Out Of The Darkness And Into The Light

[Private Thread]

The tunnels, as the result of the failed mining experiment on the island, are rather simple, leading into the mountain and heading out towards the mansion grounds. While the entrance from the mine is still clear, the entrance from the grounds is more overgrown with thick foliage as if the owner of the mansion wished for it to be kept as invisible as possible and prevent the local populace from trespassing. It is hard to breathe and almost impossible to see without a light source down in the mine. These tunnels stretch all throughout the Northern part of the island, allowing access at several points in the felled forest and near the beach.

Sally continued to draw back on the necklace, leaning all of her weight back to get the maximum pull.

"Oh Reiko. Didn't you know? Little Asian girls are best seen and not heard!"

She felt the unexpected blunt contact of something against her chin and when she looked back down there was nothing where once there was Reiko gasping for air. She spun on her heels, not wanting to lose track of her opponent. Just as she did, she was greeted with a surprise kick to the knee. Normally she would have been able to gracefully recover from the blow, but she felt her legs get pulled out from under her. Sally screamed at the sudden loss of her prized balance and fell face forward onto the ground.

She pushed herself up and turned her head to see what had got a hold of her. It was the girl that Reiko had stabbed earlier. Sally seethed and threw daggers with her eyes at the girl.

"I'll be happy to show you into the grave since you're an impatient little cunt," she snarled.

She kicked at the girl with all her strength. She felt as the pointed tips of her pretty shoes became stuck in sinking flesh underfoot. Sally couldn't quite make out what she had hit in her flurry of anger and blonde hair, but the girl still kept hold of her legs. She balled her fists and whined.

"Arrg, Get your filthy hands off of me!" she screamed.

Sally reached out for her bag which had fallen near hear, unzipped and pulled out the violin. She twisted her body as much as she could with the other girl still holding her and brought the violin down on her.

"Let go, let go, let go!"

She seemed almost panicked now as swung the violin down on the girl in no discernable pattern, nor with any real goal except to hit her as hard as she could. Somewhere in her flurry of beatings she heard a "crack." Whether the crack came from the violin or from something in the other girl, she couldn't know, nor did she care.

Cyrille's intervention was unexpected, but more than welcome to Reiko. She didn't understand why the injured girl had decided to do so, but it gave the small girl the chance she needed. Sally focused her attention on the other girl, leaving herself completely exposed. Reiko gripped the sai in her left hand, watching as the blonde girl brutally kicked Cyrille in the face, later bringing a violin (her weapon?) to bear, slamming it into the fingers of the hands gripping around her leg.

Reiko wasn't sure if she could bring herself to do it. With Cyrille, it had been in the heat of the moment, the adrenaline guiding her movements. This time, it would be a complete conscious decision on her part. Sally continued to attack Cyrille, who was doggedly hanging on. Her face and hands were being brutalized, and yet she was still determined to help Reiko, the girl who had probably fatally injured her.

Something about the situation forced Reiko to move into action. Cyrille was more or less helpless, and Sally was still mercilessly brutalizing her. Sai in hand, Reiko stood up momentarily before lunging at the blonde girl. With a quick scream, Reiko buried the point of the weapon into the first part of Sally's body she saw. The sai lodged itself into the girl's throat, brutally cutting off her final words.

"Let go of m-!"

Sally's last words dissolved into a bloody gurgle. To her, the first indication of anything wrong was her inability to complete her thought, then came the pain. She couldn't even crane her neck down enough to see what it was that was blocking her airway and speech; all she could see was the handle of the weapon when she lowered her eyes down to their absolute lowest point. She struggled to breath, but each attempt raked at the object lodged in her throat. It mocked her as she tried desperately to breath, speak, turn, do anything.

Sally fell backwards so that she was flat on her back. Somewhere up above her she could make out the face of Reiko, starting to slowly fade away with everything. The pain, Reiko, her anger was all slipping out from her grasp. Her hand which was up at the protruding object, feeling the thing, slipped down from her throat, down her dress. The most expensive thing in the entire world was now streaked down her front and pouring from her neck, covering her in her precious little life.

Her body began to shake of its own accord, realizing now that there was no air. The aching in her lungs overpowered the sharp sting of metal cutting into her. As everything swam in her eyes and things began to grow dim the one clear feeling that she felt beyond all others was the disappointment that sank in her chest like a rock.

But....she cheated. I was the best this time! I would have won! I was the best....

After a moment all movement stopped. As the light left Girl #119's eyes all she could think about was how she had been bested by Reiko Ishida, despite wanting it more, despite being better skilled, despite being stronger and smarter.

