Freedom is a fleeting dream, an ephemeral hope, a transient wish in the wind.

Day 2, post-announcement, 11AM-ish. Open.

Built not long after the community's arrival on the island, the lighthouse was never realistically going to last very long. Requiring many renovations during its lifespan due to less-than-stellar construction practices, the lighthouse eventually met its end during the same storm that capsized the yacht. Now its interior is exposed to the elements with only what's left of its wooden walls able to shield those who seek shelter inside.

"HIS NAME IS MARCO, YOU-!"

Catherine didn't finish that sentence, as the tears were getting to be too much. She had to stop before she crossed the line. She felt that somehow, that remark was enough for her to be over it, but maybe she could find her way back.

She sniffled, before wiping her eyes. She turned back to the lighthouse without another word.

“I take the legs, you take...” Willow looked at Philip’s face. Or at least, what used to be there. “The other side.” She made a mental note to avoid getting shot in the face.

Willow set her bag on the floor, but put the stun gun in her back pocket. She couldn’t quite bring herself to trust anyone, and a little shock stick would totally help to scare people away. It was still sticky from yesterday. Marco’s eye had spilled over the handle. The excitement of getting a new weapon overshadowed the rest, and now, her hand was also sticky.

As she bent down to pick up Philip’s ankles, she heard a voice coming from the outside through a window. Well, where there used to be a window because now it was a just hole with cobwebs and dead insects. The legs were about 3 inches above the ground when Willow’s brain finally deconstructed what the girl had said.

Willow let the boy’s legs fall to the ground. His feet touched hers and Willow recoiled back like a rattlesnake. Dead bodies were kind disgusting, and particularly uncanny. It was looking inti an abyss and finding that it was staring back with two beady, cloudy eyes. The worse part is that it felt like they could just stand up and move around any moment. It was as if their injuries, even if gruesome and deadly, could just have made them faint, and maybe they were just sleeping. Suddenly, they would just wake up and scream. The idea of feeding bodies to the ocean’s sea life was also very practical. Good on you, Catherine.

Willow wiped her hands on her pants, both to get rid off the eye juice and the blood off her hands. She grabbed the stun gun, moving her thumb up and down the button without activating it while her head contorted toward Katrina.

“Question: what’s Cat’s weapon?” She coughed. She didn’t need to cough but she need an intermission. “You know, not you.”

Katrina started to make her way over to the dead boy's body. Willow had claimed the legs, which put Katrina in the unfortunate position of being near his head. She had definitely never touched a dead body before, and she felt uneasy about touching it. Willow seemed a little more cavalier about it, so maybe it wasn't as terrible as Katrina thought. Either way, Katrina would have to steel herself for this.

She couldn't even get over to the body before they heard shouting outside. Katrina yelped and kept her arms close to her chest. She had no idea what was going on out there, but she really hoped it didn't mean Catherine and Sierra were in trouble.

Willow asked about Catherine's weapon. Katrina shook her head.

"I don't know," she said. "I didn't see her with one when I found her."

Katrina bit her lower lip and looked around. Her nodachi was still resting on her bags. She gulped.

"You don't think Sierra's in danger, do you?"

Was she going to have to draw the sword again? She sincerely hoped not.

Sierra was taken aback by the sudden outburst, her arms moving in response to reach for the gun but she manage to catch herself and stopped as soon as she began. She looked down at the ground, ashamed that she almost escalated things. She couldn't blame Catherine for getting emotional after everything that happened, and she really didn't want this situation to take a sudden turn for the worse.

Sierra moved to follow Catherine, quickening her pace to walk along side her as they made their way back to the lighthouse. They walked in silence for a moment as Sierra considered her words.

"I'm sorry," she said, breaking the silence after a while. "I don't know if you were close to... Marco or anything, but I'm sorry. I know that probably doesn't make things better and I get it if you hate me for what I did — which I totally get — but... well... there it is."

Sierra grimaced a little. Not the best apology she could have given but she could think of anything else to say. At least nothing she was reasonably certain wouldn't escalate the situation. The last thing she wanted was for the two of them to come to blows when they should be working together at the moment.

Catherine didn't say anything as Sierra caught up with her. She didn't respond as Sierra rattled off an apology. It was a pretty bad apology.

"You..." she started, "I think you broke him."

It was a weird way to phrase it, but Catherine couldn't really think of a better... different... way to say it.

"He... I..."

She considered her words carefully. Or tried to, anyway. It wasn't working out too well.

