Die Walküre

Day 8, midday — Private; Gore Warning

The spot with the best freely accessible view of the island, Nature's Lookout was mainly used for contemplative purposes. There are a collection of handmade benches here to provide seating for those that desire it. One notable addition to the cliff face at Nature's Lookout is the wooden platform that extends out over the cliff that people could walk out onto to feel closer to nature and commit items to the earth below.

((Sierra Cook continued from Although I'm Sad, You Won't See Me Cry))

It had been over a day since they set out in search for Tyrell and so far the search had turned up nothing. As the number of students continue to fall, so does the chance of running into people. Before there were maybe close to 200 students who came with the trip, but now as of today's announcement? Probably a little over fifty left. It was hard to say as she didn't keep track of the everyone who had fallen over the last few days.

Wouldn't be long til nearly the entire George Hunter High graduating class of 2018 would be extinct.

She tracked across the land of the island with Kat and her kinda-sorta girlfriend, Willow. They reached what was probably the highest point of the island, which allowed them to see off into the wilderness stressing all around. Still no sign of Tyrell, or Yuka. Seems like things were going back to the way things they were, where they just walked around for long stretches of time without finding anybody. She supposed she should be thankful that she had it relatively easy, but after what happened with Roxie she was a bit antsy that they might be followed, unseen, until they were ambushed by some unseen attacker.

The fact that there was the occasional corpse didn't help matters as they traveled.

The fact the particular sweet-sour scent of decay felt like it was everywhere just put her on edge. As they walked towards the Nature's Lookout, it seemed to grow worse and worse. The heat was likely making things much worse as the corpses would just be cooking under the hot jungle canopy. By this point, what part of the island didn't have corpses just laying around?

"Think we should stop for a moment?" she asked her two companions.

((Katrina Lavell continued from Although I'm Sad, You Won't See Me Cry))

"Yeah, we can."

Katrina stopped walking and looked around. They spent most of yesterday and today walking around, and had ended up at the lookout. It was quite an interesting area, but Katrina couldn't focus on it too much. There was a lot going on in her mind. The announcements had played a while ago. Catherine had died. They weren't with her for long, but she was there for the lighthouse funeral, so Katrina had to feel sad for her death. She wondered if Willow and Sierra were crushed too.

Otherwise, there were a few familiar names, both victims and killers. Tyrell and Yuka weren't in either categories, so Katrina still had her search to continue on with.

As she looked around the lookout, Katrina brushed a hand over the stitches from the other day. They had changed the bandages, but Katrina still hated the idea that she could tear open and spill out. So much of her was already laying bare on this island, she hated to see more of it exposed.

Katrina leaned against the railing, keeping the nodachi by her side.

"I know we haven't had any luck yet, but thanks for sticking with me," she said to the girls. "I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate it."

"Good."

((Willow is now here.))

She was exhausted.

It felt like she was coming down from the flu in the worse way possible. The nausea and the shaking had only gotten worse mixed with the pain in her chest. But she had kept going for both Sierra and Katrina. There was this real fear of being left behind, stuck somewhere without any protections.

Quietly, Willow slung over her bag into a bench then quickly followed it. She laid legs flat against the seat while hugging the prosthetic leg. Roxie felt heavy in her arms and it made Willow nostalgic. She wished she could have held it before all of this went down.

Michael had killed again. Catherine Zier. Willow didn't really know her, but it didn't matter. Willow had met her, and even if she was kinda of a bitch, there was something that made Willow worry. People were really starting to fall like flies and-

There were too many names for Willow to bring herself to care. As long as it wasn't her, the names and the words and its meanings didn't bother Willow. They were only data to extract and extrapolate, and Willow had better things to do than to care about the braggadocious words of a man on a PA machine.

There was too much information and not enough cares within her. She scratched her nose and then her knees.

Katrina's little impromptu speech was kinda... interesting, however. It made Willow smile, but she would have preferred if it didn't happen. It was just a reminder that Katrina's death wish was upon them and there was no way to dodge it. Unless Yuka died, then Willow would have Katrina around for some more. She kept smiling.

