((Private thread between Rein Bumgarner and Gary Griffith))

"REEEEEIN!!!"

At first, this idea didn't sound so bad. They both finished Junior High, and some nice bike trip sounded like a really good way to celebrate vacation. What was more, Gary foolishly believed Rein, when he said, he'll give Gary chance to catch up with him.

Oh, how stupid he was to believe him...

Of course, Rein, who loved biking, quickly came before Gary and didn't even check, if his friend is still right behind him. Gareth did what he could, to catch up with the German, but neither Gareth's bike was better than Rein's, nor his legs could match with trained legs of a soccer player. Really hot temperature also didn't help. And thus, after 2 hours of intensive pedaling, Gary was too exhausted to keep the distance. Since he was simply following his friend all the time, Gary didn't even know, where they were. It looked like, they already left St. Paul, because crowded streets changed into grassy hills.

After his last desperate (failed of course) attempt to catch up with his friend, Gareth decided he had definitely enough of this. Since the German was already far away from him, there was nothing left but to shout, because now, only God knew, when Rein would notice, that he's alone on the road, already.

"May the Nine Rings of Hell devour you... WAIT FOR MEEEEE!!!"

Rein was excited. More then he was on a long time. The vacations have arrived and they were finally done junior high. Nothing like a good bike trip to celebrate the victory over another chapter in one's life! Rein and his best friend Gary were biking together to celebrate the starting of there vacation (and good hot weather!). The two hour trip was reaching the end as Rein was ending up near the hill that Rein found a few weeks ago. He wanted to try it out and decided to drag Gary along. He of course didn't say anything about the hill or else Gary would of chicken out of the ride. Of course Rein didn't wanted to force Gary to go down the hill. He just wanted him to come along to watch.

Wait...

Where was Gary?

Rein finally stop his bike and look behind him. He notice a black dot growing into his friend who was shouting at the top of his lungs.

Crap... He's going to give me shit for that... He thought and sigh. Knowing the hill was just about 5 minutes ahead he took at deep breath and yelled back with his familiar German accent.

"HURRY UP GARY! DERE SOMEDING I VANT TO SHOW YOU! VERE ALMOST DERE!"

With this his grin as Gary approach. As soon he's got close enough Rein peddle without giving the poor buy time to relax.

*Huff... Huff... Huff...*

Oh thank God, he finally stopped... WHAT THE HELL?!

Rein once again stormed forward, leaving Gary away. Whatever he wanted to show him, it better be good.

"God damn you Rein! I swear, one more thing like that, and I'll never lend you my homework EVER AGAIN! Do you you hear me?!"

What else could the poor Gary do? He used his last strength reserves in his legs and and tried to catch up once again.

Finally after next 10 minutes, Rein stopped. Gary didn't really spot anything so special, except from really, really long downhill, but that surely wasn't the thing the German wanted to show him, right? RIGHT?!

"Ok Rein..." Gary took a long pause to catch his breath again. "What's so important to show me, you decided to kill me in process? This better be good, really..."

Of course, Gary joked, which could be even heard in his weak voice. He knew Rein was always a bit hyperactive, and he grown used to it. There was no reason to be mad at grass for being green.

Rein mad dash finally ended when he arrive at a steep downhill track he had found. He got off his bike to take a look at it and already began plotting where to go. Obviously the rocks, branches and holes where the most attractive pieces and were mark in Rein mind for later. He stood up to stretch his body once more and adjusted his curly hair of his eyes. While as suicidal as Rein was he needed to make sure he could at least avoid death. Looking back he found poor Gary finally catching up to him. The frail boy made a horrible joke but Rein laugh anyway. Gary as weak as he was had quite the willpower in Rein opinion.

The German turn around to point at the downhill track he had found and Rein gave a nasty grin to Gary.

"You knov dis is it Gary. Just look at dis! I mean have you seen someding so crazy before? I want to try it..." Rein said grinning. He look at it once again and hop on his bike getting ready for the obviously painful trip. "I'm not forcing you to go Gary. I knov you don't like dis stuff but I HAFE to try it alright? Just gife me a few minutes... and... here... ve... GO!" The boy yelled when he gave himself a small boost and started going downhill.

Clearly Rein ignore all thoughts about Gary opinion on the subject and rode off down the hill.

Goddamn it... I knew it, I knew it, I FUCKING knew it...

Just as Gary feared, Rein found the most horrible and dangerous downhill imaginable, and the part of him, which represented suicidal maniac behavior took over his body. Gary looked at things that surely awaited the German down below... And suddenly his heart started racing even harder than just a few moments before, when he was trying with all his might to catch up with Rein.

Rocks. Trees. Bumps. Some garbage along the way. This crazy kid got a death wish this time, for sure. There was no way, Gary would follow him, nu-uh.

