There was no doubt about it, the mall was Tanya Bonneville's "turf."

Or so Troy McCann liked to call it. The mall was where Tanya liked to hang out and - unlike Troy - actually be herself. Not that a teen girl like Tanya had a harder time fitting in than her once-nerdy counterpart. Still, there were times when she just simply stood out, though this time not so much as the last. A relatively-tamed shade of pink was her color of the day, and it showed in her outfit, which consisted of a shirt that exposed the midriff, a skirt that reached to just above her knees, topped off with a beret on her dread-braided black hair. Overall it was a look that most girls these days would liken to a "teen-meets-R&B-diva" and one that conservatives (and certain classmates) would call "pushing close to prostitution."

The thing was, it really aggravated her when she was referred to in the latter terms. She was quite aware that she had been endowed a little more than other girls were, and always tried to play it down. Even hanging out at the mall was supposed to be an "equal" experience, racial harmony notwithstanding. Unfortunately, endowments were a hard time shaking off (no pun intended) in the world of California showbiz, and she somehow figured that if she made the cut for a recent school drama, it wouldn't be because of her acting. The last few school fine arts exhibits hadn't exactly been attended well, let alone appreciated.

But that was something Tanya would have to worry about later. Now was the time for a little relaxation, and there wasn't a better way to hang out than with friends. She took out her cellphone from her handbag and checked for new messages. There hadn't been any since before she got to the mall, so she assumed that her friends were still on their way.
