See You On The Road, Skag!

Public now!

Following a well-worn path from the temple that leads behind the building and the memorial garden takes you to the cliff face itself. Featuring a sheer drop to the water and rocks below and no barrier of any kind, the edge of the cliff is not one for the faint of heart. A large roughly cut wooden sign has been haphazardly hammered into the ground here but whatever was originally painted upon it has long since washed away leaving only a shadow of a single word behind.

See You On The Road, Skag!

((The Adventures of an Absolute Mad Lad and his Noble Steed continued from Holiday In Cambodia ))

"EHM-I-SEE, KAY-E-WHY;"

"EM-OH-YOU ESS-E!"

Through their travels across this entire fucking island, Marco and Arjen had found Jack, and his dead-beat brother, Schitte. Neither of them were very helpful in giving Marcy-Marc and his Funky Bunch directions on where Kelly could have possibly went. All in all, a few hours of hiking and they haven't found a single fucking clue. Shit sucks, man.

"MICKEY MOUSE!~ MICKEY MOUSE!~"

It's just been one long string of boredom, hate, and contempt. Marco was doing his best for Arjen's morale but, the guy is a fucking stick in the mud.

"EHM-I-SEE, KAY-E-WHY;"

"EM-OH-YOU ESS-E!"

"Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me?~"

They'd passed the temple a little whiles ago, and now had some uphill bullshit to hike. Marco was thankful he chose to wear shit-kickers instead of converse.

"EHM-I-SEE, KAY-E-WHY;"

"EM-OH-YOU ESS-E!"

...Anyways, this whole thing was bullshit, and he had half a brain to take his own bag back from Arjen, and tell him to figure it the fuck out, but let's be real, you know he wouldn't. Arjen had no chance on his own without a babysitter, and Marco knew he was the closest thing he’d be able to get. Without him, Arjen wouldn't last ten minutes on his own. That'd probably be on Marco's conscience if he told Arjen to fuck off, and found out the kid got shanked like fifty meters away, or picked up by some giant squirrel and eaten or something. Maybe Kelly would take him as compensation for him spending his time trying to find her so she doesn't fucking waste instead of holing up and doing something actually survival related.

"MICKEY MOUSE!~ MICKEY MOUSE!~"

Whatever... It wasn't all bad. The island was pretty nice. It was bright, colorful. They were probably somewhere in the pacific if he could make a guess, based on the architecture and the general climate. How long did it take those terrorist fucks to get them there? Did they have their own aircraft carrier or some shit they drove around. What? Were they the fucking diamond dogs or something? When he wins this, was he gonna talk to Big Boss, and find out about some sort of crazy conspiracy? Shit, all things considered, it'd probably be Senator Armstrong who'd do something like this. Marco wouldn't mind going through this shit if he could get some nanomachines out of it.

Regardless, the island was nice. Reminded him of a lot of old school war movies the way it was set out. Didn't help he was holding a Vee-Cee-Waster in his arms either. Was this an M16, or an M4? He couldn't tell to be honest, he just loaded the bitch and went on from there. Didn't matter, the whole Full Metal Jacket aesthetic was pretty cool.

As they were reaching the top of the hill- Finally!- Marco saw some faded ass sign, but he paid it no mind as he reached the peak.

"EHM-I-SEE, KAY-E-WHY;"

"EM-OH~oh, OH shit!"

Oooooh-hoo-hoo, gotta pay attention there, Marcy-Marc. That shit was steep. If he wasn't careful he'd slip down that little dip and go careening off the edge of this bitch faster than you can say, 'You win this time, gravi- "Ay Donkey, watch your step. Shit's high as shit."

Well shit. They may not have accomplished their goal of finding Kelly, but they did manage to hike from one side of the island, to the other. They managed to go across an entire island. They somehow didn't find Kelly at all, but they did traverse an entire island. That was something... They did that at least. WOW!

Marco was disappoint. He sighed.

