"Oooh! I'm exhausted."

Katrina fell backwards onto one of the beds in her room, the bags on her arms flopping to her side. She let out a bit of a exhale as she hit the fluffy blanket and laid her head back to look up at the ceiling. It had been the first full day of sightseeing since they arrived in DC, and Katrina had realized how much it was going to take out of her. She herself had spent the day hanging around the National Mall. Of course she made sure to get pictures in front of all the landmarks, either as selfies or asking passersby for a moment of their time. That allowed her to see Capitol Hill, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the reflecting pools, and the WWII memorial.

She had almost given up after spending hours outside when she realized the Mall led her to the Kennedy Center, which ended up being the best stop on her day out. Seeing one of the most famous performance venues in the country was a must stop, so she hurried her toned legs to the building. She made sure to get on a tour and spend plenty of time at the gift shop. Now she was home with plenty of musical theater memorabilia and clothing that required a few gift bags.

"I don't know about you ladies," Katrina said, raising one of her legs up so she could grab her boot, "but I'm really feeling the full effects of travel."

Katrina reached for the zipper and began to unzip the boot. It wasn't the best walking shoe, but it was at least a flat which helped since the paths around the Mall weren't paved. She also made sure she had a lighter jacket and loose tank top to wear as she made her way around. All in all, she had made the most of her first day.

Katrina had gotten one boot off and threw it onto the floor.

"So, anyone have as fulfilling a day as I did?"

((Sierra Cook continued from Every Vow You Break, Every Smile You Fake...))

Sierra sat on the edge of her bed in the room, TV remote in hand as she idly looked through the list of movies that we on-demand from the hotel. So far there wasn't anything really jumping out at her as something she needed to see at this very moment, but it was more or less to satisfy her own curiosity of what she could watch if she needed to pass the time.

"Yeah, it was pretty alright." She said in a emotionless tone, not taking her eyes off the screen.

In truth that was an understatement, this day had been one full of activity and she has enjoyed practically every second of it. Like everyone else Sierra had partaking in going to the National Mall and sightseeing landmarks that made their home in the capital of her country. She even took the time to visit some of the beautiful gardens present within DC. Maybe to some a garden wouldn't be a prime destination on a trip like this, but to Sierra they were definitely a highlight. Sierra was always a child of nature, and even if it was maintained by human hands it was still beautiful and relaxing to surround herself with it. Maybe tomorrow she'll try to go to the National Zoo and see some of the animals they had there, maybe sketch a couple if there is some time.

While she was out and about the city she managed to get a hold of a new stuffed animal to her collection — a little red, white, and blue teddy bear with the words "I ♥ DC" sown onto it. It was just so cute that she just had to have it! Not to mention this was her first out of state trip pretty much ever! She had to commemorate the occasion by getting it as a souvenir, and that would be her excuse if anyone asks why she has the cute bear. Failing that she'll say it was for someone else. She looked over her shoulder to the little plush toy that sat on the pillow of her bed, its little black eyes seemingly looking back at her. She pondered for a moment what to call the little guy, but returned her attention back to the TV screen. It was something she could think on later. After all, she was on vacation and should just relax.

((Paloma Salt's trip starts here))

"I hope so." So declared Paloma, laying on her stomach with her phone, examining some of the pictures she'd nabbed today, both in and out of the gallery. Her sock-adorned feet bobbed in the air over her back as she scrolled through her gallery. She'd need to download a bunch of these so she didn't run out of room. They'd be here for a while, after all. At the sound of the thud, she looked over at the boot now lying on the floor. "I also hope you wiped your feet."

A little sassy, maybe, but Paloma's tone was cheery. She'd spent the day at the Renwick Gallery, a part of the Smithsonian Art Museum focusing on contemporary art and artists. It had been really cool, honestly. Paloma didn't get people being pretentious about modern art. As if they had more interesting thoughts in their heads than whatever ideas were on display. Probably too busy complaining about avocado toast or whatever to actually contribute anything noteworthy to the world.

Anyway, she'd had fun, and that was important. Being underage had made getting permission for the trip and all a hassle, so she was glad it was worth the effort. She planned to see a few museums, probably including the main Smithsonian building, and also eat out a lot. She'd specifically looked up some good restaurants all over the area to try, and she had made a big deal of it on her site that she'd be reviewing a bunch of brand-new places. Her followers had been receptive, and who was she to deny them?

