Time To Pretend

Done: Day 3.

The most frequently traveled beach, if only for its proximity to the only real civilization on the island. The students who spend their time here will find a few abandoned food and merchandise vendors strewn about, and the occasional litter and seaweed washed up on the shores.

[[Shawn Morrison Continued From: Kids.]]

"I am soo - Baked."

"I think." Shawn stared blankly ahead, with the corners of his lips slowly raising into a smile. "No yeah I am... I think."

He checked his watch: 4:20.

Huha.. Nice.

*
*
The group of Shawn, Mae and Zach, had traveled in a straight line forward, avoiding any unnecessary detours, passing the geyser, the tar pits and the other lake. By the look of beach they were in and the description that came with the map, they had finally reached their intended destination. Which means they'd probably gone diagonally from the Coastal Lake all the way down to the Resort Beach.

Along the shores, before the sand began, there was a long concrete pathway, with food vendors, and merchandise shops aligned. It was in these vendors and shops that the three kids, had began their search for supplies and important people they knew from school. Like Renée and her 'SOTF-TV escape knowledge' that Shawn was starting to question, himself. Could they really do it? He didn't want to hurt anyone. He still had hope.

There weren't much supplies in the buildings, except for some. But Shawn did find something in his own blazer. While searching one of the small tourist merchandise shops, Shawn dropped his blazer. As he picked it up, something fell out...
*
*

So now they were in that same tourist merchandise shop. Sitting around a circular table. Shawn couldn't remember if he put the container there himself... or if by Zach's suggestion; the producers planted it there... which would be pretty cool of them to be honest!

But the fact was Shawn had the other thing besides music, that could keep him relaxed.

He lit it up with the lighter from his first aid kit; smoke and essence shrouding the small shop's air. The door was closed, keeping the mood in as well. Then most of his worries just disappeared. Shawn was feeling super happy... and chill. Too bad Holly and Leopold, or any other of the cannabis enthusiast he knew of, wasn't here to join their little pot circle. He stuffed his face with some chips and candy, they found in one of the vendors, as he drank some coke. The mist rising in the background.

Shawn adjusted his bandanna as it began to slide down his head and over his eyes. As he pulled it up, he noticed a camera and flashed the two fingered peace sign at it. With the bandanna wrapped around his forehead, like a headband, over his shaggy hair, his retro-vintage neon blue sunglasses on his eyes, the peace sign necklace around his neck, and the bright golden clothing, as he took another puff of the joint, Shawn just looked like your stereotypical hippie boy.

But naw, Shawn was just simply being himself...

Real.

Again... he thought about it before back home, but he really needed to get that tattooed on his pec someday!

He forgot there were cameras here. He wondered if his Socialite Grandma Patty, was watching him getting stoned right now. She had no idea her young grandson was a pro at weed smoking. But even that wasn't gonna kill his buzz. If he made it out of here alive, then Grandma would have to overlook this. Hey Jan was probably laughing at watching her little bro in a pot circle, on TV!

He turned to the side of him, extending the joint in offer to Zach... or was it Mae? Didn't matter. He knew the etiquette concerning pot circles: Offer everybody, share! Shawn had a fair share of the pot himself, already.

"Want a sample? It's really invigorating. Pass it down, when you're done... and enter: The Promise Land."

Shawn didn't really pay attention if they had or not, once the joint was out of his hand. He was scanning the Merchandise Shop, and spotted what he had been looking for since the Coastal Lake.

Sweeeet...! An acoustic guitar hanging in display, with the Island Resort's logo printed on it.

"Heey, guys? You know what I really wanna do right now!?" He looked at the both of them, turning his head left and right, enthusiastically.

"There's a beach out there!" He started chuckling a little bit, before coughing.

"Wanna go outside with me later? I kinda feel like bringing that guitar out and then singing this song I know, in the sun!"

Probably a bad idea, but it was also a fun idea!