"That's what friends do," Willow said softly, "stick together and shit."

Willow looked back at the horizon. Rescue wasn't coming.

"I love the sight."

"Don't mention it," Sierra said, smiling. "The least we can do considering the circumstances."

She moved over close to Willow, wrapping a hand around her waist and pulled her in close. She looked off onto the horizon, seeing the natural beauty of the island stretch on. In the distance the calls of exotic birds and monkeys could be heard. She wondered what was making those calls? If she could see them then maybe she could identify them. Memories from long ago surfaced in her mind, recalling times at the zoo with her father. That all seemed so long ago, as if it happened to somebody else.

She wonder how much longer she could be like this?

"I like it too." she whispered to Willow.

She was going to probably die here on this island. But for now, maybe just helping Kat and enjoying the sights when she can was enough for now.

Katrina smiled at the affirmation that they were all friends. She had enough reason to think so, but any pleasure at this point was desired.

She looked back out over the lookout. It was a nice view. She breathed in and exhaled.

"So, while we're all just hanging out for a moment," she began.

She turned back to her friends.

"Where do you guys think we should go now? The village? Maybe one of the mansions?"

"Mansion."

Willow said without thinking.

"Because, mhm," she paused, putting a finger against her chin, "I'm sure there's a lot of beds there and..."

That was her reasoning. There wasn't much to it, really. The last eight days had been uncomfortable and painful and disgusting and she wanted a break. She tried to get one at the beach, but it didn't really work. Willow wanted a second time. A place to sit down and calm down would be better than anything else right now.

She would also kill for a warm meal but that was too on the nose to reveal to her comrades. It was one of the problems of scheming behind your allies, you never really got the opportunity to be truly honest to them, you kinda had to constantly restrain yourself and lie and it sucked.

But Willow couldn't lie about it: she enjoyed it.

There was the fake domestic approach of this whole relationship, the way she could turn her brain off for moments and not have to worry about it. It was comforting to know she wasn't alone even if she would be much happier on her own. She knew for a fact she could get used to this even if this was temporary in the grand scheme of things. Though Willow also knew that as the number went down she would probably need to put that stun gun to use.

She enjoyed juggling with those probabilities and these risks and everything in between. There was something that made her feel so alive but also so close to death, and it just made her tick closer to the unavoidable explosion.

"Yeah." She sighed. "Guess we gotta' walk again, ewwwww."

((Jonathan Meyers continued from Merry Christmas, You Suckers!))

Jonathan had not reacted well to the announcements in the morning as his one of his bandaged hands was more bloodied from punching a tree a couple of times and he had screamed and cursed for a while. Everything was feeling like a chaotic blur and he felt like he wasn't really in the correct reality anymore. He wouldn't say that his mind was completely broken down as he could still remember what he wanted to do and that he wasn't about to give up his life yet. He couldn't, he wouldn't.

You need to keep things under control, Jon. Keep a clear mind. You just need to do what you need to do and then you can continue to move forward.

He has heard some voices. Girl voices. He wasn't going to go paranoid about whether or not one of the girls was Teresa. Because he knew that it was unlikely that Teresa would be in all places or groups at once and it wasn't going to be that lucky for him to find her immedicately. It would be some kind of miracle if he had and then he could have gotta one thing off of his list. Now he knew that he would have to be cautious and more weary when he approached the group of girls and he had made sure to hide away his bike behind some bushes. He didn't want to risk any of them getting their hands on it and that he still wanted to keep it on himself for now. Maybe he would find someone else who would have some better use for it.

There you go again with trying to be positive, Jon. Stop it, stop it.

