The Various Downsides of Becoming "Paranoid as Balls"

The Return of Everyones Favorite Stoner/Perv!

As students move farther west from the mansion, they will discover what looks to be a small fair of some sort. It has a small red and gold Ferris wheel and an ornate carousel nearby. The rides are in poor repair, going to rust and with their once brightly paint fading and chipped.

Jay staggered back as Janet tossed the pistol into his hands. Fumbling, the pistol clattered to the floor. With a flash he was down atop it, awkwardly jabbing the clip again and again into the butt of the gun. Casting nervous glances upwards, he watched Janet engage Nick again. She was barking orders, taking command. Jay was scared, but strangely relieved. He would be floundering on the floor if he didn't have a task at hand.

Teo. Take care of Teo. Right, do that! That's what I gotta do!

"I got it I got it!" He yelled at Janet, just as a cold click signaled that yes, he had indeed got it. Looking down with horror, Jay realized that for the first time in four days his assigned weapon was indeed loaded. Loaded, and ready to kill. Gulping down a sudden lump in his throat, Jay surged upwards and began walking with purpose towards Teo. Teeth clacking in terror with every step, Jay strode towards the crossbow armed Teo, the pistol up and pointed directly at the other boys' head.

Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, what am I doing!? What the hell am I doing!?

"TEO! TEOOOOO!" He hollered, the gun shaking in his sweaty palms. The other boy wasn't listening. Another girl had appeared, shouting herself. It was getting too much, quickly becoming too much. The entire situation was chaos, and Jay felt his trigger finger tighten...

NO! CALM DOWN! JUST CALM! Get a plan Jay, those are good, stay focused, get a plan, get their attention, ATTENTION!

"CALM YOUR SHIT!" He screamed, waving the gun in the air. Jay stopped in the middle of the fairground, stomping his foot. He had to get their attention he had to be heard, and he had to get some semblance of order.

What now?! What do I do? This is fucking hopeless...

"TEO! TE- Oh fuck it! Motherfuckers! Listen to this!"

BLAM!

Jay screamed and ducked downward, the smoking pistol extended up in the air. His ears rang in a painful melody and he skipped and jittered back and forth on the spot. He had done it. Giving a loud whoop of joy, Jay righted himself and began to walk towards the students, a just little more confidence and swagger evident in his stride. Holding the smoking pistol at his side, Jay cupped his free hand around his mouth, shouting towards the disputing parties.

"SHUT THE FUUUUUUUUCK UP!"

((Sorry sorry sorry! Everyone in the thread gets little favor coupons cause I took so long Image ))

The blade cut through the air and the satisfying resistance of flesh never met his touch. The girl was on the floor now. Lucky, she had gotten lucky. She could be lucky this time, it wouldn't last.

Nick had lost sight of Teo in the commotion, Gracie as well. His world was focused on the small bubble of vision that encompassed him, Jay and the girl. Jay went somewhere away and he didn't exist anymore. Just him and the girl now. Blood rushed around his head and drowned out the noise. His fingers tingled, stuck full of invisible needles as he prepared to swing again, this time a downward blow to the girl. Suddenly, she sprang up and went at him, crashing into his torso. He didn't go down right away. He was much too solid for that, but the shock did cause him to drop his weapon. The weight of the girl wasn't enough to get him to his knees, but it caused him to stumble and his own clumsiness tangled his feet and the two of them went down in a heap.

He wasn't thinking anything. His mind was a blank but a feeling pervaded his body. Nick had to get her, he had to kill her. Why did he have to kill her? There was a reason. He was sure there was. The instinct was too rushed to provide it for him, but it assured him there was a good reason that he would remember if he killed her. When he killed her.

Nick sat up and grabbed her arm. Warm, soft, just like girls should be.

And then a shot. A frenzy of fear cleared out the previous feeling and he looked around to see what had happened. Jay. He was trying to get their attention. Without him knowing consciously what he did, his grip on her arm became loose. His hand slipped down, it was almost as if he was holding her hand. He looked at the boy with the gun, waiting.

((Terribly sorry about dragging my feet on this. Personal reasons causing Writer's Block, terrible excuse.))

Janet's tackle seemed useless at first, only succeeding in making Nick drop his weapon (it nearly struck Janet's hip, which would have been painful). Still, the man boy stumbled back, tripping over his own feet and dragging Janet down with him. Her own weapon bounced out of her grip as her head slammed into the boy's chest, sending stars across her vision. She tried to struggle away, but felt Nick's grip clench on her arm. He seemed distracted suddenly, as Janet struggled to get away.

