V3 Endgame

It isn't much now, but at one time, this airfield was the life of the island. It contains a sole landing strip in the middle of an overgrown field, and the solitary air control tower nearby looms menacingly over the island. The remains of a downed aircraft sit nearby, having crashed long after the island base had been abandoned.

(OOC: Any God-Modding of characters in this thread was approved by each character's handler.)

(Trish McCarroll continued from When There's Nothing Left to Burn)

Noon eventually came, and unfortunately for Trish, she could still see. James' ghastly corpse now emitted the same stench that she'd been trying so desperately to avoid for the past two weeks, and her pants were now stained with his blood. Anyone else might have found it disgusting or oddly sentimental, but she doubted she could comprehend either of those feelings at the moment. Nothing made sense to her right now.

The familiar crackling of the P.A system roused Trish from her living coma and prompted her to remove herself from her now uncomfortable sitting position beside James. Her leg was asleep, as was to be expected, but she found herself paying more attention to the speakers than her ailing limb. The familiar voice that rang through them no longer had the capacity to irritate her.

"You'll be happy to know that thanks to the relentlessness of you kiddies, we're finally down to the last four!"

Danya's revelation wasn't surprising. It had been two full weeks since the Southridge High class was dumped on the island, and his mission had been a success. The grand majority of them were dead, and the other three that were still alive...well, surely they had to be at least half as mindfucked as she was. He certainly sounded pleased with himself.

"Ms. Trish McCarroll...not only have you managed four kills of your own, you even managed to get all of your closest friends killed! How's that for a piece of art?"

"FUCK YOU!" She screamed suddenly in protest, infuriated by Danya's implication and disproving her original belief that Danya could no longer get under her skin. She wasn't hearing the rest of his announcement - really, she couldn't give a damn who else was left alive anymore. Any and everyone she once considered a friend was now dead, and ultimately their sacrifices had been in vain. Even if Trish survived, they all died for nothing. Danya's disgustingly suave voice made that all too clear. Trish would've liked nothing better than to rip into him with her rifle at that moment...

...which she was no longer carrying.

Turning back towards the control tower where she'd left her equipment, Trish made her way into the building as Danya ordered the remaining students to make their way to the airfield. Any other day she'd have considered herself fortunate not to have been caught in a danger zone, but now she had only one thing in mind. Blowing Danya's brains out seemed like a fantastic idea. Cliche? Sure, but it was the only thing that kept the scarring image of James, Danni, and Jake's corpses out of her head - that, and the vague and distant possibility that she might get to hug her mom one more time.

Her body was wounded, her mind was beyond repair, and her spirit was completely shattered, yet somehow Trish managed to kneel down beside her trusty assault rifle and begin the tedious process of preparing for what would be her penultimate battle. Three more attacks to survive until she avenged her friends. It was the least she could give back to them, all of whom having made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of keeping her alive.

Her first step was hiding Lex's supplies in the now somewhat destroyed locker upstairs in the control tower. She highly doubted anyone in the final four was going to run around looking for more guns in lockers at this point, and that way if the AK failed her she'd have a backup plan. Something about the grenades made her uneasy - subconsciously she was sure it was memories of James' recent demise - so she stashed them in the locker along with the rest of Lex's supplies.

Afterwards she reloaded the AK, storing two more clips in her pockets and finally zipping up and hoisting the day pack back over her shoulder. She didn't have time to make mistakes anymore...there were no other friends who could save her. This time, she had to do it alone.

Ducking down behind the window in the control tower, Trish gathered herself and waited.

((Lulu Altaire continued from Match Point))

Lulu Altaire was heading towards the airfield from the safety of the showers. Her day pack was slung over one shoulder and her war scythe was resting over the other. With each step she took, a feeling of dread entered the small girl's stomach. Her lips were pulled into a tight line and her glasses were resting at the edge of her nose. At this point in time, they were absolutely filthy and scratched beyond fixing. But it wasn't bad. Lulu could deal with it. She had witnessed murder, death, hardships and more. She could handle a bit of dirt on her specs.

The walk to the airfield was filled with a very uncomfortable silence. Lenny didn't say much, and Lulu didn't feel too inspired to speak. What was there to say? Good luck? It just all felt so wrong and unnatural. But although the silence was nearing unbearable, the walk to the final destination was fairly peaceful. Lulu didn't feel as if she was in any immediate danger. Even if she ran into anybody, who would worry about fighting outside of the airfield? Everywhere was going to become a danger zone soon. The chance of an ambush before reaching her destination was rather low. Thus, Lulu took the chance to breathe and think about her situation without the danger of death.

"The airfield... What will I find there?" Lulu asked herself, brushing a strand of greasy hair from her forehead. Nerves bubbled in her stomach, but she willed herself to walk forward. It was like a procession of death. She didn't even take in the sights as she walked - a beautiful flower, a marvelous fruit tree, a bird singing, a mutilated corpse... It all went unseen, for her mind was elsewhere. "When I get there, it'll be Lenny and me... then two others. What should I do? Hide? Will there be an attack as soon as we enter the field? Should I get my gun out now?"