Again.

((Garry Villette continued from Extinguishing the Light of the Future))

'Where did it all go wrong?'

Garry was still coming to terms with what had occured since the quartet of students that he had been a part of had first arrived outside the tunnels. They had been a group, a bunch of individuals with one common goal; find Violetta Lindsberg. And then the group simply crumbled. Cyrille, acting out of impulse, went on by herself. Then Miranda suddenly decided the whole thing was a suicide mission and quit, going her own way, which left Garry and Saul to pick up the pieces and run on after Cyrille.

Except that someway or another, Saul got left behind.

Garry had been so dead set on trying to find Cyrille that it had been several minutes before he caught on that his friend hadn't been following. He attempted to backtrack, follow the path he'd taken to find the tunnel entrance, but to no avail. All it did was disorientate him more, making him lose track of where he was walking. Every tree looked exactly the same as the one next to it and fallen foliage masked the path he'd taken.

"Yeah, I would fare well in the wild," Garry muttered under his breath, wishing he'd been blessed with the tracking skills of his favourite animal. The ji was held loosely in his hand, Garry having considered using like as a hiking cane at one point, but the possibilty of accidentally impaling his foot and/or slicing his hand open didn't appeal to him, so he just held it horizontally.

And then he heard the shouts.

Garry's ears almost pricked up at hearing the screams, angry feminine screams that came from not far away. A sense of worry made itself present when he realised who could be up ahead. 'Cyrille!'

He instantly broke into a sprint, following the noises and darting between the trees, hoping that everything was going to be alright. After a while he arrived on the scene, his heart sinking when it became apparent that it wasn't.

Three girls were in front of him. One of them was lying flat on her back, and Garry's jaw dropped an inch when he saw something imbedded in her throat, blood staining the front of her dress. He regained control of his mouth and tried to speak, only managing a whisper as his brain tried to comprehend what he was seeing.

The girl, Sally Connelley, someone he'd seen working at the ice rink he so often frequented, was lying there. Dead. No longer alive. Reiko Ishida, another ice skater that he'd sometimes seen along with her twin sister, was standing over the dead girl. 'Did-did she kill her?!' he frantically thought. It just didn't seem plausible that it had happened, it couldn't have. And then lying close to Sally was... "Oh shit-CYRILLE!"

He got his voice back.

Garry immediately ran over to the downed girl and knelt down beside to check for signs of life. She was still breathing, but looked to be in an extremely bad way. Her clothes had a lot of blood on them, and when Garry looked at Cyrille's lower back, he could see a stab wound that produced vast quantities of the red stuff. 'Oh no... this isn't good at all,' he worriedly thought. "C-Cyrille, it's Garry," he spoke to the girl, then looked up towards the sky, completely ignoring Reiko. "Oh God, please don't let her die."

Reiko remained in her position, kneeling over Sally as the blonde girl struggled feebly before finally remaining still. The smaller girl's hand dropped away from the weapon, and she took a deep breath. She had done it. She had made a conscious decision to take another person's life.

The girl didn't get a chance to think about it any more before a voice cut the silence. A boy was running towards them, obviously focused on Cyrille. Reiko recognized him as Garry, whom she had seen around at the skating rink before. His presence signaled to the Asian girl that it was time for her to leave.

Reiko didn't even bother with the sai that she had used to kill Sally with. She had another one, so it wasn't a big loss. Despite the injuries that Reiko had received in her two brief confrontations, the girl managed to get to her feet. Grabbing her bags and slinging them over her shoulder, Reiko broke into a run, getting as much distance between herself and the unpleasant scene behind her.

Cyrille watched the cold eyes that were looking towards her. Those of pure hatred. Those that desired to kill. Cyrille knew that the girl she was holding onto was out for blood. She also knew what was coming next. The girl spoke to her with words of malice.

Cyrille felt the girl's legs beings pulled away from her, and then in a sudden movement they came back striking at her head. Cyrille tried lowering her head and manage to avoid receiving a high heel to the face. Instead the shoe stabbed at her head which cause blood to starting spilling out of it. Then another kick came. And another. The girl was repeatedly kicking Cyrille's head. It was painful as each blow came. Each one seemingly adding to the pain she was already feeling in her left eye and back wound.

But she held on, determined, with a new revelation. Slowly as the kicks kept coming, Cyrille was slowly understanding her grandfather's words.

