Archangel

A long, swinging bridge that crosses a deep ravine heading into the uninhabited part of the island. The bridge sways eerily in the wind and the fall into the ravine below almost certainly spells doom for anyone who happens to lose their balance or step too close to the edge.

((Continued from Violence))

The depiction of blood in most films and television shows, for the most part, varies. Sometimes, it is thick, and viscous. Other times, it runs like water. Gabriel couldn't decide which was more accurate, as he shook remaining drops off of himself. Content that he'd gotten far enough away from Christian, Will, and any other person out to get him at the moment, Gabriel reached a narrow, rickety bridge crossing a large ravine; there, he stopped. Gabriel himself had awoken inside an open grave, and only due to his height was able to get out of it quickly. From the moment he'd 'set foot' on the island, he had been covered in dirt and blood. Jason's punches still stung considerably, though he was happy that he'd disemboweled the unholy nerd/jock hybrid, and was over-and-done with him. Unfortunately, this led to the cold, blood soaked clothes that Gabriel now peeled off of himself. Taking care not to be snuck upon, he unzipped his duffel bag, and pulled from it one of the shirts he'd hastily packed onto the 'trip.' It was black, and snug, highlighting Gabriel's muscles well. He doubted it would protect him well, but it was mobile. He doubted there would be a shortage of guns on the island, and nothing he had would stop bullets. Unless he was quite fast with the sword he recently... 'aquired.'

Looking down at his pants, he realized they were quite dirty as well. He changed those, and put them with the other, soaked clothes. "Now, don't murder anyone else quite that gruesomely Gabriel, I don't want to be washing your clothes all over again... and this tear! That darn Jason Foley..." Gabriel mocked his mother jokingly, but realized he was being quite loud, and lowered his voice. Once he was changed out of the cold, torn, bloodied clothes, he tossed them into the ravine. He wouldn't be needing those anymore. He nonchalantly stuffed Jason's heart into a sock for safe-keeping, and placed it into the bag. It was stuck for a moment, but zipped up easily. Gabriel tied the sheath of the sword onto his belt-loops, and placed the sword within. "Ready to go then." He muttered under his breath, staring at the chasm below the bridge.

"Surely it's still stable, I mean..." No comfort arose within Gabriel's mind. The bridge was going to break. And he'd be damned if he was going to go down that way. Quickly scanning for ways to get to the other side, he could find no route that didn't force him to go through the jungles or any other trap-laden areas. "Err...Uhh... Goddamnit!"
He may not have been afraid of much within his lifetime, but one of his biggest, most strange fears were of bridges. Rickety bridges, the kind one would see in Bond films or cheesy action movies. The kind of bridge Indiana Jones would be seen running for his life across. This one almost fit that description, but the boards one would walk on were... farther... apart.

He recoiled in fear as he thought of walking slowly across, and then falling sharply, off of the bridge. It might support a regularly sized person, but it would not support the 6'11 Gabriel Theobaldt. Whimpering, he walked back, leaning against a nearby tree...

How the fuck do I get across this thing?

"...a hockey mask?"

"..."

"..A hockey mask?"

Brad Kavanagh (B14) repeated that single, solumn name in his mind, incapable of actually getting a firm grasp of the state of affairs. The situation being... his weapon. From what anyone else could tell, Brad wasn't exactly keeping his cool. In fact, it appeared as though he was breaking down. "Of all the fucking things they could have given me, it turned out to be a Hockey Mask? Jesus Christ."

He stared at the mask with a grim face, his hand slowly beginning to clamp both of the folded sides inwards. His open hand folded into a fist. There were some points in Brad's tiny existence that he wishes he could beat the ever-loving shit out of someone. Right then he didn't care if it was Danya, a terrorist or whoever. Brad's frustrations were at their peak, and he wasn't really sure what the hell he was going to do. His hand flicked the mask on the earth violently, letting out a grunt of annoyance, aggravation and desperation. His fist slammed itself into the side of his head, shutting his eyes tight.

"God Damn it! They should have just given me a goddamned noose! At least that's useful; at least I could do something with that! I'd rather hang myself than defend myself with a hockey mask! Jesus Mother Fucking Christ!" Brad's head hung low, his eyes staring down at the ground. With a loud moan he picked up the mask (now slightly dirtied from the soil), brushing it off with his hand. Taking the Velcro strap in hand Brad tied the mask around his neck. "Well... I guess it isn't that bad. At least I didn't get a porno mag. I... guess this could shield my face. Besides... it's better than nothing."

Brad really wanted to find someone that he knew. He didn't even care if it was Gabe or anyone else. Being alone in this game was starting to make the boy slightly paranoid, not to mention the fact that he would most likely get shot down the minute he'd walk into a maniac with a gun. Optimism was about the only thing Brad had left, even if it was forced. Hell, it was powerful enough that it forced Brad to get up on his feet instead of just leaving him to lay in a ditch. Like a sitting duck. No, the odds might not be on Brad's side, but if there was one thing that he did know... Brad wasn't the one to give up easily. He was a stubborn son-of-a-bitch, and that was the only advantage that Brad had.