"He... when we freed him, he... talked about..."

Catherine trailed off. She couldn't say it. She couldn't say that Marco had talked about killing people. Specifically Sierra, Willow and Arjen.

"You think he'd be saying those things if you hadn't taped him to the tree?" she asked, as she entered the lighthouse.

So, you know, apology not accepted.

"....possibly."

Miscommunication had the tendency to kill people. Especially here, where everyone was on their last nerves. If Sierra right now was dead or injured, what would this do to Willow? She would need to find a new ally. However, she didn't quite want to run away from the scene.

"Let's ask."

Someone had entered the lighthouse at the moment she had the idea to scream out their name. It was Catherine. She didn't seem hurt. Sierra would totally do a number on her if she was going to die. She was one feisty bitch, and Willow loved that.

"Is everything okay?" Obviously not, but she didn't say that. "Did you like kill Sierra? Probably not, right?"

In this moment, Willow regretted having no filter.

Katrina glanced around the lighthouse. Willow didn't seem to think anything was wrong, but wanted to ask. Catherine returned to the lighthouse, and Willow tried to make a joke about Sierra. Katrina had to glance away from Willow when she said that.

Maybe it was because she didn't know what Catherine was holding, or maybe Willow had a better gauge on her than she did, but suddenly, Katrina felt scared. She didn't want to have to use her sword on others, but now she was starting to doubt who she was around.

But it was also possible the stress of the situation was getting to Katrina and she had to just chill out. What did her mother often say? "If you're running along a path blindfolded, be prepared to trip." It was supposed to be some motivational talk about how rushing into things might cause one to ignore the dangers around them. Maybe it seemed a bit over-the-top, but it definitely made her mom a success, so maybe she should try it here.

"I...I'm sure Sierra's fine," Katrina said. "Besides, we still have to finish the funeral."

God, she hoped that was enough.

Sierra grimaced, her eyes darting to the ground. Catherine wasn't saying outright what Marco said but from context clues, Sierra had some semblance of an idea what might have gone down. She broke him? Possibly, but given the evidence that she saw, from him having Kelly's bag without Kelly and forcing the other guy — Arjen was it? — to act as his pack mule, she figured he must have been a little damaged before the incident. All she and Willow would have really done was push him further off the edge as it were.

Did she regret what she had to do? Maybe a little, but she had to keep reminding herself it was necessary to survive and to take a dangerous weapon from a dangerous person. Still, if he were to go on to kill people all because she and Willow made him crack... Well... Sierra figured it might be a little hard to see the big picture behind a pile of corpses.

She didn't answer immediately, merely mulling over how she should respond as she followed Catherine into the lighthouse, just catching Willow asking Catherine if she had killed her and Katrina saying she was probably fine.

"No, she killed me dead." She snarked as she entered, her lips quivering a little as she tried to maintain a neutral expression. "I'm a ghost now. Boo, motherfucker."

Maybe it wasn't a right time to crack a joke, but given the situation she felt a bit of levity was needed to help break the tension a little.

"As for your question, Catherine, I can't say for sure." she shrugged. "I got the impression that maybe he would, but we can discuss that another time. For now let's handle the rest."

Catherine bit her lip anxiously as she was suddenly accosted as soon as she re-entered the lighthouse. She'd hoped that she was more trustworthy than to have killed Sierra just because they were alone. For a moment, she was worried that she had in fact crossed the point of no return with her remark, and she turned back to see Sierra behind her, making a joke about the whole thing.

She was just... so tired of this whole thing. She was beginning to wonder if this whole thing was worth it.

But... she had already come this far, and it seemed like, the atmosphere had returned to normal.

Well, relatively. She nodded as Sierra tried to bring everything back on track.

"Yes," she agreed, "Please."

"...and sometimes... I still hear Sierra's voice in the wind."

Willow put her taser back in her back pocket. As long as Sierra was around, Willow shouldn't need to use her weapon. Less because Sierra was this pacifist that attracted other bleeding hearts, but rather because she had a gun and she had the tendency to be scary.

"But yeah, about Marco," she bent down to pick up the boy's ankles once again, "we can talk about it more, but it's... messy."

Willow didn't feel bad, but a part of her wished she didn't have to do that. If she had enough supplies to last the full two weeks, she wouldn't hurt others for their things, but it wasn't the case. There just wasn't enough. If it weren't Marco and Arjen, it would have been someone else. Catherine should be happy that Willow had everything she needed, because if she didn't, she was next on the line.

