Three fingers of whiskey on ice floated in dark liquid, amber swirling with the movement of a hairy wrist. Slanted in a tilted glass, lightly tapping the sides of the glass in a muted and musical staccato.

Blue eyes watched the glass, the amber tilting, ice swirling.

Watched as he poured it on the carpet, listened to it.

Exhaled through nostrils, looked out at the sun and surf.

Wouldn't move for a while.
