The parish is set somewhat apart from the ruins of the main dwelling, and takes the form of a non-denominational chapel. Designed in a classic configuration with several rows of pews facing a raised stage, it nonetheless doesn't boast any traditional religious icons out in the open. Cupboards and closets contain an assortment of bibles, crucifixes, copies of the Torah, and other items of worship... as well as a few bottles of a particularly good rum stashed behind the pulpit. For some miners, alcohol held more sway than God.

Seeing a teenage girl sitting down with a piece of technology in her hands wasn’t at all unusual. In any other circumstance, it was almost normal these days. However, this wasn’t any normal circumstance. It wasn’t an iPhone or tablet, either. At least, as far as Felicia LaChapelle could tell.

She’d woken up what felt like a few hours ago. Felicia had screamed, she’d cried, she’d curled herself up. She remembered every detail. They were supposed to go to an aquarium trip, and… and… Mr. Dolph was dead. They killed him. Felicia’s skin crawled at the memory. They just shot him, and he went everywhere, and she didn’t know what to do. Once she was done screaming and crying, she’d just curled up against the wall. Her eyes stung. Maybe it was from the makeup, maybe it was from how hard she’d cried.

She hadn’t known what to do then, and she still didn’t. Felicia had wondered what was going to happen now. Were they going to be rescued? Were they going to die? She didn’t know. But she knew about SOTF. All those years ago, a class of kids in California had been abducted. Only one made it home. She didn’t think it’d come back, but she didn’t want something like that to happen again. Not to her friends, not to her.

Eventually, she’d pulled herself up. Her throat was still sore, and her eyes still hurt. But she’d gotten the nerve to look through her bag eventually. She wasn’t thinking about weapons or anything. If anything, she was looking for something to clean herself up a bit. And that’s when she found the GPS.

It was about the size of an iPhone, and a dark metallic color. It’d come with a manual too. It wasn’t a weapon, but she was okay with that. It wasn’t like she wanted something to kill people with. But, useful was useful.

She managed to get an idea of how it worked from the manual. It tracked all collars within its radius. You could zoom in and out some, but not by much. She’d noticed that around the center, there was a small blue blip, simply labeled “G022.” She had to take a moment, before she noticed that her bag had the same number. A look at the manual confirmed it: it was her. Okay, so she had an idea of how it worked, at least.

It still didn’t change the fact that her heart was pounding, though.

So, she’d sat on the floor behind the pulpit. It was a decent enough place to rest and think. It felt weird, sitting among the bottles. Felicia was never a huge drinker, but she did consider it. There were other things she considered, too, but it was just as unappealing as the murder. But she took a deep breath. If someone decided to come by, they wouldn’t see her right away, hopefully. But if she kept her eyes on the GPS… maybe she’d see them first. Maybe.

Periodically, she’d lower the GPS, and think to herself a bit. This was one of those periods. She’d rubbed her face a bit more, wondering if someone was going to show up, if they were friendly. Wondering what was going to happen to her. But, every once and a while, she’d lift the GPS, zoom in and out, then put it down. For now, though, she’d leaned forward, hand on her chin. Her eyes looked back towards the GPS, sitting on the floor next to her.

Maybe another look wouldn’t hurt.

She picked it up again.

((Yumi Nunes continued from Fear and Fury))

The shock of waking up on the island did not fade away easily, as even well over an hour after waking up, Yumi was still playing back the events of the kidnapping in her mind. Even though she had been at the back of the bus when it happened, she clearly remembered the moment when Mr. Dolph's head exploded into meat chunks and red mist. She felt nauseous when the memory came back to her, but had enough constitution to keep herself from emptying whatever remained from her last meal onto the ground.

She hadn't bothered to even open her pack yet, and wandered aimlessly across the island as a result. Staying out in the open was uncomfortable and more than a bit scary, leaving her looking over her shoulder and scanning the area around her constantly, wary of the slightest sound or sight that could be construed as vaguely humanoid. At any moment, someone could appear, and she was nowhere near prepared for it.

It was after being startled by a group of low-flying birds that Yumi happened into the area of a large church-like building. She stopped and stared at it for a while. Architecturally, it looked simple, but nice. It reminded her of the church near Tilles Court that she would pass by on the way to school. It didn't stand out in any particular way, but it was clear what it was and why it was there.