For the moment, though, Paloma was content to be back at the hotel room. After a day mostly on her feet, she was just glad to have some time to rest. Even when she was doing it with this 'company'. She hadn't had much in mind for roomies, and what she got was a mixed bag. She'd decided that her temporary living mates were The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Ariana was the good, since they were friends and she liked Ariana's attitude. Katrina was the bad because she was a loud and vapid freak. Sierra was the ugly because, while Paloma didn't hate her necessarily, she knew her (and herself) well enough that any interaction between them was a potential powder-keg. Paloma was definitely not going to say anything about that gaudy teddy bear, for example.

It could be worse though. Could be fucking Lori. One of them wouldn't have survived the night. They had days left together, so she needed to at least try to be nice, even if it was to people she didn't like. That's how people network, right? Not a bad skill to practice.

"Yeah, I saw some really cool stuff at Renwick. You heard of it? It's part of the Smithsonian, they have modern art there, it was fascinating. I got pictures if anyone wants to see." Nobody wanted to look at her pictures. Well, maybe. Paloma could at least hope her roommates had some taste. Then again, if it meant she had to return the favor and look at Katrina's pictures of whatever outdated pop stars she'd been ogling all day, maybe it wouldn't be worth it.

In the eyes of Ariana Moretti, it was a goddamn miracle that a day had passed and all four of them were still standing. More than that - it actually seemed like they'd gotten along. Of course, the trip was still young, and when four potentially combustible personalities were put in a room together, all it took was one spark to send everything ablaze.

For now though, Ariana was more than happy to keep her own electricity down, because hot DAMN, her feet felt like they were about to fall off.

((ARIANA MORETTI TRIP START))

"Note to self," Ariana tossed a remark over her shoulder, particularly not to herself, "buy better shoes tomorrow. Fuuuuuck." She drew the last syllable out as she sat on the ground, back straight up against the wall, one shoe off while rubbing the bottom of her foot. It wasn't the shoes that were at fault, of course. In fact, her shoes were well-worn enough that walking around in them was rather comfortable.

No, it was more the fact that they'd been walking for almost eight straight hours. Ariana hated to admit, but she hadn't realized that the Smithsonian wasn't just one museum. Rather, it was ten of them. She'd bummed around with her roommates a bit; more for a general lack of Ross than anything, but she'd spent the vast majority of time in the natural history museum and that hadn't been the first choice of any of the other girls. That had been fine though, as she'd ended up having a particularly interesting conversation about American history with Connor Lorenzen of all people. The quarterback hadn't been one she'd have gathered would give history much of a care, but he'd surprised her. From there, she'd spent most of the day wandering the museum, reading about the varying exhibits and supplementing them with information from her phone. Sometimes she'd run into classmates, other times she'd be alone.

It had been an enjoyable day overall, truly. But it was still a little difficult to really have as good a time as she wanted to. Not when the one person who'd been more excited about the trip than almost anyone wasn't there to enjoy it. At Paloma's offer of photos, Ariana didn't move to get up, but offered her own tidbit.

"Pretty cool! I spent a lot of the day learning about how ass-backwards we were as a country for a long time." She smirked. "Actually some pretty neat stuff in there. Did you know there's an entire exhibit on lunchboxes? We as a society have been fascinated with some pretty mundane shit, but the lunchbox is evidently a pillar of American history."

She had taken a ton of photos as well, but most of them were for Ross' benefit. He'd only texted her back a bit that day, evidently still hopped up on all kinds of painkillers and trying to sleep as much as he could. Ariana didn't intend to share them; not with these girls, anyway. It wasn't that she didn't like them or anything. Paloma was good people, and Sierra may have been a bit of a ho, if the rumblings around the school had any merit, but to each their own. Ariana wasn't going to judge her on who or how often she decided to sleep around.

Well, okay - she would a little, but she'd always keep it to herself.

Katrina wasn't all that bad either, but all three (four, including herself) girls were strong personalities and one small disagreement could easily escalate into something more. But for now... everything was cool. Ariana rubbed the bottom of her foot some more, feeling the relief almost immediately.