The first thing he came upon was a ravine that seemed right at home in the surroundings. Brad cautiously looked over the side, shuddering violently at the height of the fall. Jesus Christ. It certainly didn't help matters that the only way across the ravine was to jump across a rickety bridge. A bridge that was pulled straight out of the three Indiana Jones movies. Brad would have mused that it was ironic that there happened to be a swinging bridge in the middle of an abandoned tropical island, but he tried his best not to even mention the whole deal to begin with. The hockey mask slowly slid down, covering his face. He didn't feel he should bother moving it. He really didn't care at that point. "Well... I really don't want to go wandering aimlessly into the jungle, but when I stop to think about it... I don't think this bridge could support me. Could it? How the hell should I know..."

Her lips trembled. Her body quaked. Her mind was racked with a fear and panic that she had never felt before in her entire life. For Terrie Brightwell (Female Student no. 16), the nightmare had started barely an hour ago when she had groggily woken up to find herself surrounded by grass with the sounds of running water ringing through her ears. At first the babbling noise was relaxing and peaceful, but an instant later, the horror surrounding her would-be senior trip replayed in her mind and a horrified Terrie shot straight up and barely managed to surpress the scream that threatened to erupt from her lips. Her almost immediate reaction was to curl up into a fetal position and try to fight back the tears that danced down her cheeks, but the tears quickly found themselves fading away when something else caught her eye.

Tyson Neills. Bobby Jacks. There was the standoff, the gun, and the bloody aftermath that followed their initial run-in. All the while, Terrie looked on in horror and tried desperately to remain hidden in the foliage. She prayed to God that they wouldn't see her. Luckily for Terrie, fortune had favored her during that moment and Bobby had walked the opposite direction of her, completely unaware of her presence. As soon as she thought she was alone, she had gathered up her belongings and taken off running as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn't know what she was running toward, or where she was running away from, but the only logical conclusion she could come to was to keep running. She ran and ran, and only stopped when she nearly ran right into the ravine.

She had since calmed herself down somewhat, although she was still visibly trembling. She could barely even begin to recollect the events on the bus or in the room. She remembered the horrible video of that girl killing her companion in his sleep, and she vaguely remembered the harsh words that Danya had said with such delightful glee, but everything else was covered in a thick haze. All she knew was that she was somewhere on an island with all of her classmates, except... the circumstances surrounding this island were so much different from what would have happened on the camping trip. From what she had been told, she was supposed to fish whatever "weapon" they had happened to give her out of her daypack and proceed to slaughter every single classmate on the island with it.

"I can't..." Terrie choked out audibly through sobs, "I can't do it..."

It has to be a dream... please, God, let me be dreaming.

The dull throbbing in her side from the run she had just endured reminded her otherwise, and Terrie fought back the tears that were brimming up in her eyes again. She continued to walk along the edge of the ravine, not too close for fear of falling in, but close enough that she could see down into the dark crevace in the earth and could barely make out the features on the other side of the crack through the early morning rays. Perhaps she should have been watching in front of her a little more closely, though. Something alarmingly close caught Terrie's eye, and she let out a loud gasp when she caught sight of another student standing a few feet away from her. She couldn't make out who it was through the mask he was wearing, but that mask alone made him seem rather ominous.

She ducked down behind a small rock formation, absolutely sure that the other student had heard her and scared out of her wits for her life. She hadn't even taken the time to search her pack and pull out her weapon, because to her, picking up the weapon was almost like agreeing to play the game. She hoped that the boy had been issued that mask as a weapon and that he wouldn't pull out a submachine gun and turn her inside out with it, but not knowing caused a horrified sensation to rack her entire body. Of course, this sensation would have been amplified ten fold if she had seen the goliath figure of Gabriel Theobaldt standing on the other side of the bridge.

When he was re-arrainging his pack, he hadn't seen the figure on the other side of the bridge. It's face wasn't visible beneath the hockey mask, and Gabriel's initial thoughts were of Blood Boy, but the figure on the other side of the bridge wasn't wearing BB's typical smiley-faced mask, nor was he as freakishly thin. Noticing the figure's clear distrust of the bridge, Gabriel decided he would speak up. Not as the fake, cheery personality he'd put on the past year or so, but the true, cynical, manipulative, and of course, compasionless, Gabriel Theobaldt.

"I wouldn't cross that bridge if I were you..." He said dryly, but still loud enough to be heard on the other side. "The bridge seems REALLY unstable, I dunno if you noticed, i'm a bit of a big guy, but I want to get to the other side. I doubt it'd hold one person, let alone myself." Smiling, he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword. "Plus, I'd kill you if I had the chance to, so you probably won't want to come on this side either. I'm feeling a bit antsy after being captured and thrown on an island, and i've already killed a guy to get this sword. Now, i'm probably saying too much, as i've really got a penchant for making enemies. But hey, unless you can pull a gun out of your ass, I doubt you can hurt me."

