Walk Away

Her hips went from the left to the right, the movement smooth, but quick, right with the beat.

She turned when she thought necessary, finding it perfect to do so when the singer put extra emphasis on a certain word.

Her head snapped to one side, ponytail whipping the other way, adding extra flair for the end of a sentence as she twirled in place.

To anyone watching, she looked like she was having fun, moving to the beat while keeping the wheels moving under her feet. And it was half true, as she loved finding what just worked for a song she could dance to.

But she had thoughts going by in her head. Ones that were much less fun.

Thoughts of a girl with no hair, staring at her cell phone, looking at one contact in particular, and wondering what to do with it.

They hadn’t talked in so long, and last time they did, it ended horribly. Alcohol never helped civil conversations, and attempts to reason and share stories only ended with yelling and screaming. She had every right to delete it.

But it was hard to give hope completely. Change had been possible before. New freedoms achieved. Relationships mended. It happened once before, couldn’t it happen again?

She wanted to beat the shit out of him and tell him to get out of her life forever. But at the same time, she wanted to hug him and plead for them to just talk.

She wanted to shout, but she also wanted to cry.

Security, or normalcy.

In the end, she sighed. Put it off for tomorrow. She didn’t want the tail end of her vacation ruined. She would enjoy herself.

And as her thoughts came back to the moment, she did.

The music played on, and so she danced.
