What a Wicked Way to Treat the Girl That Loves You

Open

The largest building in the village is the commissary. With a large wooden sign hanging above the entrance and painted with a colorful mural showing various scenes from nature, it is the most eye-catching building as well. The interior of the commissary is a large hall laid out very simply with rows of tables and benches. There is also a separate kitchen area and storeroom present. This area appears to have been subject to a raid by the island's monkey population, as many pots and pans lie scattered in the kitchen area, while the storeroom has many overturned boxes and items knocked from shelves.

((G025 Tanisha Abbey: Start))

Tanisha rubbed her head and stirred in place. She was lying on something cold and flat, making her feel extremely stiff. She felt her glasses move up her face a little. As she lifted herself up, trying to work out the kinks in her neck, she felt something else out of place. She reached a hand for it and felt the metal band around her neck. Suddenly, both her eyes were open and darting around the room. It looked to be some kind of kitchen, and Tanisha herself was plopped on top of a work table. She could see dust, cobwebs, and tons of pans and boxes knocked all around. She took this in, and had one response:

"Fuck. I should have stayed in DC."

Tanisha twisted her legs over so she was now dangling over the edge of the table. She hopped down, making a bit of noise as she kicked over some of the pots and pans on the floor. Making loud noises like that probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but she didn't have time to think about that.

Even though her head hurt like hell, Tanisha was pretty sure of where she was. After all, who could forget being gassed and watching one of her teachers killed? That's the kind of trifling bullshit that only came with Survival of the Fittest. She had to think back to the memorial she had visited recently. It was a reminder of the terrorist group that hadn't been stopped, and sure enough, here they were. Proving they hadn't been stopped and were willing to make it so the monument would have more named added to it.

"Well, I'm certainly not going to be one of those names," Tanisha told herself.

Tanisha then noticed the two bags on the floor. She lifted one up and heard something heavy fall to the floor. Her eyes widened. She put the bag down and picked up the item.

"Oh you got to be kidding me," she said to herself as she examined the item.

She examined it carefully, trying to make sure her hands were where they were supposed to be. The evil terrorists deigned it necessary to give her a big-ass shotgun. They wanted her to use the big-dick energy that came from this shotgun to kill everyone she went to high school with. They wanted her to be a murderer.

Tanisha spat at the ground.

"Fuck that."

She noticed a camera in the corner of the room. She quickly raised her middle finger at it.

"And fuck y'all for expecting me to be a killer. Just watch me, you punk-ass bitches. I'm not going to be the girl you want me to be. Just try and push me down that route and I'll push you straight into hell."

There were way too many people here that Tanisha loved and cared about to think about going the route of cold-blooded murder. If her name was going to be on the memorial wall, it would be as a hero, not a monster. Joanne and Adele were somewhere here, and she couldn't kill her Titty Brigade sisters. People from the dance team were here, and she couldn't let them down as their captain. Tanisha was a whole lot of things (naturally, being a whole lot of woman), but she certainly wasn't going to be a murderer.

"Ok. Let's make a plan."

Tanisha set the shotgun on the table and reached down to grab the bags. She plopped them down and began to search through them. She could see the one entrance to the kitchen and made sure the bags blocked the shotgun from view. If anyone came in, she didn't want them to think that she was going to kill them because she was packing more heat than an IcyHot. She needed to figure out where she was, where the others might be, and just how she was going to ensure no one she cared about was needlessly killed.

Camellia had never cried this hard in her entire life.

G046 - CAMELLIA WALKER-GRIMSLEY: ISLAND START

There was a pervasive feeling of sheer uselessness that accompanied the feeling of emptiness that she carried inside her. Her head lay in her arms as she sat, her legs held close to her body as she curled into a ball, hiding beneath the table she'd woken up under.

Useless.

That was the only word in Cammy's mind right now, and it stung. She couldn't do anything. She couldn't kill anyone because even thinking about it horrified, and it made her head spin and made her want to throw up.

