The noises wouldn't stop.

She just wanted it to end.

Please end.

The noises stopped again.

The noises stopped for good.

But she couldn't come out.

Not just yet.

Not if this was some sorta trick.

Some sorta trap.

It was morning by the time Katelynne dragged herself up, back out of the confines of the underside of the bed.

The place was a total mess. The window was busted, glass everywhere. The chest still thrown haphazardly on the floor. Duffel bag gone. The door wide open.

But Quinn was gone. For sure. She had to be.

Liberty!

Katelynne's heart kept beating.

And beating.

Faster.

And faster.

Until she cautiously stepped past the bedroom door, back into the living area.

No one was on the couch. No one was here, save for a trail of some sort of gray gunk leading away from the couch and out the front door.

Katelynne crept along the floor. With a step.

Step.

Step.

Step.

The front door was closed. A cloth was attached to the cross-sectional window, now shattered and broken.

It was the bandana.

But she didn't grab it. Not yet.

Instead, she pulled open the front door. Took more energy than it felt like the last few times, but maybe she was just tired.

She gasped as soon as she saw why.