She shook her head and felt completely clueless. Besides, Lulu didn't want to use that gun again. Perhaps she should just hand it over to Lenny? He would need it more than she did... Yet, she couldn't just give it up. It was her protection. She couldn't hope to defend herself with a large, clumsy scythe! Coming to a brief conclusion, Lulu realized that she must keep her machine gun - using it was a completely different story.

She had killed twice before, but she couldn't imagine killing again. But how would it be when she was staring at the three people standing in her path? Would she grow hostile and violent? These three people were the only things in the world that were standing between herself and home! Herself and her grandmother! But no matter how appealing the thought sounded, Lulu just couldn't fathom mowing everyone down to benefit herself. It was grotesque. She would have to be rational and reasonable about this. That was what her grandmother would want. She had to prove to her grandmother that she wasn't some psychopathic murderer that Danya had practically made her out to be.

Calm; rational; reasonable. Lulu repeated these three words in her head. She wouldn't lose herself to fear or primitive instincts.

After a few more minutes of walking (or perhaps more), Lulu finally spotted the airfield in the distance. She squinted her eyes but couldn't spot anyone in sight. The field was in a state of disarray, but there was no immediate danger. Regardless, the grip on her scythe tightened and a hand flew to the zipper of her pack. She continued to walk mechanically forward, as if she were some type of robot. Forward... forward... Step by step.

Lulu Altaire passed the border between here and there. She passed the border between the beginning and the end. This was it, and it frightened her. "Here we are.. the airfield.. " She began to shake as she looked around the airfield. She wanted to hide. "H-hey.. What should we do now?" Lulu asked Lenny, her voice a mere rusty whisper.

((Lenny continued from Match Point))

This, Lenny Priestly knew, was going to be it.

Some way or another, everything was going to come to an end.

In a strange, odd fashion... Lenny was looking forward to it. He didn't know whether or not he was going to live, and he wasn't entirely sure he cared either. His injuries were weighing him down, among other things. What did he have to go home to? He'd failed a long time ago. Liz was dead and yet he was alive. Lenny imagined facing up to his parents, trying to tell them why he'd made it out and hadn't watched over her... not a pleasant thought.

But I won't lie down. Lenny resolved. That wasn't how he planned to make his exit. Even if he died... he wanted to go with a bang, not a whimper.

Lenny was content enough not to speak to Lulu as they walked alongside one another. It wasn't really the time for conversation. One or both of them was going to be dead soon and reassurances were just going to ring false. Besides, Lulu didn't look much like she needed it. To Lenny, it looked as if his companion had done the same as he: sorted things out. Wrangled herself into the right state of mind.

That was good. It was necessary. Without that mindset, well, entertaining the thought of survival was a bad joke. Lenny had an idea that Lulu wasn't quite as resigned or apathetic as he himself yet, but if he was getting the wrong impression about her... Well, best not to dwell on that too much.

Lenny glanced up, having been concentrating on keeping his footing in the treacherous jungle... and there it was. Through the remaining tree cover, he could see a bare landing strip, the ruined corpses of vehicles... The airfield. The end looked to be closer than ever and Lenny felt his anticipation building. Thirteen days had been leading up to this time, this moment. The grand stage.

He hoped not to disappoint.

Lenny looked over at Lulu as she spoke and favoured her with a wry grin.

"Well, I guess what we do is wait and see who else has come to the party. Then we try and kill them."

His smile widened a little as he checked over his pistol.

"Good times all around."

(John Rizzolo continued from: Episode 1087: Murder on the Midnight Wire)

His feet were sore. His head was sore. His arms were sore. John Rizzolo's body was in pain but he knew he had to be getting close. He had heard from Danya's latest announcement that he had made it to the final four students remaining but it felt like he was taking weeks, no months to get to the airfield. Despite the pain shooting through his system John knew he would have to be on top of his game. John quietly checked to be sure that he had reloaded each of his guns. Six shots left in the Type 67. Three clips for the MP7. Plenty of ammunition to get through 3 other people.

Just three people...three people and I go home.

John analyzed his remaining opponents in his head.

Steve Digaetano and Alexis Machina are dead, they were huge threats to me. Lenny has killed a good number of people too, I'll have to take a shot at him if I get it. From what Danya said, Trish has herself an AK-47. I'll just pray she's gone through the ammo on that thing because I'm fucked if she takes a spray and pray approach. Lulu...Lulu doesn't stand a chance. She's always been soft. She was always the one who would try and help people with their problems. Hell Johnny boy, remember her trying to help you? That was funny. Mr. Spera's class when you got reamed about your project she sat there trying to be your 'friend'. I'll bet she was secretly loving the fact that you were getting a lower mark than her.

The memory of his former class was causing John's face to flush red with anger.

Problem here John is that from what it sounds like, Lenny and Lulu probably fucked earlier on and are now going Bonnie and Clyde on everyone that walks into the airfield. You need a better strategy.

The smell of burnt wood filled JR's nostrils as he neared the Airfield, a smell which brought back all to recent memories of killing Laeil and Emma. A small smirk formed on Riz's face at the thought.

Ratings machine right here...

The foliage surrounding him was growing less and less dense until John could finally make out the faint outline of the control tower. As he crept through the brush John noticed two figures approaching the Airfield from the far side.

"Shit." John muttered under his breath.