What was the alternative? Die.

And Cammy still had so much left in her life. So many things she wanted to do. So many places she wanted to go, and none of it was going to happen anymore.

She wanted to just sit here until someone came along and finished her off, but that scared her too. Faced with every possible outcome that could happen over the course of however many days she had left, Cammy shrunk even further. Nothing felt right. Nothing felt good. But then, it wasn't supposed to, right?

The tears abated momentarily, and she blinked. She hadn't looked at the bag they'd given her. Well... she had, for a few seconds, until she saw what she'd gotten as a weapon. Then she couldn't even look in that general direction again.

Utterly useless.

Camellia lifted her head slightly when she heard muffled noises coming from... not this room. The next room over?

There was someone else in the building with her. She didn't know what to do. So she simply held her breath and waited.

Tanisha had checked both of her bags. One bag was a bunch of stuff she had from the trip with her, such as extra clothing, some lemon candy she bought for the bus ride back, and the American flag cuff links she got for her dad at the Smithsonian as a gift. The other bag had the extra food, water, and supplies. She found a guide to use the gun, which was dubbed a "Sawed-Off Browning A-5 Shotgun." She'd have to make sure to find time to read that. That gun was likely the best chance she had of scaring away some of her peers, namely the ones with melee weapons or no weapons at all. She didn't want to be a threat, but the 1,000 or so names on that memorial reminded her that they all thought their peers would be pacifists too, but were sorely proven wrong. She just needed people to leave her alone so that the people she had in her group could be as safe for as long as possible.

Tanisha pulled out a map and laid it out on the prep table, taking out the compass too. From the looks of it, the island was pretty uniform in shape, with a clear side for housing and shelter and the rest for wilderness. Joanne and Adele were out here somewhere, so she'd have to figure out the best bet for where they might be. There had to be some high points that would make it easier to see. Tanisha started to wish she had her cell phone or that they had some communication method to use. It'd be easy to hit the girls up and tell them "Hey, go to the rice paddies." No, she'd have to think like her gals, and she'd have to pray she could tap into that Titty Brigade brainwave and will them to the same place.

"Okay," she told herself. "Where would they go? Where would they go?"

Tanisha stroked her chin. There had to be some possible idea of where to go.

From the storeroom of the commissary, a low growl began to sound, which worked its way up to full-blown yelling, followed by sounds of crashing and stuff falling over. A voice could be heard, unintelligible at first for all the shouting, but eventually coalescing into a clear and definitive, "SON OF A BIIIIITTTCCCHHH!" Finally, unceremoniously, the door flung open, propelled by one angry kick.

Jeff Greene had awoken.

(B062 - Island Start)

"Where are they? WHERE ARE THEY?! I'll tear them apart!" he demanded of Tanisha before punching a wall. He had two bags, one slung over each shoulder, and a clear police riot shield held by his left arm. As a result, he was channeling all his aggression through his right, pounding the wall again in sheer frustration. He'd wanted to stop them, back in that stupid briefing. When they'd shot that teacher, he'd struggled harder than anyone, trying to break out of those ropes. He didn't care that they had guns, he would have torn them in half right then and there.

But he couldn't, and here he was, playing their stupid rules on a stupid island with a bunch of stupid kids who'd all be gunning for him. He was pissed, and he was going to make sure that SOMEBODY knew about it.

"Well?!" he demanded again, and started to crowd in, trying to look at Tanisha's map. "They've got to have a base or a hideout somewhere! I'm gonna find them and rip their heads off!"

Camellia jumped when the quiet muffled noises from the other room were interrupted by a loud, sustained rage-filled shout, followed by a bang. Camellia sat there, wide-eyed, staring in the direction the noises had come from.

Whoever it was, they sounded angry. Cammy scrambled forward, grabbing the two bags she'd been given. After a few seconds of hesitation, though, she decided to not pick up the bat.

It's not like she'd ever use it, anyway.