"Alright Arjen, take five. Drop your bags and drink some water, so you don't die of a heat stroke. We'll sit here a bit, regain some energy, and go looking for Kelly later. Clearly she went somewhere else." They were going in the direction she was swimming, how'd they not catch up? They should've crossed paths but, that shit clearly didn't happen. Damn, what if Kelly got pulled into a current and dragged away. Maybe a shark ate her or something. Would that be fucked up or what?

Marco dropped his own backpack and knelt beside it, opening it up and rummaging around through it. He pulled out a bottle of water, and rummaged some more. His hand touched the aluminum bag of chippy goodness, and things were right again in the world. Smiling, he pulled out his half-eaten bag of hot Cheetos from the trip. Thank the Devil they didn't take this, or else Marco'd have to go all ISIS beheading on one of those terrorists when he won. He unrolled it, and clawed a handful into his mouth to munch on. He swallowed, then looked at Arjen.

Truth be told, Marco did feel kinda bad for him. He didn't want to be here, either. Nobody did. Yeah, Marco knew he was having a shitty day, and he knew he wasn't really helping it. Suuuure, it was kind of Arjen's fault that things were so shitty, but still, it also wasn't Arjen's fault they were on this island in the first place. Neither of the two liked each other that much, this was pretty fucking clear by now, but they kind of had to, if not for their sake, for someone else's.

He extended the bag towards the Donkey. "Yo Arj, you want any?"

Arjen was fucking exhausted.

He simply did not have the breath anymore to even attempt to hum along the Mickey Mouse Theme. Meanwhile Marco had probably used more energy on singing loudly than for his brain.

They had travelled all the way South while had to carry several bags and his sword, which became heavier with every step. And Kelly was nowhere to be found. Nor was Juliette, who simply had abandoned them. Did she search for Kelly as well? Was she dead? Was Kelly dead? Who fucking knows.

The two of them arrived the cliffside of the other part of the island. Arjen was glad to hear that he could drink and immediately threw all the baggage to the ground to search for a water bottle in one of them. Then Marco stated to abandon their plan of searching Kelly. Wonderful.

"Maybe she drowned," he inaudibly muttered. Maybe they would see her corpse at the shore. All this hiking for nothing. A waste of time. Though, Arjen had to admit that wandering increased his a mood a bit and calmed him down for quite a bit. Exercising always lead Arjen to calm down back home as well. The heavy luggage and Marco's annoying presence were a pain in the ass, though.

Marco offering his cheetos as a friendly gesture did not change the fact. Marco was a fucking narcistic psychopath asshole and nothing could convince Arjen otherwise. Arjen would have told Marco shove those Cheetos up his ass. But antagonising a guy with a freaking automatic gun, who had the license to kill by being in a death game, would not be the best choice of dealing with his partner.

"No, thanks. I'm not hungry."

Well... Cant say he didn’t try. Whatever. Being realistic, this was probably the last bag of hot Cheeto’s Marco or Arjen would ever get the chance to eat. They’d probably taste better shared, but whatever. More for Marco. He munched another handful, looking down at the ocean below.

Arjen mumble mumbled something something drowning earlier. Marco had only pieced what he heard together just now. Arjen certainly wasn’t the only one thinking it, but Marco was pretty sure that Arjen was the only one hoping for it. Marco wouldn’t comment on it though, lest he incite Don-keh’s hypocritical deathwish spasms.

This was a LOT of trouble he was going through to find her, so Kelly better appreciate the fact they went all over the island to make sure she didn’t die. If she somehow died already... well shit.

He nommed another handful, in between all this introspection and quiet awkwardness, occasionally broken by the sounds of crunchies. It was the awkwardest of silences. This was some sitting in a funeral eating quesadillas tier awkward. This was dragging a dead body into an elevator tier awkward.

Marco chewed another claw full, the two’s eye contact drifting away in other areas. This went on for another obnoxiously long five minutes. Marco reached in the bag and gra- oh never mind, this bitch empty. Marco crumpled the little crinkly bag, and yeeted it into the trail behind him, before wiping his hand off on his bag.

More awkward silence ensued. Marco took a sip of water to wash the last remnants of normal civilization cuisine down. After that, it was quiet again.

...

