I Come From The Land Down Under

Nestled on the edge of the rainforest, cracked into the side of a hill, is the entrance to a large underground area. While outside lighting will make it through the descent into the natural atrium, all bets are off beyond that point as the only way of traversing the darkness is through torchlight. Otherwise, one might have difficulty navigating the vast tunnel system, damp with rainforest water and littered with bones of various ages and sizes, some of which look less animal-like than others. However, navigate these caves successfully, and you may find the light again, in the form of an exit into one of the island’s other areas.

Katherine still thought it was funny. She knew she wanted out the second she woke up. She just didn’t think it’d be like this. She was expecting, dunno, an uprising, or a way to remove the collars, or a way to leave the island. It wasn’t even entirely out of valiance. It was more… well, a problem for her to solve. She didn’t expect to end up… well, here.

Some part of her still wanted Burger Rings and Cadbury’s. They better have those where she’s going.

It’s okay, really.

No need to apologize.

It was going to end up like this anyways, right?

And then, she was gone.

Another long silence followed, the roaring echo fading out into the cavern’s depths, as Jen stood over Katherine’s still form, head split open by an explosion of hot metal. Her arms trembled and came to rest at her sides, her face tensing up.

Don’t cry. Don’t fall.

That was all she had done on this island, cry and fall and fail and get tricked. Now Jen had killed someone, unable to do anything else, unable to help a single person. Things needed to change. She needed to change.

But Jen had no idea how.

Slowly, she turned and staggered away from Katherine, moving through the tunnels at a slow and steady pace, her thoughts focused only on making each step.

And then she doubled over and vomited.

((Jen continued elsewhere...))