Camellia peeked out from under the table, before squeezing between the gap between the table and the bench. She may be useless, but she wasn't dumb enough to stay next to where someone was kicking and pounding at the walls.

Her legs, however, decided not to behave. They became entangled with the bench as she made it over, causing her to fall forward, hitting her forehead on another bench in front of her.

And so Cammy laid on the ground in a fetal position, whimpering and clutching her head in pain.

((Tonya Collins, continued from Girl from the Gutter))

So, yeah, it was decided. Tonya was gonna live. She was gonna do what she had to do, shank who she had to shank, do all of that just right in order to get out of here. She had a plan, or at least something that kinda resembled one, and she was going to follow it to the letter. No sense in being stupid, being a bleeding heart just to get stabbed right in the back because you trusted someone just a little too much. This was a hell-hole, and she wasn't gonna be doing this because she wanted to, she told herself. She was only going to do it because she had to.

It was work, and work had to be completed in a clean and cool manner. No fuss, no muss. She wasn't being selfish, no, she was being the most damn selfless person on this island for doing so, because she was fighting to make sure her baby had a mom, her baby had someone who cared enough to want to make it back home for her. She continued walking, shoes on sidewalk, a woman on a mission, the most important of missions, when she came across the big-ass building.

Like, the one that seemed like it had just suddenly popped out from the ground, not because she totally didn't notice it or whatever, but yeah. It was big, with paintings of a lot of green stuff she wasn't gonna bother lookin' at, because she was not here to look at pretty shit. She could've gone to an art gallery for that shit. She could've maybe also used her map, fine, but just walking around, she found a building. See? Already doing well. It was big, too, if it didn't magically slim down the moment she went inside, meant that maybe there was stuff there. Maybe even people.

She looked down at the not-knife in her hand. If she looked close enough, she could see her face reflected in it, the spots already starting to form on her face. Greasy, greasy, greasy, but it was okay, acne wasn't gonna kill her. Whoever was inside might, but taking a deep breath, she opened the door-

And was instantly confronted with the sight of a girl all curled up like an animal, all helpless and suffering, like a small animal, all so helpless and vulnerable, just like, fine, a baby. It was pathetic coming from a pretty-much grown ass woman, yeah, but Tonya still continued to approach her, sorta-knife still in hand, but off to the side. The shanking could wait, just a bit, especially with what sounded like fucking roaring on the other side.

"What're you doin'?" She asked, insistently yet quietly crouching down just a bit to take a closer look at the girl. She was the...lesbian hippy? Hippy lesbian? Either way, it was pretty sad to see her there all huddled up, and maybe it'dve been easy just to plunge the metal right dow into her face, but something about it just made Tonya's stomach turn just a little bit, her guts make just that tiny motion to hesitate. "If y'all don't wanna get killed, get yo' ass up. Now."

That was once again given in whisper-shout, and this time, Tonya had moved her eyes from the other girl to the other room, watching to see if there were any motions, when she suddenly realized the origin of the shouting.

Jeff.

She sighed, and rolled her eyes.

Dumbass tryna get his ass killed.

Tanisha's ruminations and attempt to log on to the Titty Brigade Neural Network had been callously interrupted by the sudden arrival of the Kool-Aid Man. Or rather, Jeff Greene. Tanisha jumped in place when he burst out of the kitchen storeroom and started going aggro on whatever he could find in the kitchen. When he got up in her space with his riot shield and his protruding neck chords, Tanisha had to hold her breath. Her hand instinctively moved to the handle of the shotgun, but her gaze remained on Jeff.

She had to really think about how to deal with this guy. She knew he wasn't that well-liked back and school, and she had comfortably kept her space from him throughout the years. Considering he wasn't taking the abduction this well and was already reacting with anger and violence, she'd have to keep as calm as possible and answer him in the best ways possible. Jeff was clearly acting like an angry toddler, and Tanisha had learned early on how to deal with those at home. If he was going to act like a baby, she'd treat him like one. After all, her gun looked like it would win any argument.