It turned out that Lenny and Lulu were together. John had to find a way to get them separated, but how. A million different ideas were running through John's head, each one seemed as improbable as the last. He needed a distraction and a good one. He knew that he could take out one easily, but the second of the two would easily mow him down. John dropped to his stomach causing his body to once again protest the strain. Crawling slowly forward, John's eyes scanned the area for something, anything that he could use to gain the upper hand. He still found nothing. It looked like his best bet was to hide out and pray that Trish showed up before Lenny and Lulu started scanning the surrounding area.

Trish's eyes unfocused for a second. She hadn't taken time to change or moisturize her contacts recently, and the dry irritation was beginning to impair her concentration. She closed her eyes as her muscles clenched, becoming visibly frustrated by the newest roadblock to present itself. After all, all she needed was another disadvantage when she was this close to getting home, wasn't it?

"Why now..."

Her eyes welled up in response to the pressure, which, fortunately for her, eased the pain of the hardened lenses against her cornea. Pulling up a stray finger to wipe away the damp spots in the inner canthuses, she re-gripped the handle of her gun and stole another cursory glance out the control tower window. This time, a foreboding sight met her eyes.

"Two of them are together...?"

Her mind wandered for a minute. She'd been distracted from the final announcement by James' demise. She at least remembered who the other three students were that remained however, and armed with that knowledge, she stole another quick glance before retreating behind cover for safety.

"Lenny and Lulu. Shit."

Were she to have cared more, she'd probably have wondered why a sweetheart like Lulu Altaire was helping a psychopath like Lenny Priestly, but she found the trivial question outside her realm of concern. Right now, Trish's only focus was on staying alive. After surviving for two weeks in SOTF, she now knew without a shadow of a doubt that she was capable of doing whatever it took to make sure that happened.

"Gotta separate them somehow..." She thought to herself. It was the most rational plan. Hopefully J.R could distract one of them while she managed to handle the other, and she'd face the winner afterwards. Right now, even a docile, innocent creature like Lulu wouldn't be garnering any mercy from her. She'd lost too much to give up now.

Suddenly, the memory of her and James approaching the control tower mere hours before flashed through her head once more, and as Lex's battered, spewing visage once more traipsed through Trish's memory, the resulting idea hit her like a ton of bricks.

Quickly and quietly, Trish scrambled across the floor to the locker, pulling it open and removing two of the remaining concussion grenades from its contents. She didn't feel very comfortable carrying them, sure, but that didn't mean she couldn't use them to separate Lenny and Lulu - or maybe, in an ideal world, even finish one of them right there and then. The idea of having to kill them didn't bring her any satisfaction, but for the moment she was desensitized to its repercussions.

"They're still too far away..."

Crouching in suspense, Trish clutched the concussion grenade for dear life and said a silent prayer to the God she barely believed in that it wouldn't be too much longer before the game was over.

Lenny scanned the airfield, and saw nothing.

Yet, he knew the other two were out there. They were probably watching him and Lulu now. Such a strange thought, after so many days, so many encounters and killings and struggles here it all was. The final four, so close to each other.

Lenny Priestly shifted uncomfortably, feeling a sudden pang of pain in his side. He knew his injuries were bad. Maybe though, he could just keep pushing the pain away. Just keep pushing it back into his head until his time. Would he die or would he go home? It didn't even matter. He just wanted to find a release now. An escape. Though he wouldn't just die. Not this far into the game. He wouldn't just lay down and let someone take him out. He fought his way until this point, and he would fight until his last breath, when he would finally be with Elizabeth again.

Maybe.

Lenny wanted to believe in a God. He wanted to believe in a here after. It was a nice thought that Liz was looking down on him right now, waiting for him to come join her wherever she may be in the heavens. Then again, that's all it is.

A thought.

If there was an afterlife, who was he kidding. He would be going to Hell.

Might as well earn my stay there then

Lenny looked to Lulu and said, "Well, let's see what we can shake up around here."

Lenny started to walk forward, looking around, hoping to maybe catch sight of the competitors, or maybe lure one of them out. It didn't matter, he just wanted to get this on with.

"It's been nice teaming up with you Lulu. Umm..." Lenny turned to look at her. He offered his free hand to shake hers.

"Thanks I guess. I mean, I did want to kill you for the whole helping take my sister thing, but I guess right now all that doesn't matter. You've been a good companion to talk to, and I figure I might as well get this thanks out of the way because chances are within the next fifteen minutes both of us could be dead."

As the two stepped onto the field, Lulu glanced over at Lenny and frowned. Her forehead wrinkled slightly as her eyes scanned the abandoned field. "W..Wait and then kill..." she mumbled to herself, face growing slightly darker. "I dunno about that. Maybe we should hide or something..." She trailed off and gripped the handle of her scythe tighter. She felt on-edge and uneasy. She knew that the end was close and that three more deaths were inevitable, but regardless... She still felt a little weird. Perhaps because this was the first time that she realized that Lenny and herself had two very different goals in mind. Lenny didn't mind killing. Lulu did, although she would do it if she had to; for self-defense. She would much rather prefer to hide and eventually be found. She was never brave enough to do the searching. She was positive that hiding wouldn't bode well with Lenny, and she was too nervous to mention it.

