Boyhood

lol I'm not even in this thread anymore I have no power here

The Aloha Daycare Center is made up of two parts. A small building painted to look like a bright tropical beach scene and a larger play area made up of multiple rope bridges, ball pits, platforms up to higher areas and slides. Inside the building is an area more suited for younger children so that they can play without the risk of the bigger play area because of this the floor is matted and there are many beanbags and soft foam blocks lying around for the kids to play with. The idea behind the center is that it’s where parents can drop off their kids before heading for a walk down the boardwalk or visiting the Palms Spa and Salon.

((Davis Todd: VW3 - TV2 - Last Time In Prime))

All his brothers were watching. They had to be. They always went to each others games, hell even watched practices if they could. Davis personally knew that he didn't perform as well if he even saw one of his brothers missing. Even as he knew that he hadn't spent much time outside of sports, they all knew that their games mattered. But now, he needed them the most to watch him at this very moment.

"Don't worry guys, I'm gonna do great things, just you wait."

His feet were shuffling in a rhythmic motion as he walked about the daycare center, fingers drumming against his thighs. It really was gonna be game time soon. He had managed to get himself pumped up with just some imagination. By the time this game was over, he was gonna be one of those guys on the Wheaties box.

Now, he was actually shaking even though he was no longer all that cold, thanks to the track pants they had given him. This was just all different kinds of energy. Nervousness, anxiety, but most of all restlessness. Still, needed to be patient. Patience wasn't exactly an easy thing to obtain though. He still needed something to pass the time, give him something to do. Lucky for him, he spotted something that would do just fine for now.

A ball pit. Like the ones he use to mess around in when he was younger. Eyes sided to the left. Then they sided to the right. Dropping his bag near the pit with yet another doofus grin was on his face, Davis backed up a few steps and prepared a mock running start. He made a comical jog, cannon-balling himself into the ball pit as he fell at it's edge. Spheres of red, yellow, and blue engulfed him.

He rose from the pit and attempted his best impression of a backwards-butterfly stroke until he grew bored of that. Now, he simply waited inside the pit, looking through his bag. Food, drinks, extra clothes, his costume and gun. He was glad they had prepared him.

This was all he was gonna need.

Louise Luna (EW3) start

For once Louise was not active. Though that was largely because she was unconscious. As her eyes open she was  met with a colourful vista. Four pieces of padded wood kept her hidden from those below. Blinking in confusion she found herself in a play centre. She considered trying to use the platform as a would be stronghold before dismissing it as a stupid idea. Despite herself she smiled at the colourful artwork and play equipment. It reminded her of her childhood as she had, regrettably in her view, reached an age where she couldn’t play with it anymore. She leapt enthusiastically onto the bridge separating the platform from a similar one. As she rushed along the bridge she heard a beeping sound.

“Oh right the bandana” she said to herself. The harsh reality of her situation coming back to her, a reality she was trying to suppress and ignore. Her mind not really able to fully come to terms with it. She retraced her steps grabbing the bag and scrambling through it. Finding the black bandana on the top she tied it around her head. Looking round she realised in her haste she had scattered some of the other items. Moving back she picked up one an unidentified face down item from the bridge she heard an unmistakeable sound.

Ball pit! It had always been her favourite part of  the adventure centre. Leaping off the  bridge,  rolling to try to avoid injury she hurried towards the promised fun. As she entered the door she caught sight of  Davis, it looked like he was having fun. Realising it was too late to try to hide and once again cursing her recklessness she realised talking was her best option. She knew of Davis, he was a big sportsman , in more ways than one. However, she didn’t really know him, same school different social circles. She tried to remember anything that might help her but her mind was coming up blank.

“Um room for one more” she said desperately, cringing at the stupid joke after she spoke.

"Helllloooooooo Leggy."

Davis' eyes looked up at the girl now standing before him. Thought her name was Louise, maybe seen her around the block a few times. Long legs, Hispanic...black bandana around her head. Shame. Still, it's not like she was Chris who was trying to make an alliance while oh so playfully carrying a fucking shotgun. Fuck that. Besides, he just got here.

He scooted over, as if he actually needed to. He zipped up his bag as he did so, pushing it aside for when it was his time to go. Needed to be good for whenever that would come.

"Psch, don't mind me, go right ahead. Not like I'm the one who owns this place."

When he thought about it, this did seem like a pretty nice to live. Based on what he saw on the map, there'd at least be something somewhere to keep him entertained. Right now though, it could just be Louise. Little steps, he thought, in time everything will finally come forward.

'You are supposed to take your shoes of in the ball pit'. The thought jumped unbidden into her head. Her hand moved to remove her shoe as she waited for a response. She wondered if it really mattered given the nature of the experience. She kicked her shoes to the side whilst she puzzled over this before realising all the time she was working this out was time wasted from the ball pit. She gave a goofy excited smile at his response.