With luck, everything would stay like that.

"Yeah, I got a cloth, don't worry," Katrina said in response to Paloma's comment.

Katrina grabbed a washcloth she had grabbed from the bathroom when she walked in and bent her leg in. She began to wipe her leg down with the cloth. Yeah, she definitely sweated a bit in those boots, so she couldn't blame Paloma for making a comment about it. She laid the cloth down so she could get the other boot off, letting it thump to the floor with great aplomb.

She flicked her legs a bit and hoisted herself back up. It had been a good day, so she was down for a quick bit of girl bonding before she got to hit the pool and gym.

"Yeah, show me the pics," she said to Paloma, getting up from the bed and moving over to the other girl. "I might have to check it out if it's really cool stuff."

Sierra paused in her activity of looking through the list of movies, her gaze looking over to Paloma. So what if she had a few pictures of stuff at a museum, they could all just go out an see it tomorrow if they were just dying to know what is at Renwick. To Sierra at least, showing people pictures of things you've taken on a trip was really only appropriate after the trip, not during. Why look at someone's crummy photos when you can go experience it yourself? Some exceptions could be made, like if you were at a zoo because animals are unpredictable enough that you could probably catch a unique moment every now and then.

But that may just be Sierra's own cynicism talking and she wasn't about to voice it. Paloma may seem like kind of a bitch, but Sierra wasn't about to make an enemy out of her while she is stuck rooming with her for the next few days. Could be worse though. After all there was no shortages of cunts going to GHHS, like that bitch Faith or that bimbo Ivy, and she could have ended up with anyone of them.

Sighing, Sierra turned off the TV and stood up from her bed. Still, it was better to play nice while they were on this trip and save herself the headache of spoiling her mood with stupid bullshit. Be nice, Sierra. She crossed the distance between her bed and where Paloma was, taking a spot next to Katrina.

"Alright, let's see 'em." She said, folding her arms under her chest as she looked at Paloma with an expecting gaze.

Paloma was admittedly surprised they took her up on it, but it wasn't necessarily a bad surprise.

She set her phone out in front of the gathering of girls, carefully scrolling through some of the shots she thought were best-a high bar, admittedly. "Yeah, they were doing a Burning Man thing, I guess." It was an exhibition called 'No Spectators', and a lot of the pieces were interactive, or were intended to involve the viewers more than just staring at a painting.

"So Burning Man is a like, sex and drugs thing but also kind of a movement? It's like, spiritual or philosophical or something. Like, radical inclusion, accepting anyone no matter what, if that's your thing." Paloma paused on one picture, a large chalkboard covered in scribbled half-statements, all conclusions to the sentence 'Before I die I want to'.

In one corner, in dark blue font, she'd written 'Host an exhibit here'. It was a little cheeky, but it wasn't untrue. Paloma didn't have a lot of ambitions, but she was young, and had plenty of time to turn her natural talent into real mastery. "Yeah, you could write something here, it's like a performance piece where you're the performer. Everyone dies, so it asks you to think about dying and your own mortality and what matters in the meantime."

Hmm, maybe a little too grim for these girls. She scrolled to the next one, showing the bright, golden interior of a replica temple from a Burning Man. "They burn all the stuff at the end normally, that's why it's called Burning Man. So this is the kind of thing they build in the desert for those."

Paloma went quiet as she kept scrolling through the pictures, waiting maybe 10 seconds on each and going back if someone asked. Now that they had the framework, explaining the art would just ruin it.

From the floor, Ariana's eyebrows went up. "Burning Man, isn't that the hippy-dipp-" Her line of questioning was cut off as Paloma continued to explain herself, proving Ariana to be correct in her assumption.

Right, she remembered a little too late, Paloma was definitely into the artsy-fartsy stuff. Oh well, no matter. Ariana figured she wouldn't take any offense to the remark. Besides, she had a surprisingly captive audience for her photos, what with Katrina and Sierra both evidently interested in the sights of the gallery. It wasn't that Ariana wasn't, but getting up would mean jumping back onto her sore feet, and that just wasn't a sacrifice she was willing to make.