[[Zachariah Johnston Continued From: Kids.]]

Their little ensemble had walked, again, of into the horizon. It was almost a straight line between the two places, but they'd deviated slightly ever so often. Passing closer to the Tar Pits and the Geyser than was strictly nessecary. If just to appease the others sense of adventure.

Whilst they'd walked he'd jotted down the names of as many students from their year as he could remember. He had no idea who was actually here, but he wanted to have some idea, atleast. He found hmself hoping certain people werent here. Mike, Suz and all of those guys. They wouldnt stand a chance. He tried not to think who he wanted to be here. Frank

As the ground underneath them went from a dirt path, to an endless swathe of lush white sand. However, the sun was so hot, so oppressive. For him atleast. Shawn spent a lot of time of outside, and Mae was used to being under stage lights, which, by all accounts were even hotter.

Then, thankfully, someone suggested they go inside one of the little tacky merchandise shops. It was so cool inside there. And, there was a few scraps of candy, which was nice. If he was to have a last meal, it'd definetely involve cotton candy. As he tore of little chunks of blue fluff and dissolved then in his mouth he tried not to think of how this could be his last meal.

Shawn had found some blunt that he'd "Forgotten" he had in his blazer. A-Grade bullshit that, and he'd told him so. It was obviously the Producers. And it couldnt be a coincidence that there was easily enough for their group to get completely off their faces. Shawn did not carry that much, he was sure of it. Unless he dealt. He was pretty sure Shawn wasn't a drug dealer. He didnt have enough tracksuits.

He had, rather predictably, lit up as soon as he could. That light haze, a mist perpetualy floating in the air, blurring his vision and scratching the back of his throat.

"Want a sample? It's really invigorating. Pass it down, when you're done... and enter: The Promise Land."

What? Smoking? Drugs? Really? He blinked twice in rapid succesion.

His ma and da would be watching. Could he do it? Dissapoint them? They'd always told him to just say no.

"Just say no" He revolved that sentence in his head. What was the worst that could happen? He wasnt going to get addicted. And Shawn looked so chill, so relaxed, so cool.

"Uh... Kay, thanks Shawn" he said, taking it into his hand gingerly. He had no idea how to smoke. Shit.

He place it to his lips and inhaled, the smoke filling his mouth and sliding down his throat, tickling, scrathing, burning.

He coughed, lightly, then harder and harder. He felt lightheaded. He sucked in a deep lungful of air and tried to calm himself. He felt his cheeks tingle, he felt a little sick. He'd done it wrong. He tried again, taking in a very light drag of the weed. That was better. No coughing, no sicking, no lightheadness.

He was squirming in his seat though, he felt so restless. There was something he needed to do, sitting at the tip of his frontal lobes. He needed to do something. What was it?

He turned to Mae and offered her the weed, a relaxed smile on his face despite his agitated movements. He looked at her beautiful face for a moment, his eyes trailing longingly over each subtle curve.

Aaaaaarrrgh. What was it he'd needed, wanted to do? It was staring him in the face, he was sure of it!

(Sean Davidson continued from Wising Up)

Sean made his way down to the beach quickly enough...the island wasn't that big, so he was able to make it before too long.  He'd picked up on the group as they'd passed by the geyser as he'd left, and trailed along a ways behind...not stalking them, but following them all the same.  Taking his time to approach the shop they'd settled in (after all, his last encounter had gone so well), Sean knocked on the door.

"Hey...hey, Zach."

Great.  I walk from one mess into another.

From the scent in the air, Sean was guessing that Zach was getting far more than half-baked...and that odor caused Sean to cough.  Still...some company was better than no company, right?

"How's it going?"

He leant back in his chair, the front two legs lifting off the ground. He felt a little weird. He'd stopped staring now, settling for just enjoying the view out of the window. The waves crashing on the shore, the way the sea just blended with the horizon. The footsteps in the sand.

Wait, what?