"For Christ sake, Rein... Whenever I think you cannot come UP with even more dangerously stupid thing to do, you always here to amaze me..."

In response, Rein started talking about not forcing his friend to commit suicide with him. His usual talk anyway...

"I know Rein, and there's no way hell I would want to go down this hill of death. I also know, I cannot stop you. But first, be prepared, I beg of you. Where's your helmet? Have you even brought it with you? Nevermind. I'll prepare the first aid kit and try to find some alternate way down, and try to- WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!"

Of course (as always) Rein ignored his friends warnings, step on the pedal and went down to meet his creator.

But that wasn't the worst part. Gary in his first instinct reaction, tried to catch Rein, and to do so he ride a bit toward the hill... And a bit too far. Before he could brake or really do anything else, the boy was already riding down the hill right behind his friend. After a quick consideration, which deity or God he should pray to, he decided to choose the easier option.

"FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU..."

Rein laugh as he started to peddle downhill like a crazy maniac. He felt his adrenaline rushing through him, the wind wiping at his face, the ground shaking beneath him every single second. He saw a rock ahead and directed his bike towards it.

Direct hit.

Rein felt his bike lifting off the ground and into the air. He laugh out loud at the crazy moment and turn to see Gary face. Shock and confusion suddenly hit Rein. He saw Gary screaming his lungs off as he followed Rein down the hill.

"VHAT ARE YOU TOING?" Rein yelled back at his friend who was surely scared as hell. Rein didn't know what to do next. He really didn't expect Gary to follow him. Heck this was just too dangerous for him but he still did it. Now what was he suppose to do? While the adrenaline rushing in his veins told him to keep going Rein knew his friend was in danger. He had to stop the ride somehow. Looking forward he tried finding some place they could crash as softly as possible.

And then everything stop in one sudden moment. Rein who was too busy paying attention to Gary forgot he was off the ground and in the air. He had forgotten that there was garbage, branches and rocks everywhere. He had also forgotten the fact that he was suppose to look forward when your biking in a suicidal downhill trip without a helmet.

Rein's bike was soon angle to much forward and when it landed Rein was send flying out of his seat and into the dirt. His body tumble across the earth at wicked speeds like a rag doll being flung down a small cliff. He felt his body being rip apart by branches, bruised by rocks and cut by useless pieces of metal. He felt his cheek smashing against a rock and his left leg being pierce by a stick. Things were happening too quickly for Rein to follow and suddenly it stop as his body just lied there on small patch of mud and dirt.

Everything went to hell, just as foreseen before. Gary began to lose control over the bike, as he was going down with it faster and faster. What's worse, Rein, who was usually paying at least a sliver of attention to what he's doing during those crazy stunts, this time was more occupied with observing his friend in trouble, and eventually got ejected from his own bike. He hit the ground badly, and proceeded to take additional damage from unfriendly environment. It looked really horrible. By this time, Gary already decided what to do. He was still around 50 feet far from Rein, and he knew he had to stop before he'll hit either his friend, or his bike.

With his last struggle, Gary managed to turn the bike to such an angle, it fell over immediately, but to the side, Which meant damaging only one side of Gary's body. Plus a probable very nasty bruise from pedal which hit him in the shin during the fall. Thanks to that maneuver, for the next few weeks, Gary could be seen with a bandage on his leg, filled with special gel to hasten the healing process (plus several little plasters for the minor cuts), but for immediate results, it was perfect, as adrenaline let him act right now to help his friend.

"Rein? Rein, buddy? Do you hear me?"

Rein body slump on the ground without motion as Gary came close to his friend. The poor boy was much more damage then Gary was and was bleeding all over his from several dozens of cuts and bruises. The worst was left leg which was pierce by a branch which stuck out with one half out of each side of Rein left leg.

Rein himself was finally putting things together and manage to turn on his back. He look around dazed until he saw Gary. He smiled and gave a thumbs up for ok until suddenly a sharp jolt of pain went across his body. Rein eyes widen and he could feel the branch impaled in his left leg, the bruises all over his torso and the burning cuts across his arms. It all came to him in one sudden rush. And then Rein laugh.

The masochist threw his head into the air as he laugh out loud. The adrenaline pumping in his veins and the pleasure coming from his multiple injuries probably made this the most exciting day of Rein life. His kept laughing and look at Gary with his eyes filled with excitement and happiness.

"Gary dis... it's... it's... AMAZING! My lord I nefer experience anything like dis before! Dat whole ding vas so... so... unexpected! You coming after me! I mean Gary vhat vere you dinking? It's great and all you vent down but... My god ve need to this again!" He said trying to stand up. Of course his leg wasn't listening and reality soon came crashing down on Rein.