"Dying, huh?" Ariana couldn't help but crack wise, her own mortality hadn't necessarily been something that she'd readily considered all that often. Considering that her desired career path brought her towards law enforcement, there was a distinct possibility that she'd be voluntarily putting herself in life or death situations nearly every single day. It was more comfortable; a lot easier for Ariana to just shrug the concept of dying off. Put it off for another day. She was reminded of a line from some fantasy television show that Ross had tried desperately to get her into. She'd watched the first season with him, but like many science-fiction and fantasy shows, it hadn't held her interest. Some of it had stuck with her, though.

"What is it we say to Death? Not today! Or tomorrow, or next week, for that matter." Ariana flashed a toothy grin. "Actually, not sure about you ladies, but I plan to live forever."

Allowing her right foot to fall to the ground, she raised her left foot to sit on her knee and started rubbing the kinks out of that one as well.

Katrina looked over as Paloma showed them all the photos from the gallery. Katrina had vaguely heard of Burning Man before, but had no idea it was this large and creative. She looked at the photos with such intrigue that she started to imagine herself out in the desert in one of those cool spiked gowns. It'd be a cool concept shoot, if anything.

Ariana had noticed the "Before I die I want to..." wall and made some crack about never dying. Katrina raised an eyebrow, but smiled.

"That'd be nice," Katrina said. "I hope to live forever through my craft. I guess I'd write something like 'win a Grammy' or 'earn a Platinum Record' on that wall. I know it's hard, but I think I could do it."

"What about you guys?" she asked. "What do you guys want to do before you die? Or, if you're gonna die, in Ariana's case."

Sierra nodded as she looked over the photos, occasionally muttering "cool" or making some noise of acknowledgement as Paloma spoke. Frankly her thoughts about showing people photos of things they could readily see still stood, but she would be lying if she said she wasn't interesting in checking out the museum. Probably better in person than Paloma's photos. Burning Man was also something she wanted to experience at some point. It just seemed like her kind of scene if nothing else. That was definitely gonna be better than these pictures.

Sierra snorted at Ariana's claim of 'living forever' when they saw the exhibit of a large chalk board with the words 'Before I die I want to...' While she was not likely being serious, that was still the sort of thinking that gets you killed. How many people have died thinking they weren't going to be next? Of course, there was no waiting line for death so "next" was a pretty poor descriptor. After all, anyone can be killed by some Snapchating douchebag any minute while walking down the street or be the unlucky son of a bitch to win the shit lottery of ending up on that show for sadistic retards, Survival of the Fittest. Ariana was tempting fate if anything.

Everyone dies eventually, all that matters is what you make of it, she felt.

"Gold medal at the Olympics." Sierra said with a shrug. Might as well join the discussion of what they would want to do before they die. "I think that is pretty doable."

Paloma's roommate's collective reaction was another surprise, and like just a moment ago wasn't an unpleasant one. Ambition was cool, she could get behind that. Having goals was important to like, actually being a worthwhile person, not a big slug that laid on a couch watching HBO or something. Paloma hadn't worked out all the kinks in her goals or how she was going to reach them, but she was young. Knowing what she wanted-recognition for artistic achievement- was the most important part. The rest was just bookkeeping.

"Yeah, good luck with that." Paloma's tone was actually pretty sincere. After a few more shared pictures, Paloma figured that she was done. She rolled onto her side and sat up at the foot of the bed. Rolling her neck, she turned back to look at her erstwhile audience.

"You guys got anything? I can't do all the work here, can I?" She gave a cheeky grin.

"I've got sore feet", Ariana snarked, "but you probably wouldn't want those."

Ambition was an interesting beast and it seems that her roommates had it in spades. Ariana herself had ambition, but she felt hers was a little bit more realistic. The Olympics was a fine goal, but she wasn't entirely sure if Sierra truly was as good at whatever-it-was that she did to have a realistic chance at getting there. Still, she admired the gall. Rubbing another kink out of her foot, she addressed Katrina's question after a moment of self-reflection.

"As for accomplishment?" Her tone was still light but the determination that filtered through her words wasn't. "I'm going to work for the FBI some day. Put the bad guys behind bars, and all that."

Letting her foot drop and straightening her knee, she relaxed her legs, now stretched out on the floor. She smiled an impish grin as she took a quick glance at the other three girls.

