O16: CONSTANTINOU, PHILIA [DECEASED]

#1

Post by Brackie »

Name: Philia Constantinou
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Place of Residence: Lykobittos, Nicosia, Cyprus
Language/s: English, Greek, Cypriot Greek
Hobbies and Interests: Punk Rock, Metal, Creative Writing, Songwriting, Public Speaking, Activism, Running

Appearance: Philia stands just below average at 5'3. Despite her thin appearance and slim body type, she is not unhealthy, with a weight of 126 pounds. She's physically active, and is in good health, with small and quite unnoticeable muscles that come as a result of her physical activity, which consists of mainly cardio.

Philia wears glasses and has hazel eyes with a round, small nose. Her lips, following the trend of the rest of her face, are also quite small. Something noticeable, however, is the zit-scarring across her forehead which she desperately tries to cover with her makeup, usually to no avail. Her hair is medium-long, and is parted at the edge of her head's right side, and combed to her left, hanging over the left side of her forehead and her left ear, going down to her neck. On her right side, it has been buzzed short. While her hair is naturally a dark blonde color, it has been heavily dyed, leaving her with a mix of purple and green strands. On the side of her head which has been buzzed, there is a noticeable scar across her head, which Philia seems not to mind. She is usually seen wearing denim, dark-colored clothing. She does not wear famous brands, except for the several band shirts she wears under a denim jacket, such as Metallica, MCR, Rage Against the Machine, and Pantera. She usually goes denim-on-denim but sometimes goes with a more comfortable 'sweats-on-denim' look, wearing sweatpants with her denim jacket. Philias voice is a high-contralto, and she usually talks quite fast.

At the time of her kidnapping, Philia wore her school uniform, which would be a white dress shirt with a tie, and a knee-high skirt. The tie would be a dark blue, tied neatly along her collar. Her skirt would be red, with yellow on the bottom edge. Shoes were not regulated in her school, but Philia still wore black dress shoes and white socks that would barely reach above her shoes.

Biography: Philia Constantinou was born in the Mother and Child Medical Center of Nicosia, in the neighborhood of Lykabittos. She is the daughter of Nicholas and Caliroi Constantinou, alongside 2 younger siblings - 1 brother (Alexandros), and 1 sister (Chyrissa). She was named Philia, as she was conceived on the honeymoon of Nicholas and Caliroi, and they thought of her as the direct reward of their eternal love. At the time of the abduction, Philia was 17, and her siblings are 14, and 12 respectively.

Nicholas and Caliroi knew each other 2 years before the marriage and were warned that perhaps they had been rushing into things. In fact, Calirois parents would not give Nicholas their blessing for the wedding. However, Nicholas and Caliroi did not listen and married anyway. Nicholas worked as a security guard at the University of Cyprus and brought home most of the money, as little as the pay was. Caliroi did not hold a job and instead stayed home to take care of their children. Their financial situation worsened when he lost his job after a run-in with students left one injured. To deflect responsibility, the University fired Nicholas, which left the family with very little in terms of steady income. Nicholas had to take more and more time to do odd jobs to collect infrequent paychecks, which lead to less time spent with the family and overall a much more stressful life. Eventually, due to the stress, Nicholas had begun to drink, and when he drank he gambled. This turning point in Nicholas' life, coupled with the stress of losing most of their steady income, began to break apart Nicholas' and Caliroi's marriage.

Philia became increasingly neglected as more and more siblings began to be born, Caliroi choosing to take full attention to her smaller children as they began to be born, which began to take a toll on Philia's early development. She never held any contempt for her siblings, as she did not see them as the reason for her neglect, rather her parents took her blame. The failing marriage not only led to Philias's neglect but also gave Philia an extremely hard time in school. Her grades were never the best they could be, always failing to breach below average. Teachers always attempted interventions, calling parents, but the problem wasn't that Philia was unintelligent but rather that the stress at home made it extremely hard to study. While Philia did attempt to talk to school counselors about the situation, it was never enough to improve her grades, her stress levels, or her overall situation, which led to her parents going harder on her. This constant spiral would eventually lead Philia to begin rebelling against her parents.

They fought, a lot, mostly over his flagrant spending of their hard-earned money when Nicholas got drunk. Her father would usually come home drunk, but was not a violent drunk. However, he felt really lucky when he got drunk and would regularly gamble money away and rarely win. This caused a breaking point in her household that would create an extremely toxic dynamic between her parents. One night Nicholas had come home, extremely drunk, and drunkenly proclaimed that he had spent most of their house savings. Not only that, but a hospital visit had to be taken due to the amount of alcohol in his system.

Her parents were about to separate after that incident when something terrible happened to her. One night, while driving home from her grandparent's house, they got into a very bad car accident. While her mother and father came out unscathed, it would turn out Philia would not be so lucky. The accident had left a nasty gash on the side of her head, and a lengthy hospital visit due to the severity of the injury of her head. Doctors said it was lucky that she survived, and presented them with an extremely large hospital bill, and it scarred her at the young age of 10. They were barely able to afford this, mostly due to the lack of a well-paying job and the flagrant expenses of Philias father. While she was in the hospital she took to writing, and this began her interest in creative writing. She'd write stories inspired by her home life, but this also began to slowly introduce her to politics. While in the hospital, the news was the only thing she had on, and would usually write short stories about things she found very unfair. One story is about a family not being able to afford their oxygen bills and having to embarrassing tasks in order to survive another month.