Finishing his sentence with nearly as much of a happy demeanor as he'd had when he went and tore out Jason Foley's insides. Gabriel's time on the island had been... for the most part, fun. He was probably one of the only people to see it this way, but despite the hardships, it seemed to be a 'vacation.' Gabriel could finally be.... Gabriel... without any of the arbitrary impositions of morals, society... anything. Though the thought of losing his own life did pang within his mind for a moment, Gabriel decided the best thing to do at that moment would be to keep up as much of a positive attitude as the nearly demonic sociopath could.

The beast attempted to take a step on one of the wooden planks, his eyes still locked onto the other boy at the end of the bridge. After hearing a small creaking noise, he almost lept off of the bridge. He turned his gaze back towards the masked boy at the end of the bridge, and saw a girl quickly poke her head down, behind a rock. Smiling eerily, Gabriel spoke up once more.

"This honestly isn't a ploy to get you to turn around... there's a girl hiding behind a rock close by you, I couldn't really tell much about her, but you should be careful, she could be playing the game, and you don't have a old, rickety bridge between her and yourself." Smirking, Gabriel muttered something under his breath about how lucky the other boy was that he hadn't found a way over there yet, and continued testing the plank on his end of the bridge, carefully watching his surroundings.

Brad murmured under his breath, the plastic mask starting to make his face itch. He really didn't see much reason about moving it, since it wasn't that much of a bother other than a painful itch. He raised himself up to his feet, his knees cracking loud as he got up. A voice sounded from his right side, making him turn his head. This was where the mask was a bother: It pushed his glasses down and since he was short-sighted, the figure out in the distance only appeared as a fuzzy blob. He pushed the mask up over his face, pushing his glasses up his nose He grunted loudly, squinting his eyes over at the towering giant at the other side of the bridge. Gabriel was the sort of person that Brad would be intimidated by. Then again, Brad was the sort of person who would blab his mouth out to his heart's content.

"Hey," He called out loudly, "thanks for the advice pal, but I really don't..." He glared at the boy opposite of him. Frozen in fear. Did he... really kill someone? Brad shook his head, trying to clear his mind. He was certainly scared, but he was trying his best not to show it. Don't let this bastard get to you. He's probably bluffing. "Listen pal. I don't really care what your kill count says. To me you're nothing but a tall guy with a sword. That's all you are to me."

He smirked. Brad was also the kind of person that was an ass to those who weren't exactly friendly to him. Maybe this was why so many people held resentment against him. He knew subconsciously that his attitude was going to get him killed one day, which was perfect because he was going to end up keeling over dead anyway. This was a game of life and death, and with his only form of protection being a hockey mask, there didn't seem like there was much to live for. He really had nothing else to lose but his life. Literally. He straightened out his mask, laying it flat on his forehead, shooting the boy another grimace.

"Yeah yeah... you're the one with the sword, and I'm the one with a mask. I don't care either way."

Brad had heard some rustling from behind him, along with a gasp. He really didn't put much thought into the idea that there was someone actually sneaking up to him and just chalked it up as a rare gust of wind. Now the boy that was having trouble crossing the creaking bridge had confirmed that there was indeed someone right behind him. There was reason to doubt him due to his first impression having a bad aftertaste, but he really did seem brutally honest. He seemed like the kind of guy who'd kill you in a second but would never lie about it. Tempting his own curiosity, Brad's head turned to face the rock placed several meters away. He gulped softly. Thinking that if there WAS someone there waiting to kill him, he studied the sides of the rock just to see if anything jumped out at him.

"Who's back there?" he called loudly, making sure to turn his gaze back to the tall boy, just to make sure HE didn't try anything funny.

Oh no... no, no, no!

It wasn't the figure in the hockey mask that Terrie had to fear, it seemed, but rather the mammoth on the other side of the bridge. She had ducked away from her nearby classmate out of pure fear, and had been completely frozen in terror since she ducked behind the rock formation. Her eyes closed tightly, waiting for the end that she was sure was about to come, and that was when she heard it... the voice that belowed out across the ravine, informing whoever the nearby contestant was that she was hiding behind the rock formation.

Tears started streaming down her cheeks once again as she began panicking. What was she supposed to do? The dufflebag sitting right beside her almost seemed to beckon to her, calling her name and telling her to take a peek inside and see what sort of goodies it had to offer. Terrie simply couldn't bring herself to unzip the bag though, even though whatever lie inside might save her life.

If I open the bag... it means I'm playing for real... and... I just... I can't.

She almost began hyperventilating when the tall figure nearby called out, demanding to know who was hiding behind the rocks. Part of her wanted to ignore him and remain hidden. Maybe if she did that, he'd think the boy across the ravine was lying and leave her be... but what if he didn't? What if he got up the nerve to come behind the rocks and check when he didn't get a response? He'd spot her dead-on, and whether he was armed or not, he looked like he could destroy someone as petite as she was.

"I..." Terrie stammered out, trying to control the quiver in her voice and failing miserably, "I'm not... I can't..."