"Alright, let's finish this and say a prayer so that their souls go to heaven."

"Yeah, let's finish this," Katrina said, brushing some hair behind her ears.

Now was not the time to be paranoid. They still had two people to take out for a funeral. Katrina helped the girls get the last two bodies out to the shore, laying them by the ones previously brought out. Once they were done, the four of them looked at the dead kids. It was still hard to think that these kids from school were all dead. They'd know who they all were tomorrow, and then they could understand what happened.

They all made their prayers and their statements for the deceased. Katrina, however decided to do something else. She knew Mikki probably would be turning in her figurative grave if she knew Katrina was going to sing at her funeral, but Katrina figured she and the other kids deserved something. Plus, she could sing something that probably would go over well. After all, who didn't like Annie Lennox?

"Lay down your sweet and weary head. The night is falling. You have come to journey's end. Sleep now and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling from across the distant shore," Katrina sang.

Katrina continued to sing the song. It wasn't something she normally sang, but it was such a beautiful song, how could she not perform it now. She wasn't sure if Catherine, Sierra, and Willow were the kind to appreciate it, but she had to hope they at least appreciated the gesture.

"What can you see on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea a pale moon rises. The ships have come to carry you home," she continued, feeling a bit choked up as she sang. Despite the clenching in her throat and the tears in her eyes, she kept going.

"And all will turn to silver glass. A light on the water grey ships pass into the West," Katrina finished.

Once she was done, Katrina wiped her eyes and turned back to the lighthouse. She and the others returned. Catherine went off and fell asleep. Willow merely sat on her own and read from some book. Katrina took her place in another corner of the lighthouse, near what remained of a window. It looked like the girls were content to just remain there, and Katrina wasn't ready to move on yet. It was all so exhausting, and she needed a break.
Katrina had already been awake when the announcements came on. While she had gotten some time to rest over the day, she had found it difficult to stay asleep once there was enough rain outside to wake her up. Thankfully, she still had enough of a roof over her to stay dry, but it wasn't likely she'd stay asleep in this weather. She merely munched on bread and carrot chips until the speakers came on.

The mystery of the lighthouse was finally revealed. Mikki, along with Philip, Bree, and Terra, had all gotten into a conflict that got them all killed, although Bree's sounded accidental. Mikki died taking Philip and Terra with her. Even though they had their differences, Katrina did know one thing they had in common: they would both die and be remembered as murderers.

The rest of the announcement was pretty distressing. More people were dying, and some people were getting second or third kills to their names, if Katrina remembered correctly. Demetri and Charelle were still alive, but Tyrell was as well. Katrina sighed and rubbed the back of her neck as the announcement finished. Day 3, and the nightmare wasn't any close to ending.

"Well, at least now we know what happened," Katrina said. "They all killed one another. How awful."

The dawn came and with it a new announcement of deaths, and another death of someone close to Sierra. Cammy had been Sierra's girlfriend in the past and even after their relationship ended they were still close friends, so hearing of her death was yet another blow to Sierra. The fact it was a stupid accident made it worse. The fact she apparently suffered, helplessly calling out for help before she died made it even worse. Sierra didn't really show her distraught too much, as she was already still emotionally drained from both Beryl and Dante's deaths and was running on only a few hours of sleep because she opted to stay up last night to keep watch.

It was times like this she had some weed to take the edge off., or hell, even a stiff drink would do just fine. She could just use something to distract herself from the pain she felt in her heart.

She turned her attention to the window of the ruined lighthouse, watching the rain outside pour from the sky with a grimace. Last night before she went to bed, Sierra had opted to change her clothes to be something more cool so she wouldn't feel so completely overheated during the day — a simple black sports bra and workout legging. Normally not the kind of clothes she'd wear casually outside of a workout, but given the intense heat she figured it was better to be cool and comfortable than to be modest. But then the weather decided it was going to be shitty. Her outfit wasn't exactly the most practical for rain, but given it was still hot out Sierra wasn't exactly eager to change into something more suited for it either.

Soon the announcements ended, the sound of the pompous prick's voice being replaced with the pitter patter of rain drops drumming upon any surface it could touch.

"I'd try and look on the bright side about knowing how they died, but I'd be fucking lying if I honestly believed there was a bright side to any of this." She said with a sigh, as she donned her jacket and flipped its hood over her head.

Catherine didn't know how long she'd slept for. All she knew when she woke up was that... well, she wasn't dead. That, and it was raining.

