The Engine That Could

This is a large park in the center of the island, which was once a hub for festivals, events, and weddings. A gazebo with peeling paint and broken Christmas lights wrapped around it is decorated with a faded banner that says "Just Married." The grass has gone to seed. It is ugly and covered with weeds. The center fountain is filled with brown sludge. The stone statue in its center is cracked.

The Engine That Could

Andi didn't like fish, never did. The smell alone enough to chase her from a room, but here she was, full to the point of being sick with nary a crumb left of her meal, though she'd barely tasted the cold meal at all with the fervor in which she devoured it. She wasn't looking to savor it. It wasn't a five star meal or a reprise from the island, but a prize; a foot up in the competition, more energy to fill a tank that had been running on fumes.

It was survival, plain and simple.

It's what kept her going. So long as she focused on surviving, she didn't have time to think about much else, no time to feel sorry for herself or reel from the events that had landed her the prize. Slowing down wasn't an option, comfort only inviting thoughts she didn't want to face.

With that in mind, she didn't stick around very long, despite the allure of the safety 'her' dangerzone had to offer.

So she ate her food and collected her gun, packing it away with Garrett's knife and Hansel's gun and left just as quickly as she'd come. Back to where she'd agreed to meet Hansel, back to the game.

Back to the only thing that made sense anymore.