She debated with herself for a moment as to whether or not entering would be a good idea, but after waking up in the woods and walking in the hot sun ever since, it would admittedly be nice to get a little bit of shade. She pushed open the front doors gently, a low, deep creaking sound accompanying the motion. She winced at the unwelcome noise, hoping that no one was inside to be disturbed by her entrance.

She couldn't see anyone in the pews, at least not from the entrance. Detecting no reaction, she stepped forward lightly, trying not to make any further sounds. The longer she could remain undetected, the better.

Lyndi couldn't believe the last thing she'd been concerned about was the stupid air conditioning.

She'd never even wanted to go to the aquarium. She'd tried to convince Maxwell to go, because she thought it'd be fun for him, but her parents were supposed to have taken her to their private travel agent that day. She was going to begin booking her trip overseas. Well, mom and dad were. But he had a cold and had to reschedule, and suddenly she was going to the aquarium. Was that all it took? Was she going to die because one person had to pick up a bug from somewhere? Jared could have told her if the travel agent really was sick. Jared knew everything, more than she ever knew.

More than she was ever going to know, she'd begun to realize.

It wasn't fair. For any of them. Nobody had done anything to deserve this, the least of all her friends at P.J. Hobbs. They were teenagers! None of them had even started to live their lives yet! And now a bunch of evil terrorists had taken them away, and all but one of them were going to end, just like last time with the boy from California. She'd tried to put the entire thing out of her mind, convince herself it was only a one-time thing, but the fact she was here right now alongside most of her class said something completely different.

What was she going to do?

When Lyndi woke up, she'd been at a collection of warehouses. She immediately jumped up, backed backwards because of nerves, then fallen over her own duffull bag, grazing her elbows on the ground. It was all she needed to convince herself to run, so she did. She ran so far, even with her ankle and its brace pinching at the skin of her leg, reminding her that she was weak and everyone else was strong. Reminding her that she wasn't a killer, like visions going through her mind had convinced her many others would be, the ones she didn't know or who were mean to her at school, or who took advantage of her nature. Reminding her that she'd never get to see her parents again, or see her brother graduate, or even attend college.

It drove her to run faster.

But elbows stinging, she eventually stopped. What looked like a church wall stood before her, a delicate stained glass in a bricked arch near what looked like a roof. She couldn't see inside. Lyndi walked to the wall, placed her back against it, and slid down into the dirt. She wanted to slide further, into the earth itself. She wanted to hide in the ground and never have to deal with what was going on, the terrorists, the collar around her neck, the fact that she knew that people she'd shared a grade with could already be starting to kill each other.

And with that, she started to sob hysterically.

Felicia looked at the screen, and felt her heart stop for a moment. There was another blue blip, this time labeled “G015.” That had to be another person. It was slowly getting closer. A second later, and the sound of the doors creaking open filled the room. Felicia looked up, frozen on the spot. She had no idea who it could be. It could be someone like Lyndi, or Maxwell, or Rachael. It could be Alba, or Richard. She looked down again.

The blip was still inching closer, but another one had come up. This one was labelled “G003,” and moved faster. However, a moment later, it stopped. So, that was two people. Whether they were friendly, though, was another question.

Felicia took a deep breath. She wanted to stay put. But, curiosity won out. Felicia peeked out from the side of the pulpit, her blonde hair hanging over her face. The hand that still gripped the GPS started shaking, but for different reasons.

She had to think fast. Continue staying put? But Yumi wasn’t the type, was she? And they knew each other. She could let her know she was here. But she still didn’t know who the other blip was. Maybe Yumi knew, but maybe she didn’t. But it seemed like maybe they were outside? That’d be why she couldn’t see them.

Felicia knew what she had to do.

“Pssst! Yumi,” she softly hissed.

She made a beckoning sign with her other hand.

((G11 Ramona Shirley Start))
To be totally honest, Ramona was scared out of her mind. Scared shitless, really.

But, she was trying to put on a brave face, and so that was how she found herself sitting behind a tree, trying to catch her breath. She woke up in a field, freaked out, and sprinted. As far as she could, until she saw a building. Now though, she was just trying to stay calm. Stay confident. Stay fierce. Or simply, just try to stay alive. No matter how much Ramona tried to keep cool, her mind kept on returning to the bus. To the guts. To Mr. Dolph. No, to Mr. Dolph's body. His soul wasn't in that, that shell. It couldn't be. She would've prayed for his soul, for it to go up to the Good Man above all of that good shit, but right now, she really felt as if there were better things to concentrate on, such as not dying here.