BANG!

Janet jumped slightly, but did not dissolve into panic. She wasn't in pain, so she assumed she had not been shot. Nick, on the other hand, looked around for a moment, his grip loosening and his hand sliding to rest on Janet's. Despite the intensity of the moment, and Nick being her enemy, she still flushed red with embarrassment. Still, no need to let that slow her down. She tore her hand away, spinning and diving for Nick's dropped weapon.

That little bitch. Who did she think she was telling him that she was in control. She wasn't in control. Teo was in control. He just had to... just had to... what?

He could leap over the stall, come around one of the sides, disarm the girl. It would be pretty easy. Teo was confident he could slip around and disarm her before she could get a shot off, hell he was already right next to her. Teo took a deep breath.

"Look babe." He said, standing up slowly. He breathed in again, pacing the rising of his words to go with his footsteps, attempting to mask the sound. "I know you are scared, I'm more worried you'll do something stupid, because you haven't heard the whole story. Nick and I don't want to kill anyone, we're just being smart. Janet's a killer; you've heard it on the radio, you're siding with the wrong person, we're just trying to make sure tha..."

BANG

Jay's gun went off and Teo ducked and whirled. "Fucking hell!" Crossbow up he aimed carefully, he wasn't going to get shot in the back. Jay was waving the gun around like a madman yelling nonsensically.

Typical.

The problem was that Nick had loosened his grip on Janet and she was making a move. Teo could still run but he wasn't going to leave a teammate behind. He raised the crossbow at Janet, took careful aim and fired, yelling out.

"Oh no you don't you murderous whore!"

Carla took her chance and ran while crossbow boy was looking the other way. The wind was battering her eyes and she was blinking hard to keep herself from welling up. She saw the exit to the fairground in front of her. Between her and it there was an open space with no cover to speak of. He's busy now, but what if he's right? You did hear what the radio said right? she stopped short of freedom to catch her breath behind a coconut shy. Any minute now crossbow might remember her and take the chance to shoot her in the back as she crossed the open ground. Or Jay might shoot them all and come to finish her off. Or Janet could fight her way through everyone and come for her. Or you could stick with your gut and just get the hell out, consequences be damned. You made your choice. If he lives he'll tell everyone whose side you're on, if he doesn't kill them first. You can't make the same mistake you made this time.

She pushed herself up so he was crouched next to the balanced coconuts. It was all kicking off in the fairground. Carla didn't know if she'd made it better or worse by intervening. But Jay had a gun now so if she took her gun out of the equation then the stakes wouldn't have shifted that much. They could look after themselves. As she turned and made ready to leave she thought she could hear a voice on the wind. She sprinted across the open ground, ignoring the semi-expected pain that took hold of her.

There's nothing you or no one else can say. I know what I have to do.

It wasn't doing any good. There was chaos all around him and a bullet wasn't going to dissipate it any time soon. Hell, it had done more harm then good, now that Jay considered things. Waving his arms like a crazy person, Jay tried his best to grab the attention of those in the vicinity. He cast a worried glance over his shoulder towards Janet who was scrapping with Nick on the ground. The girl was smart, capable, far more capable then he could ever be. That didn't mean she wasn't in over her head though. And if she was in over her head, that definitely meant Jay was absolutely fucked.

This was a bad idea. This was a fucking TERRIBLE idea.

Standing in the middle of the fair ground, Jay looked around at the sound of running feet. The girl with the gun, the one who had yelled before, took off towards the exit. Another girl had arrived nearby Teo, Gracie Wainright. Jay didn't know why the girl was there, but he didn't really care. She wasn't firing a gun or making crazy noises, so she certainly wasn't his problem. Teo on the other hand?

Teo was definitely his problem.

Snarling a curse, Teo raised his freshly loaded crossbow, pointing towards the downed and fighting Nick and Janet. The other boy wasn't listening. And why should he? He had murder in his eyes, and in absolute honestly it terrified Jay more then anything. Feeling another bout of shakes running up his spine, Jay shimmied his way over trying to block Janet from Teo's line of site. If anything, he could deflect it, block it-

Jay what the fuck are you thinking it's aFUCKINGCROSSBOWOHFUC-

The arrow whizzed past Jay's head, inches from his face. Jay let out a scream, toppling backwards onto the hard pavement. His heart was pounding. It had all happened so fast, it was almost unbelievable. What had he been thinking? Had he been thinking at all?

Just because you fired a gun doesn't make you fucking invincible!