"So we've got an Olympic champion, a Grammy winner, a Federal Agent," Ariana trailed off. "What about you, Paloma? How're you going to contribute to room 816's legacy of fame and fortune?"

Katrina had to respect the ladies in her room. They all had some pretty cool goals in mind. A Gold Medal at the Olympics was pretty awesome, so Katrina had to hope Sierra could earn one. She didn't know much about federal agents, but Katrina could imagine how cool it would be to be like Jodie Foster, so she had to commend Ariana for that goal. She'd probably look good in a suit and with a gun too.

Paloma asked for if the girls had anything else to share, causing Katrina to hop a bit in place.

"Oh, I got some stuff!"

She rolled off the bed onto her feet and hurried over to her bags from the Kennedy Center.

"I made it to the Kennedy Center, which is like the coolest performance venue in DC," she explained. "Check out some of the cool stuff I got."

Katrina dumped the bags onto the bed and spread the items out.

"I mean, I couldn't stop once I was there. So look what I got."

She held up a white t-shirt with various black-and-white pictures of the theatre with the words "I Performed at the Kennedy Center" on it.

"I got this shirt. It's a little early to say I performed there, but I did try to sing a few bars as I walked through the opera theatre. I'll wait until I get my Kennedy Center Honors to really perform there."

She then held up a black-and-white scarf with some hexagonal patterns.

"And I got this scarf that's modeled after the ceiling. It's just a cool geometric pattern and- oh!"

She then grabbed a black box and opened it up. It was a gold chain with a charm of a ballet dancer.

"They also had these cool necklaces of the Degas Little Dancer. I just think it's cool and different. Oh, and one more thing."

Katrina opened a cardboard box and pulled out a black coffee mug with the words "So. Much. Drama!" on it.

Katrina giggled a bit.

"So yeah, I couldn't help but go crazy there. There was just so much cool stuff to buy."

Sierra watched as Katrina excitedly gather her bags and dumped their contents onto the bed. Sierra raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised by the number of items her roommate had gathered for herself. Gone crazy indeed... There was no way this stuff was cheap. Gift shops tend to charge a ton for this sort of crap all the time, she should know since the zoo where her dad works has personalized pens that cost $14 each at the gift shop. It was no doubt that Katrina's wallet was a little hurting. But whatever, let the girl be happy with her purchases.

"That's pretty neat." Sierra intoned, nodding her head a little to show she was interested. She wasn't reallu, but she was playing nice.

She looked over to Ariana, looking down to her feet before looking back up to her face.

"If you have the time, I recommend going out and getting yourself some sneakers with memory foam in them," She suggested. "Or get a good pair of hiking boots like I brought on this trip." To emphasis her point Sierra pointed at the pair of tan boots that sat next to the bed that she claimed as her own with her thumb. "I find either or helps with making it so your feet aren't as sore by the end of the day."

In any case, Paloma and Ariana have shown what they've got on this first day of the trip, Sierra figured she might as well share.

"As for what I've got, I've only got that bear over there." Sierra pointed to the cute red, white, and blue teddy that sat on her pillow. It was going to be such a nice addition to her collection, but she couldn't let these three know that it was for herself. "It is a gift for someone back home." She quickly added. That should be more than sufficient to throw them off the trail.

Ooh, Ariana gave her an opening. Paloma wasn't actually sure why she hadn't mentioned her own goal. She thought she had? Anyway. "I wrote there that I wanted to have a display there myself someday. Y'know, 'cause I'm also an artist." She could probably show off some of her portraits that she'd uploaded-actually she should totally do that-but maybe another time. She was tired now.

Katrina had an absurd amount of random knickknacks, and Sierra got a stuffed animal. Paloma kind of wanted to say something about the gift store crap, but she could hold her tongue. She could! "It's a cute bear. Who's it for?" Paloma had no idea if Sierra had siblings or something. If nothing else it would give someone else something to talk about so she could look at her photos more.

In the meantime, Paloma zoned out on what she suspected was a burgeoning discussion on comfortable footwear and/or, like, siblings, neither of which were that important to her. She crossed her ankles and started going through her pictures again, fondly recalling the memories of being in the subject's presence earlier today.

They were good photos, in her opinion.