He sat back down, the legs of the chair reconnecting with the floor with a dull thump. Were those footprints there's? No, they'd come from the back. Hadn't they? He clicked his fingers one by one. His heartbeat was rising. He could feel it, that surge of fear, adrenaline, dopamine. All that good stuff.

Was he wrong? He was wrong, right? Hah, wrong, right. There was a joke there, but it escaped him. Anyway, paranoia was one of the side affects of marujana use. Along with scizophrenia. Oh god, he didnt want to start hearing voices. That'd be horrible. Mind you, he talked to himself already, but that wasnt insanity, more boredom.

He leant back again and breathed in deeply.

"Hey...hey, Zach." His eyes snapped open. Oh god, scizophrenia. Here it comes, now they'll start telling me to burn things.

He turned to where the voice was coming from, only to see a fammilliar face. Sean. Sean was here.

"Oh... Hi Sean!" He welcomed, leaning further back in his chair

"How's it going?"

"Not bad... You?" He smiled and grabbed another rollie, lighting it, then pointing it at him "Feel like lighting up?"

"Not bad... You?" He smiled and grabbed another rollie, lighting it, then pointing it at him "Feel like lighting up?"

Sean shrugs in response.  "I guess it could be worse."  Oh, no, he's only on a TV show where his chance of living is...maybe one in twenty.  Then again, he could be on a version of the show where it is every person for himself.

The thought of smoking...anything...would normally not appeal to Sean.  He's not normally of that personality type.  It's just not who he is.  Today, however...

"Show me how to hold it?"  There's a smile on his face as he asks.  Yes, he's taking Zach up on his offer.  On national television.  The idea of something to relax him...well, it's far better than the last encounter he had.

What can it hurt?

And with that, Sean slowly extends his hand to accept the joint, not quite sure how to do so...but oddly looking forward to at least one new experience on this island that didn't involve getting murdered.  It's more than he figured he had any right to expect.

(Mae St. Clair continued from Kids)

"Hold on a minute," Mae cut in. She had been quietly watching this unfold, wondering if it would be okay if she only had one puff. Mae had only ever been drunk before...she hand't ever smoked anything in her entire life for fear that it would hurt her lung function. Now...who cared? The more pressing thing against her lung function now was probably going to be a bullet.

She wrapped her fingers around Zach's wrist, pulling the hand over to her lap. She hadn't thought of it, but he had offered it to the new boy just wandering in and it was her turn. Making sure she didn't light her jeans on fire, she plucked the joint from Zach's fingers before he could say anything and brought it to her lips. It was aggressive and bossy of her, but Mae could be whatever she wanted to be now, try whatever she wanted...

And maybe she wanted to try this.

She mimicked the boys, breathing the smoke deep into her lungs. Immediately the coughing started, and she looked nervous, was she doing it wrong? Her head started to feel floaty, funny, not like being drunk at all. She took another drag, thinking about how glamourous the movie stars looked in films when they smoked. This was a little different.

Mae giggled. She was a star now. She held the joint out to Sean now.

"Sorry," she said. "I just didn't want to be skipped."

The entire thing seemed incredibly unreal and hilarious. She tried not to giggle and instead attempted to keep her face neutral.

It was incredibly hard to do so.

(( Oh, Permission to skip was granted by Keaka via PM again BTW ))

"Show me how to hold it?" He laughed. Did Sean think he knew any more than he did? Hell, all he knew about smoking was that your supposed to inale. He'd only seen people smoke on TV a few times, and most of that time he'd been focusing on other things. Like the girls smoking them. For some reason girls appeared to smoke alot more than guys in SOTF, or the occasional porn or action film that made up his viewing materiel. Sure, it was usually the femme fatale's and the popular girls, but pretty much no guys smoked. It had always confuzzled him.

