Pick Apart the Pieces of Your Heart

The storage yard is a maze of old shipping containers of various colors stacked onto each other. The containers are mostly empty now, providing many possible hiding places. They are positioned in a stable fashion, and unlikely to be easily moved, weighing nearly five thousand pounds each.

Alex smiled upon hearing Sophie's response to his question; it was comforting to have an ally on the island, and she, like him had assumed that the alliance went without saying. Looking over to Sophie, Alex noticed that she had put bandages over the scrapes; she was patched up and would be ready for walking.

"Yeah, there's no need to run; it would only attract attention." Alex remembered seeing a map inside of his duffle so he dug his hand inside again and took it out. He began looking over it when he noticed that there was a shopping center on the map. It seemed like it would be a good place to hide out and a potential spot for finding Maddie and the others.

"So, how about we go search the mall? It would have a lot of supplies and different places to hold up. It seems like a very high risk place to go though, so I'm not sure if we would find Maddie, but we might be able to find some of the people you listed there." Alex slowly stood up with the map in his hands as he waited for a response.

Sophie rubbed over the band aids again, making sure that they were sticking to her skin. Alex had taken the initiative and looked over the map. He discussed maybe going to the shopping mall and finding supplies and people.

"Yeah, that might be good," she responded. "It would make sense for people to go to the more populated areas. I'm sure we'll find someone."

Sophie stood up and picked up her bag.

"Well, I guess we should go."

Alex folded up the map and put it into his hoodie jacket. Afterwards he began walking outwards to the exit of the storage container. The sun caught him by surprise when he reached the outside of the container and he quickly raised his hands to shade his eyes.

"Damn, just a few minutes in the dark and you forget just how much the sun stings your eyes." Looking back he saw Sophie following him and he flashed her a small reassuring smile. Alex began walking in the direction of the mall and let out a hearty, "Let us be off!"

Sophie followed Alex out of the storage container and smiled at the exclamation he made. At least he was trying to make her feel better. She had to be thankful he showed concern about her. It wasn't going to be an easy ride in this game, and seeing Dave die was probably only going to be the start of it.

"Yes, let's go," she said as she followed Alex out.

She adjusted her bag around her shoulder and stepped out. It was not going to be easy, but at least she had a friend.
