Rowena Bautista

NPCs (non-player characters) go here. This section is for characters who will not be participating in the game, including teachers and school administration. To encourage consistency, the staff have created a number of ready-made teachers, all of whom are available for free handler use unless stated otherwise. Please link any appearances these staff make in threads by replying to their topics. For this pregame, any additional NPCs will require staff approval on a case-by-case basis. Please contact staff if you wish to create any NPCs, and note that we will generally be trying to keep their numbers slim; pregame is, first and foremost, about the students.

Rowena Bautista

Post by backslash »

Name: Rowena Bautista
Position: Moderate/Severe Disabilities Program Teacher
Gender: Female
Age: 29

Appearance: Mrs. Bautista is very short and stocky in frame, standing at 4'11" and weighing 130 pounds. She has the facial features and skin tone typical to those of Filipino descent, with dark skin and a round face with full cheeks and wide, bright eyes with dark brown irises. Her black hair is long and straight, running down to around the middle of her back. It is typically worn down but will occasionally be tied back. Her attire is plain, always dressing in jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers. Sometimes in cold weather she can be seen wearing her University of the Phillipines sweatshirt.

Biography/Personality: Mrs. Bautista was born in the Phillipines, where she lived all through her school years up to and including her undergraduate. She moved to the United States and studied for her masters degree in Education with Emphasis in Special Needs from the University of Portland in Oregon. While valuing her education and ample career opportunities in the states, Rowena found Portland to be prohibitively expensive to live in off-campus and sought to broaden her job search prior to graduation. She sent applications far and wide across the country, vowing to take the first job that came her way. After immediately doubling back on this vow by turning down a job in Jackson, Mississippi, she found an enthusiastic reply in Hamilton County Schools, who sent her to work at George Hunter High. She's been working at the school for five years and celebrated obtaining her citizenship just before her 28th birthday.

Mrs. Bautista enjoys forming a rapport with her students and has boundless patience for those she works with and teaches, but this patience only extends to her special-needs students; she can grow frustrated with general-ed students who run through the halls or carelessly walk with their heads firmly placed against their smartphones, and with teachers who don't give 100% to their curriculum. She vents these frustrations through mostly good-natured humor, bumping into inattentive students to teach them a lesson or instructing her students that she is 'prettier and smarter' than whichever teacher has earned her ire. She is very invested in George Hunter's community and well-being, but seldom gets to interact with those outside her own program due to how intensive it can be.
"Art enriches the community, Steve, no less than a pulsing fire hose, or a fireman beating down a blazing door. So what if we're drawing a nude man? So what if all we ever draw is a nude man, or the same nude man over and over in all sorts of provocative positions? Context, not content! Process, not subject! Don't be so gauche, Steve, it's beneath you."