"Okay, dial it back," she told Jeff. "The map's here. Take a quick gander."

Tanisha grabbed the shotgun and moved it off the table, keeping it down by her side. She stepped a few steps away, putting herself closer to the door to the mess hall, but not too far from her bags.

"I doubt they're on this island, though. I mean, would you want to be anywhere near a bunch of pissed-off teenagers with heavy duty weapons? And even more than that, would you want to be anywhere near this bunch of pissed-off teenagers with heavy duty weapons?"

Tanisha had to hope that that sort of joke was the kind Jeff liked. But even he had to know how crazy this class could get. Otherwise, she had to be a bit more amenable with this guy so he didn't try to smash her head in with that riot shield.

"But I don't know. Maybe you're better at map reading than I am and can figure it out."

Jeff leaned on the counter, listening to Tanisha and trying to take it in. She was making sense, and that just irritated him more. Of course they weren't going to put their base on the island (which apparently this was, looking at the map). Of COURSE they'd just left them there with shields and shotguns and told them to go at it. OF COURSE they were screwed beyond all recognition, forced to kill each other for the sake of some twisted asshole's enjoyment.

Of course...

His shoulders sagged and his breathing slowed down as he looked over the map, back and forth, looking at all the landmarks, trying desperately to see anything that could get them off. Nothing. Nothing but a big circle they were all trapped on. Forever.

"You're right..." he said, stepping over to the wall and leaning against it with his forehead. "Dangit, you're right."

His career was over now. Nobody was going to sign on a murderer. Everything he worked for, all the blood, sweat, and tears, the dieting, the workouts, the days and nights spent constantly practicing, constantly perfecting himself...gone. It was all gone.

"They screwed us," he growled, spinning around so he was now leaning against the wall with his back. "They screwed us all."

He wasn't going to cry. He couldn't, not now. Not when this girl had a shotgun and could just blow him away at any second. There was no easy out here, no bad guys he could just pound into the dirt. He was just Jeff Greene. And Jeff Greene had to look out for himself.

"So what now, then?" he asked, eyeing the shotgun in Tanisha's hands. He'd never hit a girl before, never wanted to, but his muscles were tensing up, and he was ready to spring. He'd always had a penchant for following the rules, seeing how close he could get without stepping over the line. Well, if survival was the new rule, then he'd just have to abide by it. He'd get off this island, one way or another, and when he did, when those bastards showed their faces again...

The door opened while she was busy being pathetic. Who was it? Was it someone friendly? Was it someone who decided to play? Was this where Cammy died?

She wasn't in any position to fight. She couldn't even see the other person through the tears in her eyes. They were walking closer. Those few seconds felt like hours to Cammy, but eventually...

A voice. It asked what she was doing. Cammy simply answered with a whisper. Then the voice told her... no, commanded to get up if she didn't want to die.

Well, Cammy didn't want to die. So, wincing through the pain, she slowly stood up, sniffing and wiping the tears from her eyes. She couldn't meet the other person's eyes. She simply looked down to the floor, where she saw that her headband had fallen underneath the table. She wanted to pick it up, but she was afraid that if she did, the other person would attack her. So she just let it rest there.

Yep. Absolutely useless.

She blinked. She blinked a lot, at the girl, who stood up, and yeah, looked like she was fucking crying, refusing to even look her in the eye. Whether she was traumatized, shocked, or just plain stupid, Tonya didn't know, but what she did now was that this was a sight. A sad, sad, sad sight. Pathetic, really. Instead of fighting to get back home, she was just gonna lay there, a lamb to the slaughter, all waiting to be gobbled up?

"You just never gonna look at me, huh?" She glared, even if it was more for effect than anything considering hippie girl didn't have the balls to go look at her. Was she just gonna stand here, moping and feeling sorry about herself, when Tonya was right here, trying to find a way for herself to make it out of here? She had so much more to lose, so much more that she had to be alive to see, and this girl, this girl, was just going to lay there and take it? Take it like a mother fucking bitch, like 'oh no, oh no, someone save me'. Next please. She was just gonna be helpless, be devoured, and it was all gonna be her fault, cause she wasn't gonna do nothing, was just gonna stand there and let it happen to her.