Removing her glasses, she quickly swiped the lenses of her glasses clean and returned them to her face. "Calm down. Keep walking. Stay on your toes but keep walking." And Lulu did just that. She continued to walk with Lenny by her side. They walked in silence for a few more steps until her companion's voice broke the chilling and eerie silence. She glanced over at the boy in confusion, and her lip quivered silently. She was just so scared. "I don't want to shake anything up, I want to get out of here," she protested, looking around in a paranoid sort of way. They were walking targets out here! This was a wide open field and the other two players were no where to be seen. Of course, one could attribute this to the fact that they hadn't yet arrived, but... What if they had? What if they were merely hiding in wait, silently resolving to pick off the two with a rifle? It was so likely, and this scared Lulu to bits.

Continuing her walk, the girl began to shake a little. It was one thing to talk so bravely back at the showers, but this was the real deal. This was it. The final battle; the final countdown. Lulu thought she was going to explode with the tension that was surrounding her. Every thought in her brain seemed conflicting and fear-driven. She wanted to run off far away from here. Fortunately, no matter her doubts, her feet continued to move slowly forward. She couldn't back out now. It was do or die. "It's fine and great to keep that motto in mind, but you just gotta realize that there will be more die than do. Don't wimp out now," she told herself. She felt slightly comforted.

The silence was averted once more by Lenny who said that it was nice teaming up with Lulu and then held out his hand. Lulu stared at the hand in confusion for a moment and then smiled very slightly. He proceeded to thank her for being a good companion and mentioned that he wanted to say this before it was too late. Lenny was right... There probably wouldn't be a great chance to talk later on. They might both be lying face down in the dirt. Holding out her tiny hand, Lulu gripped Lenny's and shook it. She suppressed the urge to give the boy a hug or cry or something absolutely silly. She didn't want to look overly sentimental or something.

"You're right. You were a good companion as well." Lulu was trying to be as formal as possible in her thank-yous. She didn't want to accidentally say anything too sappy and tempt the tears to spill. "I knew you weren't all that bad. I just knew it. We're a good team, so let's keep going! If we're going to die within the next fifteen minutes, we might as well fight to survive." It sounded cheesy to Lulu, but it made her feel completely better. False words bred false confidence, which bred a false sense of bravery. "Let's go."

Lulu beamed with happiness as she walked forward. Lenny thought she was a good companion! She couldn't be happier that she had been complimented in such a way. Sure, there was a feeling of solemnity behind his words, but she didn't mind. He was right after all. Their chance of survival was slim, but she'd already accepted that. "I kinda accepted that more than a week ago." With more of a perk in her step, Lulu stepped across the barren field and saw something dead ahead. It was a control tower! "Oh, look! I bet we could wait in there! Let's go!" She grabbed Lenny's arm and pulled him in the direction of the tower. Exhaustion and thirst were negatively affecting her sense of judgment. Lulu saw a safe haven to hide in without even realizing that someone else could possibly be hiding inside in wait.

Lulu got within a few dozen feet of the tower and pointed up at it with her scythe. "There."

Trish's heart bounded as she anticipated what was to come. The climax of the game was right in front of her, and the pressure associated with having to strike the final blow was immense. With the rest of the game she'd been protected by the ambiguity of what may or may not lay around every corner, which had served to keep her on her toes. Now, however, she knew what was coming - all she could hope for was that the other three didn't.

Stealing another glance out the shattered window, Trish had just enough time to notice that Lulu was now leading the pair closer to the control tower. Her grip on the grenade tightened reflexively, and she felt her breathing become shallow and laboured. The cold feeling of metal against her fingertips reminded her of her fear of the grenade exploding in her hand, however, and she loosened her grip to compensate.

Trish's sweat glands were working overtime now; the heat of the mid-day sun combined with her anxiety made for some rather unattractive patches showing through her now worn and ragged t-shirt. In the back of her mind Trish noticed for a second that she smelled similar to a used jockstrap at the moment, but despite the unpleasant and uncomfortable feeling the uncleanliness brought her, it didn't hold a candle to how nervous the prospect of having to mow down another three of her classmates made her feel. The shred of her conscience she held onto reminded her that she could try to wait out the impending collision between the other three and save herself some blood on her shirt, but her desire to survive won out.

Her mouth was dry, but Trish swallowed in a vain effort to regain some sense of control. She closed her eyes forcefully for a second, whispering some rushed words of encouragement to herself before repositioning and taking another glance out the window. It was now or never.

Hesitantly, Trish moved into a kneel behind the windowpane. She counted herself down from five, and when she'd finished, she removed the pin from one of the concussion grenades and swung her arm forcefully towards Lenny and Lulu, releasing the doombringer in her stride.

"Please just do me a favour and fucking die..."

Moving with the momentum, Trish heaved the AK up into her arms and balanced it on the windowpane, gripping it forcefully to hold her position with as little recoil as possible and firing short bursts from the rifle out towards the pair.

Lenny didn't know how or when the attack was going to happen, but he knew it would happen. They were out in the open walking around, easy targets. He didn't see the grenade being lobbed, but he saw it land in front of him and Lulu. Such a curious object, but one that could bring so much death. Thousands of thoughts raced through Lenny's mind, as he turned around and yelled.

"Run!"