"Cyrille that dog doesn't care that it's small. All it cares about is the safety of it's family. That dog would do anything to make sure they are safe. Which is why it's such a amazing animal. No matter the danger it will do anything, even die, for it's family."

She understood that her grandfather also meant her. She was realizing that his speech was more then just about the dog. It was universal. Cyrille was just like that brave little poodle. She struggled to hold on because her emotions were telling to do it. There was no logic. Just like the poodle she did what she thought was the right thing to do. So she held on with no fear for her life.

And then as if the pain couldn't get worse, a new one suddenly appeared in her left hand. The girl she was holding on to was seemed like a violin. The girl was truly panicking and was desperately attacking her with her violin. Swinging wildly and hitting wherever she could. Cyrille saw one coming towards her head. The sudden blow to her head caused Cyrille to once again bury her head into the ground. She bit her lower lip to prevent herself from screaming, while ignoring the blood coming out from the lip itself. It was nothing compared to what she was feeling from the rest of her body. Cyrille simply stood there as she absorbed blow after blow. Her arms, head and hands were becoming bruised within minutes but again Cyrille held on. Just like the little poodle, she would fight till she died. The pain was a useless reminder that she was going to die. She knew this already. She knew that if she would let go that she would have given up. She wouldn't let that happen. She was stronger. She wanted... No she truly believed in her grandfather's words that even if the little poodle was small and weak, it could still stand strong to any danger. Even after she felt the violin landing a heavy blow that caused a strange cracking noise and intense pain from her left hand, Cyrille held on. No matter the pain or the cost, she would never give up.

Then the violin stopped coming. Cyrille waited a few seconds before taking the chance to look up. She saw Reiko who had just pierced the violent girl with her weapon. Cyrille looked at the girl who struggled to breath. Cyrille didn't register it. Her head was spinning from the several kicks and bashes that had hit her. Her good eye was barely able to see things clearly. Her lower torso was still struggling in its eternal battle with the stab wound it had received. Both her arms and hands were bruised from the several violin blows that had hit her. Her left hand was particularly damaged as it seemed that her thumb and index finger had broken from the severe punishment. Overall Cyrille was a bloody mess that was struggling to stay alive. But she knew her time was up.

I guess... I should say goodbye now... Sorry Vio that... You'll never... See me... Again....

Cyrille shut her good eye as she let herself drifted into the darkness.

And then a voice called out to her. She opened her eye. Barely conscious, Cyrille turned her head slowly to find the new voice.

Garry.

Her ally had finally found her. Someone that had helped her on the island had come along. She tried smiling at her companion, but with little success. Maybe he could do her a favor. She shifted her head around to look for her beret. She wanted Violetta to have it. If she could give it to Garry then just maybe he could give it to her girlfriend. It would be her goodbye present. One that she personally could not give. She only hoped that the emotions would carry on with the gift.

Finally noticing it, Cyrille reach out with her good hand and pulled it towards her. She took a last look at it. Emotions ran through her as she held the hat. It was given to her by the wisest man she had ever known. His words laid is his hat and guided her everyday. Every action she took the beret was always on her head, as if her grandfather had gave her a constant approval of her actions.

"You'll understand this when your older."

Suddenly those words hit her. Turning her head around, she faced Garry. She lifted her hand gently as she guided his face back towards hers. She then used her good hand to put the beret on his head, albeit in a clumsy fashion seeing the stated she was in. She took a look at the boys face. Funny that Garry looked just like her grandfather when he was younger. Both seemed so strong, kind and wise.

She finally understood her grandfather's words.

The memory of the little poodle walking down while a young boy held on to a leash to control the poodle. Without the young boy the poodle would attack out of fear and a sense of duty to protect its family. Cyrille had done just the same when she attacked Reiko who had stepped on Cyrille's beret accidentally. It wasn't out of malice but fear of losing the one thing she had of her grandfather. Her family. Just as if she was a little poodle without a guide. She understood now that the little boy was the guide for the little poodle. To guide it properly towards the right actions. Just as her grandfather who had guided her, the little poodle. When she had lost the hat she had lost her guidance.

But now she understood everything. She knew what she had to do. She knew that Violetta would become a lost little poodle when she would hear the announcement of Cyrille's death. Cyrille knew she had to give Violetta a guide. Some shaggy wolf had to guide the little poodle. She knew what she had to ask Garry.

"Garry... Garry listen to me... I don't think I'll... I'll be able to repeat myself... Find Violetta... Give her my beret... Tell her that I love her... But please... Most of all... Don't let her seek revenge... It wasn't Reiko's fault... Don't hold any anger towards her... Just help Violetta... That's all..."