Jonathan warily walked out into the open from behind one of the trees and he was making sure that the chainsaw was pointed down at his side, to show that he was not trying to come off as hostile or threatening towards the three girls. Jonathan glanced at the three of them to see if he knew who they were and his mind was trying to fill in the blanks for him. Sierra and Willow had not been on the announcements and so they have been under the radar for as long as they could. However, Katrina.... Had killed one of the triplets - Yuko...? - and she hadn't killed since then. So it should mean that Katrina wasn't going to kill anyone else and that she has her one kill if she were to go back home after winning and surviving the whole game.

That's all this really is. A game of pawns. We are all just pawns in a messy game of entertainment....

"Hey." He said with a stoic expression on his face and he was a few steps away from them, feeling that it would be better not to get too close.

"Mansion sounds fine," she said, nodding in thought. "I do have to agree with you, Will, more walking... doesn't sound appealing, and I love a good walk. But, look on the bright side: we'll get a nice bed for the night."

Sierra smiled at Willow, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. Maybe it was wrong to think of this, but she was hoping that they wouldn't find Tyrell. It was the times like this where she was just standing around, talking to others that for a moment she could pretend that things weren't the way they are. Both Willow and Kat were pleasant enough company; friendships she hardly ever expected finding while on this godforsaken rock. Maybe they'll wander around some more, just one step behind Tyrell at all times, maybe they'll find him at the mansion next, but for now she just wanted to enjoy the view with her friends and feel normal.

Of course, that went out the way side the moment someone spoke from behind them.

She looked over their shoulder, she saw a guy standing there, chainsaw at his side.

Instinctively she pulled away from Willow and spun around, quickly fumbling with her rifle until it was in her grip proper. She didn't point it at him, but was ready to aim should the need come. She glared at him, scanning him for any hostile movements.

"What the fuck do you want?" she barked at him, her tone completely hostile towards the new arrival to the scene.

"Okay. The mansion works for me," Katrina said, flipping some stray hairs over her shoulder.

She glanced back over the lookout. She wasn't sure which direction the mansion was from there, or if they could see it from there. Either way, they at least had a general idea, and a drive to get there. If anything, the promise of a possible bed to sleep in was enough for Katrina to start hiking again.

Katrina's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a male voice. She turned around, and saw Sierra was already moving to defend the trio. Katrina clutched the nodachi tightly and moved it so both hands were on it.

The boy was Jonathan. He hadn't killed anyone, but he did have a chainsaw, which looked really frightening.

Katrina remained quiet, waiting to see what Jonathan wanted.

This was kinda great. This meant that Willow didn't need to walk again and that made her feel kinda hungry.

She wanted to eat some crackers but Roxie's ass ate them all. Or was it the bars? She didn't really bother checking. The food here was just here for calories and for other fun things, nothing about the taste or the texture. But she really, really wanted saltine crackers.

Maybe Jonathan had some, and maybe Willow could get her hands on them. As she leaned forward, she noticed the object on the ground as it dragged silons behind itself.

"Mhm..." she paused, "is that a chainsaw?"

Willow said, pointing the large object with her stun gun.

She leaned forward on the bench, putting her knees against the seat.

"That's totally a chainsaw."

Willow leaned back into her seat, pulling her knees against her chest. With two arms on her legs, she started at Jonathan. He had a nice shirt. She wanted it on her.

It would probably feel much more comfy than this sweater she found in that one dude's bag. He also had a neat little dice she kept.

"And there's totally blood on it?" She repeated, "There's totally blood on it, right?"

Willow didn't feel like checking. Instead, she dug her fingers into her cardigan.

Jonathan should have suspected that some people would be hostile towards him for having a threatening weapon on hand and he wanted to say that he wasn't going to use it. But that would be a bad lie as he had planned to use it on both Emmett and Ivy for two separate reasons and there was no point in asking the girls about those two without making things worse. The best bet was to just mention Teresa and then he would be on his way without getting into a big fight for no reason.

There is still blood on it...? I thought that I got rid of it all....

Jonathan briefly glanced down at the chainsaw and he noticed some faded out rust and slight strains on the chainsaw. Ah, he had not been able to get it all out when he had tried his best to clean it off at the lake and he found himself frowning a little as he glanced back up at Sierra and the other two girls. He shifted a bit on his feet as he moved a bit closer and he moved the chainsaw behind him a little, trying to keep calm.