"Hahaha, I dunno, just dont touch the lit b-" He said, before stopping out of suprise. Mae was grasping his wrist for some reason. He looked at it in shock for a second, barely noticing that his hand had been moved into her lap. Then his hand brushed her inner thigh and he felt little sparks of pleasure course through his body.

He looked up at her, watching little puffs of smoke waft from her mouth as she coughed on the fumes, just like he had. His face broke into a grin that expressed a mixture of sympathy, and amusement as her grace was cracked for a split second. Then she took another drag and he realised why there was so much attention over girls smoking.

It was soooo hot.

Her giggling was awesome too. It was so girly and cute and lighthearted. She sounded so happy!

She apologised to Sean and he smiled a cute innocent smile, completely forgetting where his hand was in relation to her private parts as he rubbed her leg reassuringly. She felt cold. He wasnt sure why she felt cold, as it was so hot. He felt so hot, yet she was so cold.

"Thanks."

Sean accepted the joint without any objections, trying to hold it as far back from the burning end as possible.  Both Zach and Mae got a smile as he took a deep breath off of it...

...and promptly coughed up a lung.  He'd never smoked anything, and he definitely inhaled too deeply for a first time.  His body, naturally, did not appreciate the gesture.

"Shit..."  Cough.  Cough.  "...that's not what..."  Cough.   "I was expecting."

The hacking stopped after a moment as the smoke cleared his lungs...and then the effects of the joint hit him, bringing a rather mellow smile to his face.  He handed the joint back to keep it going around (no sense in losing half of the joint to it burning while not being smoked, after all), just letting the slightly goofy grin on his face do his talking for him.

That's...good stuff...

((Posting with permission. Continued from... Wising Up ))

It turned out Ben couldn't get too far away from the geyser.

Delaying whichever route he intended, a trio walked down a nearby path, heading in the direction of the tar pits and maybe--he guessed--to the beach where he'd been shot at. Having taken shelter in an annoyingly prickly bush, Ben scanned their faces, squinting slightly as he recognized two of them.

The hippie dude who'd called him Ben-o and Zach, the guy who'd had the PDA.

Spotting them was enough for him to decide to follow. After all, they were the only familiar faces he'd seen on the entire island. However, he waited, wanting some distance from them so he could escape if necessary.

His wisdom proved sound when Sean--another from the Geyser--followed after them too. Ben's brows furrowed. He hadn't wanted to be grouped with weakness. But what about the others? The question nagged and familiarity alone won over other misgivings.

Along the way, Ben finally pulled off the purple bandana. He walked along for a while just like that and doing so gave him an odd sense of freedom. He was a member of the pink team and not masquerading as something else. He was...himself. Well, as much as himself as he could be in a game where he'd play a part in murdering a bunch of other kids.

But then he paused and hid to watch the three scour the beach while their follower lagged behind. Ben knew it would soon be time to play a role again. He just had to figure out which one.

So when they went into the building and the straggler did the same, Ben found his way in the space between two weather-beaten food vendors. He briefly considered his shooter might still be lurking about, but nothing happened. Of course, a curious smell reached him. Ben had been around enough clinics to realize what drugs smelt like and he thought of his mother, then. Just like SOTF-TV, she lambasted drugs as a detriment to society. As if she were society's keeper and preserver or something. Ben scoffed and wondered what she'd think if he went over and knocked on that door too.

Probably not. But, maybe, Ben thought. Even if the other three had some amazing weapons, they likely wouldn't be in any position to use them. On the other hand, anyone else might come along.

Maybe...he thought again, resting his forehead against the wood of the wall and staring towards a particular merchandise hut.

Mae could feel everything as though her skin was full of exposed nerves. Zach gave a slight caress of her thigh and it made her want to crawl out of her skin. At first her brain told her that this was awesome, and then it felt wrong...and then she remembered the dead snake.

Her eyes were glassy as her fixed her face into some sort of smile mask. She eased back a little, hoping that he would get the hint and move his hand. She had taken the joint, it had been passed on, why was it still there? She shot a look at Shawn and rather enjoyed  that gold shirt on him. It was so shiny.