The whole thing was a blur. All she knew was that they'd done it. They'd accomplished their... well, her goal.

She spent the rest of the day just keeping to herself. She didn't really feel like talking to anyone. She simply listened as the rain fell against the roof of the lighthouse... or at least what was left of it.

At some point, she fell asleep again. And when she woke up, she knew her sleep schedule was fucked. It's a good thing that didn't really matter now.

Yeah. A good thing... right.

The announcements played, and Catherine let the names flow over her. Once again, she couldn't really bring herself to care too much about the names. At least they knew what had happened in the lighthouse. They had all more or less killed each other. That was one mystery solved.

Being stuck in this building was stifling. The only reason she hadn't left earlier was because of the rain. She was planning on splitting when the rain let up. But when the day rolled over and it didn't stop raining, Catherine had a hard choice to make.

She didn't want to go out in the rain. But she didn't want to stay.

She was too paralyzed to make a conscious choice.

So she didn't.

She hadn't even decided to leave, but her feet carried her out of the lighthouse anyway.

She didn't say anything to any of the others as she exited the building.

Maybe she was going to come back.

Even still, her feet carried her farther away.

The rain felt...

Willow didn't sleep.

She just couldn't close her eyes because the second she did, a little voice inside her head told her to open them. Instead, she read her book. It was ironic this book ended up here, but Willow enjoyed that. Both because it was a case of accidental dark humor and it was also a book she would have never read if she wasn't here. So she read the book, again.

Willow knew the killer(s) wouldn't come back to the scene of the crime simply because the guns were gone. The killer slash killers had no reason to come back to crime scene other than to taunt the dead which doesn't achieve anything here. Willow didn't mention that to her peers. A part of her wanted them to leave so she would claim this place as hers. Sierra could stay, but the "C/Kats" could choke.

Kelly was on the announcement, and Willow found that hilarious. She didn't know why she giggled internally when she heard her name, perhaps because she could have died instead of Mercy or maybe because Sierra was probably still all over her. Nobody who died really struck her as sad and tragic, but knowing the fact she had been wrong about the shootout kinda annoyed her. Good thing nobody would care since she too would die soon, but a struck to the ego always sucked.

Willow added a new person to the "avoid at all cost" and that person was Violet Schmidt because she probably had a new big gun she could use to kill people. Willow wasn't interested in getting shot. That was a boring way to die. It was on the same level of getting hit by a car. Part of her didn't quite accept that she was going to die, but she knew she wouldn't get shot to death. That simply was out of the equation.

"At least they gave something better than coleslaw."

It was Tuesdays. She was supposed to meet her therapist. Mr. Munch would probably not want to see her after this.

"I'll go back upstairs." The lighthouse was trash can that was set on fire then flooded then set on fire again, but it was better than walking outside during the rain. "If you guys need anything, just holler."

Katrina rubbed her palms together as she heard the other girls speak. Catherine wasn't sticking around, heading out without much fanfare. Sierra and Willow were offering some opinions, but not many. Sierra seemed just as bothered by the truth of the lighthouse victims as Katrina was, and Willow decided to disengage and head up to another room in the lighthouse. Katrina rested her head against the wall.

Now that it was a new day, what was she to do? She was still a wanted murderer, and she knew there were more killers wandering around the island. Yuko's sisters were still alive, and she had to guess they were on the prowl for her. Katrina always hated the idea that people didn't like her. Part of her knew it was inevitable, whether it was people who didn't like her music or who disagreed with her on a personal basis, but knowing that these two girls had every reason in the world to hate her and want her dead was worse than a nasty YouTube comment.

That's when she had a thought come to her. She slowly stood up from her spot, brushing her skirt and adjusting her denim jacket.

"Hey," she said to Sierra. "I think... I think I should go back to where I left Yuko."

Katrina pursed her lips a bit, then exhaled.

"It's just... giving the funerals to Mikki and the others yesterday made me realize something. With everything happening here, it'll be hard to give tributes to everyone. But... I took everything from Yuko, and all because I was scared and reckless."

Katrina could feel her jaw quiver. She was probably sounding really choked up to Sierra, and she hoped the girl could at least tolerate that.

"I want to do right by her," she said. "And Felix. I can't bring them back, but I can at least make sure they're properly cared for. So... I think I should go back to the village. I don't expect you or Willow to come with me, but I think I should do that, if it's the last thing I do here. What do you think?"