...

“Yup.”

Arjen hoped Marco would get a horrible thirst from eating all these cheetos. I hoped they were spoiled and that he would get diarrhea.

There was self-hatred for denying the offer to eat these cheetos which were now gone forever. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride to swallow your cheetos.

((Sierra Cook continued from Book of Bad Decisions...))

Traversing across the island, Sierra couldn't help but feel a tad disappointed that she could just stop and admire the nature that surrounded her. Being trapped within a death game she couldn't figurative or literally stop and smell the roses for long without the risk of a bullet blowing her brains out. Maybe she was being paranoid but her traveling companion didn't exactly ease her troubled mind with her expressing the willingness to murder Faith.

She questioned herself as to why she even stayed with Willow when she was obviously a danger. Was it some sort of moral obligation to try and steer Willow to a better path? To keep her from hurting people? To direct her violent impulses to more constructive ends rather than destructive like the terrorists wanted? Or perhaps what she really wanted as a violent thug she could throw to the wolves to save her own skin? After all, having help in this place was going to be necessary if she wants to make it out of here. At this point Sierra wasn't sure as to what were her motives anymore. And in retrospect, it probably wasn't the best idea to give someone like Willow that gun. However, if she wanted Willow to follow her lead she would need to offer some sort of incentive to keep her around. It was a deal with a devil in a sort of way cause Sierra couldn't predict what Willow would do. So far she hadn't tried to kill her despite now having a proper weapon in which to do so, and if the morning announcement tomorrow didn't say she killed Faith then maybe she could afford to relax a bit around Willow.

Regardless, the nature of this island was quite beautiful with its tropical flora. It at least gave Sierra vague idea of where they were geographically but nothing concrete, the fact she spotted some animals that were most certainly not native didn't help. On the way from the village she spotted a group of small antelope-like animals in a clearing, and only through their distinct repetitive calls did she recognize them as dik-diks from the distance she was at when she spotted them, she also heard the unmistakable sounds of parrots and monkeys from different regions of the world in the distance, and was pretty sure she spotted a red panda of all things napping in a tree. All of these were obviously invasive species, likely having escaped from that menagerie that the map said was on the island and their population exploded and spreading across the island as a result.

She wasn't sure how many invasive species were on this island, but it likely wasn't good for the local ecosystem. An island of this size no doubt couldn't support large enough predators to keep the populations of the invasive species in check, hell it probably couldn't support any herbivores larger than a goat. Any large animals that were being kept in the menagerie likely either died out or are struggling to survive in the face of smaller, more numerous competition. How long could this island support these animals, without any major predators, before it goes through an ecological collapse?

Still, it was regrettable to her that she couldn't draw or simply sit and enjoy the nature and the animals of this place. A practical Garden of Eden turned into a circle of Hell.

"Hell is empty, and all the devils are here." Sierra mused to herself under her breath, as she studied the map and the compass that came with her things. If she was reading it right she was pretty sure she was heading in the direction of the temple or the cliffs near it. She had no real destination in mind. Her plan at this point was to wander around until she found someone she could trust and hopefully just kick Willow to the curb because if Willow hadn't proven to be any more trustworthy.

As she passed through a patch of forest she heard something. She stopped and looked up from her map.

Was that...?

It was.

Someone was very loudly (and horribly) singing the goddamn Mickey Mouse Club song. Truly, this was Hell.

Sierra put away the map and compass, dropping into a crouch and carefully made her way towards the sound. She drew closer and closer but stopped at the forest edge, keeping herself hidden behind foliage. There she spotted two people, neither of which she could recall the names of — like most people in this damn school — one carrying multiple bags, the other with a gun.

Sierra narrowed her eyes at the two. At the one with the gun forced the other one to carrying all the bags by virtue of having the gun? Was it just some arrangement they came to? Sierra counted the number of bags they had in their possession and it was one too many. Sierra wondered how they came to possess it. There were several possibilities but the most likely was that they stole it like Willow and her stole Faith's. Maybe it was hypocritical to judge someone for stealing from another when she already did it but when she did it, it was more of a spur of the moment thing that she had not originally planned on.

