's really going on, but as Xtra pointed out we need to treat this like its the real deal. To that end, there's a couple things we need to sort out..."
He shook the cannister in his hand as he addressed the team, standing tall to exude an air of authority.
"First things first, we need to find Arch and Amy. Make sure they haven't gotten themselves in trouble..." he continued, a hint of concern in his voice. Whilst Vee felt confident that Angel could look after himself, he couldn't say the same about Amy. She was always more of a programmer than a cyberjock, easily the least experienced when it came to CR games like Cybertag. Went without saying that she'd struggle the most on her own in a game like this.
"Secondly..." Vee continued, sauntering towards the big empty space that was once occupied by the room's whiteboard. He shook the can some more before hastily spraying a large red omega symbol, marking the wall with their logo. "We need to find ourselves a base. A nice little spot to call our own, establish a fallback point or two. Ideally somewhere a little more, uh... Accommodating" he said, vaguely gesturing to the classroom's emptiness.
"Lastly..." he continued, slowly making his way back towards Kenton, slipping the spray can into a jacket pocket before reaching for his machete. "We oughta make sure that we're making the most of the tools at our disposal, share and distribute accordingly."
Vee slowly unsheathed his machete, before pointing it at Kenton's chainsaw. "As you said yourself, it's going to be a hassle lugging that badboy around. So how's about we do a little swaparooni? Imagine it'll be a helluva lot easier for you to have this as a back-up instead..."
At that point, he turned the machete around in his grip, offering Kenton the handle in exchange for his teammate's chainsaw.

So no one was going to address the weird inherent creepiness of her getting a Pac-Man costume as if it weren’t some kind of implied threat? But enough of that.
“You know me, I’m a blue girl,” Winter said, her blue skirt rustling as she reached for the can.
They could be anything. They could be weirdo Luddites, weirdo hackers, weirdo red room pedos, any brand of weirdos who would for some reason go this far and do… this. But Vee was right, they needed to focus on the big stuff first.
Arch was out and about, somewhere. That meant that she needed to grab her FuguFish accomplice for… gosh, she didn’t know, more crimes. Yellow pufferfish can’t program themselves, she giggled internally. Mostly as a coping mechanism. She was responsible for him, and Amy too. The only relevant qualification for their home base was that it be distinct and easy to locate. Oh, perhaps the others would disagree and concern themselves with things like fortification, but with tools in play like Spook's portal gun, even the typical dubious level of CR structural certainty was rendered moot. In some ways, it might be better to place themselves somewhere blatantly not defensible, so that they were motivated to stay on their toes.
But maybe that was getting ahead of themselves. After all, it still remained to be seen what their goals for this experience even were.
Aside from a few they could all agree on, that is.
"I've shared my gear," Xtra said with a shrug. She wasn't too worried about the precise division of their assets. Although...
"Want to see if you like this one better?" she said, holding the gun with its many eyes and tongues out to Hare, barrel carefully pointed away from everyone. It wasn't a big deal if she wasn't down for the trade, though the more traditional pistol certainly held a semblance of dignity that Xtra's assigned equipment somehow lacked.
"I do agree about finding the others," she said. "Maybe pair off?"
That would be Vee's call, ultimately—if Xtra were to allocate their resources, she'd take one of Spook and Vee and leave the other with Hare, such that both parties contained a member equipped for melee and one equipped for ranged combat. But maybe that was too tactical. Whatever they'd been told, it was to be hoped that they would not need to engage in serious violence at all.
"And remember," she added, casting her gaze back to all the others, "paint isn't just for marking. You don't want it in your eyes."

As for the weapons that they currently have? Vee was willing to haul around that chainsaw around. Kenton did see the value in having a better melee weapon. Especially one that looked like it can just be holstered by his side. Kenton grabbed the handle of the machete. "Good call, Vee." See if the Anime Club's been left in one piece..." he began, quietly observing the distinct lack of furniture in the room. "Xtra and I will explore the rest of the east wing, see if we can find any trace of Arch or Amy."
He glanced over at the portal in the wall, an idea springing to mind. "Hmm, might I suggest you leave one of these in place if you can. Leave yourself a fallback point, not to mention save me and Xtra the trouble of venturing through no-man's land once you've both secured a base."
On that note, Vee dropped down onto one knee, unzipping his bag to put away his spraycan. "Oh, and one last thing..." he added, before reaching in to pull out a blue walkie talkie. "Bit primitive for my liking, but hey. Looks like lady luck is on our side."
He tossed Hare the blue walkie talkie, before passing Kenton and Xtra the yellow and orange one respectively. After which he clipped the red onto his belt and slung his bag over his back, reaching down to lift up the chainsaw and test it's weight. It was hefty and unwieldy, no doubt about it, but felt a helluva lot more empowering than the machete did.

