Storm A-Comin'

Once a place of tranquility on the island, the park is centered around a large fountain and contains swings, a jungle gym, and see-saws, along with various other childrens' play things. The park serves as somewhat of a dharma in the chaos of SOTF, but soon enough even this tranquil region of the island will be painted red.

((continued from I'm Alive))

Dan had arrived at a playground, shortly after the morning announcements had concluded. All he'd took from them was that the dangerzones were now the mall and the residential and industrial districts. None of the names on the deathlist were familiar, except two: Okalani Shimane, that invisible girl in his homeroom class, and Zack Foreman, a kid he'd only ever talked to once at a bus stop. He didn't feel anything for them, although he felt he should have, but the bottom line was that he hadn't known them well enough to be truly impacted by the news of their death. The emo kid, Adrian, was on there as well.

The rain was really bad now, and the wind had become much more volatile since he'd departed from the dam. Every so often, lightning made its jagged path along the sky in the distance, followed closely by peels of thunder. He was in dire need of some shelter, before the thunderstorm really picked-up. He ducked under the barely-adequate roof formed by the collective platforms of the jungle gym, thoroughly soaked but glad to be out of the pouring rain.

"Whew...shit..." he sighed, withdrawing the island map from his daypack and trying to assess his situation. He located the park, which was southwest from the dam. West from that was the residential district, and south of that was the mall. Both were dangerzones. South from the park lay the school building. It really did seem like his only option. He wasn't up for spending a thunderstorm--especially one so built-up by Danya on that last announcement--in such a vulnerable place. He needed to get indoors somewhere, and it looked to him like the school was that somewhere.

Dan was hungry, and had a little bread and some crackers from his pack, washing it down with a quick swig from one of the water bottles. It sure as hell didn't hit the spot. Then he started heading south, where he could see the school building already.
