TV3 Applications Are Open

#1

Attention, handlers:

As of this announcement, applications for TV3 are officially open! However, we have a few things to note.

First up, for the first two weeks, each handler may submit only a single character. At some point on January 15, 2020, second applications will be opened. This will be noted in a reply to this thread.

Please make sure to take note of the profile template and all setting information when drafting your character. Please note whether your character was accepted to the school through the scholarship program or by paying tuition, and furthermore please give a general idea of your student's ranking within the class (We don't need or want specific numbers, but somewhere in the range of a 10% percentile would be good).

Additionally, we are aware that TV often draws more handlers from Main/from outside Mini's traditional member base. That's awesome, and we're stoked to have you! There are a few differences in site culture/procedure to note, however, which will help make your adventures as smooth as possible.

First off, Mini has its own rulebook. While the core design between sites remains the same, there are several areas where rulings are different. It's worth giving at least the Core Rules a read. Don't hesitate to ask if anything confuses you!

Specifically of note is the Extreme Content Policy, which governs certain sensitive or frequently-mishandled subjects such as significant pre-game violence, abuse, and sexual assault. These subjects are not verboten per se, but in the interests of keeping a good leash on subjects that have heavy potential to cause harm to others, or to play poorly with the tone and style of the game, we ask that they be handled in detail in character profiles. Also, be aware that, if staff feel the risk of something being handled in problematic fashion is just too high, you may be asked to excise such elements.

However we are very aware that sometimes things change up over the course of Sandbox. Sometimes everything falls into place in a memory thread such that, you know, your kid really has to break somebody's arm in a Memory thread for you to feel like it resolved properly. We understand and are amenable to such developments--we just ask that, if you wish to add an element outlined under the Extreme Content Policy that does not appear in-profile to your character's story after their approval, you contact staff and secure permission before pressing ahead. Staff reserves the right to deny such requests, or to require that you make further profile edits if we believe such to be important. If you go off half-cocked and rush into such territory without getting approval, you will in all likelihood see the offending thread(s) declared non-canon at a minimum, and if staff suspects that action was intentionally misleading or a flagrant and knowing violation of the rules, consequences may be more severe. Do not do this. It will lead only to sorrow.

Additionally, on a lighter note, please be aware that The SOTF-TV Universe diverges from the real life world significantly more than does the Main SOTF setting. When writing your character, please make sure to spend a little time dwelling on how the character feels about the key differences. Are they a fan of SOTF? A vehement protester? Do they just wish everyone else would shut up about it? That sort of thing.

While Main has two phases of applications and allows Pregame-only characters, Mini does not. There is one round of applications, followed by a roll-call. Any character approved is assumed to be entering the game, unless explicitly withdrawn or passed over in the roll-call. Withdrawn characters may not be used further in Sandbox. This is to say, while Main is full of opportunities for off-island arcs, TV, with its shorter Sandbox and lack of outside-the-game framework (beyond the differently-focused World Of TV), is not the place for that sort of thing and you should not plan for it or you will be disappointed. You can give away characters if you want, but you cannot submit replacements until your roster is below two characters. That is to say, if you want to replace a character, you must first give them away (and have that adoption confirmed by staff) or else withdraw them officially.

Finally, as stated/required in the escape rules we are officially noting that Namira is sitting out all inside escape knowledge for TV3. This makes MW the grand escape guru and communications/plans/complaints should be directed to him or to other staff who are not on the exclusion list (currently including all other staff). We're trying to break this rule in a bit/normalize the shifting pool/process, so expect to see various staffers sitting out escape info in versions from here on, even if they're not necessarily going to actually interface with the rules.

Phew. That all said, submit your character here.

Cactus has also opted out. All other Mini staff have explicitly opted in. No details have been settled on by staff yet and no privileged information has been imparted on those who are opted out. MW remains Escape Czar (but you can prod any staffer but Cactus and Namira too; whoever you approach, it's all headed for committee regardless).

You may now submit your second character application.

Please note you may only have one character in the queue at a time. However, you may submit a second profile immediately after approval of the first, should you so wish.