As amazing as it all was Rein's left leg was probably mess up inside and the rest of his body were far from top condition. Rein knew he was stuck here. Looking at Gary he gave him a more calmer smile this time. His adrenaline was seeping away and excitement was over. He had to get it together. "I think my left leg is broken or something. I can't seem to move it Gary... Actually my whole body seems stiff... I think you'll need to drag me out of here..." He said this time actually being to stand on his knees and he look at Gary for a moment. "I owe you one don't I?"

Every normal, random observer would probably conclude, that Rein had some kind of heavy concussion or something alike, as it was definitely not normal to laugh so much after that kind of accident. Gary knew better, though. He knew, that was probably the most enjoyable thing for the German since his last visit with his dentist.

"Do this again? Sure thing pal, but give me a break..." He paused for a second to analyze what he actually said. "No pun intended of course, for at least a month, ok? That was far too much for me at once, that's for sure..."

And then, Gary looked at his friend's leg. He didn't even need the assistance of any specialist. Broken. Definitely. Rein needed to visit hospital. Though he wasn't very strong, and Rein wasn't very helpful due to his situation, Gary managed to help his friend stand and made a small step forward (uphill) with his healthy leg.

"You owe me? You're telling me this after every math test. If I would execute every cola you owe me for my help, I would have a Coca-Cola factory for myself." Gary panted. "Hang on, this ain't easy."

As someone who didn't have any technique or power, Gary had a real hard time keeping Rein in vertical position AND helping him to make the top. His own injuries didn't help either, thought the rest of the adrenaline let him overcome the pain. The walk was very slow though...

"Oh, dammit... I swear, I'll sign up for the first aid course tomorrow. At least it will be a bit easier next time, when you'll try to commit a spectacular suicide..."

Needless to say, Gary had completely no idea what to do next, so he started to think frantically.

Damn, I can't do anything with the leg, but I need to treat those cuts at least. I never did anything like that before... What were they telling us in school? Always try to keep the conversation with the injured? Do not let him lose consciousness?

"Just hang on a little longer. If my cell phone is not shattered at this point, I'll call dad at the top, so he'll pick us up. Our bikes are not in proper condition the transport you to the hospital. Is that okay?"

Rein nodded "Knowing you Gary it will be two or three months before I convince you to ride a bike to a unknown trail with me again." He joke. The young German was returning to his quiet personality. Rarely did he ever broke out into any energetic behavior unless he was helping someone else or clearly doing dangerous things.

Sighing he look at Gary struggling to help him up the hill. Rein felt guilty at that moment and sick. He wanted to have fun true but he didn't want to hurt Gary. Never in his life did he wanted his best friend hurt. Struggling he put all his strength in helping himself so that his friend wouldn't had to work as hard while cursing himself in the head for his actions. Hearing Gary wanting to join the first aid course gave Rein a idea.

"I'm also gonna take it Gary. To be honest this was a completely idiotic idea. I mean look at you... You... You look terrible and it's my fault Gary... I should of never brought you here. It was a idiotic move. Just... God dammit. I'm just so sorry man." Finally they reach uphill and Gary set Rein down. The German look up to Gary who seem to be a mix of state of panic, confusion and pain. Rein himself was a bit of lost of what to do. He didn't had a cell and he didn't knew if Gary had one.

Eventually his friend confirm that he indeed had a phone. Rein sigh with relief and lied on his back. "Don't worry about me Gary. You know my tolerance for pain overtakes anyone else in this school."

"Oh no, Rein. Don't even start. Riding down with you was *pant* was my own decision. I'm the stupid one here. Don't blame yourself."

Gary definitely didn't want to tell Rein at the time, he made uncontrollable movement toward the hill to actually grab Rein before he started the stunt (and then it all went [nomen omen] downhill from there). Last thing he needed was Rein in bad condition and even worse mood.

Finally, after dealing with all the difficulties, both boys reached the top. But that was not the end just yet. Gary's first aid kit was probably in even worse condition than his bike. He didn't have experience, equipment or even nerves to make himself useful. But he couldn't just leave things be.

"Hold on Rein. You won't stand on this leg for long, that's for sure, you need to sit. Sit, not to lie down, I need you to stay conscious, and you might fell asleep at this rate."

As the German sat down on the ground, Gary took his cellphone. Thank Gods, it was still working. He quickly selected his Father's number from contact list and waited for connection.

"Come on... Come o... Dad? Is that you?"

"..."

"Dad, I need your help. We had a bike accident with Rein... No, I'm okay, just a bruise or two, but looks like Rein broke his leg. I need to transport him to the hospital... Ok, thanks. Really, really thanks. Oh, and don't tell Mom, she'll freak out, if she'll hear this... Where? Oh damn..."

Gary covered the microphone for a while and asked the German.

"Rein. Where are we actually? You know how to get to this place?"
