Make A New Cult Every Day

Here is where all threads set in the past belong. This is the place to post your characters' memories, good or bad, major or insignificant. Handlers may have one active memory thread at the same time as their normal active present-day thread. Memory one-shots are always acceptable.

Bert had unwittingly (or perhaps not) placed herself at the ideal height for an affectionate and/or condescending pat on the head, depending on who it was coming from. Not Siyanda, though the thought did occur to zem. She was within arm's reach.

"Bien," ze replied thoughtlessly to Alton's question. Instead of rolling zir eyes at the show he followed it up with, ze glanced down at zir notes, idly flipping the edges of the paper up and down. With the unexpected absence of having to at least pretend to pay attention to the front of the room, there was a sudden void of anything for zem to focus on besides the standard beats of the conversation.

Ze did glance up at Alton once more, vaguely questioningly, when Bert followed up on Ariana's comment. Siyanda was neither surprised, nor did ze particularly care, that at least one person would decide to wing the presentation. That tended to go poorly, but Alton seemed to at least consider himself lucky.

Maybe there was something to that, since he'd won the lottery or something, but there was also something to the old adage that you shouldn't push your luck too far. But the presentations were pushed back, so apparently Alton's helping of luck hadn't run out yet. Ze continued toying with the paper as ze mulled that thought, half-listening to the conversation. If something interesting came up, ze would contribute; if not, calculus.
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."