She wondered briefly if she would have robbed Faith had Willow not tried to do it? Part of her wanted to say she wouldn't, but the other part — the part that hated Faith — wasn't so sure. This was a fight for survival and if it meant stealing from someone else then so be it.

But, what about those two? They probably stole that extra bag? Had to. Why else would they have it? There wasn't a third person around. What if they murdered someone for it? It was also a possibility. Both Sierra and Willow heard guns shots earlier at the village and that guy has a gun. Gun, gunshots, two guys, and an extra bag. The evidence seems to fit that they must have killed someone to get the bag or at least threatened to kill them for the bag.

So what to do? Sierra wasn't willing to kill, not yet. In self-defense sure, but she wasn't going to actively murder someone. But assuming the worst of these two, what should she do?

Right now they have the element of surprise. She and Willow were hidden and they had their guard down. It was perfect for an ambush. She could run in, tase the one with the gun before he had a chance to aim. If they took them down then they could hold on to their weapons to ensure they don't try and hurt anyone else. On the pragmatic side of things, she and Willow would have a proper gun to use to protect themselves along with three additional bags of supplies. That would allow them to sit comfortably in a place for a few days without needing to worry about running out of food or water.

This was a tough decisions. What if she was guessing this all wrong? What if she is misreading the scene here? Putting two and three together rather than two and two? And even if she wasn't, the moral question of was it right came into her head. Was it right to steal from them? Murder or no murder, was it right? She stole from Faith because Willow put her in the position with her recklessness and sociopathy that she felt obligated. But here? She wasn't sure. Did a theft from other bad people balance the karmatic scales after her theft of Faith's stuff? Did it make her even worse?

Too many questions.

Too many possibilities.

She silently mulled over her options in her head on how to handle this situation. She would need to make a call soon after she put herself in the position of leader after Willow's stunt.

"Fuck my life, seriously..."

((Willow continued here.))

There was several things that made the situation worse for Willow. First of all, she had a pretty gnarly wound that meant that any movement had the tendency to revive the pain. Alongside the heat and the humidity, Willow's shirt made it worse. The constant rubbing against her wound just made walking around frustrating and rather irritating.

Finally, she had to deal with Sierra's pace. For some reason, her partner had forgotten about her wound and she decided they would trek up up to a cliff. They passed by a temple and some type of graveyard. As they half-walked, half-climbed through the island, Willow was able to see some rice paddies and tiny figures running around. The ants probably started killing each other and she didn't quite feel right about it.

Willow just realized what she got herself into when she decided to team up with Sierra. They were too different, their morals compass didn't add up and their physical capabilities were just not a match. After finally reaching their destination, Willow was left panting and heaving. They weren't alone. Her hand wrapped around the rubber handle and then Willow looked at Sierra.

"Aw, don't say that." She put her hands on her knees, looking toward the directions of the two boys. One had a gun, one had a bunch of bags, and they both looked very lost. Everyone she had met looked lost on the island, but those two were another level. Willow removed her shirt. "I'm sure you can find someone to fuck it for you."

Willow licked her lips. They were salty. She pointed the guys then pointed Sierra's stungun then the guys again. "Do we do that or do we just leave?"

...

More dead space, interrupted by the gulp of water, followed by more silence.

...

...

“Uh-huh.”

Another drink. Another mental conversation with himself, too boring to translate into rambling nonsense.

“Yeppers... This is something else.”

Marco glanced at Arjen, following his private condescending judgement of him.

....

....

This was fucking boring.

Well, did Arjen want to converse with Marco? No, definitely no. He would rather not.

"I don't know."

But if Marco wanted to small talk? Marco would get small talk. Arjen turned around and dead-cold stared at him. "You hype for Incredibles 2?"

"What does that even me-" Sierra stopped as she turned to look at Willow, watching as she took her shirt off. Sierra narrowed her eyes, giving her companion a scrutinizing gaze. What is with this girl?! Sierra just sat there completely flabbergasted as Willow asked if they were going to rob the pair of boys. "What the fuck are you doing?"