"Geronimoooo"

She said over enthusiastically. Without another word or thought she jumped into the pool, going almost head first due to her over eagerness. Yet more brightly coloured balls cascaded out the pool as she jumped. As she landed the calendar, that was still in her hand after her mad dash, flew out her hand. Louise happily flapped around in the pool occasionally diving under the surface before remembering she had company. Leaning back on a 'throne' of coloured spheres she tried to think of something to say.

"Sooooooo, wassup?" she said. She realised it was not exactly stellar conversation but it was an alright opening. She looked at him hoping he had something better to add. Still chilling in a ball pit was pretty good for SOTF TV.

As Louise jumped into the pit, Davis felt a pile of paper fly onto his head. Wondering what it was, he grabbed at the stack.

SOTF TV's Sexiest People Calendar

For a while, as he heard Louise flailing through the ball pit, Davis just stared blankly. Now he was flipping through the calendar, figuring that this type of stuff just doesn't happen for the sake of them happening.

"Helllloooo Ms. September...shit, these people are probably dead or murderers...this feels sketchy as fuck."

That on his mind, Davis promptly threw the calendar behind his head, hoping it'd sink to the bottom of the pit. He rubbed his hands together, now that some chill was getting into his bones. At that point, Louise had made her way back and asked what he was up to.

"Not much, kinda coastin through. Tryin to find out who's on my team, figurin out what do, nothing too big."

That wasn't completely true. By his standards, Davis had real big stuff goin on. Best to leave those thoughts as they are for now, less he got antsy and started showboating.

Louise looked up seeing the calendar in his hand. Recognising it as the thing she was carrying she swam over to see what it was. Seeing the item's title she raised an eyebrow. She was aware that such things sold and generally sold well. She raised an eyebrow seeing her new acquaintance studying it, seemingly intently. As he lobbed the calendar it fell open to September, only some tactically placed plants 'preserving' her 'modesty'.

"Having fun?"

she asked with a smirk and a raised eyebrow. She couldn't help but wonder if she would end up on a calendar or some dumb internet meme. The thought depressed her as the whole idea of the ball pit was to try to pretend she wasn't in such a dire situation.

"Yeah seems a solid plan. Still, nice to have a bit of a relax too."

As she replied Louise realised she didn't have a plan. She usually sat back and went with the flow, at the moment that seemed to be going fine. So why change a winning formula.

Davis grew a smile.

"Yeah, loads of fun. Being in a death game and all."

He rotated his arms and shoulders, cracked his neck back and forth, letting his joints and muscles relax some. That probably came off as more testy then he had liked, but not much could be done about that.

He looked at Louise again, wondering if she was just pulling off the nonchalant look as well as he thought she was naturally. He shook his head as he thought, knowing there were more important things to worry about.

"Can't argue with just relaxing for a bit. Sometimes people do just need to cool it."

A soft and uncomfortable breeze came through, sending the calendar flying past him. He shuddered, not liking the reminder he wasn't in New Mexico anymore. His hands grasped his arms and they began to shake up and down trying to send some kind of warmth to him.

"Fuuuuck..."

At the mention of their situation Louise's smile cracked for a second. A flash of worry, gone as quickly as it came. Still she was sitting in the ball pit having a conversation seemingly in no immediate danger. As such it was difficult to really start panicking.

She smiled at his sarcastic, or at least she assumed sarcastic, response. She moved more of the spheres near her temporarily distracted collecting the red and yellow ones.

"Yup, can't beat a ball pit too." she said happily gently throwing a green ball as she spoke.

Would be good if we could convince everyone to relax and cool off"

she said more quietly. She wasn't naive enough to believe it was really viable but it was a nice idea. Though the idea of diplomacy being conducted in ball pits made her smile. At this point she felt the cold breeze and shivered slightly. She turned around trying to discern the source. She leapt up out the pit to try to close the door as she was up anyway she grabbed the calendar, it was hers after all. Once she closed the offending door she dived back into the pool.

A green ball was thrown over his head, causing Davis to look up at the sky. It was gray and cloudy, not exactly great weather to him. A few days. He only had to be here for a few days, maybe less. But that would take some initiative. Had to keep it in mind...Davis was realizing he was really bad at this whole patience thing. Louise was talking about the ball pit still.

"Yeah...I guess."

Now all he could think about was lacrosse and football. In lacrosse, people attacked at all times, non-stop, and he always had something to react to. In football, he had to start everything, nothing was gonna happen till he snapped the ball. Of course it wouldn't be much different in this game.

Louise came back to the pit, apparently leaving when he was in thought.

"You got any plans to go anywhere once it gets late? It probably gets freezing at nght."