Her voice fell to almost a whisper. The fear-induced panic that had completely overtaken her body prevented her from speaking normally and caused her entire body to tremble violently. Terrie cursed herself inwardly for her reaction, but she couldn't make it stop. Her body was practically acting of its own accord.

"I don't wanna play..." she choked out quietly, somehow managing to rise to her feet and hold her arms up in the air before semi-stepping out from behind the rock to look at the masked figure, "Please... please don't..."

The words exchanged between this boy and the other had almost guaranteed her that the student standing in front of her didn't have any other weapon besides the mask covering his face, but it didn't make Terrie any less nervous or spooked. The figure looming in the distance, slowly attempting to cross the old bridge that was waving to and fro in the air put her even more on edge, and her hazel eyes darted back and forth between the student standing a few feet away and the one slowly trying to cross the ravine.

She almost felt like she should warn her classmate that the tall guy -- she thought his name was Theo or something, but she didn't really know -- was trying to cross the rope bridge, but she had all but lost her voice and nothing seemed to come from her vocal pipes except for a light squeak. Instead, Terrie simply pointed toward the rope bridge, still keeping her arms raised above her head to show that she meant no harm whatsoever.

((Simon continued from Nothing Left to Say But goodbye))

As Simon moved on through the humid surroundings, he grew increasingly more anxious. Trees were all around him, the little dazzler wasn't exactly going to deter a lunatic with a gun from riddling him full of holes. Much as he would have liked to believe that nobody in his class would ever have dreamed of killing one of the others, Simon simply could not deny the evidence of his own ears. There had been gunshots, and that was all he needed to know - somebody out there, even if it was only one person, was up for actively participating, and that scared Simon in many ways.

The sole cigarrette Simon had on him was dangling from his mouth, still unlit, more as a comforter than anything else. Although it wasn't quite the same as actually smoking, it was really the best Simon could do right now. The humidity was causing his glasses to steam up occasionally, which was irritating, as he either had to suffer clouded vision or take some time to wipe them off, a task that was made all the more difficult for the lack of two hands.

Simon eventually arrived at a distinctive area, a ravine, bridged by a flimsy looking structure. However, it wasn't the surroundings, but the people already there that interested Simon. Closest to him, crouched behind a nearby cluster of rocks was a small girl Simon vaguely recognised. Terrie Brightwell was part of the more popular crowd, which most certainly did not include Simon. It seemed as if the pressure was getting to her - it looked as if she was in tears.

The next wasn't immediately apparent, as he was both masked and facing away from Simon. He was just finishing speaking as Simon got there though, he knew the voice, but couldn't exactly place it. However, the third and final classmate, at the other end of the rope bridge, was entirely unmistakable. Not many people in the grade were that big, and Gabriel Theobaldt had a very distinctive appearence. Seeing the giant trying to make his way across the bridge, a sword in his hands, Simon felt distinctly ill at ease.

Simon couldn't just stand there though, hoping he wasn't making a big mistake, he cleared his throat and spoke.

"Hey uh, it's Simon, Simon Wood. I dunno if you guys feel the same way, but this situation doesn't exactly thrill me. Um..." Simon trailed off, not entirely sure of how to continue. He would have liked to form a group, but wasn't sure how to phrase it without sounding like he wanted to be deceptive.

The sheathed sword only nudged at his side as Gabriel continued to cautiously make his way across the bridge. It was the only way across, and he figured he may have a chance if he kept a firm hold on the ropes at the side of the bridge. As old as they were, they could still support him if the planks fell from under his feet. Yet another student had entered the group at the other side, and the situation carried the same aura of precariousness that the old, rotting bridge did. It creaked under Gabriel's feet as he sped up his pace, not wanting to stay on the bridge any longer. Invitably, there was a missing plank in the bridge, and Gabriel stood, swinging in the center of the bridge, thinking of what to do next. The closest plank had a weird brown mark on the center which looked like it was rotting apart. But, he was this far, and he didn't have much of a choice. All it would take is one clumsy step, and he'd go careening into the mess of trees, bushes, and water below.

Taking the cliche Leap Of Faith, he landed with an unsettling thud on the far plank, and this was proceeded with a series of cracking noises. Beginning to truly panic for the first time in his life, Gabriel strode as fast as his legs would take him, across the bridge, landing with a more secure thud than he had before. Pain shot up his leg, and he realized how fast he had actually been moving across the bridge. The sword was slightly out of it's sheath, and Gabriel pushed it all the way back in again. Finally, he was on the other side.

He stared at the others with a look of satisfaction on his face. However, it disappeared as he realized his sprint across the latter half of the bridge had broken many of the boards, and it was now only useful if one were to climb across the ropes holding it up, which were in horrible condition. Hastily, he turned back to face the others again. If there's one thing I am sure that I am good at, it's instilling fear and horrible thoughts among people. It worked on Jason, though the Sword helped.