He only managed to take a couple steps before the explosion picked him up and threw him forward. He landed on his stomach and face, feeling a burning sensation all over. He pressed his bloody palms into the ground and turned himself over, looking around for Lulu to make sure she was ok. He looked down at his body, no missing parts, but he saw that his clothes were torn, and there was blood. Then the bullets started, and Lenny realized he had lost his handgun. He saw it a couple yards to his right.

A bullet hit the ground right next to him, and Lenny forced himself up and sprinted as best as he could towards the handgun, picking it up he continued forward looking for any cover he could find. A round pierced his leg and he gritted his teeth, limped towards cover.

John remained hidden in the bush watching, waiting, and praying that an opening would present itself. It was agonizing to know that he couldn't defeat these two together. They were both weaker than him, physically and mentally, but it was the fact that John could clearly see they were armed that was stopping him. The damn bullets. Bullets had been something John was lucky enough to have avoided his entire stay on the island and he intended on keeping it this way.

"Dammit. One of you fucking do something." Riz whispered under his breath.

Almost as if he had God listening in on his requests the action began. Lenny and Lulu approached the control tower. The very same control tower that John had began his chase with Velvet earlier in the week. As the two survivors approached the tower John spotted the head of someone in the window lobbing something down upon Lenny and Lulu.

"Well this certainly makes things interesting." Riz said with a smile as he shielded his eyes.

The explosion was louder than he expected it to be, but John was safely out of shrapnel distance. The explosion was followed by the unmistakeable sound of an AK47 rapid firing down upon the boy and the girl.

"I guess Trish got here before us." John said as he squinted through the dust created by the bullets and grenade.

John slowly crept out of the bushes to get a better look. He quickly dashed over to the cover of a nearby plane. He could see both Lenny and Lulu scrambling around in panic as the bullets rained down. Perfect time to single out one of them, but he needed to hurry. Trish's clip would be out shortly and he'd lost his good cover. Through the chaos John could see Lenny scrambling slowly towards cover, while Lulu still looked distressed.

John pulled out his Type 67, deciding to save the more lethal MP7 for later. Carefully aiming towards Lulu, John squeezed off two shots.

"Come and get me you bitch," John shouted, "Gramma isn't here to save you Lulu. Come and get me."

John sprinted out from the cover of the airplane to give Lulu and glimpse of him. Every muscle in his body still protested from his fight with Eddie, but it would be worth it soon. If John could get to one of the hangars, he knew he could easily dispatch of Lulu. John ducked behind another plane, backing up slowly to give himself a view of where Lulu was. As he stepped back, he felt himself fall backwards on top of something.

"Jesus!" Riz exclaimed as he backed himself away from the mangled corpse of Emma Babineaux. In all the excitement since that day John had nearly forgotten about his last adventure in the airfield. He quickly rose back to his feet scouting for where Lulu was. That is if she was even following him. Fuck there was still a lot of dust from the gunfire and grenade.

Where the hell is she?

Lulu took a single step back at the sight of the grenade that was thrown from the control tower window. She found herself slightly shocked and confused at the presence of such a thing. At first, she mistook it as a black bird or something of the sort. Just a small bird that was oblivious to the death and murder. The bird was probably just searching for food or water; maybe even shelter. Lulu almost took a step forward to shoo it away but Lenny instructed her to run. "What?" she thought to herself, utterly confused. Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. That was no bird... It was a grenade. At the realization of this, she let out a sharp shriek and quickly ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction. Within mere seconds, the grenade exploded with a deafening bang and tossed the girl carelessly to the side.

Lulu landed roughly on the ground, her cheek planted firmly to the dirt. Her duffel bag and scythe had been thrown a few feet away from her and her glasses were, unfortunately, no where to be seen. Pushing herself off the ground, she groaned and examined her blurry body. She couldn't see much but everything appeared to be intact... She could feel scratches and scrapes all over her limbs and there was a wicked ache in her bones. She willed herself to stand up, but she just wanted to sit there. Sit and panic. "I..I..I.. I almost got blown up!"

Lulu stood up and decided that the next course of action would be to search for her missing glasses. They had to be somewhere nearby. She could have sworn that they had fallen off when she landed... She ran her hands across the rough earth for a few seconds, but stopped short when something small and loud hit the ground beside her. She screamed and jumped back as the sounds of gunshots filled the air. The shots were coming from behind her, most likely from the very same tower where the grenade was thrown. Whoever had tried to blow them up was now trying to shoot them... At this grim realization, Lulu frantically looked around blindly and called for Lenny. "Lenny! Lenny! My glasses!" she screamed, but her voice sounded distant and weak. She didn't even know where Lenny was. Was he even alive? Perhaps he had gotten killed in the explosion... She quickly reassured herself that no such thing had occurred. He would be okay, right? He was the one who had told Lulu to run... Surely, if Lulu survived the blast, he had probably survived too.

She quickly turned her attention away from thoughts of Lenny and back to the situation at hand. Rapid bullets were being fired from the control tower, but she couldn't do much about it. She didn't want to run away for fear of stepping on her specs, but if she stayed in a stationary position like this, she would surely be shot. Tears began to fill her eyes as her panic level rose drastically. "What do I do, what do I do?!" she asked herself. She eventually decided to stay low and quickly find her glasses. Dropping to the ground, she let her hands trail over the earth in wide arcs. Once she found her glasses, she would search for Lenny. She would make sure he was safe, make sure... Aha! Lulu made a slight sound of desperate happiness as her hand wrapped around the plastic frames of her glasses. She immediately slid them on her face and stood up, her eyes searching the area for Lenny.