Because of this, Nicholas and Caliroi finally separated, and for this Philia has never forgiven herself. Divorce was put through, and Nicholas lived by himself and sent money to the family. But even then, it was never enough. Because of this, Philia became like a parent to her siblings, as Caliroi had to take up multiple jobs just to be able to pay rent and put food on the table. Small part-time jobs, like food service, watering, and even delivering papers. Social welfare helped put food on the table, but the rest was up to her and rent was always a problem. Philia decided that she needed a way to cope with stress, and began exercising in her free time. Her favorite kind of exercise was running and eventually began running almost exclusively. She would consider joining athletic teams while in her school, but would ultimately decide against it due to her anti-social nature.

While she was in secondary school, she became socially distant. She did not have many friends, and this would be both a curse and a blessing, for young Philia, as she began to write music, learn guitar, and get into an early interest in political activism. However, this was a curse because due to the lack of friends she could never really get the proper emotional support a child needs at this crucial point in her development. Because of this, Philia struggled in social situations and joined clubs based around public speaking to improve her social skills but never really improved all that much. She barely passed her classes, even after multiple school-provided tutoring sessions, and was thought to others as the 'weird kid' and her home life never improved.

Upon reaching the age of 14, Philia would find herself in a political awakening. After a period of civil unrest, and after a lot of online talk about the 'ineffectiveness' of the current government, she started to get excessively into politics and activism. This made her have an even stronger want to get over her fear of public speaking. Therefore, she joined the youth wing of the Progressive Party of Working People, not mainly for their beliefs, but to surround herself with people who have similar interests as her.

They introduced her to bands such as Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, and Pantera, and the punk-rock scene with bands such as MCR and Black Flag. Much of this music was 'rebel music' and anti-establishment, which she liked a lot due to her new rebellious feelings against her mother. Caliroi really She wanted an outlet, and exploited it to the greatest extent, and began to hold resentment for her mother. Philia rebelled against her mother. She wanted to dress the way she wanted, and even started to adopt increasingly radical views of society. Rage Against the Machine and Black Flag were big inspirations for her, as well as Pantera. For example, one of her biggest inspirations would be from the song 'Walk' by Pantera, which has themes of fake friends and people changing their attitudes based on fame, which resonated with Philia a lot. She had dreamed of going to live shows, but never saw any big names, but would sometimes go to local band shows such as 'Blynd.'

While there were bumps here and there, her life finally began to improve. She began talking to more people. She got her first above-average grade ever. And it all came to a peak when she started talking to a guy, Constantine, and they became close friends. Constantine went to the same school as her, and they found each other attending a public speaking and debate club. They held similar anti-establishment views, got into frequent and friendly debates, and had very similar musical tastes. She even got on a few dates with him, and they dated for just over a year.

When she was 16, she broke up with Constantine, after a friend discovered him cheating on her with another girl, following a drunken party in Nicosia and encouragement from the girl he was cheating with. This completely broke her, and she began to burn bridges with many of her friends and decided to only keep the few, close, trusted friends she had. She began to distance herself from her party, even leaving the Progressive Party, and began to involve herself less with public speaking and activism, so she could focus on herself.

Philia thought that she needed to look inward for a while, and wanted only to be with people she absolutely trusted. This inclusiveness and sudden change were noticed by her parents, and her Mothers punishments began to lessen and their relationship began to improve. It would never go back to the way things were before, but Nicholas and Caliroi would at least agree on one thing, the mental health of their eldest child. Since then, she had decided to focus on her public speaking skills and wrote more songs, stories, and even began to sing a little. Philia decided that this change in the pace of hobbies would allow her to find her niche exactly, whether that be writing, music, or something with activism. With the exploration of these hobbies much more in-depth, and with the help from her parents, Philia began to slowly improve her own mental health. Following Philia's slow recovery, she had begun to interact a lot more with her siblings, not just as a caretaker, but as a sibling. Philia would sometimes take them to shows, as well as other things they wanted to do with her. Philia began to slowly mend her relationships with her family.

In her final year of schooling, she's become much happier, compared to during the ordeal of Constantine and what he did, nearly a year after her breakup. With help from her parents, and her exploration of her niches, she had come a long way from the low point she was at before. Her goal right now is to at least get into a great music school, so she's able to focus on writing more rock music, after discovering she has an affinity for songwriting and music. Hopefully, she can leave the country to study if she can at least afford it or get a great scholarship. She hopes to get into the Cyprus School of Sound or perhaps another school abroad, in the UK, since a lot of scholarship opportunities are offered among all Commonwealth nations.

Advantages: Philia is quite good at running, and she can run quickly and for quite some time. Philia is also an amazing multi-tasker, due to her becoming the caretaker of the house when her mother had to work.
Disadvantages: Philia does not trust anyone, and is extremely suspicious. This could prove hurtful to herself, as she could interpret someone's help as negative and ultimately reject them. She is reserved, and stubborn, which could prove dangerous and even fatal in the current situation.

Conclusion: She theoretically has the profile of the sort of folks who end up killing for a cause. But this one’s too… toothless, I guess. A single break up and all her conviction crumples just like that? She took all the wrong lessons from the hardships she endured in life, I’d say. All the pieces are there but they’re extremely all over the place. - Freebird
