Grave of a Guardian

Events and happenings began influencing who our characters are long before the SOTF ACT was even a glimmer in someone's eye. Have an interesting memory of your character's to share? Want to show the world why they are the way they are? Even if you just want to establish why they like comic books, this is the place to do it!

Toulous, France

Summer break was finally on the students of Bayview. Done her grade 11 Cycille and her mother, Josée, headed out for France as every summer to go visit her grandfathers grave. The man who took care of both of them when Cycille father left Josée to take care of there daughter before she was ever born. Both owe the man there life in a sense.

Cycille remember the memories of the old man who took care of them. She love her grandfather so much and miss him. She put her hand on her beret on her head and remember when he gave it to her on his deathbed... How important that moment was for Cycille...

Shrugging away the sad memories Cycille and her mother walk towards Francois grave. The temperature was nice today and a cool breeze gentle blew her hair. Arriving in front of his grave she lay down the flowers she was carrying in front of it.

"Bonjour grandpère... Ca-va bien? Je sais que je suis one peux en retard mais aujourd'hui j'ai apported ma blonde... Tu sais la celle que je parle de tout le temps avec toi" Cecille said in french. She was smilling and she was talking as if the old man was really there and listening... To Cecilly he was always listening.

She then turn to Violetta. Her girlfriend was invited this summer to come to France with Cycille and visit her home town and visit her grandfather grave. Cycille was happy that Vio came along... It made her feel better... Look at her grandfathers grave again she said out loud in English this time "Grandpa this is Violetta... You the one I talk to you about all the time?"

'France...This is France! I can't believe I'm here! The fun "Visit countries and study abroad!" stuff was supposed to be for college kids, yet here I am in my senior year, visiting France. And France isn't even my home country!' She still remembered the shocked expressions when she told her parents that Cyrille had invited her to France. She had been surprised herself, but felt honored to be able to meet the man that Cyrille kept mentioning as one of the guiding stars in her life. After the initial moment of surprise had worn off, however, both of her parents had agreed to let her go without much of a fuss (another big surprise) and her brother (who was visiting from graduate school) made the nice comment of "Don't do anything I wouldn't do!" He earned a kick from under the table for that one.

Rude comments aside, her family had some great advice for her (#1 being "Don't offend anyone."). She kept their wishes in her hearts and her father's digital camera in her bag as she looked outside the car's windows in amazement. For someone who lived all her life in the speck of America called St. Paul, Minnesota, seeing another country was like a dream come true. She turned to Cyrille with an eager look on her face, ready to ask what kinds of fun activities there were in her hometown, when she saw the somber look on her girlfriend's face. Her train of thought immediately got derailed and she remembered the main reason she was here.

'Oh crap, how did I forget?! I was here to visit her grandfather's grave. Stupid, stupid, stupid!' Violetta sat back in her seat, folding her hands together. Even though she wanted to take pictures and ask questions so much, she restrained herself since it seemed like that Cyrille was busy reminiscing. They arrived at the graveyard after a couple of moments, Violetta awkwardly following Cyrille.

She realized that she didn't actually have anything to say to honor the old man and she wasn't sure if she could come up with something. The whole reverent feel of the place was really throwing her off. She waited as Cyrille said something in French to the gravestone, wishing she could understand what was being said.

"Grandpa this is Violetta... You the one I talk to you about all the time?"

Violetta winced a little. She was getting a lot better at her English, but sometimes things just popped out of you. She stepped up next to Violetta with a small smile and a little wave. "Hey...Um...I'm Violetta. Violetta Lindsberg...um, I hope you're happy wherever you are..."

She cleared her throat and ran her hands through her dyed-pink hair. "Your granddaughter has been like...I don't know...like everything to me, really. You did a great job raising her...she talks about you all the time. Hah...I really don't know what to say. It's an honor meeting you, I know that...But really. Cyrille is doing fine and um...as her girlfriend, I'll do my best to keep watching over her for you."

She looked to Cyrille and gently took one of her hands and squeezed it. She just hoped she didn't make a fool of herself.

Cyrille smile at Violetta when she grab her hand. Her speech was kinda awkward but Cyrille knew deep down that Vio said it with her emotions. Look back she made a small prayer again to her grandfather but grabbing both Vio hand and looking at her. "It's ok Vio you did fine. I'm sure Grandpa happy wherever he is." Cyrille said smiling. Reaching in her pocket she pull out her mother car keys. "Mom I'm heading out with Violetta. I'm going to show her France!" She said with a cheerful smile. She knew going to France was to visit her grandfather grave but she remember something he told her on his deathbed. "To not mourn over me Cyrille... Just live your life and be happy alright? I'll watch over you I promise."