She spotted him quite a ways away from her. He was limping. Had he been shot? She considered running towards him and helping him, but a bullet hit the ground in front of her and ultimately changed her mind. She was relieved that he had survived the explosion, but maybe she should wait until the gunfire ceased to head over there. Spotting her scythe and duffel bag, Lulu ran towards them and gathered them into her arms. She hugged them close to her body like teddy bears or a close friend. Just as she was about to break off into another run, two gunshots distracted her. These shots were much closer and sounded differently than the rifle from ahead. One of the two bullets managed to sink itself into Lulu's arm, just below the shoulder. The other clipped the top of her shoulder.

Lulu yelled out loudly and grasped her arm. A crimson liquid stained through her ruined sweater and dripped down her left arm. Blood seeped through the fingers of her right hand. Her eyes were wide and panicked, but she resisted the urge to scream or cry. She couldn't do that. Someone was targeting her. Someone, a male, was calling her a bitch and mentioning her 'gramma.' A pain shot through her heart at the mention of her beloved family member... Her head was swimming with pain, with confusion, with questions... Would her attacker be content with Lulu merely lying on the ground and giving up?

"Get a hold of yourself. You're not dying, keep going. Look at Lenny! He's sustained a ton of injuries and he's still going. It might hurt, but keep going. You won't die."

Lulu sucked in her breath and spotted Riz running from behind one plane to the next. She knew that she couldn't sit still for long. If she ran back to Lenny now, Riz would probably follow. Then she would have brought unnecessary trouble for Lenny. They would have to deal with Riz and Trish. It was at this moment that Lulu realized how weird her competition was. Riz was that nice guy from English class and although Lulu didn't know Trish that well, she always considered the other girl rather kind... But now she was trying to blow Lulu up. So what would it be? Run to Lenny or apprehend Riz here and now? This was her own battle and perhaps it would probably be best if she tried to fight it. Or at least try to talk some sense into him. There was no reason for them to fight... She thought that they were on friendly terms at least... "So what if you do make nice with Riz? That isn't going to change much. Three people have to die right here, right now. He knows that. I know that."

Removing her bloodied hand from the throbbing wounds on her arm, Lulu tried to push away the pain and move forward. She kept her hand on her scythe and slowly made her way towards the plane. Slowly... slowly... He had a gun, she had a scythe. "...And Madison's gun, but... I barely know how to use that thing.." Pulling herself close to the side of the plane, Lulu glanced around but didn't see Riz. He was probably on the other side. "J-John?" she called out weakly, her left hand gripping the zipper of her bag. "We.. uh.. I.." She wasn't sure what to say... Would he listen to any of her propositions? "I didn't appreciate being called a ... b-i-t-c-h!" she spelled, face going pink. "I didn't do anything to hurt you, I thought we were friends!" She slowly rounded the side of the plane and peeked over at Riz, fearful that he would begin to shoot at her again. She was shaking uncontrollably, her teeth chattering.

Trish ducked her head behind the ledge near the window, then scrambled across the room to get as far away from it as she could. Knowing her luck, one of them had a couple grenades up their sleeve, too. Even a bullet wouldn't have been a welcome grievance. Still, for now she remained unscathed, and the nagging voice in the back of her head reminded her that if she had any chance of making it out alive, she'd have to stay that way.

Ejecting the empty clip from the rifle and slamming a new one in, Trish barely had time to notice that the process had almost become automatic for her. The strategical way she had to think out every second of her life, the constant awareness of what was around every corner, the completely inability to trust anybody other than herself...

In passing, she couldn't help but wonder if her life would always be like this, even if she escaped.

"Worry about that when they're dead!"

"Ugh," Trish grunted suddenly to nobody in particular as she kicked the empty clip out of her way. That inner voice of hers was starting to get really annoying.

Retrieving another AK clip, which she thankfully had plenty of, she replaced it into her pocket where her old replacement had been. While quickly rummaging through the daypack, she decided that keeping the handgun within close reach would be a good idea too incase she ran out of time to reload, and with some effort (and after making sure the safety was on) she managed to shove it in her back jeans pocket, making sure to tuck her shirt over top of it to conceal it, just in case.

Zipping up the pack, she realized that she could no longer afford to heave it around. It was now or never.

"Three magazines for the rifle, and whatever rounds are in that handgun. Better hope luck's on your side, bitch."

That time was different than the others. The voice in her head had materialized in the form of Danni Champney - but the reminder of her death was the furthest thing from motivating. Trish shook her head. After two weeks in Survival of the Fittest, it was surely natural for anyone to be slightly delusional - but now was the most inconvenient of times.

"What are you waiting for? Go kick some ass!"

The image of Danni breathing her last breath flashed through Trish's head, which she quickly managed to shake off...but with it, there was yet another memory that resonated deeper. This one, however, came in the form of a revelation.

