Too Late

Making up most of the northern part of the island, the woods are deep and dark. Spreading second-growth trees, mainly fir and pine, block much of the light from reaching to the ferny undergrowth. Moss hangs thick from the branches, testament to the dank and moisture-laden air, while the occasional deer path shows that many animals still make this forest their home. These woods are those on the inland part of the island’s eastern side, and slowly angle upwards towards the island’s central mountain.

Too Late

((Remy Kim continued from Ishida Hunting))

Wandering. Wandering. Wandering.

That's all they had been doing since the first announcement.

They had managed to fall asleep nearby the mines just before that dreadful first announcement. Sure, the rickety buildings weren't very stable, but it was shelter none the less. The next morning, however, was the unbearable part. When he heard it, he cried like a baby. Reika... was gone, and Reiko had become a murderer twice over. He was too late, and he couldn't find or save either of them.

And now they were pretty much gone...

The announcement still rang in his ears even now.

"Fifth wasted was, uh... hold on, let me make sure I get this one right. Reika Ishida, you heard that kids? Reika, the one nobody really cared about. She made the mistake of startling Kris Hartmann, who took her out like a pro. Moving right along, the next of our femme fatales..."

But... he cared about Reika. Reika just wasn't some statistic. She was a person. His friend. Heck, maybe she was something more to him. And now this Kris person had simply shot her. But why? Reika was most likely minding her own business... it wasn't fair...

He knew Josée wouldn't take his crying well. Of course, what was he supposed to do? Kris fucking killed Reika, and Reiko was apparently running around killing people! Not to mention Sarah was out there, and god knows what was happening to her right at this moment (fortunately, unlike the twins, her name hadn't been mentioned yet. Yet).

But, Remy knew what he had to do. It sounded repulsive when it first popped into his head, but after a while, he couldn't resist the urge. He didn't tell Josée or Katelyn just yet, but the thought had repeatedly shown up in his mind since the announcement. Remy had a switchblade, and he was fairly strong. He could just sneak up on Kris and...

It was a dreadful thought, but it was what he honestly wanted to do right now, aside from finding Sarah and maybe even Reiko. The thing is, though, he didn't even know who Kris was. Maybe Josée knew, since she was a little more versed in the social scene, as far as he could tell. The only things he knew about this Kris was one, "he" had a gun, and two, "he" had also killed Amber Whimsy, who was infamous around the school. That was the only information Remy had, and frankly, it wasn't very good.

The rest of the second day had passed by calmly for them. Most of the time they just wandered the island, without any real aim. They didn't even see anyone. But, soon night fell, and they were in the woods once again. Since shelter didn't seem to be in store like the previous evening, they soon took shifts keeping watch while the other two slept.

Remy was woken up the next morning by the second announcement.

"Do you kids know what makes Uncle Danya happy? Things like... fine cigars, roast dinners, quiet nights in with Mrs. Danya... those things make Uncle Danya happy. But what also makes Uncle Danya happy is when his beloved students are game for the competition."

He rubbed his eyes, placing himself in the sitting position. Yeah, nice to know that, asshole, he fumed to himself in his head. And so, he blathered on about who was dead and alive. Reiko had killed again. Raina Morales and Tobias Elwin, those were the names of her victims. No information about Kris, though. A few other names he recognized. Trevor Duncan, he was a guy in his drama class. He and Remy had always been on good terms whenever they talked. Damn, him too?

And that's when Remy started to tremble.

It wasn't just Reika. Everyone he talked to at school was dying, and for pointless reasons. But, Remy knew he must one day kill. And not just Kris, either. There were a lot of people playing, it seemed. But he wasn't like them. But, why Trevor? And why Reika? Reiko had become a player as well...

His eyes started to water again, but he wiped them away. Remy really had no clue where Josée was, but he was aware that she wouldn't be happy with his crying. Besides, he made his choice, so he shouldn't be crying. He knew that if he ever saw Kris, he would stab "him" as many times as possible. It was the right thing to do, to be honest. Reika would be able to rest in peace, and wherever she was, she would be happy to find out her murderer received justice, right? Maybe he could go after this Hearst guy too, if he ever came across him.

But still. He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to die...

Remy stared at the ground.

He didn't want to actually kill someone either, now that he thought of it.

How would Mom think if he actually did kill someone?

And suddenly, killing Kris didn't seem so appealing. But, the thought of trying to get vengeance remained, just smaller.

