Ana Ford

Post by Deamon »

Name: Ana Ford
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: Senior
Hobbies and Interests: Skateboarding, Photography, Drawing

Gift: The Mercury Parasite
Power Details: The Mercury Parasite appears as a flowing mass of mercury roughly the size of a human torso. It lives outside of Ana's body but needs to remain in physical contact with a part of her skin at all times. It can however flow freely across her body and doesn’t have a set anchor point. The parasite is also able to change its shape, displaying the ability to able to flatten, contract, constrict, harden etc. Ana has the ability to control the parasite and use it for movement, protection, opening doors. The parasite itself has all of the characteristics of mercury but Ana is immune to its effects. It also appears to have its own limited level of self-awareness and consciousness, sometimes refusing to follow Ana's instructions or attempting to do things itself. Ana and the parasite appear able to communicate with one another on an instinctual level with Ana being able to control the parasite as one might do a limb.
Limitations and Drawbacks: The Mercury Parasite doesn't always listen to Ana when she instructs it to do something, making the application of its abilities inconsistent. If the parasite is separated from Ana it is not capable of taking action by itself, becoming inert until they are reunited. During any periods of separation from the parasite Ana begins to suffer similar symptoms to mercury poisoning, displaying muscle weakness, poor coordination and numbness in her extremities. These symptoms become more severe as time goes on and can potentially lead to organ failure. As the parasite is made of mercury Ana needs to be careful with exposing it to others. As such during school hours the parasite mainly resides under her clothing or in her backpack where others can’t touch it.

Appearance: Ana stands at 5'5" and weighs 132lbs. Her face is slender with thin pale blue eyes, soft angled low arched eyebrows, a rounded mouth, and a thin nose. Her hair is dirty blonde and kept long with a ponytail at the back and long curtains that frame her face. Ana's body is thin with more of her weight focused around her hips and thighs.

Ana prefers to wear comfortable styles while still being relatively fashionable. She wears makeup although she uses more subtle and natural tones to accent her looks more than try to be eye-catching by itself. On the day of the abduction, Ana was wearing a plain black hoodie under an olive bomber jacket with ripped boyfriend jeans and Nike Dunk Highs in white aluminum.

Background:
  • Ana was born in Bend, Oregon to Cedric Andrich and Cory Ford, and is one of two sisters. Her parents are divorced with Cedric returning to Germany and Cory working as a nurse.
  • Ana's parents divorced when she was a child and as a result, she doesn't have any memories of her father. She has spoken to him over the phone and video but has never met him in person.
  • Ana's sister is named Lena and is three years older than Ana herself, due to Cory's work hours Lena was the one who spent a lot of time looking after Ana after school meaning the pair are very close.
  • Ana's favourite hobby is skateboarding although it is something she prefers to do by herself partly because the parasite can sometimes make things difficult for her.
  • Ana picked up photography from Lena as a bonding exercise between the two. Once Ana's gift emerged she learned a way to climb with the parasite to get more unique shots.
  • Ana has a small but close group of friends around school who she mainly hangs out with but she is bad at interacting with people she doesn't know very well.
  • Ana is unsure what she'll do when she graduates, although she is currently applying to colleges to study photography.
Personality: Ana is friendly with people she knows but distant from those she doesn't well and doesn't put much effort into getting to know new people. She can be incredibly awkward around new people, not wanting to engage with them as much or at all. Her mood is also susceptible to switching based on small events that can inconvenience her. She tries not to let this show too much but Ana is aware she is bad at hiding her bad moods and that its very obvious when she's in one.

Other Skills: Climbing

Hey, Deamon! Ana's off to a good start, but is currently DENIED pending some edits and clarification.
It lives outside of Ana's body but needs to remain in contact with them at all times.
A major point of clarification would be this beat here. Firstly, I assume that the contact mentioned here is physical contact, but specifying that in the profile itself would be helpful. Secondly, I would like to ask what happens if she loses physical contact with the Mercury Parasite? Does it simply become an inert mass of mercury?

This possibly factors into another question: How does Ana navigate school while carrying a large hazardous mass with her? If the mass simply becomes inert when not in contact with her, then it could conceivably be kept in some sort of container that she carries with her. If the circumstances are different, then there would have to be some other means by which she avoids exposing her peers to the mercury.
Her mood is also susceptible to switching based on small events that can inconvenience her, while she tries not to let this show Ana is aware she is bad at this at that its very obvious when she's in a bad mood.
This sentence is worded in a somewhat confusing way and may benefit from being cut down into two sentences by replacing the comma between "her" and "while" with a period.

Onto a couple little grammar things:
It lives outside of Ana's body but needs to remain in contact with them at all times.
I assume that the "them" in this statement refers to Ana, but she's otherwise referred to with she/her pronouns, which made this a little confusing on first pass. Might be better to switch the "them" for "her".
Ana's sister is Lena and is three years older than Ana herself,
May be beneficial to add the word "named" before "Lena".

Once these edits have been made, I'll be sure to give Ana another look!