She reached out to touch the gold shirt on his chest, hoping it was about as silky as it looked in her head. The feel of his firm flesh clothed in such material was positively delicious.

Mae snatched her hand back as she realized what she was doing. "Sorry," she said, trying really hard not to giggle. "It just looked so shiny."

He laughed as Sean fell prey to the temptation to breath in far too heavily, like he had. His grating cough echoed in his head. Or was that someone else? Meh, what did it matter? Then a look of sympathy as he carried on coughing far beyond what he'd done. He patted him on the back lightly.

"You need some fresh air, dude?" He asked, getting up before he could reply. He needed some air. He was sure his eyes were watering from the smoke. His fingers dragged along Mae's skin for a moment as he got up. She was talking to Shawn about shiny stuff. Shiny stuff was cool. Water, gold, steel, all good stuff.

He paused for a moment before kicking of his shoes and peeling off his sweat drenched socks. He wanted to feel the sand against his feet, sliding inbetween his toes. It'd be nice. He imagined it being fluffy, like cotton candy, like clouds and he cracked a grin. Sand was tiny little pebbles, if it was fluffy, then stones were fluffy...

He wanted a fluffy stone. That'd be so cool!

He left the building and felt the sand between his toes, warm and gritty. It was nice. A grin was on his face as he turned back to look at Sean, to make sure he had made it out and not died of coughingness. Did he have asthma? He shouldve asked.

Sean took a glance over at Mae and grinned goofily as the marijuana took hold over his mind: There's something about a first hit of anything that makes it all the more intense, and the dope was no different.

"You need some fresh air, dude?"

"Yeah...I think I could..."

Sean stood up...a bit too quickly, perhaps, and took a moment to catch his balance as a spot of dizziness hit him.  As he leveled out (much to the amusement, no doubt, of the viewers at home), he looked over at Mae...and grinned even more broadly.

"You...look hot...you know that?  Really hot..."  And just like that, Sean's right hand took one of those oh-so-not-subtle sweeps, getting a good "feel" for the lay of a certain bit of land.  Turning back to Zach, he simply shrugged.  "Well, let's go..."

"Oh... High Shawn!?" Zach asked him rather happily.

"Huha... YUP!" Shawn rather happily said back in response.

But then there was another voice, a new voice in the shop. Then there was another kid sitting around the round table with them. Where the heck did he come from? Zach was even talking to the guy like he was here the whole time, like they were friends or something, or maybe they were. This was freaking Shawn out, man! What was going on?

"Y-your name... is Shawn too?" Shawn finally realized as he listened to the two boy's chat.
"Duude. Are you my brother?" He stared at the kids' face blankly and then blinked twice.

Then he saw the stuffed monkey on the shelf, merchandise for the rainforest. He picked it off and sat back down, rubbing the furry stuffed animal against his face. Then he watched and chuckled at the pot smoking newbies have their share of the stash. He looked at the monkey again. "Are you my brother?"

Shawn looked around the table. They were all getting stoned. Including Miss Mae herself. Never in a million years he thought he'd ever see that!!! In fact this entire group around him were hilarious. These weren't any of the types of kids he'd be hanging around, like this back home.

He noted the smiles. It made Shawn happy, that even with the situation they were all in, he managed to make them all happy. It happened to be particularly noticed on Mae's face. An ever present smile was on it. That like never happened with Mae.

Two hands extended themselves to Shawn. One was the joint going down the circle, it was supposedly his turn again. The other was Mae's hand. Shawn took a hit and put his own two hands in the air in front of his face and looked at them a little. They were, big and (he discovered this back home, when he was completely sober) at like certain angles, you could even see through them. It's like the mental mystics were working their psychadelic magic on him. "Trippy."