He looked around him. Where was the other two? Katelyn and Josée were most likely nearby, that was to be certain. How was Josée holding up, anyways? He always had trouble trying to peek into that woman's mind. Yes, they were twins. No, that didn't mean he could read it. To him, Josée may as well be an alien creature from planet Mars, or possibly further out in the universe. Remy still wondered if she was concerned about that OC guy of hers. Would she act the same way as he was if OC got killed? Did she care about him? Did she care about the Ishidas at all?

And Katelyn. She probably had friends out here, too.

Remy sighed. Oh god. How many people were going to die here? Only one was supposed to survive, apparently.

"Hey guys?" he asked quietly, hoping at least one of the two girls were nearby.

They had to be nearby. They just simply had to.

((Katelyn Wescott continued from Ishida Hunting))

Katelyn crept through the forest with her heart in her throat. She knew it wasn't good to be so tense at a time like this but she just couldn't help it. With Josee and Remy out of sight she could never feel completely safe. Someone could jump out of the bushes and shoot her at any moment. She knew it wouldn't happen, and that she'd need a cool head to get through all this. How they would actually get through this Katelyn didn't know, but she knew she had to just keep going. Just keep going one step at a time. Then perhaps the end would come and they wouldn't have died or needed to kill anyone. But if that time was to ever come they'd have to live in the present and keep taking one step after another.

Right now Katelyn's one step was a practical one. Find that creek they'd passed on their way here and see if she could get any drinking water from it. Their bottles wouldn't last forever, and it was always better to be safe than sorry. She shouldn't have left Josee and Remy like that, but she'd been having trouble sleeping and needed something to do.

When the announcement crackled over the speakers hidden around the island Katelyn almost let out a scream from the surprise, but as the announcement got under way her shock was replaced by different kind of horror. 'Mr. Danya' reading out the names of her friends and classmates, him listing how they'd died, and the fact that she hadn't been able to do anything about it, it was all too much! These people shouldn't have been dying; they were good people! They shouldn't have been killing each other! It was as if simple misunderstanding were becoming violent. How long until it all fell apart? These damn collars making everyone hurt each other! Katelyn couldn't stand it, she had to get back to the others.

She was glad she'd found Remy and Josee. While they were with her she knew she wouldn't hear their names read out by that sick fuck. She could stay with them and protect them and stop anything happening to them. It was something on this island that she could do, while everything else was beyond her control. Katelyn only wished she could say the same about Aston and Marion. Even two days later she still felt like she'd betrayed them. If their names had been on the announcements Katelyn felt that she would have probably broken down. At least they were still alive, even without her.

Hurrying back to where they'd slept, Katelyn heard Remy's voice and once again felt that tightness in her chest. She'd let them out of her sight. What if he had spotted someone creeping up and didn't want to attract attention? Oh why had she been so selfish as to leave them alone like that! Tears she hadn't even noticed falling down her cheeks, Katelyn sprinted towards his voice.

As Katelyn ducked around a tree and saw him standing seemingly safe she felt the tension fall out of her. She slowed and let out a sigh; at least he was safe.

"Remy..."

Katelyn didn't have anything to say to him, so she just expressed her feelings through a relieved smile.

((Josée Trembley continued from Ishida Hunting))

Call it human restriction but after wandering around the island for what seemed like days, Josée needed to rest. She leaned against a particularly large looking tree and took a deep breath and observed her surroundings. She couldn't be lost, she knew that after she had wandered away from Remy this morning she had gone almost completely straight onwards, so all she had to do was go back the other way. At least, she thought that she had gone completely straight onwards, she knew that she had passed a few distinctive looking trees on her morning wandering; the only problem was that she couldn't quite recall what the exact features of distinction were.

"Hey guys?"

Josée heard a muffled shout nearby, she had to have been near Remy. Damn, she was rather hoping to have caught up with Katelyn first; she didn't know exactly why, but perhaps she could turn her against Remy or something like that. Not completely turn her against him; just show that she was superior to him. But alas, there he was, waiting for them both. Josée could just about hear where he was coming from, she must have looped round and went backwards at some point because he was suddenly so close to her. Josée moved towards him.

"Well... I think I can safely say that that is defiantly a forest out there. So what have you contributed to the team so far this morning Remy?" She asked in a sort of mocking fashion, she winked jokingly towards Katelyn.