Xtra busied herself with the rest of the exchange—there was ammunition to attend to, after all, all modeled in its individual magazines, a nod to realism that felt more than a little farcical in light of the portal gun in play, but she assumed that their captors had some reason behind their choices. Of course, there was every chance that reason was simply that they had collected assets from various disparate sources rather than creating them bespoke, and that consistency was not one of their priorities.
"If you want to swap back, just say the word."
The anime gun fit Hare more anyways, Xtra thought. Not in any sort of way that insinuated anything—she had less than no interest in or knowledge of whatever romantic escapades her friend might or might not engage in, be it in CR or (ick) meatspace—but because Hare had her off-kilter sense of humor, and this was a tool designed to wind others up through psychological warfare almost as much as it was to kill them. For Xtra, it worked against her image and stylings. For Hare, it fit like a glove.
But of course, if Hare wanted to trade back, it would happen. No questions asked. That was teamwork.

She tucked the orange can of paint into an accessible pocket, then thumbed the walkie-talkie's call button, sending a quick beep to any of the others that were powered on. Xtra knew how a walkie-talkie worked. She'd even used one in meatspace a couple times, at her sister's behest. She'd found the experience unexceptional, but was now grateful for the knowledge it had conveyed.
"You can't hear while you're speaking," she said. "Traditionally, when you're done you say 'over' so that others know that they can speak."
She looked around at the others.
"We should test range as we move out."
A glance specifically to Vee, now, to see what he thought of her ideas. She was ready to venture forth, as soon as he gave the word.

"Unable to cancel out portals, just like in the game. I'll keep my trigger finger away from shooting another blue portal, but you need to be careful with this type of fallback point." If someone wasn't careful, all that was going to be left of them was just half of them.

"The only thing we know for certain is that there's nobody out there more ready for this than us. Come hell or high water, long as we remember who we are, I've zero doubt we have what it takes to see this thing through to the end."
There were, of course, a couple questions left unsaid. What do they do once everyone's reunited at a base of operations? Do they play along with Zeph's game or try to fight back? What happens once they were the only ones left standing?
For now, Patrick was content to let those elephants remain hidden in plain sight. Kick that can down the proverbial road until they were better organised.
"Alright, Omegas..." he continued, putting his hockey mask back on and hoisting his chainsaw over his shoulder. "Let's fuckin' roll"
At which point, Vee gestured for Xtra to follow him as he ventured off with a confident swagger.

"Hmm, either works. Leave that one to you and Hare" he responded with a shrug. "Keep your guard up either way, we've no idea what to expect out there. Bet there's plenty of surprises waiting in store for us..."
He stood before his teammates, looking each of them in the eyes, before the corner of his lips curled into a half-grin. "The only thing we know for certain is that there's nobody out there more ready for this than us. Come hell or high water, long as we remember who we are, I've zero doubt we have what it takes to see this thing through to the end."

Winter laughed and winked. Then saluted.
But for now, she was pumped. Now all they needed was to grab Amy and Arch, and roll out. She was good with that, and she could roll out literally, too, what with the heels and all.
It felt nice to have something arranged. She was sure she could just grab the two, hang out in the anime club, and wait for…

Eh, maybe the gay hacktivists Zeph was so worried about will come in. Kind of weird and specific, was he anti-gay, too? On top of being a creep and a possible weirdo red room person and a possible weirdo hacker and a possible weirdo Luddite?
It helped to insult him in her thoughts, and call him a weirdo creep in jest. It helped to distract from the very real possibility that he was a weirdo, just one working with other weirdos.
But she turned towards the door, rolling at a pace that let Kenton keep up.

That was all that needed saying. Xtra took in her friends, considering their optimism and wondering whether it was misplaced. Or was it simply false bravado?
They still hadn't had a conversation about their long-term plans. For now, their attention was turned exclusively towards recovering their missing comrades and establishing a base of operations. It was good enough. Safe. But it delayed the inevitable, and the longer that was delayed, the more potential there was for disagreement and hurt feelings.
She would talk to Vee about it in private, she decided. They had the perfect opportunity, and once she knew where their leader stood, the rest would come clear. He was the shotcaller, and they were used to following those calls. He rarely steered them wrong. They were equipped for this, with gear perfect for teamwork and a cooperative attitude. Their greatest danger was themselves, and together she and Vee could be proactive about that.
With a wave, Xtra set off after him, footsteps quiet against the floor, weapon held low at her side but ready to rise at any moment.

Kenton tried to share the sarcasm with Hare, as they set off towards the anime club. Hare was making sure that Kenton was keeping up with the pace, though Spooks had the machete ready to defend their 6 o' clock.
"Our tails are covered. If we're lucky, we might be able to get Amy and Arch along the way."