"Alright. I realize two of you just declared that you're not playing, and mask-boy over here, I take it, isn't either, or he'd have tried to knock me off that bridge like a smart person. If you haven't guessed, Piglet and Cancer-Man, i'm playing this game. I've already murdered someone. Oh don't look so shocked, it was fun!"

Laughing giddily under his breath, Gabriel opened his pack and pulled out a small object. It was cold, but no longer as damp as it was before. And you thought of eating the dreadful thing... Why do you even keep it with you? Some trophy? Why not take his skull, or even his whole damn head? It felt almost like a sponge in his massive hand. "I think you may know Jason Foley, or know of him. Removal of his heart, held in my hand right now, resulted in his death, in addition to his other vital organs tearing from his torso when I reached inside and ripped his heart from his chest. It was quite empowering, really."

The heart bled once more as the final droplets of blood dripped from it, down to the ground, and covering Gabriel's hand. His intense eyes had a look of insane happiness about them, and looking at him... well... he looked quite pleased with himself.

It became very apparent that there had to be someone behind the rock that he was staring down at. There had to be. If it wasn't obvious from a figure shaking from behind the boulder, then the murmurs that seemed to call out to Brad was even more of an indication. A slow, melting fear began to envelope his body. What... what the hell could he be doing back there? he thought to himself, drawing his focus away from the giant that was traversing the wooden bridge just behind him. Brad was getting the temptation to actually walk behind the rock so as to get a look himself, but he knew that was just walking into a trap. Brad was stubborn but he wasn't stupid by any means of the word.

Then... whoever it was rose to her feet. Even in the darkness of night Brad knew in the back of his mind that she, whoever she happened to be, was stricken by pure fear and fear alone. Her cheeks were tear-covered, her whole body shaking and pulsating violently. It was a sign enough that she was scared out of her wits. From what Brad wasn't sure (although he could make a guess as to what), but she was terrified, even more so than Brad could ever contest. She had a small body too, as if someone could break it in half completely. Maybe that was why she seemed so scared.

Slowly Brad slipped the mask off of his head, as if he figured that it had something to do with it. He gave her a solemn frown, trying his best not to sound intimidating, which was the impression that he always seemed to give off to people. "Don't worry," the boy tried to reassure her, in an attempt to calm her down by just a bit. "There's nothing to worry about. Just calm down. Calm down... I'm not going to hurt you..."

Her hand was outstretched as if it were an attempt to alert him of something, but he didn't look back. "Oh. Are you... afraid of that guy? Heh." His gaze turned to the giant that was traversing the bridge, then back over to the sobbing woman with a reassuring (despite being forced) smile. "Don't worry about him. I bet he's just bullshitting us about killing someone. I mean, if HE HAD killed someone with that sword, there'd be blood all over him." Brad couldn't have been worse in his observation.

There was another boy standing some feet away who had cleared his throat in a vain attempt to get someone to listen, but the booming voice from the tall figure was enough to occupy Brad's attention. Piglet and Cancer-Man? He knew who he meant by Piglet, but by Cancer-Man did he mean Brad? This was also the point that he revealed a name: Jason Foley. Jason Foley was the nice guy of Southridge, the only person outside of Brad's circle of friends that he got along with. And he was dead? That seemed completely unreal, but the mere mentioning of a name made the offense all the more real. Apart from the heart.

The heart. At first it didn't look like a heart. Until the boy told him it was a heart. Brad felt sick to his stomach, but he tried to play it off.

His eyes squinted as though he had no fear inside him whatsoever. "You're name's Gabriel, right?" Brad questioned, his voice as emotionless as a rock, other than the obvious disgusted reaction. "Now I don't know you personally but... I do know that you..." he paused. " empowering? What the fuck does pulling a heart out and keeping it a souvenir constitute as empowering? Not to mention that you do this to Jason of all people.... what the fuck is wrong with you?!!"

The sudden appearance of Simon Wood from seemingly out of nowhere -- although in actuality he had simply emerged from right along the same path she'd been treading earlier -- startled Terrie, and she managed to muffle the scream that almost erupted out of her mouth. Much to her surprise, the mask-wearing kid she had mentally dubbed "Jason" turned to her and made some vain attempt to calm her down. When he removed his mask, she stopped listening to what he was saying, instead focusing on his face. She knew good and well that she had seen him at school before but... who was he, again?

Finally, Terrie put two and two together and placed a name with the face looking at her, although she immediately wished she hadn't. Brad Kavanagh. She didn't know Brad, but she knew of Brad, and the things she knew about Brad weren't good ones. For starters, he had spent quite a while in jail, from what she understood, for being convicted of murder or something crazy like that, but they'd supposedly proven his innocence or something to that effect. Either way, they had to have convicted him originally for a reason, and that fact didn't exactly put Terrie at ease.

Simon's words sounded almost too good to be true. He didn't have to say what he was thinking for her to pick up on it. The situation wasn't good in the slightest, and that meant that they should probably bail, and fast. The fact that Gabriel Theobaldt was suddenly sprinting across the swinging bridge was almost enough to make Terrie sprint away from the area. Or at least, it would have been, if she hadn't felt like she had cement shoes glued to her feet.