((Cisco Vasquez continued from All That I've Ever Known))

Cisco Vasquez felt like dying.

He had apparently been wandering across the entire island looking for souls to reap for the last 48 hours at the very least. Despite having applied (and re-applied where the cases warrant) bandages and ointment from his own first-aid kit, andhaving managed to feed himself sparsely he had not only lost track of time but from what he noticed about the lack of any presence at all since this morning, lost track of his only traveling buddy.

And when that traveling buddy was the Grim Reaper, well, he couldn't help but feel extremely vulnerable at the least. His arms had practically stiffened holding his Carol Channing vinyl - which he still hadn't fully realized was a circular sawblade in a Carol Channing sleeve - to his chest. He also felt a bit abandoned and guilty, probably because of his complete lack of performance as Death's minion. By now, he had started mumbling to himself, mulling over every single different possibility and degree of pain of however Joe Rios would end up punishing him for his inability to do his dirty work. He begged and pleaded with whatever entity resided in his head for an opportunity to really prove himself.

Indeed, Joe seemed very, very disturbed as of late. Particularly when the announcement started playing. Cisco found this fear contagious, as he obviously attributed it to his current inability to do the Reaper's bidding. After all, none of them were responsible for the names mentioned on the announcement, and in that form Death would have to walk quite a bit to properly claim all the souls that the other students had liberated from the mortal coil.

"Joe? Buddy?" Cisco whimpered, "Is everything all right?"

((Joe Rios continued from All That I've Ever Known))

Joe had been wandering around for quite a while. A little under a day, by his measure, since they had left the sawmill at night on the second day. He was already uncomfortable with this arrangement; he was wandering around, technically armed but unable to quickly access his weapon, with his only traveling companion being someone who was not the most mentally stable person on planet Earth, to say the least.

The announcement had clicked on shortly after they left. He had missed the first one due to an incident with a bit of dynamite that some idiot had thrown into the sawmill for no apparent reason, so he decided to pay some attention to this one and see if he recognized any names.

"Honestly kids I don't know how to make this any more simple for you. A certain Rose Codreanu, managed, somehow, to fail to realise that she too was in a dangerzone. We're doing future generations a favour with ones like that, we really are."

Rose. Unfortunately, he most certainly did. All the air left Joe Rios' lungs, and for the next few seconds any rational thought in his mind was replaced by rage and bloodlust towards Danya. He managed to cool himself down a bit to hear the next bit of bad news.

"Well, after that, everyone's favourite midget, Reiko Ishida managed to score with another double kill. That's right kids, that puts her on four. First up was Tobias Elwin, who took a knife to the throat and then right afterwards, Raina Morales discovered that Reiko's boot was a lot harder than her head. Must've been a real kicker for her..."

Wait, what the fuck. Joe did a double-take. Reiko!? What the fuck? The rage was overtaken by confusion as Joe wondered what in the hell kind of bizarro world he had entered into where Reiko Motherfucking Ishida, of all people, could be a psycho killer. Judging by Danya's praise of her, Joe briefly considered sending Cisco off to her instead; she was certainly a far better Grim Reaper than he was, he mused.

He didn't pay much attention to the rest, brooding over the loss of his best friend and the apparent total transformation of another old friend, until one of the last lines.

"Alright kiddies, all the current dangerzones are cleared. But, it wouldn't be any fun if we had none, so I'm going to go ahead and name The Infirmary, The Key and The Mansion as our latest dangerzones. Don't pull a Codreanu, folks - haul ass!"

Okay, seriously, fuck you, Danya. This hurts enough without you nicknaming a stupid mistake after her, you fucking asshole, Joe thought to himself, somewhere between defeated and annoyed.

They kept walking. Every now and then, Cisco would re-apply first aid materials and feed himself; he was surprisingly self-sufficient for someone with his head so far in the clouds. He eventually started mumbling something about reaping souls and proving himself; Joe hoped the Grim Reaper thing wasn't actually starting to get to Cisco's head, as the last thing he needed was for his buddy to turn into an absolute psychopath.

After a while, they arrived at some woods and Cisco asked him a really, really stupid question.

"Joe? Buddy?" Cisco whimpered to Joe. "Is everything all right?"

"Of course everything isn't fucking all right! My best friend died horribly and got ruthlessly mocked over the announcements, and another person I was reasonably close to has been going on a batshit insane killing spree, you fucking idiot!" Joe snapped back.

An awkward pause.

