DECEASED

Name: Kirsten Andrea Slagel
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Hobbies and Interests: Partying, calligraphy, marketing, drawing

Appearance: Kirsten is of fairly average height and weight, standing at 5'6" and weighing 136 pounds. She is of British, Norwegian, and Jewish descent, giving her a fair complexion that is nonetheless resistant to sunburn. She has a light smattering of freckles across her cheeks and nose. Her facial features are smooth and soft, giving her a rather laid-back appearance. Her nose is straight and short. Her eyes are almond-shaped and blue and are capped with thin, rounded eyebrows. Her chin is rounded, and her cheekbones are somewhat wide, giving her a diamond-shaped head. Her eyes are capped with thin, rounded eyebrows. Kirsten's hair is a reddish-brown color, leaning more towards red. Her hair reaches her clavicles, and she usually has it parted in the middle. It is naturally wavy, though she takes pains to straighten it out.

Kirsten is a rather slender woman, with a relatively even fat distribution with very mild curvature. A few of her molars have gold crowns due to poor dental hygiene when she was younger. Her fingernails and toenails are painted in an alternating pink and purple pattern, with the exception of her right ring finger, where the nail was recently torn off in an accident while moving furniture. Her ears are pierced and adorned with simple faux diamond studs.

As for her clothes, Kirsten maintains a style in between extravagant and convenient, not caring for either of the spectrum's extremes. On the day of the abduction, Kirsten wore a white denim jacket with a purple camisole underneath and a white pleated skirt with horizontal purple stripes that stopped an inch above her knees. As for footwear, she wore knee-length purple stockings and white booties with gold zippers on the sides. She accessorized with her ear studs, several loose gold bracelets, and rings on each finger, barring the thumbs. The only differences between her regular appearance and her Avatar are minor: her ring finger's nail is fixed and her irises are pearlescent.

Background: Kirsten Slagel was born on April 17th, 2005, in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Herschel Slagel and Bonnie Sanders, their only child. Herschel and Bonnie met while working at the same software company, with both of them being in high positions due to competency and passion. They lived in Tucumcari for several years with Kirsten, but when Cyber Reality Devices were created in Menlo Park, they both decided to move to the nearby San Jose for perceived better economic opportunities. Due to their previous work experience and demonstrated competency, they were able to land jobs at Interface. Both of them were able to work through the ranks to top-level jobs, putting the family in the upper echelon of society.

Though her parents worked with the technology all day, they urged Kirsten to spend more time in the Real World than in Cyberspace. They set strict limitations for CR use in the household, and closely monitored and restricted her time there to make sure that they were staying safe, especially since it was brand new technology. She was allowed no more than one hour of CR per day, and her parents could turn off the CR at any time if they felt Kirsten was going somewhere unsafe.

In accordance with her parents' limited-CR attitude, Kirsten went to traditional schools for a long time. She was noted for having exceptional handwriting. When her teacher told her she should take up calligraphy, Kirsten asked her parents what that meant. When they told her, she decided to practice doing it whenever she had free time. She proved to be a natural at it, and started using her time in CR to practice doing it virtually, which she was also stellar at. Her time spent doing calligraphy also inspired her to branch out and start drawing shapes, faces, and environments. She also proved to be good at drawing, and she discovered she enjoyed drawing more surrealist forms of art rather than others, as it made her feel more creative and thought it expressed her emotions in a more refined manner.

Eventually, her parents looked forward and realized that CR would most likely be the way of the future, and that it was important their daughter got accustomed to it. They removed her limitations for CR, and Kirsten was enrolled in Sycamore High School, her first non-traditional school. While she had difficulty adjusting to spending much of the day in CR, she eventually got a handle on it, though she still prefers traditional school and rarely spends any more time in the school's server than she needs to.

One thing that Kirsten does enjoy in CR is going to discos. While she still prefers face-to-face interactions, she appreciates the ability to party, dance, and have a good time with others from the comfort of her bedroom. Kirsten attends discos often, at least four times a week and sometimes more. On weekdays, she frequents discos that are safe for underaged users. Rarely, on weekends, she will attend 21 and older discos to gain access to alcohol and cigarettes, which she has taken a liking to doing in CR. Kirsten does not do either in the Real World, as she feels it would be much too difficult to hide from her parents. She enlisted the help of a more technologically savvy friend to create a false I.D. for her, though she uses it sparingly as to avoid suspicion from her parents, who have put a lot of trust in her to use CR safely and without limitations.

After graduation, Kirsten plans on going to Stanford for business. Her planned field is going to be marketing, something she thinks will allow her to make money from and indulge in her love of artistry while utilizing corporate knowledge absorbed from her parents. Failing that, she has been looking into graphic design as an alternative.

Personality: In the Real World, Kirsten is very chatty and sociable, an extrovert by nature and someone who enjoys making new friends and acquaintances. She's more reserved in CR due to her uncomfortableness with it, though this has been melting away as she gets more and more accustomed to CR. Kirsten makes efforts to appear approachable and friendly to the inherent exclusivity of her obviously well-off background. She has laid-back mannerisms and isn't authoritative, generally willing to go with the flow and do what others want to do, though she isn't spineless. She is generally less friendly and more dismissive of those she considers "terminally online", or people who spend more time in CR than they do in the Real World.

Reputation: Kirsten is well-known and one of the more popular students on campus. She is generally recognized as a friendly and easygoing person, albeit one who usually gets in trouble in class for talking at least once per day. While her habit of goofing off in class can be grating for her teachers, she performs well in all her classes and is generally liked by her instructors. Kirsten usually tries to avoid interacting with the hardcore CR users, since their disagreements in philosophy usually leads to them getting along poorly. Due to numerous social obligations and a tendency to forget planned events to go to discos, she's developed a reputation as a bit of a flake.

Evaluation: "Your parents were right when they said Cyber Reality was the future, A02. I've got to say, though, what a shame about yours—cut so short! Maybe if you weren't such an invertebrate, you'd die with less regrets." — [LINCOLN], Announcer