"Uh..." Terrie sputtered out, her hazel eyes moving slowly back and forth between Brad and Simon, "Maybe we should... like..."

She didn't have time to finish her sentence as Gabriel began his stereotpyical evil villain-style schpeil about how he had already killed someone. He had said it once before, and although the fact didn't seem to phase Brad all that much, it had made Terrie's heart leap up into her throat. The blonde would have taken offense to the fact that he'd had the nerve to call her Piglet and would have probably retaliated by calling him Sasquatch or something like that, but she was far too terrified to provoke him.

It was around that time that Gabriel revealed the human heart he'd been carrying around, and at that moment, Terrie had to force the bile back into her throat lest it come spewing out of her mouth. If she hadn't been intimidated by the rather large figure standing not-so-far away from them before, that had been the straw that broke the camel's back. When he mentioned Jason Foley's name, Terrie felt her stomach sink. Jason had always been such a nice guy. She couldn't even begin to fathom why anyone would want to hurt him, let alone kill him.

Jason... you poor thing.

Brad was already shouting back at Gabriel, although he didn't seem phased by the fact that Gabriel had literally sliced Jason's heart out of his chest at all. That scared Terrie somewhat, but she figured that her chances behind Brad and Simon were probably a lot better than her chances with Gabriel. It took her several moments, but she finally found the voice she seemed to have lost so long ago. Hesitantly, she spoke up, finding her voice a bit raspy for a moment from not having been used as she did so.

"Why would you do something like that?" she inquired quietly, "Jason was... a nice guy. He never did anything to hurt anybody, especially not you, so... so why would you kill him? Why?"

Frantic questions flew at Gabriel, and he was just not in the mood to be answering them. Looking longingly at his trophy, he decided it may have been too much of a problem to keep around. Why? Because you might try and eat it, you sick fuck? Angrily, he tossed the heart down into the ravine he had so desperately tried to clamber across. He stayed calm, closing his daypack without making a sudden move. It was considerably lighter since he'd removed anything he didn't need; all it would do was weigh him down. Despite his demeanor, he wasn't feeling calm. Not at all. He felt almost as he had when he'd ripped apart Jason. His hand shook, wanting to reach for the sword and dismember the two standing in front of him. Not yet.

"Why would I kill him? What the fuck is wrong with me? There's nothing wrong with me. I'm only trying to remove the competition, and maybe enjoy myself while i'm at it. I didn't know Jason well. It's too bad he was a nice guy. And judging from the cross around his neck, at least he thought he was going to heaven. I hope he did, I made his existance a living hell before his heart finally gave out, in a manner of speaking."

Talking to these two, and explaining himself, calmed his nerves somewhat. The grip he had on the sword's handle relaxed. The tone of his voice still carried with it enough intensity and evil to make anyone who had the misfortune of being near him want to back away. Gabriel himself had begun to slow his thoughts down, and the only thing that truly occupied his mind were the words he was about to utter, and how he was going to decapitate the masked boy in front of him. Gabriel finally decided this would be the best course of action. He didn't want to waste any more time. As he spoke, the sword already began to rise from it's dark sheath.

"I believe i've explained myself enough. Now, personally, i'm not religious, but having the name of God's messenger, and getting my hands on this gleaming sword at the start of the game... makes one think, doesn't it? But you won't be thinking much longer, I promise you!"

The tone of his voice offered no warning, except for that last statement, in which the playful tone not unlike Danya's disappeaed into a voice which reflected Gabriel's cruel, unloving nature. In a second, Gabriel had removed the sword from it's sheath attached to his belt, and finally the sword was able to fly freely through the air, as a weapon, not some twisted surgical instrument. Gracefully, but brutally, he began to slash at the other two, indiscriminately trying to harm one of them enough to remove some body part or section of flesh.

Oh, how he longed once more for that beautiful red liquid to spew forth from his opponents. How he longed to once more, cry with glee as they suffered, and he stood over them, watching their pain, and laughing in the face of any of those who said he was too cruel, or too cold-hearted. But he knew that number would be minor compared to the people who responded with apathy in America. Most people would watch the show, say 'that's horrible' and then go back to eating their TV Dinners, ignorant of the horrible agony that the participants experienced.

Enjoy the show, America.

Brad saw exactly what was coming. He could have stopped it, but his mind wasn't running as it should and lagged behind. Gabriel had taken the opportunity of false safety for his advantage. In all honesty, Brad kind of imagined that the monstrous bastard using that sword again, but again he didn't think so quickly. Instead he did the next best thing. It wasn't the best idea, but somethings called for stupid ideas, and this was such a time. Hell, it could end up killing him. There was one lesson that jail had taught him about fights, it was that the best position someone had was with their left foot outward. For balancing purposes, as Brad had come to learn after his first fight. This was of course no exception, but Brad had taken the liberty of stand close to the trembling girl, so much so that he was directly in front of her.