"Sorry... I didn't mean to get angry at you. It's not your fault, you couldn't possibly have known that I was close to Rose or Reiko," Joe apologized. "Still, saying this is an unwelcome development would be just a bit of an understatement," he added. "Seriously, what the fuck, it's like the universe is out to get me or something." Joe was speaking in an oddly down-to-earth manner for someone who was supposedly the Grim Reaper. He briefly considered totally dropping the lie and admitting to Cisco that it was just a convenient story to get an ally, but he figured Cisco didn't need the extra trauma right now.

And soon the others popped up.

First came Katelyn, who gave him a relieved smile, which Remy returned. Thank goodness she was safe. Now what about Josée?

"Well... I think I can safely say that that is definitely a forest out there. So what have you contributed to the team so far this morning Remy?"

He span around, to see the little she-devil talking to him.

Remy clenched his fist. Sure, it was her idea to team up. Sure, she had said that she wanted one of them to get off the island safely to Mom. Sure, he wanted to keep her around. But, that didn't mean that everything was perfect between them and they could tolerate each other easily. God, sometimes he wished he could just smack her right across the face. But that wouldn't do, would it?

But, none the less, Remy was irritated.

"Josée, how about you just-" he started to snap, but-

Noises. Muffled noises. It sounded like... someone else was shouting? What the hell...

Remy sighed. Well, it had to be sometime that they ran into someone. The fact that they hadn't encountered anyone yesterday meant that they were probably going to encounter someone today. Remy wasn't in the best of moods, and Josée was being particularly irritating right now. So, this new event was starting to get on his nerves too.

He looked around at the other two. Josée had that club thing, while Katelyn had a megaphone. He had the knife. So, two of them could probably defend themselves. A megaphone... maybe they could talk to however was there?

But, what if it was one of the players?

What if it was Kris?

Remy took a deep breath, and turned to Katelyn. "Do you think it's a good idea to try talking to them with that... you know... uh... megaphone?"

He didn't even bother asking Josée. He really wasn't in the mood.

Though she had to think fast, Katelyn was held by indecision. She had thought Remy was safe the moment she'd seen him, and hadn't waited to find out. Her original thoughts had been right after all; he had heard somebody coming. That meant she would need to protect them now, but for some reason she couldn't summon up that determination she'd had only a minute ago. She needed to. It was time to act!

But her thoughts were moving too slowly, and her mouth gaped open without a response.

Remy was counting on her! He and Josee both were, and now wasn't the time to let them down!

Katelyn crept over to where she'd left her bag, attempting to retrieve her megaphone. Why she was trying to move so quietly right before she would scream an amplified message into the forest wasn't something she thought about, but at least her options were all still open. She fished the megaphone from amidst her belongings and turned back to the twins.

There was still the chance they could run. There was still the chance they could hide. But that wouldn't fix the situation. They couldn't just run from all their problems. In her life, Katelyn had rarely encountered problems beyond her ability to resolve. It could be scary, but she always had to do what she could. The only way she could ever know if she could help here was to try. In a few seconds she could be dead, and that knowledge weighed on her mind heavier than any doubt she had ever felt before. But she still had to try her hardest. For everyone's benefit.

Once again the words wouldn't come, but Katelyn gripped the handle of the megaphone tightly and gave a small nod.

Josée positioned herself comfortably against the outer wall of the cave and listened to the conversation between Remy and Katelyn.

"Do you think it's a good idea to try talking to them with that... you know... uh... megaphone?"

Josée was unsure about this idea, what if these people were murderous, they could take Katelyn out in an instant. Still, if worse came to the worst at least she could say that it was Remy's fault. But not even she wanted it to come to that, perhaps if she positioned herself behind a tree so that if they were murderers, she could catch them by surprise with the Blackjack. so Josée stepped behind one of the nearby towering trees and waited for Katelyn to give her signel. But no signal came. She seemed scared, Josée didn't blame her to be frank; perhaps Remy should be the one making the message. Josée laughed to herself at the thought of this, but she remained behind the tree, Blackjack in hand.

Cisco didn't get an immediate reply to his question, as both he and Joe found themselves paying a little too much attention to the announcements to do so. Unfortunately, when that reply came, it came as sudden as a swing of that scythe out of goddamn motherfucking nowhere.

"Of course everything isn't fucking all right! My best friend died horribly and got ruthlessly mocked over the announcements, and another person I was reasonably close to has been going on a batshit insane killing spree, you fucking idiot!" Joe snapped back.