Subconsciously, Trish's fingers reached down into one of her pockets. The crumpled slip of paper she retrieved had gone untouched by her for almost two days at this point, but her stomach sank as she realized what it held. They were the only keepsake she had left to remind her of Danni...

*BANG! BANG!*

Two shots rung out clearly across the airfield, and Trish was snapped out of her distraction harshly. She crouched just above the stairwell against the wall, and hastily opened the piece of paper reflexively before reaching for her gun. She could only hope that Danni's "last words", as she had labeled them, weren't written in the form of a poem.

Trish smoothed out the wrinkles of the paper. It was blank. Her eyes frantically scanned its surface, but as gullibility faded away after an instant, she managed to turn it over.

"LIVE! :)"

Trish, stunned by the contents (or rather, the lack thereof) of the note, would have smiled had she time. Now, however, she had to take Danni's advice.

"As you wish," she whispered to herself and to Danni, shoving the note in her pocket and regripping the rifle. Trish bounded down the stairs, taking a moment to compose herself against the first floor wall of the control tower before sweeping across the doorway, firing a burst of bullets towards a figure running across the airfield. She clambered against the opposite wall, her breathing picking up as she waited for the inevitable return fire to pass, protected by the safety of the tower's steel walls.

Lenny stumbled forward and turned his head to get a hold of what was going on. Bullets were being fired, and it sounded like there were now two shooters. The scene had quickly gone to hell, and Lenny sadly was accustomed to this now. He was accustomed to the pain, the smells, the screams that were sure to follow. He had to let his hatred motivate him now, because he had nothing left. He had to let that darkness, that part of him that let him kill and capture and do what he did to protect his sister, he had to let that out. He caught site of Lulu by a plane. He couldn't tell if she was injured or not. He debated trying to make his way across my open over to her. Then more shots rang out that made his answer clear.

He was on his own right now.

The bullets kicked up the ground all around him and sped past him, one ripping through his pack, and another slamming into his side.

Lenny fell to the ground his face hitting the ground hard. He let out a small grunt. He was dying. He didn't know how he made it this far, he had taken so much abuse, and he knew his body was protesting now, the miracle that kept him alive is now leaving. He knew he would die here, and he was ok with that. Maybe he could make up for failing to protect Liz by getting Lulu off this island, and failing that, he didn't plan to go out like a chump.

Lenny smiled and spit out blood, never a good sign.

Pushing himself to his feet, he looked at the tower ahead of him, where the bullets had came from. He knew he couldn't hit anybody inside, no use wasting ammo though he knew he would have to keep the person inside while he made his way to the tower. Raising his handgun, he aimed as best as he could as he fired three shots towards the steel tower just as warning shouts as he shouted, "Come on! That's the best you can fucking do!?!"

Lenny jogged as fast as he could up to the tower and pressed himself against the outside away from the window, hoping he wasn't in anyone's line of fire. He tried to see if he could see Lulu but couldn't see her anymore.

Come on Lulu, fight like hell. I'm about to.

It took everything John had in him not to burst out laughing as Lulu spoke. Her words were laced with a tone that almost compassion. This girl did not get it. She was about to die and she was still trying to reason with the people she had been pitted up against.

Realizing that Lulu was on the other side of the plane, John looked down at the corpse of Emma and felt the tinge of inspiration.

This won't work twice Johnny boy.

"Yes it will." John whispered to himself.

John rose up from his crouched position and slowly stepped away from the aircraft until he could see Lulu. John made sure to keep his pistol trained on the girl just in case she produced a form of threat.

"Okay Lulu, you're right we are friends. We really are. All those great moments in English class, yeah I remember them," John began as he narrowed his eyes against the morning sunlight, "What now though Lu? I mean what are we supposed to do? You know I've killed people, I know you've killed people. Our classmates, people that we were friends with too, remember? On top of that Lu-bear, you've been pal-ing around with Lenny fucking Priestly. The one person out here who is more dangerous than me. Lulu for God's sake, Lenny killed one of your best friends! Do you not understand that Anna wouldn't have wanted you to team with the guy who killed her? Seriously did this island make our entire class a fucking retard jamboree?"

John stopped to take a breath and analyze Lulu's reaction. When she seemed about ready to speak, John interrupted.

"Come on Lu, you and I both know that only one person is walking away from this. Do you really think you can beat Trish who has fucking grenades and an AK? Do you really think you can beat Lenny? If you thought you could, you would have killed him already. You know your best chance is against me. I've got four shots left in this pistol and I'll admit I've got another gun slung across my back. If you really want to get out of here and see your grandmother again, you know what we have to do," John paused once again, "You need me to help you take out those two and then you and me can fight it out, no guns. I've already made one person a no guns promise that I held, and I'm willing to hold to it again."

The commotion back at the tower was still ongoing and made John realize that he had to work fast. John took some slow steps towards Lulu, lowering his pistol as he did so.

"We wait and see who kills who in their fight, take out the survivor, then fight it out ourselves. If you want to avenge the death of your best friend and take your best chance at getting off this island then you'll say yes. If that isn't acceptable, then talk to me right now. Say no. I'll put my gun back up and let you go running back to Lenny and you can try and beat the other two yourself."

John kept his hand ready on his pistol as he awaited Lulu's reply.