Oh God, she really didn't want to die. Ramona didn't want anyone to die, really, and the thought of killing another person, another breathing, living person? That thought made her sick, like some bad Mexican food. In general, she felt like she was trapped. Trapped by this stupid fucking game, by these evil-ass terrorists who just seemed to want to get innocent teens to murder each other. Why? Ramona clenched her fists, holding her bag more tightly, trapping it. If they wanted to get a show, well, they definitely weren’t going to get one from her.

In the end though, she just hoped that no one would end up becoming a killer, that no one would end up playing this shitty little “game”. But, Ramona knew this wasn’t a game. It was just some kind of sadistic shit! It wasn't like some game of pick-up basketball. No timeouts, no breaks. No quarters either. Just life and death. In any case, Ramona was still pissed. And pretty fearful, too, but it wasn’t as if people would just start killing right now, right? Perhaps she should’ve been out there, getting people to rise up, revolt against this game, save people, but instead, Ramona continued to sit, staring at the bag she held in her hands. The bag that branded her as G11, the one that branded her as nothing more than a number. A fucking number. That was probably all that she was worth to those terrorists anyways. She just couldn’t. Just, just, no. NO. NO. She wasn’t just about to let these terrorists have their way with her and her class. It couldn’t end like this.

She was just about ready to finally stand up and do something when she started to hear the crying. Who was that? Ramona just wanted to approach them, give them a hug to make sure everything was alright, but was that going to be safe? Going to be smart? But, she couldn’t just sit there and hear this person wail about their life. She had to do something, and so, that was exactly what she did. Slowly peeking out from the tree, Ramona saw...Lyndi? Oh God, it was Lyndi, wasn't it? Cheerful Lyndi, always willing to lend a hand, now...a bit of a mess, to be honest. Tightly gripping her bag, Ramona began to call out to her, to comfort her. “Hey, Lyndi? It's Ramona. You need a hand, girl?" Please, please be okay. If she could help just one of her friends on this hellish-ass island, she would take the chance.

Yumi heard someone calling her name, or at least she thought she did. She jerked her head upward, her eyes shooting open as she looked to the pulpit. It seemed that she wasn't going mad, as there was someone peeking out from behind the altar, motioning for her to come closer. Yumi was a little apprehensive at first, but something about this person was familiar to her. That long, curly hair, the green jacket... Felicia!

Felicia was one of the few people from school that Yumi felt she knew really well. They both liked writing and were in the writing club, and they were friends. She couldn't dredge up anything else at the moment, but she didn't need any more convincing. Felicia was always nice to her. She was good. Of all the people to run into, this was probably the luckiest possibility. Yumi skittered over to her, keeping her head down and sliding into position next to her.

"Hi Felicia." She greeted her friend, sounding out of breath thanks to her parched throat. Her eyes fell to the mysterious device in Felicia's hands, which she promptly pointed to. "Um... w-what's that?"

She didn't know how long she'd been crying, but it was enough for her eyes to sting from the wind and the front of her nose and mouth to become coated with translucent mucus. She wiped herself down with the back of her hand. If she had any concern for how she looked right now, she'd have been horrified by the terrible way her face was flaring into red from the bursts of emotion. But she wasn't. She couldn't.

To Lyndi, the thought of dying before she'd even been given a chance to live her life was terrifying. It dragged her down, made her feel nothing but hopelessness, something she wasn't sure she could ever leave at the door even if she wanted to. And even if she managed to get over this way she was feeling, what then? What was she supposed to do? Was she supposed to start killing her classmates, even those whom she didn't wish any ill will towards, let alone the ones she loved?

Before she could think anymore about the awfulness that was going to follow in the next few days, she heard her name. Glancing up towards the trees she'd so recently just run out of herself, she saw a friend. She saw Ramona.

"Oh, Ra-Ramona, I-" Lyndi started, before using her hand to find the windowsill of the building behind her, pulling herself from the dirt. She stood there, straightening herself, trying to think of anything to say.

"I'm fine, I just...I just..."

Lyndi couldn't think of anything to come after that wasn't depressing or a lie. So she just stopped speaking.

Felicia saw Yumi flinch, but she turned her head towards the pulpit. A glimmer of recognition had crossed her face as she repeated her name back. Felicia tensed for a second, but Yumi slowly got closer. Then, she plopped herself close.