Such violent reaction caused Cisco to curl up in his spot bracing. He closed his eyes and almost started sobbing, expecting nothing short of a drawn-out, painful (and most importantly, over-dramatic) demise. He didn't usually pay attention to who-dated-who in school, let alone who-was-mostly-likely-to-murder-who, and clearly there was a price for not doing his proverbial homework.

"Oh God...Joe..." he whimpered as he shivered, "I'm sorry..."

"Sorry... I didn't mean to get angry at you. It's not your fault, you couldn't possibly have known that I was close to Rose or Reiko," Joe apologized. That was excuse enough to calm Cisco's nerves for the time being, as he straightened up somewhat and wiped off whatever sweat suddenly beaded on his forehead away with a bandaged arm.

"Still, saying this is an unwelcome development would be just a bit of an understatement," Joe added. "Seriously, what the fuck, it's like the universe is out to get me or something."

Cisco nodded in almost sheepish approval. It wasn't exactly a secret that people were generally out to try to screw Death over as much as they could before the inevitable. Some got lucky, others worked for it. It bought them time (particularly those that made deals with the Reaper), or merely hastened the process. But Death got everyone in the end, including his minions.

And, as luck would hopefully have it, the source of what seemed like talking in very, very close vicinity.

"Do you hear that?" the green-haired minion asked, putting a finger to his mouth and looking around. He slowly pried his hand into the sleeve of his vinyl, his fingertips slowly making their way down the metallic edge of the circular sawblade within toward the hole that he figured was its 'grip.' But he didn't draw it out, not yet. He didn't want whoever he intended to use this against to know that he had a lethal weapon (which, unbeknownst to him, actually did have the potential to seriously mess someone the fuck up.)

"Someone's nearby...very...very close..." he added, the edges of his mouth twisting upward into a very sinister grin.

Joe noted Cisco's horrible rictus, spurred by the people talking in the distance. For someone so utterly broken, he could be quite terrifying. This wasn't gonna work.

"Act casual," he quietly advised his partner. "And take that... abomination of a facial expression off. Seriously, you're scaring me a little with that, we can't afford to scare whoever's out there too," he admonished.

"Hey, anyone out there?" Joe shouted in an attempt to catch the attention of the people talking. He silently hoped that it wasn't going to be Reiko. That was the last thing he needed right now.

Funny how even Death has fears sometimes.

Katelyn fished the megaphone out of the bag quickly, and nodded. Remy found himself glaring at a giggling Josée, before looking back at Katelyn. God damn it, he really wasn't in the mood for Josée's antics right now. Again, it was her idea to team up, but that didn't mean he liked hanging around her most of the time. But, at least she had her club-thingy out, so she at least was going to be helpful, rather than going "my brother is an idiot" this entire time. That, at least, was a good sign, since it meant that she was going to... well, do something with herself if they got attacked.

Oh god, what if they were those kind of people? Would they be attracting some sort of psychopath to them? Not one, but two?

It was better to just talk to them, though. See if they would be willing to be friendly.

"Okay, Katelyn..." he started to say, and then took a deep breath.

"Just say to them... uh... you know. We're armed, but we're not willing to attack anyone. Or if you want I could... you know, say it myself?"

His hands wandered back to the knife in his pocket. What would happen if he had to use it? Again, at least two of them had weapons, right? There seemed to be two of the people, based on the voices. Two against two. Well, actually, three against two, depending on Katelyn's abilities. Hopefully it was indeed two people there, and not... well, more.

"Hey, anyone out there?"

Well, they seemed to notice them too, at least.

Okay, Katelyn, you know what to do. Just call out to them, and well... communicate. Remy took a deep breath.

A burst of feedback rang out across the forest as Katelyn squeezed the trigger on the megaphone and adjusted its distance from her face. Swallowing again, she addressed anyone who could be listening.

"Uh, hi. It's Katelyn. With a 'K'."

Her voice sounded pretty different over her megaphone so she saw the need to clarify. In all the time since she had arrived on this island she had barely used her megaphone at all. That seemed to be something to be thankful for, since their kidnappers had designated it her weapon. Still, she felt a strange satisfaction at its use. This was something she could do for the others.

"We're not fighting! We won't hurt you! We might even be able to help!"