"Look at me." Tonya didn't care about volume anymore, didn't care about the fact that maybe she was shouting without meaning to because this girl was just that little, just that small. It wouldn't matter. Well, fine, it sorta would, because Jeff was in the next room over and that could not mean great things if he came out all angry-like, but the shouting from over there quieted. Maybe he calmed down.

Maybe he got killed.

"Could you listen, for one goddamn second? Something's going on over there," She used the weird knife to point at what was most definitely a kitchen, because a girl recognized that if a girl's family owned a restaurant for over a decade. "And that something's gonna happen to you if you continue standin' 'round like that."

There was iron in her hand, and there was iron in her eyes. Tonya was not here to hold the hand if some weak-ass lady and teach her to walk on her own, oh no, but that lady, the one just standing at the floor as if she just wanted it to swallow her up? She was as good as dead if she continued like this, and that was just such a weak bitch way to go out. Couldn't stand it, couldn't stand looking at her like that, because it was just so-

"Gotta do somethin', mmkay?" Her words were soft, but her voice was as sharp as knives.

Tanisha watched as all the anger within Jeff dissipated out of him. Turns out she said the right things to him, as he finally got the message that the terrorists weren't on the island itself. Tanisha almost felt bad for him with how he seemed so disappointed to know that he couldn't just run up and murder the shit out of the people who kidnapped them. Granted, if that was an option, Tanisha could see the senior class putting their differences aside to storm the terrorist base. But as long as they had the explosive collars around their necks, it was clear the class was a house divided, so they had to fear one another more than the terrorists who put them there.

Jeff, now without anything to be mad about, asked about what to do next. Tanisha walked back over and set her gun down, folding the map up.

"Well, I've got friends who I sure as hell am not going to let die here as long as I'm carrying this big boomstick around," she told him.

She put the map back into her bag.

"I'm probably going to check higher ground, see if that helps me figure out where Joanne Coleman and Adele Jones might be. If you're interested, we can go together and-"

Before Tanisha could finish her proposal, she heard shouting from out in the mess hall. She quickly grabbed the shotgun and creeped over to the door, slightly pushing it open so she could see out into the hall. She couldn't tell who they were, but she could vaguely make out a girl aggressively holding a blade out to someone, who she thought was also a girl.

"Shit," Tanisha said in a hushed whisper to Jeff. "I think someone is out there trying to kill or rob some defenseless girl."

She glanced back to Jeff.

"We gotta do something."

Tanisha wasn't going to kill him. Jeff could live with that, though he immediately winced at the accidental pun. She seemed to be on a quest to reunite with her friends. He wasn't sure how she was going to manage that, since they'd apparently been seeded over the island in completely random locations, but her idea of seeking higher ground wasn't a bad one, good enough for him to steal it for himself so he could get a lay of the land.

"Yeah, cool. Maybe we can also find a source of-"

but then Tanisha cut him off. She'd peeked out the door and someone was apparently pulling a weapon on someone else. Typical. He'd checked his watch when he'd woken up. Probably the only reason they let him keep it was because it was analog instead of digital. But the point was that it was only 9 AM, first day, and already folks were going at one another.

"Right," he whispered. "Step back, I've got this."

Once he was sure that Tanisha had given him enough space, he checked to make sure that the strap on his shield was nice and tight. He was going in fast and hard, and there'd be no time for correcting his mistake. With the door slightly ajar, he reared back, gritted his teeth, and delivered a flying kick through the door.

It smashed hard against the adjoining wall, still staying on its hinges, for what that was worth. He charged straight on through with a battle cry, his shield in front of him, as he...immediately froze in his tracks. The shouting petered out, fading into an expression of confusion. Dangit Tanisha, he mused, you hadn't given all the facts. That wasn't just some girl holding up some other girl.