Felicia wanted to wrap her arms around her, to be sure that everything was alright. But she couldn’t move. It could freak her out, if she just did that suddenly. She took a deep breath.

“I’m glad you’re alright,” Felicia said.

She smiled anyways. But she looked down at the GPS.

“It’s… what they gave me. It looks like a GPS,” she said, moving it closer to Yumi so that she could see. However, one of her fingers gestured towards the screen.

Felicia’s finger was directed towards “G003.” However, she frowned some when she saw that someone else was nearby. This one was “G011.” So, more people. She had no idea if they were just as friendly, or if they were waiting for them to go outside, or what.

“There are more people outside,” she continued, keeping her voice down. “I don’t know who, and I don’t know if we should find out.”

It could be more friends. It could be someone who they could help, or someone who’d help them. That was one reason to check it out. But… was it worth looking outside if someone was dangerous?

Seeing Lyndi, seeing her curled up in a ball just crying as if that was all she could do with her life sent a pang of sadness all throughout Ramona. She recalled days of sipping ginger ale and gossiping, trying on clothes even if she probably couldn't afford them, just happier times, when they weren't being forced to fight for their lives. When all they needed to worry about were exams, how their romantic life was going, not all of this shit with these terrorists. Even she was still the fat girl, just entering high school, Lyndi treated her with respect and kindness. She was always one of the good ones. That was why Ramona knew she needed to something for her, right here, right now. Give her a hug or something, give her a hand.

Stepping out from behind the tree she was resting on, Ramona started making her way towards Lyndi, trying to look casual and confident. Confident. That's what Ramona needed to be, for her friends and everyone else on this island. She needed to be strong, she needed to stay strong, for them. There had to be a way off this island, there had to be.

But right now, what she was focused on was helping Lyndi be herself again. Yes, she kind of wanted to just sob and sob too, but she knew she couldn't do that. There was too little time to be wasted, too many things to think about her to allow her to let her guard down like that. She needed to be caring, needed to be warm, but that didn't mean she could be sensitive. A plan was what she needed to help everyone here escape safely. She probably needed to find it soon. She hoped Jesus could help.

In this moment, though, all she did was wrap her arms around Lyndi, enveloping her in a tight hug. "Come on, girl, you can do this. Stay positive, that's what we need." She cooed, trying to reassure her friend. Positive thinking was what they were gonna need to stay alive, and she hoped that by helping Lyndi, they could get through this all right.

That was the Shirley way.

"Oh..." Yumi looked down at the screen of Felicia's GPS. In the center were two dots, labeled G022 and G015. A hint of familiarity flashed through her mind, and she checked the number on her bag. Sure enough, it was G015. Felicia must have known she was there before she even said hello. That GPS was such a useful tool... but it was also quite scary. Somehow, it knew when someone was nearby, so it must have had some way to track them. And if Felicia could do it, then there was no doubt that the kidnappers could too. Yumi shuddered at the thought.

She followed Felicia's finger to the other two blips onscreen. There were other people around. She put her head up and looked around the chapel for any hints of other people, but could see nothing of note. They had to be outside. If the others were outside, that meant that they didn't know that she and Felicia were there. They had time to prepare for whatever may pass. The advantages provided by the GPS may well wind up saving their lives.

"Okay, um..." Yumi tried to steady her nerves. Her stutter got worse when she was stressed, and she wanted to say what she needed to as clearly as possible. "We don't know w-who they are, so maybe we should stay here for n-now?" She rubbed the back of her hand. "I mean... just to be s-safe, you know?"

Truthfully, Yumi had no idea whether they would be safer staying put or moving out. She just preferred sticking with one person that she could trust over going out and running into more people that she couldn't.

Lyndi wished she could be like Ramona right now. Lyndi wished she could be confident, comforting, a help to friends like herself, even in spite of what was going on. She still wanted to cry, to let everything out, but now she had to bottle it up.

The hug felt so good though. She needed it.

"Tha-thank you," Lyndi sighed. If she wanted to live, she was going to need to be stronger than this. But every thought led back to what she would need to do to live, and it wasn't something she could do. She was never going to be able to kill someone, even someone she didn't like. So what was she going to do now?

The only thing she could think of was following Ramona's words. Stay positive. It's all she could really do right now.