Lulu took a deep, ragged breath as John stepped into her line of sight. He was aiming his gun at her, and she quickly took a step back and disappeared from behind the aircraft. She was thinking that now was perhaps a good time to take out Madison's machine gun. She wasn't sure if she could bring herself to wield it for long, but she could try to scare John with it. Then again, he was one of the top killers on the island. Why would he be afraid of a skinny little girl wielding a big gun that she probably couldn't use well?

In the end, she decided to let the gun stay hidden in her bag and keep a watchful eye for John. Everything could be over in a matter of seconds. Her opponent could dart out from behind the plane and shoot her right between the eyes. At this thought, Lulu kept herself ready to take a few more steps back just in case. As she waited in anticipation, she could hear gunshots from somewhere behind her. Lenny... Although she wanted nothing more than to run back to her companion, a little voice inside her commanded her to stay put. She had already told herself that she'd stay and deal with John herself. She had to.

Luckily, the next thing that came wasn't in the form of an attack. John began to speak to Lulu in a rational sort of way. He even called her Lu-bear which was... nice, to say the least. It almost made this guy seem kind and human. But really, who was to say what Riz was anymore? This was the first time that she had met with the guy on the island, and he could be a changed guy. But here he was, asking Lulu questions and giving her something to think about... He even knew about Anna, a fact that made her skin crawl.

...What if John was right? In a way, he sort of had a point. Why in the world should she team up with the boy that killed her best friend on this island? It didn't make a lick of sense to anyone but Lulu herself. And maybe Anna wouldn't have wanted Lulu to team up with Lenny, but who cares? Anna was dead. She died a terrible death, but so did Elizabeth! Lulu wanted to shout and explain to John what had happened... She took a short step forward so that she could see John and opened her mouth to speak. Right as she did, John began to talk once again, and Lulu promptly shut her mouth.

She listened very carefully as John spoke and just as before, he gave her a lot to think about. And not in the casual sort of pondering way... It made her head swim with thoughts. She wanted to run and hide her head underneath her pillow. She wanted to be anywhere in the world but here with such a terrible decision to make! How could John say such things and propose such agreements? Lulu couldn't figure out her course of action... But she wouldn't let John make Lenny out as the bad guy, and Lulu would never kill her companion, ever. She would have to stay true to herself.

As John took a few steps towards Lulu, the girl swallowed hard and took a large step back, nearly stumbling over her own legs. "Y-..You don't understand!" she yelled, unintentionally sounding a lot more harsh than she wanted to. "Lenny isn't as bad as you think he is... He's just under... pressure..." she said slowly, staring down at the grass. "You probably don't know that Anna killed Lenny's twin sister! How would you react in that situation? And I know what you're thinking! The announcements never said anything about Elizabeth dying by Anna's hands. Elizabeth was finished off by someone else, but Anna definitely contributed to that innocent girl's death. If that guy hadn't of killed her, Liz would have eventually died regardless, and the blood would have been on Anna's hands.

"But it was a terrible situation, okay? I'm not blaming anybody... I don't think any less of Anna, she's still my friend. But I think about Lenny too, and I think he must probably be sad and frustrated, but I don't think he's dangerous! Once we paired up, he's been so nice!" Lulu had her hands clasped tightly in front of her, and she was explaining everything to John with as much force as she could muster. She wasn't entirely sure why she was spending so much energy explaining such a trivial thing... Why did it matter now? John was never going to convince her to attack her friend. It was preposterous! As an afterthought, Lulu added, "I'm not going kill Lenny or help kill Lenny, alright? I... I can't."

Lulu stared down at the ground beneath her and realized that she was going to have to give John a definite answer. Fight John or run back to Lenny? Help Lenny kill Trish or duke it out with John? She felt entirely conflicted; her mind was split in two. "Uhhh..." she mumbled, nervously shifting her feet. "Wait and see who kills who? It sounds so vile. What if Lenny is the one that's killed? How would I deal with that? ...But what if Lenny is the one that survives? Under John's deal, I would have to fight him... I don't know. But I do know one thing. I met with John here for a reason. I'm fated to butt out of Lenny's situation... He should fight his battles, and I should fight my battles... Geez. Regardless of what happens, only one person can survive. And if I sit around and try to make friendly with everyone and no one dies... We'll all die. Only one person comes out on top, so maybe I should just try with John... It's the only chance I have."

Lulu's lips were pulled into a tight line as she examined John's face. With a deep sigh, she glanced back at the fighting behind her and said, "...Alright. But just understand that I'm not fighting Lenny. No way, no how. He's my friend... Honestly, John! I don't even want to fight you! Why do we have to do this?!" she yelled out, burying her head into her small hands. "I don't want to fight anyone... I don't." Lulu didn't even want to think about fighting John. No guns? John must be pretty good with fighting without guns if he was here to tell Lulu about his promise. That must mean he won that fight... Lulu wouldn't have a chance! She couldn't punch or kick or anyone. She would just end up hurting herself... Letting out a low groan, she lifted her head and frowned at John. The urge to try and befriend him was overwhelming, but she was resisting it. Why try to make friends with a guy in the final four? There was no use.

"I'm not running back to Lenny. I'm staying here. But... I'm not happy about it. I hate all this fighting talk..."