"You know what? Fuck it. Hold the phone." Sierra said exasperated. Time to pump the brakes here. "We need to communicate ideas here, not just randomly take off our shirts then point at people like that somehow explains shit."

She turned her attention to the two guys, who were very awkwardly trying to have a conversation. Wow. What a pair of losers. If Sierra were to guess, she suspected that Willow wanted to rob these two, That was an idea Sierra was considering, but there were quite a few unanswered questions. Like, why did they have a third bag? Did they kill someone to get it? And why the hell did Willow need to take off her shirt? Was her bright idea to seduce them or something? Great plan that. Guys must be lining up to take a swing at a girl with two bloody holes in her chest.

Regardless, it ultimately came down to morals and survival. The moral thing would not rob these two and move on. The survival aspect dictated that regardless if they had done something bad, taking their supplies would ensure her own survival. If they did do something morally wrong to get that extra bag and she let them go, then that would mean they would go on to hurt more people. But if she robbed them and they didn't do anything wrong, then what did that say about her? She didn't even know these two! It wasn't like with Faith where she could at least kind of justify her actions even if she had more or less been forced into the position by her partner. She wanted more time to mull over her options but if she didn't think of something soon Willow was likely going to do something stupid.

"Fine. We're going to take their stuff." Sierra grimaced. In the end survival outweighed morals, but she hoped they at least deserved what they had coming. They likely did but doubt still ate at her. "But if you have a plan, tell me it now so I can shoot it down if it is fucking stupid."

"Alright," she removed her bandage. There wasn't any blood coming out, but the pain came back. She assumed she would need to tape it again to make sure she wouldn't open up and die after this. Right now thought, it was perfect. "Boys... are stupid." She could be wrong about the general population, but she didn't expect much from Marco. It might be a rude judgement, but for some reason, having a LARP just make you seem kinda off, or at least, easy to make you believe stuff.

"So I'm bleeding from chest," she pointed her boobs. It started leaking again. Well, she needed to hurry up. "Go out there and go 'help, I'm hurt! But my friend is more hurt in the forest, please help me!,'" she said in a high pitched voice, "and then you get the first one who walks in with the taser and I shoot slash threaten the second one with my needle gun."

Willow raised her hands above her head, shrugging. "If it goes wrong, just like... I don't know... say the friend is farther down and we book it." She smeared some blood on her face. "Just like... I might just kill them if it goes really badly, but you don't want that, right?" Willow looked toward the boys. She wondered if she was cute enough. She was at least a strong 5 without makeup so perhaps with their lowered standards, the honeytrap could work.

"Is it really dumb? Tell me."

“It looks pretty cool, yeah.”

That was a weird question, but it’s a welcome one. Marco wasn’t going to question the logistics of it, considering either of their chances to actually see it, so he’d just play along with it.

“The first one was funny as hell, I still can’t get over the ‘no capes’ scene. ...Fucking plane turbines man.”

“What about you? You excited for it?”

Was Marco for real? How can he be so optimistic? Was he this delusional?

"You're not-not getting the point."

Arjen began to shout.

"This is something we will not be able to experience anymore! We won't survive to watch it. We won't know how Games of Thrones is going to end. We will never see our family again, I will never see my family again, I will never grow up to experience having a family or kids, I will not know who the next president will be, I will not know how the new My Hero Academia season will be, I...I..."

Arjen had to calm himself down by taking some deep breaths.

Really? Fucking really? Was Arjen really baiting a question out of him just so he had the excuse to bitch some more? Waaah waaah, I’m stuck on this island and I’m going to die... Like, he thinks that he’s the only one stuck here or something, this shit was annoying, not as annoying as the pouty fucking quiet treatment, but it was still rather agitating. Holy shit Arjen, guess what? Nobody cares, okay? Nobody fucking cares!

Marco pinched his brow as Arjen went on and on, how he was never gonna get laid (as if he was getting any before this island shit) or how he’d never see the ending of his favorite animu. Get a fucking grip...