Louise barely noticed that Davis had zoned out, it wasn't entirely unusual for her, continuing to speak. She tried to find her previous, relatively, comfortable position. She wondered if he was just thoughtful or didn't buy into her ball pit utopian future.

As she tried to settle she still felt cold. It seemed she was too used to warm New Mexican summers or maybe winters here were  just harsher. She felt a twinge of sadness thinking of her warm state, warm home and her family, concerned she wouldn't see any of  them again. She gave a wistful sigh, her eyes glazing over looking at the sea of red and yellow around her.

She was pulled out of her melancholy by Davis' question. Truth be told she hadn't even considered it. If they moved inside the daycare centre was warm(er) than outside, less dangerous and more importantly full of fun.

"Um, like form some kind of fort inside? Can probably make it fairly decent. I guess the padding and stuff will make it warmer maybe. Seems fairly safe and no hard surfaces? You got a plan?"

Louise's stream of consciousness trailed off kind of hoping that Davis would have a good plan so she could steal it or at least tag along, strength in numbers right?

((Gabriel Munez Continued from I like my ladies like my coffee))

"Yeah, I mean, they could have left some medical shit or something lying around here. It's a daycare so they've gotta have basic stuff on hand, right?"

Gabriel had led them to the daycare with pretty much that exact thought process in mind. It was pretty likely that they'd stripped the place, but they might have left something basic or just missed it because it was inconsequential, and little things like that were what separated the winners from the losers.

That and blind luck, but he wasn't relying on that shit.

As he stepped through the door way into the play area, he took in a lot of details. Rope bridges, play sets, a giant-ass ball pit, Davis, some climbing platforms, slides-

Davis?

Davis.

Gabriel hesitated for just a moment. The smart thing to do was to grab his gun, hold him down, and see what he had in the bag by the pit.

In a way, though, that was admitting he couldn't take him.

That he needed to surprise him and cheat him to take him on.

That he was afraid of the fight.

Fuck that, man.

He dropped his bag with a thud and yelled towards the pit. "YO SHITHEAD!"

Then he sprinted as fast as his chubby legs would carry him and dove towards his target in the colorful balls for a good old fashioned rumble.

"Yeah, maybe a fort or somethin, there's probably a bunch of stuff in there."

As he looked to the daycare center, he saw a fat guy calling him a shithead, coming right at him ready to bring the hurt.

Average Tuesday.

As orbs of red, yellow, and blue went flying, Davis' hands grabbed onto a Hawaiian shirt, head barging into the other guy's shoulder in instinct. Davis threw his weight to bring the other person in a grounded position, sending even more of the pit's balls exploding into the air.

Gabriel. Couldn't just let things go.

His hands raised themselves into a fist, and Davis began hammering them down onto Gabe's flabby face.

[Lisa Toner, continued from I like my ladies like my coffee]

In a way, Lisa was just like a leopard. Except she wasn't that fast. Or graceful. Or strong. Or hairy. Okay, maybe hairy, but it was not as pretty as the fur of a leopard.

To be honest, it would be more fitting to describe the strange image of Lisa running after Gabriel akin to a rabid fungus hopping through the woods.

"Gabrieeeeee- holy poo, is that a ball pit?"

Lisa's goal shifted from reaching Gabriel to jumping in the pool, but after diving in her attention shifted back to Gabriel who was currently having some kind of thing going on with another guy.

That definitely caught her eye.

Louise nodded it seemed a good plan and it required very  little from her except maybe the odd go on the slide. She looked up with a surprised expression as their relative peace was shattered. Straining her neck to look over Davis she saw Gabriel sprinting towards them, even without his speech his intent was obvious. She didn't really know the guy but had heard he was a bit nuts. This seemed to confirm that, though she had no idea what Davis may or may not have done. Either way any attempt to calm him down seemed futile.

As he dived into the pit Louise scooted backwards, she didn't want to be collateral damage in their fight. She could feel her adrenaline pumping at the potential danger unfolding before her. She was so focused on avoiding the two boys fighting she did not spot the second figure until they dived into the pit besides her. At that point it all clicked.

ambush!

She supposed they had kind of made themselves a target. However, she wasn't going down too easily. Adrenaline still pumping she dived back into the fray aiming for her would be assailant without another thought.

With a cooler head, Gabriel might have reflected that he could have thought this out a lot better. Being calm didn't really suit him, though, especially when he was brawling. So as Davis started beating his face in, he let go of conscious struggle and let the old habits kick in.

Fingers jutted up towards Davis's eyes. Feet kicked up searching for his crotch. His whole body writhed and undulated, trying to throw the boy above him off balance.

It'd been a couple years since Gabe had played the bull in this rodeo, but his instincts still knew the score. If there was a way to fuck Davis up, he'd find it.
