Sanctuary

The armoury actually consists of three sections; a waiting area of sorts, a small, fenced off area much like a shop counter, and a large room which once held a large number of weapons. Naturally, this has now been emptied, filled only with bare shelves, and it is only notable in that it doubles as the entrance to the warehouse.

(Priscilla Sawyer continued from It's On)

Priscilla walked into the room, panting and panicked. Her right hand rested on her chest as she breathed deeply, exhausted from her escape from the library. She took a seat in a cushioned chair and set her bag by the side, still gasping for air, still tired from her run to...the armory.

Too close. Much too close. I could've...I could've died there, she thought as she set down the map.

...I could've died there.

And all at once, reality hit her again, like a charging bull. Death was pacing by her coattails, waiting for the perfect moment to grab them with its pallid, skinless hands and pull her towards it, to lock her in a prison of nothingness, forbidden from meeting her family ever again. She broke out into a panicked sweat, and once again, Priscilla was clutching her head, bent over her knees as if she had a searing pain in her lower back.

Damn it, DAMN IT, DAMN IT!

(Continued from Claustrophobe)

Maddie ducked into the closest room she could find. She looked around. Oh. The armory.

What had she done?! Did she really fire? Did she really witness him crumple under the force of the shot, only to shoot again and again? What would her parents think? They had to be watching, they were always so supportive of her.

Maybe they would be proud.

The sort of thought popped up and she gasped involuntarily. She wasn't exactly...upset. She had very much most likely taken a life and she didn't really feel anything about it. To her it seemed as inconsequential as making a practice sculpture. Was that wrong? It felt like it should be but she was hollow.

Her breath was coming in little gasps but she could not stop it. She leaned against the wall, allowing her knees to grow weak and slide her to the floor. Her hands gripped the gun. It still felt warm. She wasn't ready for this...right?

Her gray eyes flicked up, and lighted on the girl sitting in the chair before her. She was bent over, clutching her head. Maddie's trigger finger twitched, but she did not raise her gun. Her throat was dry, parched, maybe there was water in her bag? She dare not move though, at any moment it might occur to the girl that she was there.

The safety was off and she gripped her gun. Maddie was ready for anything.

can't be happening
impossible
all that work, all that research
never even got to say goodbye

A gurgling from Priscilla's stomach whispered in her ear. Something started flowing upstream, up her esophagus, into her mouth, but she kept it down. Her face felt hot, like it had caught a rash with no itch, and once again, her heart was pumping at a rapid pace, as if it had been caught up in some cardiovascular version of Speed.

A foreign element poked into her vision. She looked up to find a tiny girl with her forelegs parallel to the floor, breathing heavily, just as she was doing.

A gun.

Her heart beat even faster. The sweat dripped down even quicker. Priscilla could do nothing but stare at the little girl, her mind a maelstrom of indecision.

"Hi."

God, she was so stupid. There she was standing in front of a girl who was gasping, who looked kind of sick, totally holding a gun. How completely and utterly ridiculous of Maddie, just saying hello!

There was a soft voice in the back of her head, a confused one. Would this girl be the next masterpiece? She was unsure of the girl's name, chalking her up to just being one of those faces she saw in the hall before casting her eyes to the floor, focusing on the tiles. This girl meant nothing to her. So wouldn't it be simple?

Was that who she wanted to be? Her trigger finger itched, yearning for the permission, yearning for the release. The gun filled her hand like no paintbrush or trowel ever had and it called to be used. She had not seen her last masterpiece as it was unveiled...she was alone now. Could this be different?

Her blank, perpetually wide gray eyes stared at Priscilla blankly.

"Are you okay?"

Okay?

Okay?

Priscilla made a few deliberate blinks, sat up straighter as she came back from her daze. Uh, no, she was most definitely not okay. She'd been thrown in an isolated area with orders to murder her classmates, had gotten a fucking bike lock as a weapon, and very nearly had her head blown off! Who in their right mind would call her okay?

She collected herself quickly. First impressions were always important. Still regarding the intruder with caution, she nodded and replied "Yeah, I'm okay. You?" Her eyes slowly drifted toward her gun as she said this, still tense and stiff, still fearful of what was to come.

Maddie was not okay. Maddie had probably just killed someone. Maddie had most likely just killed someone that had actually never even spoken to her, and she could not, at this moment in time, tell anyone why she had decided to do that. Maddie was now sitting in an armory holding the gun that had just very much most likely taken a person's life and now her trigger finger seemed to be begging to fire the gun again.

No. Once was enough. Once was enough to prove to herself that she could do if it she needed to, but this girl didn't seem to be a threat and she needed to really lay off the wild firing. Slowly, but surely, Maddie pushed herself to her feet. She needed to leave this placed of weaponry. She needed to leave this place of temptation. She was going to keep her head down for the rest of the game and only kill if someone was trying to kill her.

"I'm completely fine." New leaf. Starting totally over.

That would leave the gallery unfinished. A voice admonished in her head.

That is something a crazy person would say....right? But the idea of leaving something so unfinished made her feel horrible. She had never left a single project unfinished, why start now? It was wrong, right? She needed to finish this...her trigger finger twitched again.

But she wasn't going to start with this girl.

"I...I am fine but I need to go."

And for the second time in fifteen minutes, Maddie was out another door and down the hall.

"..."

Priscilla stared into space silently, ruminating upon the brief encounter she had just had. Again, her mind descended into confusion, unsure of what to believe, what to do, what to feel. Why did the girl leave? Was she afraid of her? No, that couldn't be it, she had a gun. Firepower more than made up for muscles. Maybe she was traveling with somebody and got lost? Perhaps she realized she left something important behind?

Whatever the case, she had ran off and left Priscilla by her lonesome, seemingly safe, free of paranoid fits for the moment. After a brief moment or two checking her map, Priscilla stood up and marched to her next destination.