This was the girl he'd taken to the prom.

"Tonya," he said blankly, holding up his shield but otherwise not advancing, "what the heck are you doing?"

She couldn't. Cammy just couldn't bring herself to look up. She continued to stare downward, at the headband now lying under the table. The girl (it was definitely a girl) kept hissing at her. She couldn't tell if she was trying to help her, but her tone definitely didn't sound like it.

She kept saying more things. There was something happening in the other room. Well, of course something was happening in the other room. She'd heard it for herself, after all. That's what caused this bump on her head, after all. Well, indirectly.

Needed to do something?

"But-"

She screamed as the door burst open and a large boy made a dynamic entry into the room. Camellia fell backward, landing on her butt.

She was pretty sure she peed herself a little bit.

Someone was kicking open the door. Someone was tryna kick open the door when she was still trying to talk to this bish, get her to calm down, and Tonya really thought she was getting through. At least, getting it through the girl's brain to run the fuck away, but that was an alright instinct, just something to get out of her mind, when she heard the loud bang and it was all like:

"What the fu-"

She near-instantly turned her head in the direction of the entrant, door banging open like:

"Jeff?" Tonya held up the stabbing thing, not to act, but as the shittiest shield ever in case he moved, as he had the balls to go and start shouting at her like some kinda maniac. Not very gentleman-like, nah nah nah nah. "I was tryna get her," She pointed with the almost-knife at the girl on the ground, who looked just as pitiable as ever. "To stop freaking out and shit!"

Okay, yeah, maybe she was a bit surprised, and more than a bit angry, but was she doing anything wrong? Nope. She was tryna get this girl to live for herself, trying to motivate her into some kind of action, and Jeff was acting as if she was the bad guy here? She was just trying to like, survive, that was what was up, and she was raising her voice, sure, but she was only raising it to make sure that she got heard, so that she would not be silenced because there was no way in hell she was going to allow herself to be silenced.

Tonya stepped back, just a little bit, just enough to keep the girl in between her and Jeff in case he got up to some weird shit. She tried, okay? If she was still just gonna lay there, was on her, not Tonya. She had better things to do, like not die. Jeff was good, they had a good chat, but he was big. He was strong. He had a short fucking fuse, and she wasn't gonna be around that, not if she could be literally anywhere else.

"Here's the thing," She started, still holding up the machete but voice kept on a tight, tight leash. "If you ain't gonna do nothing, I won't do nothing. Okay?"

Jeff ordered Tanisha to step back, and she quickly scooted to the side. He clearly knew what he was doing here, and she wasn't about to argue with that. She had already gotten a good idea of how he could act when he was angry, and seeing as he was now directing it at a potential murderer, Tanisha wasn't going to do anything to divert it back to her.

She let out a bit of a groan when he did burst through and charged out like he was landing at Normandy. Tanisha gingerly stepped out as well, adjusting the shotgun so it was now in both hands. Jeff stopped because he recognized the aggressive girl, and Tanisha stopped a few feet behind him when she saw too.

Tanisha knew of Tonya. The girl had a restaurant and a baby, so Tanisha could have respect for a sister who was trying to make it in the world with all kinds of weight on her shoulders. However, Tanisha couldn't respect her for being loud and aggressive, especially since the other girl seemed to be of no actual threat. Tanisha knew Camellia was some hippy girl, and she was clearly gonna follow the hippy doctrine of peace and non-violence since she seemed to be scared shitless.

"Quite a lot to say you're gonna do nothin' when you're waving a machete around and calling it a pacifier," Tanisha said, keeping the shotgun pointed towards Tonya. "Just because this shotgun's giving me some of that big dick energy doesn't mean I'm gonna start flailing it around for everyone to marvel at. So how about we just make it clear what we're actually doing here before we do anything to keep us from going home?"

Tanisha looked at the girl on the floor.

"Hey, Cam, is this woman threatening you?"