Then he felt hands on his body, like they were massaging his chest. Not that he minded... they-it felt pretty comforting. He looked down, the delicate feminine hands were none other than Mae's. Shawn in response raised an eyebrow and turned his mouth into a toothy smile.

She apologized for touching him, and Shawn didn't understand why she felt like she needed to. She said it was cause his shirt was shiny.

"Don't worry about it Miss Mae. If you wanted to touch and feel the shirt, just ask!"
He pulled the gold shirt off and examined it. The silky gold cloth of his shirt was pretty shiny. With his bandanna he had been thinking that the whole day.

He held the shirt out to her as Zach and the other Shawn, or was it Sean? Started heading out of the shack, to the beach. Two Shawn's? My mind is soo blown.

But before the other Shawn/Sean guy followed Zach he did something, that Shawn's baked mind could only register slowly after about a minute of staring blankly. Unlike Mae's touchy feely-ness on Shawn's chest... Sean's touchy feely-ness on Mae's didn't look very welcome... at all.

The katana was out of its saya before Mae even had a chance to blink. Suddenly she was on her feet, the light leeching out of her eyes and the business end of the blade pointing at the boy who had the audacity to grope wildly at her. How had she gotten here? It was so quick, all of a sudden she was there...all of a sudden she was threatening him.

It felt very powerful. The movements, they almost felt like dancing.

Her normally warm golden eyes now shone cruelly dark, like packed earth. Mae was breathing heavily, angrily, her chest straining against the tightness of her tank top.

She had hated the feeling of his casual touch, the fact that he thought calling her attractive was enough to violate her. Never. Ever. She thought of all the boys who had touched her there, the awkward pressing against her in the backseats of cars, the belief that it was a right of theres...it was not right. It would never be right.

"Sean, is it? Hi Sean. I know that we're all having a nice time right now, that it's very vacation like, but I'd like to point out a nice little addition to your neckware there."

She lightly tapped her blade against the metal of his collar.

"We are allowed to kill each other. I could, if I was so very inclined, jam this blade into your neck up to the hilt. I want you to remember that, Sean. The next time you decide to get grabby. I will gut you. I will gut you and then I will walk away and forget that you ever existed because that is how little i care for people like you. Your advances are not welcome, and I'd really appreciate it if you got that air now."

She stared at him, daring him to say anything else.

He stood there for a second, just casually observing the situation from his hazy bubble. A second is a very short amount of time, but it was enough for Mae to leap up off her chair as Sean placed his filthy hands all over her. By the time the clink of metal on metal echoed throughout the room, he was almost shaking with rage. He watched as her expression took a dark tone, noticing how his mirrored it. His eyes were dark and his somewhat zoned out smile had a cruel tinge to it.

It was rather weird how quickly the mood had changed. From distant serenity, to an almost tangible mix of fear and tension.

He didnt care. This bastard had pissed of Mae in the extreme, and oh boy did that make Zach feel angry. He had promised to not let aything upset her. He was going to keep that promise. No matter the cost.

"I'd really appreciate it if you got that air now." He got that hint. That little, subtle indication of what he was being asked to do. Protect her. He searched her face for a moment, looking for comfirmation. He got it. A little, almost imperceviable nod of the head. He grabbed Sean's wrist andpulled him outside, his grip just a little too tight for it to be friendly.

He felt that anger, that frustration, all those emotions that seemed so alien to him as they drove his body towards a need. A need to lash out, a need to inflict revenge, a need for something physical. It was all of them, yet none of them that threw reason to the wind as he turned him around suddenly, and slammed a fist that had been balled tightly from the moment he had violated Mae, into his face.

There was a noise, a squelch, as he wrought damadge. Then a crack as the boy's head impacted the wall. He stopped for an instant, debating it in his head. Should he do more? He felt the blood dripping off his knuckles, he saw that he was in pain, but something was missing. He was still alive.

His smile grew wider as the adrenaline mixed with the weed as he drew his fist back for another blow, aiming for the stomach.