“Arjen...” “Arjen lis-“

Ugh. Marco places his rifle on top of his bag, before lifting his glasses to his forehead, and rubbing at his face and eyes in agitation. He had to find a way to fix Arjen’s shit... this dude was pathetic!

He got some flamin hot residue in his eye by accident.

Ouchies...

Marco stood up. “Arjen.” Marco straightened his hands out into a box in front of his face for emphasis. “Shut the fuck up and listen.”

How should he put this? Should he be nice or honest? “Breath in, breath out... You’re breathing yeah? Now... think of the first thing that comes in your head, don’t tell me what it is, just think. Got something? Good. Good, good, good. Now look down. See four limbs? You know I do...”

This Cheeto dust itches. Marco wiped at his eye with his untainted hand. Fucking fluorescent red death.

“Okay, so you’re breathing, you’re thinking, and you’ve got all your important bits, for the most part anyways... The terrorists replaced your pee pee with a fucking tampon, but we’ll fix that. So Arjen, lemme ask you sum’n...” Marco spoke with his best Shane impression.

“If every source says you’re alive right now, why are you pretending to be dead? Like, you got every fucking advantage going for you right now. The only thing holding you back is your shit attitude.”

His eye was really agitating him now. He scratched one more time.

“You’re stuck here. We get it. We’re all stuck here, so suck it up buttercup. Shit sucks, shouldn’t have been us, but it happened. Nothing left to do but take it without the lube.”

Marco sat back down.

“With that being said, I get it. It does suck, but at the very least, we both have a chance at getting out of this. Don’t give up.”

Sierra stared blankly at Willow, process her words and formulating a response.

"That idea is just the worst." she stated bluntly, turning her attention away from Willow and focusing it on the two boys. "Count their bags. How many do you see? More than two, right? How do you think they got that many? We're in a death game, Willow, you've gotto expect the worse here. If you decided to go through with this plan you're either walking up to someone who is going to rob you or shoot you dead."

She studied the two boys, they were pretty much making themselves vulnerable and were completely oblivious to the two of them. That was Willow and her's advantage in this situation. She thought of the avenues of approach they could take and take them down without risk to themselves. She was pretty sure she could clear the distance between her and the guy with the gun, take him by surprise while he was sitting and preoccupied and get him with the stun gun. Willow could follow up by threaten the other guy with the needle gun. Of course there were downsides to this plan, like the guy with the gun being far quicker to get himself in the a position where he could aim and shoot before she could reach him.

The safest route was to just leave them be and move on, but they might not get an opportunity like this again.

"I think I have a plan," she said, getting her stun gun ready. "I'll make a dash for the guy with the gun while he is preoccupied, jab him with the stun gun. You come out and threaten the guy with the bags with your needle gun. That might be our best bet since we have the element of surprise. Are you up for that?"

“Your idea sounds... better” she reluctantly agreed. She pointed the guy with the guy. “Though they could just shoot you the second you come out.”

Willow grabbed her cardigan from her bag and put it over her shoulders. It was getting very hot and her head started to feel dizzy. The blood loss probably didn’t help. She took the opportunity of her failed plan to change her bandages. She stuffed her bag with the gray sweater then wrapped her wound up.

Wait, wasn’t she supposed to disinfect it first? Great, she’ll get an infection and die the most boring death ever. Since the gauze was technically supposed to be sterile it should be fine? Maybe? Willow decided to redress her wound after this gig. If she came out alive, that is.

“Let me at least do a distraction,” she grabbed a rock from the ground. Seeing her hand caked with blood made her feel woozy, she lost that much and she was still running around. Humans were much harder to kill than expected. “Is that good?”

Willow put the needle gun in her back pocket and changed the rock from her right hand to her left hand. Any movements from her right side made the pain signals come back. There was no way to know the extent of the damage without proper medical help, and her mind couldn’t decide which catastrophic scenarios was the best one. She needed to avoid unnecessary injuries now, any of them could mount up and lead to Willow to be incapable to continue. If she had to die here, she was going to die fighting. Not from an infection, or an untreated injury, or exposure.

“Tell me when you’re ready.”
