The Port

The port is defined by a concrete jetty and an assortment of support structures. This area is the one spot where the cliffs hemming the coast on all sides are relatively gentle in slope and traversable without perilous effort. A single paved road large enough for service by small trucks connects the port to the town, lined on both sides by wooden boardwalk-esque walkways.

  • The Docks [DANGER ZONE]
Twin pylons jut out into the choppy arctic waters, extending above the sea with a vertical clearance equivalent to that of a two story building. The docks are lined by three severely rusted and dilapidated steel cranes; from one of these, a steel shipping container is suspended idly in mid-air. There are several other empty shipping containers strewn about the area. A massive warehouse controls access to the docks, through a set of huge, half-open hangar doors that would take quite an effort to move. The warehouse is subdivided into two obvious levels: a ground floor that is largely clear in the center, with empty steel drums and crates stacked against the walls, and an upper level of single-person narrow metal grating accessible by narrow maintenance stairwells, with an assortment of scaffolding set up to maintain the now-broken rows of industrial pot lights.

  • The Submarine Pen
Jutting out of one of the dock’s cliff sides is a concrete tube, its mouth partially sealed by flood gates. The bulk of the pen is complete, although much of the support infrastructure for servicing submarines was obviously left unfinished. Dangerously shaky scaffolding sits next to abandoned machinery gutted for its wiring long ago. Much of this underground area is dark, and flooded by stagnant water, thinly iced over and deep enough to drown in should the ice crack underfoot.

  • The Powerhouse [DANGER ZONE]
An imposing brick building with a single chimney and several large factory-esque windows. This was the location of the island’s power generators and fuel storage tanks. The inside is bare and has little furnishing, being mostly dominated by the decrepit generators. The massive fuel storage tanks are mostly empty, though they still reek of fuel. Several unopened drums of fuel oil sit idle in a storage room beside the main generator hall, and were clearly neglected after the island was abandoned.
