DECEASED

Name: Gabriela Garcia-Campos
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Grade: 12th
Hobbies and Interests: Physics, sci-fi novels, SOTF-TV, online trolling

Appearance: Gabriela is a bit smaller than average, standing at 5’3” and having a relatively slim build, weighing 120 pounds, an appearance further emphasized by her frequently poor posture. Her black hair reaches her mid-back and is a poorly kempt mess of curls. Gabriela has Latin American heritage and her eyes and skin are light brown in tone. Her face is long and angular, punctuated by a long, pointed nose at its center.

Gabriela usually dresses for comfort with little regard for style, usually preferring casual, loose-fitting attire. On the day of casting, she was wearing a white t-shirt with the NASA logo emblazoned on the chest, black sweatpants, and white sneakers.

Biography: Gabriela was born the first and only child of Julian Garcia and Silvana Campos, a couple that had married two years prior. Julian was an accountant who previously failed in several attempts at becoming a published science fiction author and Silvana a professor of biology.

She grew up rather close to both her parents, but in particular with her father Julian, who from an early age shared with her a love of fantastical stories of far off worlds.

However, in spite of positive relationships at home, Gabriela struggled to forge similar bonds with peers as she went on to school, tending to be socially awkward and act out in manners that would frequently result in disciplinary responses from teachers, such as taking items from classmates without asking or speaking out of turn. Her parents, concerned about what this might mean for Gabriela going forward, made sure to enforce a better sense of manners for the girl at home and her mother remained in regular contact with her teachers.

Their efforts succeeded in curbing Gabriela's misbehavior at school, but her issues with effectively socializing remained, only managing to hold a few close friendships at a given time. Still, she remained a model student for a time, and received high marks through grade school and into middle school.

Then, while Gabriela was in the seventh grade, Silvana discovered that Julian had been carrying on an affair with another woman. Gabriela was spared no details as the two argued openly in the house, unable to withhold their bitterness toward one another. Soon enough, the two had divorced and Julian moved out. Gabriela held some resentment for both of her parents as things spiralled out of control, but there was a particular contempt and feeling of betrayal towards her father.

These feelings, left to simmer, resulted in Gabriela lashing out at her peers and developing a reputation as something of a bully in the latter half of her time in middle school. Seeking solace somewhere that she might vent freely, Gabriela found herself drawn to online communities with lax disciplinary measures, finding an extra sense of security with a sense of anonymity that she could attain and finding it easier to communicate with others through the barrier of a screen.

Gabriela would describe her behavior online as being one of seeking intense online debate, but would be described by most who have to deal with her antics as trolling. Indeed, her tendencies toward being uncouth often result in discourse turning very negative, and she is prone to digging her heels in and refusing to accept any loss or mistake in these situations.

During this time, Gabriela found herself more drawn to SOTF-TV, a show which she and her family had only watched very casually before this point. The show was always a hot topic of discussion and debate, a discussion that Gabriela wanted a greater stake in. As a result, she found herself consuming significant amounts of SOTF related content going forward, and is frequently keyed in on the current discourse regarding the show.

In particular, she has tended towards discussing contentious topics, such as the quality of the show’s infamous Season 10 or topics surrounding recent winner Jewel Evans, as well as arguing with more prominent community members such as board mods and admins over a variety of topics.

Gabriela, still a rather talented student when it came to academic performance, managed to earn a scholarship to Mangrove Garden High School, a fact which left her mother overjoyed.

In high school, Gabriela has attempted to temper some of her more combative attitude towards her peers, slowly maturing in how she approached others, even managing to gain a few friends along the way, a fact helped by her strong grades begetting a higher social status at Mangrove. Still, the majority of Gabriela's social circles remain those that she knows through her online activities.

While needing to put in extra effort to stand alongside her peers socially, Gabriela continued to excel in her academics, particularly when it came to the sciences. Among these, she found herself most drawn to the subject of physics, studying the mechanics that drive the universe around her. Following graduating high school, she intends to continue with the subject into college, firmly considering focusing on the study of astrophysics, though such plans remain far in the future from her perspective.

Though Gabriela's relationship with her father remains strained, only visiting him on occasion, she does still harbor a love for science fiction, even being a member of a couple of online communities devoted to the topic. She is somewhat resentful of this attachment, however, and rarely discusses the matter with those outside said communities, and certainly not with her mother.

On the matter of her mother, she and Gabriela have a decent relationship, if one which has grown more distant with age. Though Silvana did initially encourage Gabriela’s interest in online activities, she became rather concerned as the hobby seemed to consume her daughter’s life. Gabriela’s recent efforts to be more social at school did help to put her more at ease, however.

Advantages: Gabriela is a very serious-minded and rational decision maker, capable of problem solving when under immense pressure, though these skills are sharpest when left to her own devices. She also holds a fair bit of knowledge about the events of previous SOTF-TV seasons
Disadvantages: Gabriela is lacking in social skills, being slightly awkward and tending to become frustrated with others easily, having a bit of a temper as well, all of which very much work to dull her skills when having to work among a group, particularly over extended periods. She is also incredibly stubborn and can struggle to adapt once she has settled on a solution to a problem.

Designated Number: BC05

----

Designated Weapon: Jericho 941

Mentor Comment: "Must be nice having a real weapon and an idea of what the fuck you're doing when you get dropped off in the arena. That is to say, I think I'm bullish on this Crab's chances. Of course, she's also got about 60% of the team's firepower, so a little lesson in teamwork might do everyone some good."