The tip of the sword had dashed across his chest, ripping not only his shirt but a visible wound as well. A long deep cut that sent violent shocks of pain through his whole body. Brad gasped loudly, forcing his eyes open as the blade flew away. He had noticed one glaring detail during the time he had been studying Gabriel from afar: he had a limp. A limp from what, he wasn't exactly sure, but it was a limp nonetheless. Knowing that there was a small chance that the other boy would be able to dodge it, Brad slid back over to the right side. Lifting his right leg up as far as he could, he sent it flying...

...directly towards the back of Gabriel's right knee. His battered knee. Violently. Viciously. As hard as he could, and as fast as he could.

"We need to get the hell out of here!" Brad cried out, the pain from the newly inflicted wound still sending wave after wave of indescribable suffering. His left leg shook under the boy's weight but he kept his own balance. The statement was meant for the girl, trying to tell her everything that such a short time couldn't allow him to say: This place was dangerous. They had to leave as fast as they could, before this maniac diced them up like lettuce.

((Continued from Pomme de Terre))

As the first of Gabriel's slashes began to frenzy towards the shell-shocked and unexpecting teenagers, a fifth person pushed out of the bushes and nearly walked into the line of fire. Or...swordplay, for that matter. Adam Dodd had been thinking of about three things at once, none of which were becoming the literal translation of what would happen if a human being jumped into an enormous food processor. In fact, one might surmised from the absolutely shocked expression on the man's face that it was the last thing he'd been expecting as he pushed out of the bushes.

---

The big thing that Adam had been thinking about while walking through the jungle had been how lucky he'd managed to be to escape from the obviously-playing Paul Smith. It had been a near-fucking-miracle that he'd managed to get away, and he had only JUST.

Thank God for whoever made flourescent light tubes, and thought that whatever military was once here would need 'em! FUCK! I've got to find something better than a lightbulb to protect myself with...

The second thing that was on the mind of Adam Dodd was the only person in all of Southridge that actually meant anything to him. It was basically Adam's fault that he'd made very few friends while at the school, but his psychologist had described him as 'damaged goods' in one of their lighter sessions. It was true, Adam had some pretty severe emotional issues stemming from; what else - Survival of the Fittest, and thanks to the absolute decimation of all of his friends in the game, he had a really hard time trusting people and building relationships again. That, of course, had all changed that one day underneath the bleachers. Meeting Izzy Cheung had been something of a breath of fresh air, and in meeting someone who cared very little about what had happened to him in the past, and talked to him without...that stare...? It was huge. And there was something about the girl...something that reminded him about Amanda...he supposed it was the multicoloured hair that started it, but...as she'd forced him to come back to her place and play Guitar Hero with her, he'd finally taken the first step towards trusting someone again.

So it was only natural that Adam Dodd, formerly the nice guy of Barry Coleson High School, presently "THAT guy" of Southridge High School, was worried sick about Izzy. He knew full well what could happen to people in these circumstances, both emotionally and physically. Some people lost their minds, and others ended up dead.

Usually, the second one had a whole hell of a lot to do with the first...

Izzy was a strong person, though. Very mentally disciplined, and the kind of person who wouldn't just lie down and give up. He'd figured that his big goal would be to find her, as fast as he possibly could.

Danya and the folks watching at home must be thinking "for fuck's sakes, Dodd! How monotonous! Adam's on the island, and he's looking for a girl...again...

But this time was different. Before, things had been very ... unrequieted, but emotional between him and Amanda. The hurt had faded slightly over time, but it wasn't just her that he mourned, it was Hawley, Madelaine, David, Andrew...those who'd become and were his close friends, whom he trusted. With Izzy, it was...different, somehow. She was his friend, for sure...

"...but is that all? I...I don't know..."

Things were definitely becoming emotionally ambiguous between the two of them, and of course now, they'd never know just what the hell was going on.

The final thing on his mind was the aformentioned thought of finding a better weapon. While he thought of himself as a fairly resourceful son of a bitch, flourescent light tubes were not his idea of a powerful defense mechanism. Not to mention the fact that he only had eight left, after he'd shattered one over the chest of Paul Smith.

Man, I REALLY hope I don't run into that fuckin' guy anytime soon...

---

But as he'd wandered out of the jungle bushes absentmindedly watching for anyone, the look of shock on his face probably betrayed what most kids had come to know as somewhat of a stoic visage.

"AHH! FUCK!"

Immediately backpedalling, Adam stumbled back a few steps and pulled both of the closest teenagers back by the back of their shirts, tossing them behind him with all of his might. Letting go of the both of them, he instantly reached back and pulled out a light tube.

"GET THE FUCK BACK! ALL OF YOU!"

Again, Adam Dodd found himself in an extremely unenviable position. Standing in front of him was a giant of a teenager, who was wielding a particularily vicious-looking sword. And he only had eight light tubes left. So he resorted to what he usually did when faced with shitty odds and a poor choice of weaponry. Harsh language.