Jay opened his mouth, words dying in his throat. The world was spinning suddenly, moving unbearably slow. Jay slid backwards on the pavement, away from it all, away from Teo, away from Janet and Nick. It was all too much. The bodies, the death, all of it. Jay Holland was not built for this sort of treatment. Jay Holland was built for easy living, sprawling out on an uncomfortable couch, watching TV, eating chips, tunes blasting from his radio. It was do or die, down to the wire. The way things were going, it was going to be Teo or him, one or the other laying dead on the cold pavement, just like the others... And Jay knew without a doubt where he'd be.

FUCK IT JAY, FUCK IT ALL. CUT AND RUN!

Jay bolted. Behind him he heard further shouts, and guilt almost encompassed him. Janet was back there, Janet who he had left to fend for herself. Janet, his friend, his... more then friend?

She'd understand! Fuckin' crap, she'd do the same! I can't take this! Gotta go, gotta- gotta-

The reason didn't matter. The game had changed everything. Jay ran through the gates of the fun fair as fast as he'd ever run in his entire life. With a crash the stoner disappeared into the forest, only slowing to pick up a lost Adidas shoe snagged in a bush.

Janet got her hand around the handle of the axe and sprang up with a cry of triumph, which slipped into one of surprise as something zipped past her face. She spun in the direction it had come from to see Teo holding his crossbow on her and... Jay. Running away.

Son of a bitch.

She was out matched here. There was no way she was going to be able to fight both of them, and she doubted Teo cared enough for Nick to stop trying to kill her if she were to threaten him. Her stuff was nearby, and an exit as well. First things first- she twisted back and flung the axe in Teo's direction. She didn't wait to see how far it went, instead diving to grab her hockey stick and running for her bag. Grabbing it up haphazardly, she charged out the exit, into the forest, and away.

((Sorry if I've skipped post order or if I'm not totally in character, I just got Gracie and don't want to lose her to the danger zone while I finish reading up on all her antics.))

Gracie could only stare, frozen in place, as the events unfolded around her. From what she could see she'd found herself in the middle of a firefight. Well, at least it had been a firefight a minute ago, now all it seemed to be was a shouting match. Teo seemed to have everything under control and then his targets seemed to have decided he was too much for them and were taking off.

She whistled and approaching them cautiously, her legs finally deciding to work again. "What happened who started shooting?" Glancing around, she realized that it was once again just her and the boys. She wasn't sure exactly what was going to happen next. She'd been walking with them for a while, but that didn't make them the best of friends. Still Teo had warned her to get down back at the start of all this, so who knew?

"We should probably get out of here," she said reluctantly. It seems like all she'd done today was move around, and her feet and legs were starting to tell her about it. "I don't know about you but this doesn't seem like somewhere I want to hang around."

She glanced at the boys and began to walk backwards away from them.

Nick swallowed breathlessly, eyes darting back and forth between the various players. The warmth of the girl, her slender wrist in his large, clumsy hand, was there one second and gone the next. The girl had snapped out of the momentary calm caused by the gun shots fractions of a second faster than he had and lunged for his fallen weapon.

"-you murderous whore"

An arrow cut straight past them, missed Janet by a hair and stuck into the ground. Nick stood up as fast as his cumbersome frame would allow and this time it was him with the luck as his own weapon flew just past his shoulder. Jay had run off, leaving Janet behind and it seemed that Janet wasn't keen on staying with them on her own.

Nick watched as they disappeared. He breathed deeply; he could feel how jittery the adrenaline had made him now. Calm as he could, he walked to the booth and picked the hunga munga up.

"Yeah. Let's go," he said in response to Gracie.

"There's nothing here for us now."

Teo paused momentarily as he heard footsteps move behind him. He quickly braced himself for impact but relaxed as he realised the girl was running away.

By the time he had regained his bearings Janet was on her feet and throwing Nick's Hunga Munga at him. The throw was off, the strange shape of the weapon not lending itself to ease of use, especially when thrown and it clattered to the ground more than a few feet away. Still, it was enough of a distraction to allow Janet and Jay to escape. In a mere few seconds only the three hunters remained. Nick and Gracie slowly moved to head off and Teo quickly checked on his bolts. Two of them were still intact, lodged in to the side of the stall, however the one he had fired at Janet had simply shattered on impact with the ground. Grabbing Jay's bag, Teo hoisted it on to his shoulder.

"Well, that didn't go as planned, but at least we got something out of it. Let's get out of here."

Moving quickly but cautiously Teo headed off.