With that her hand began to slip from the beret. It gently went down Garry's face. Arriving at his beard she gently stroked it as her grandfather used to do when he would make a wise comment. Everything was becoming blurry. But at the last moment she noticed the beard she was stroking had turned gray. Cyrille smiled at the newcomer. In her last few seconds she was with the one she loved the most. She closed her eyes with a smile on her face, knowing what would happen next. This time she was drifting into the light.

The little poodle had found the shaggy wolf who would guide her back home.

Garry looked back down from the sky and saw Reiko sprint away, leaving him behind with the one dead girl and the one that was badly injured. Garry wanted to yell at her, he wanted to scream his lungs out for her to get back and help him.

'No, she can't help. She was the one who caused all this in the first place, she had to have been,' Garry thought, relucantly accepting the fact that Sally's death and Cyrille's injuries were indeed caused by the pint-sized Asian girl who had vanished amongst the vegetation by now.

"Look, everything... everything's going to be okay, okay?" he reassured Cyrille, but he knew the words coming out of his mouth were only forming a great big lie. Maybe with emergency surgery on the bloody back wound, maybe then there would be a chance Cyrille would pull through. But no, they were stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere and equipped with nothing more than mediocre first aid kits. There was virtually nothing he could do to save her life, no matter how much he wanted to.

His eyes caught some sudden movement coming from the girl. "C-Cyrille, don't move," Garry softly spoke, fearing that the girl's actions were going to end up making the injuries even worse. He watched her reaching for her beret, gripping her hand around the headpiece, and then she did something unexpected.

She placed the beret on his head.

"Cyrille, what are you-?" he started to ask, before Cyrille started talking to him in a pained voice that made his heart sink into his guts. He listened intently to the dying girl's instructions, taking in the information so he knew what to do. 'Find Violetta, give her the beret, tell her that Cyrille loves her and tell her not to seek revenge against Reiko. So... was it all an accident then?'

He nodded gently as she finished, understanding what needed to be done. "I will, Cyrille, I will." Garry noticed the lower half of his vision was blurring and waving; tears were forming in his eyes. Cyrille's hand gently ran down his face, stroking his beard as she smiled at him for a final time. She closed her eyes, Garry doing the same as right in front of him, Cyrille LaBlanche passed away.

"Au... au revoir, Cyrille," Garry quietly said, sniffing and wiping away the tears in his eyes. He reached up with his hand and pulled the beret off his matted black hair, gazing at it for a short while before putting it back on his head. There and then, he decided he was going to wear the beret until he found Violetta, doing it as a mark of respect for Cyrille. 'I have to find her as soon as... hold on...'

"Oh shit!"

Garry had completely overlooked one thing; he didn't have a clue what Violetta looked like. Aside from the hockey team and some people in his class, he didn't converse much, if at all with the other students in his grade. 'Maybe she'd recognise the beret if she saw me?' Garry thought. 'Yeah, that could help, and perhaps I could ask others if they've seen her, or what she looks like.' And that was when he remembered something, or rather, someone crucial. 'Saul!'

His friend was still back at the tunnels, at least when he'd last seen him, and Garry knew that it would be a lot easier to find Violetta if he had someone else to aid him. 'I need to get a move on, I hope he hasn't left the place.' Garry got up off his knees and surveyed the scene in front of him. Sally was resting just past Cyrille's body, the abandoned sai still sticking out of her throat. The idea of pulling the weapon out of Sally's neck appalled him, but he figured that if he left it there, someone else could come across the place and take it. Someone else who had murderous ambitions.

Garry knelt beside Sally's corpse and scrunched his eyes up, placing his hand around the sai's grip and pulling up hard. The sai slid out with little resistance, Garry quickly leaping away from the body and then hurriedly wiped the blood off the blade on the ground. "I don't know what happened before I got here, but neither of you deserved this," he spoke, looking up and locating a camera mounted in a nearby tree. He suddenly felt rage building up inside him, having realised that the terrorists had been watching the girls' deaths the entire time, broadcasting the events across the country. "You hear that, Mr. Danya, or whatever your damn name is?! None of us deserve this, but you of all people most definitely do!" he roared.

Glad to have vented his anger, he grabbed his bags and placed the sai inside one of them, then picked up the ji. He gave one final look at Cyrille and Sally before setting off, the beret still firmly sitting atop his head. 'Saul, Violetta, I promise I'll find you guys,' he thought.