"I just wanted to know.... Have any of you seen Teresa? I need to talk to her about something." He asked, looking at the weapon in Sierra's hands warily.

Sierra eyed him wearily, particularly lingering on the chainsaw. She could understand wanting protection on hand when confronting a group of people, but the lingering stains on the blade did not set a reassuring message. Sure, he hadn't been in any of the announcements, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to do anything if given the opportunity to do so.

But then he mentioned Teresa and she couldn't suppress the sneer that developed on her face.

"Yeah, we saw that slut," she said, grip tightening on her rifle. "Bitch was with Yuka when she tried to killed Kat over here. Now if you are done, get the fuck out of here."

She took a step forward, motioning with her rifle in a shooing motion. They had answered his question, that should be good enough. She wanted to get back to what she was doing with Kat and Willow instead of continuing to talk about some bitch that she sincerely hope was dead now. Maybe she'll shoot at the ground if he continued to piss her off or something.

Jonathan wanted to know about Teresa. Katrina gulped. It had only been two days since they saw Teresa, but the memory of the beach came flooding back. She didn't want to think about Roxie's death, of Yuka's fingers on the sand, any of it.

Sierra had already replied to Jonathan's question, but with quite a bit of venom. Katrina perked back up. Jonathan had a scary-ass chainsaw and was looking for someone who wanted them all dead. This was already heading for disaster, and Katrina didn't want that.

Katrina stepped forward a bit.

"Yeah, she was with Yuka and Michael. They attacked us and killed our friend Roxie. But we haven't seen them in days."

Katrina glanced over to the girls, then back to Jonathan.

"But we're not going to be trouble, and we don't want to cause any. Sorry we can't help you, but that's just where we are right now."

That was... harsh.

It was also plain stupid.

Willow wondered why Sierra would say something like to that to man with the equivalent of a bomb strapped around his neck and a chainsaw in his hands. The dude clearly had nothing to lose and she taunted him like that. It was strange.

"You know," Willow said, "...actually, I don't know."

She stayed in her seat, not moving. Sierra was doing something, and Willow wasn't sure she liked that, but she wanted to see it unfold before her. It was a gamble and it was always fun to see someone else do an all-in.

"Mhm," she was taking time away from someone. Willow ran her index finger over the button of her stun gun over and over again until her body had memorized the little indent. "We really don't want any trouble."

Jonathan almost didn't hear the other two girls as Sierra was swinging her weapon at him in such a careless manner and he almost instantly wanted to take a step backwards. But he didn't flinch even if he was paranoid of the gun and he just wanted the rifle to disappear from Sierra's hands. He could just knock it out of her hands without anyone getting hurt and then he could just relax afterwards. A little.

So they have seen her. Seems like they have had a bad experience with her. Not surprising with Teresa. Looks like I did the right thing by walking away at that time. Seems like they have a personal problem with her as well as I do.

Why wasn't he just telling them that he had a problem with Teresa as well? It would likely make Sierra's bitterness go away if he was more truthful with them and then maybe he could have a new group of allies. ...But being with allies before had resulted in getting two people dead that hadn't deserved it, one messed-up boy who died because of the island breaking him and now he was hunting down a former ally who was on a path of murder and trying to make this all pointless in the end. He couldn't admit how pissed off he was at everything and Sierra's attitude was making him think of Emmett.

She was pissing him off...

"Get that gun out of my face...!" He snapped quietly.

His hand moved swiftly as he swung the chainsaw in a clean motion as he felt it make connect with the gun and he was pushing against it with all his might. He didn't even realize that he had accidentally knocked the chainsaw on as a moment of madness was overtaking his mind in those few seconds and he felt himself swinging the chainsaw back towards himself.

The chainsaw didn't come back. It was caught on something. Not something.... Someone...

He saw the red.

Red, red, red, red, red....

Blood....

….

"W....What...?"