Ramona eventually released Lyndi from the hug. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, grazing the metal collar along the way with her fingers. Just another reminder of what they were going through, as if everything else wasn't enough.

"I think...I think we should stay together."

It was an idea. Something to work towards, something easy, for now.

"Do you think we should find others? Our friends? There's so many people I want to find, before..."

Lyndi once again couldn't finish her sentence, at least like this. She started again.

"There's so many people I need to find."

Ah, so Yumi was thinking something similar. Maybe it was best to stay here, in case they were someone dangerous. But what if they were friends?

Felicia glanced down at the GPS again. The blips were right side by side, close to each other. That didn’t make it better. Was it a conversation? A fight? They couldn’t hear something from outside, could they? But she looked back up at Yumi.

“Staying here might be best, yeah,” she said. “But… I can’t help but wonder if they’re friends of ours.”

Another glance at the GPS. They hadn’t moved much.

But she looked back up.

“Yumi… are you alright?” she asked.

She’d seemed scared. Felicia couldn’t blame her. Her own skin still crawled. She had no idea if they were going to be rescued, or if something was going to happen. But she didn’t want anyone to die.

As she released Lyndi from her hug, Ramona felt a feeling of calm envelop her body. Maybe hugging someone who was freaking out, a good friend, wasn't really that big of a good deed, but it still helped her to feel better about all of the shit that was going around just about now. Starting with small good deeds, and working her way up. Perhaps she could do that, help the kids on this island find peace, and help them get off of this hellhole, with her at the helm.

Hope was something that they'd need, and so she hoped that Lyndi felt a bit better about everything due to the hug. She was going to care for the rest of the kids here, because someone had to. Someone had to be there to catch them when they fell, and she was determined to do that, because if she didn't, who would?

She honestly didn't know the answer to that question.

She continued to look at Lyndi solemnly as the other girl continued to calm herself down, put her in the right state of mind to confront this. Ramona was considering giving Lyndi a bit of space to just be by herself for a bit, give her enough space to work shit out, when she asked if they should stay together. She smiled, a small but sincere one, looking at Lyndi. "Yeah, Lyndi I think we definitely should stay together. Two heads are better than one, right?"

Being alone wasn't something she was sure she'd cope with, so while on the inside she was deeply grateful for Lyndi's offer, she had to sound confident, stay confident, even if everything was gonna fall and break into a million pieces. There was no other way to be.

But, finding people, finding friends? She could totally agree with that. Those were small steps that they could take, to rise up against these people. "Any ideas as to where we should go? Like, I have no idea in hell where we could start." Maybe by talking about their options, they could end up somewhere safe, somewhere where they could work out a plan to stay alive, keep everyone alive. Or, at least find peeple they trusted.

There was so much to do, and truth be told, she wasn't sure if they could do it. With hope though, with belief, perhaps they could. They would.

A tear welled up in Ramona's eye. She stopped it from rolling down. Couldn't look like she was losing it.

Felicia was giving Yumi a lot to think about. She was right, a couple of their friends may have been outside, looking for help. But didn't it seem a little unlikely that a bunch of girls who just happened to be friends wound up gathering in the same area completely by chance? Plus, Yumi's social circle was extremely limited, so even if the girls happened to be friends of Felicia's, they might not think the same of her. That would mean that she would be the odd one out, and they might try to leave her behind, or worse...

... No. No, she couldn't believe that. Felicia wouldn't let the other girls do something like that. She was a nice person, and Yumi trusted her. She just didn't know who was on the other side, so it was hard for her to convince herself that she would be able to give them the same degree of trust. That wasn't greedy, was it? She just wanted to be safe, that's all it was.

Yumi would be lying if she said that she wasn't jolted a little when Felicia asked if she was okay. She was so busy wondering and worrying that she almost lost track of the girl right beside her.

"I'm okay..." No, that was a lie, and Yumi wasn't a very good liar. She knew it, too. She didn't even wait to be questioned before backtracking. "I'm really s-scared..." She wrapped her arms around, hugging herself lightly for comfort. She had a feeling that Felicia wanted to meet the girls outside, but she didn't. She really, really didn't. Her voice was small, but she still managed to get her opinion out on the matter.

"I don't want to t-talk to them."

"Well..."

Lyndi thought. She glanced around. She saw that the wall she'd so delicately collapsed against was also connected to a building.

"...we could check inside. There might be someone in there."