"Hey, ninja-boy! Watch where you wave that shit, you're bound to put someone's eye out! Or..neck off! Or something! Fuck, the rest of you, run for your fucking lives! This guy's obviously not just kidding around!"

Shouting back to the three shocked youths behind him, he took the light tube and swung it at Gabriel's midsection, hoping to hit the boy square in the crotch so he could again escape by the skin of his teeth.

Or...maybe get him to his knees so I can give him a big kick and knock him into that ravine...probably isn't deep enough to kill him, but it'll certainly piss him off something fierce...

Much to Terrie's dismay, the giant standing nearby didn't feel the need to answer her questions. More than anything else, it seemed like the barrage of questions being shot at him between herself and Brad only provoked him into anger, and then he grabbed his sword.

That awful sword... the sword that had killed Jason Foley. Terrie's eyes widened drastically as the huge student came running toward them, blade at the ready. It was at that precise moment that she was secrently wishing she would have checked her bag when she'd had the chance. If she had, perhaps she wouldn't have been so completely helpless.

Much to her surprise, Brad stepped directly in front of her, bearing the brunt of the boy's assault himself. His action didn't stop Terrie from fumbling backward and tripping over her bag and toppling roughly to the ground. She raised herself up from the dirt, subconsciously brushing the grime off of her exposed arms as she sat back up.

Brad yelled toward she and Simon that they needed to get out of there immediately, and she wasn't one to argue. She gathered herself onto her feet again and took off running, simply assuming that the boys would follow in tow.

Stupid. The first word that came to mind as the masked boy showed some degree of fighting skill in putting Gabriel out of comission. Not just waves, but torrents of pain shot up from his knee, causing him to cry out in agony. Sure, the knee brace would protect the front of his leg, but if someone were to be smart enough to get him in the back of it... Gabriel fell like a ton of bricks. The sword nearly escaped his grasp, but he kept a hold on it, sure that if someone were to take advantage of the situation, at least he could defend himself. Gabriel grimaced as he saw the students running away... but they weren't just running, someone had grabbed them, and shoved them off to the side. It was then he saw an odd, white object flying towards his chest.

The object may have sent him off into the ravine, if it had hit him in the chest as it was supposted to. That would've been a painful fall. However, because of the fact that he was already on his knees, Gabriel quickly rolled off to the side, away from the ravine. Trying his best to ignore the throbbing pain in his knee, as he'd done his entire life, Gabriel got up, rising to his more than impressive height; dwarfing this 'hero' who had saved the other two from being sliced and diced.. It was then, he saw what attacker was trying to blugeon him to death with... Lightbulbs? Now he realized who he was. The winner of Survival of the Fittest Version One, the one whose cousin was an unfortunate victim of Version Two. Adam Dodd, the most popular mass-murderer of Southridge High School.

A familiar cracking noise broke the silence between the two, as Gabriel stretched his aching neck, feeling quite annoyed at Adam for ruining his attack on the other two. Though admittedly, he was at fault for not stopping Brad's shot to his knee, but he could deal with him later.

"So... The Hero returns again to save yet another ill-fated group from certain death. You honestly expect them to find a safe place? You know better than anyone that nowhere is safe on this island. Not so long as they have those collars on their necks, and not so long as i'm still alive and kicking. But you'd probably want to interrupt my little tirade right now and make the island just a bit safer. I hate to break this to you, but I don't think your little lightbulbs are going to do you much good when they're all but a pile of broken glass, and i'm still standing here with a sword in my hands."

Gabriel sighed, and stretched his neck once more, sword still at the ready to filet Adam Dodd.

"The point i'm trying to make, Adam, is why even bother? You know how this is going to turn out; probably, some poor sap's going to win, claim they acted in self-preservation, and be as fucked up as you were for the rest of their stupid little life, and we're going to lie dead, here in this little mess we've made. Why even bother saving anyone if you know they're going to die? By my hand, by someone else's... It's a pointless existance here on this island. You can try again and again, and you'll escape death a few times, but it's futile. I'm honestly curious how 'normal' people lure themselves into this false sense of security, think that they're going to be safe with their morals, never to kill another human being, and end up brutally murdering 12 people? Hell, I would kill every last person on this island if I had the chance, I don't care if your little puppy's with you to watch you die; i'd kill that too,

"What is it that stops you from doing the neccessary thing to survive? Why is this idiotic wall of compassion causing you to pull two people from certain death, and only lengthen the amount of time you've got on this island? See, your cousin had it right, he just went too batshit crazy to get anywhere. All he wanted to do was remove any of the little 'obstacles' and just drift out of there. But some prick cut him up, and another prick shot him to death."

His eyes now only focused upon Adam. Those questions he'd asked him he'd been asking his whole life might finally have an answer. Hoping that Dodd wouldn't be stupid enough to run at him, (he'd certainly proven he wasn't) Gabriel lowered the sword, and let it sit by his side.

"Tell me, Adam. You've got the capacity to kill and maim your way through anybody here. You had me fearing for my life for a second there. Why don't you kill us all?"