Taking her grandfathers words to the heart she knew that her Grandpa would want her to do something with Violetta when they were in France. Thinking about it Cyrille pictured her grandfather ghost coming out of the grave and yelling at them to go have fun. She giggle a bit but stop before Violetta would take note. Looking at the car again and started walking while pulling Violetta with her she then look at Violetta again and gave a evil grin. "Welcome to France Vio I'm going to show you the inside and out of my hometown" And started running off towards the car pressing the small red button that started it.

Violetta smiled slightly as Cyrille reassured her about that awkward speech she made. It felt good to hear that she did a fine job of it, especially since she had been freaking about it moments earlier. She let out a little squeak of surprise as Cyrille began dragging her to the car, her girlfriend saying it was time to tour France and her village. "Okay, okay! I'm coming and eager!"

'Well as long as she doesn't brood about the anniversary that much, I think this is gonna be fun! I wonder if she's just going to show me all around the village or take me to some specific spots. Oh, who cares. What comes will come and I know Cyrille will make it quite the experience. Oh boy, can't wait!'

She laughed as she got into the car with Cyrille, a wide smile on her face. "So lead the way, my dear!"

As Cyrille reach the car she walk around to stand on it's right side. It felt strange driving the car from the right side. She was used to the American fashion of driving from the left side. Then again it felt nice to drive the same way her people did. She grab the handle of the vehicle and pull the door open and got into the car along with Vio. She grew a smile seeing Vio excitement.

Cyrille was glad that Vio had come along. Usually she visit her hometown with her mother, come and visit her grandfather and then simply explore her original home once more while her mother would visit old friends. But this time things were different. This time she had Vio with her and now she could show to her beloved are the interesting places she has found.

Now the question was... Where to bring her? There was so much to show and there was only two weeks! Debating on it she initiated the car and took off. The drive would take about a quarter of a hour before they arrive in Toulouse. Traffic was starting to appear and Cyrille knew already why. Toulose was the fifth-largest city in France and the sights were beautiful. There were multiple museums, religious structures and so many different buildings. But the true beauty of the town was it's brick architecture. The city was known as the Ville Rose which literally means the Pink City. The reason for this was it's brick architecture was mostly all pink. Thinking about it put a smile of Cyrille face. It was her home and she loved it.

Taking a quick glance at the time she notice it was 10:27AM. Grinning she knew exactly where to go at this time.

Breakfast.

She gave a quick grin to Vio and said "How does French breakfast sound to you my love? Ever wanted to try actual French Toast in France?" Cyrille smiled at Vio. Of course she would. One think she knew about the Pink City was it's unique dishes. Along with being French of course. With this decided she had to decide where to bring her. There were dozens of restaurants to visit. Cyrille wonder about it a bit and finally decided she would just visit the closest one. Then they could visit the other ones one after another every day. So then off to Bon-Bon-Jour. It was only about a half-hour drive. Between this time she could ask Vio opinion on what she wanted to visit.

"So love... Tell me what would you want to visit in the Pink City? Toulouse (pronounce as Toloza) has just about everything you would look for, I mean it the fifth biggest city in France! There museums, restaurants, clubs and well everything really." She said with a wide smile of her face.

"That sounds great!" She clapped her hands together with a wide smile. "I've never had real French food before! Well, except for those resturants where they SAY it's French food but it most likely isn't considering...And I'm pretty certain french fries don't count as actual French food. As for where I'd like to go..."

"Hmmmm~ I dunno, actually." Violetta said with a thoughtful look on her face, a finger resting on her lips as she thought about it. The easy answer would be something like "Anywhere you take me is fine~" but that was so...cliched. And boring. And really not cool at all. Besides, who was she to take the easy way out? Definitely not Violetta Lindsberg, that's who. So then the next question would be what would the hard answer be? Obviously, if the easy answer was bad, the hard answer must be amazingly good, right? Except the problem with hard answers is that they're...hard. And after a few moments of musing, Violetta went with what her gut instinct and blurted out the first thing that came to her mind as for locations.

"Let's hit the clubs!" She said, nodding. 'Wait, going to a club right after going to a graveyard? Wow, mind, nice job pulling that home run way out of left field. Nothing like a rave to get your mind off the anniversary of your grandfather. Would you like to get smashed while you're at it? Awesome.'

"Um...if that's okay with you, of course. I mean, I'm not sure if..." She hastily tried to correct herself before lapsing into silence.