She wasn't sure if she could, Katelyn made the offer anyway. They had first aid kits in their bags, and could always offer a bit of food if these people needed some. They were all just trying to survive, weren't they? These people weren't killers, right? She'd already let them know where they were.

"Please don't hurt us," she added after releasing the trigger.

Please don't let them be killers...

Josée studied Katelyn's expression, she seemed very distressed, she had no idea what Katelyn was planning on saying, perhaps Remy should be the one to talk to them.

"Just say to them... uh... you know. We're armed, but we're not willing to attack anyone. Or if you want I could... you know, say it myself?"

He was even offering, surely Katelyn would see sense. Josée hadn't noticed that her nervousness was starting to show as she she eyeballed the trembling Katelyn from her tree. Nonetheless, she could take it no longer and if Katelyn wasn't going to say anything then she would have to go and do it herself. She left her hiding place and began to quickly march up to her, ready to take the microphone out of her hand, but before she could. Katelyn spoke:

"Uh, hi. It's Katelyn. With a 'K'."

Josée stopped in her tracks and stared at her, wondering what she was going to do next.

"We're not fighting! We won't hurt you! We might even be able to help!"

Josée wasn't sure if she had picked the best words. It was all well and good to try and make peace with these people, but what if they saw them as weak and decided to kill the three of them. It was ironic that what seemed like the sensible option was actually one of the riskiest. But what was said was said, all they could do now, was wait for a response.

"Good... Good job Katelyn." Josée said to Katelyn as she stood by her side and patted her nervously on the shoulder. She took a deep breath in and waited.

((For the sake of roll expediency we'll be moving things along a little bit as worked out with Ban.))

"Act casual, and take that... abomination of a facial expression off. Seriously, you're scaring me a little with that, we can't afford to scare whoever's out there too,"

Cisco quickly took these words to heart, gasping briefly as his smile sunk back into an expression of quivering obedience. Perhaps it was better to let Joe do his job and then have Cisco do the dirty work...though it was starting to near the point where it was past gratifying for him.

"Hey, anyone out there?" Joe shouted. Cisco stepped back toward Joe so the two were almost back-to-back, hoping that he hadn't somehow alerted a horde. Of course, a pseudo-supernatural call deserved a pseudo-supernatural response, this one in the form of what sounded like the feedback from a speaker.

The ringing in his ears from the explosion had dissipated enough that he only had tinnitus during more absolute silence. It sounded like the feedback was coming from only one speaker.

"Uh, hi. It's Katelyn. With a 'K'." Only one person came to mind when he heard those words, though she sounded sincere enough (as sincere as a speaker filter would allow) that it was most likely that person.

Katelyn Wescott was almost a nerd after his own heart. Almost. Sure she liked to put an almost freaky intensity into things, but she just seemed too intellectual for it to be 'real.' Not that it caused him to hold any contempt for her from that, he just kept his distance from her like he did from most (and vice versa.)

"We're not fighting! We won't hurt you! We might even be able to help!"

From how confident (or not) she sounded, she had to have found a group that had power in numbers or weaponry. Either way, he couldn't take them on with Death's earthly form and not suffer greatly (and stupidly) for it. Which means they had to come up with a way to lure them to their doom...something Cisco was already getting to while Katelyn was speaking.

"I've got an idea..." Cisco suddenly said, his enthusiasm limited by his hushed voice, "I'll toss my vinyl at them. That'll show them we don't mean any harm yet."

He pursed his lips as he gently pried his fingers into the torn paperboard sleeve, making his way around the bladed tip of the 'vinyl' and across its smooth yet slightly scuffed metallic surface to the hole before slowly pulling it out. Removing it also slowly removed bits and pieces of the actual black vinyl, shattered in the explosion, causing them to fall to his feet unnoticed.

He held out the record with an extended arm and fingers and a gentle yet disappointed smile on his face, as if he were at a jewelry store analyzing a (fiendishly huge) engagement ring. The steel glinted in the light, allowing him to see the 'vinyl's' serrated edges more clearly. But even then, he wasn't quite convinced.

"It's a shame, this must be a limited edition print." Cisco couldn't exactly remember where he'd heard that vinyls were printed in different colors. Maybe it was just the preschool records his teacher put on the toy player, which was somehow fitting given that the original vinyl was a first-edition printing of children's songs.

"But hell, I'm gonna die soon anyway," he added, "Nobody's gonna miss it."

Cisco removed his finger from the hole and held the circular sawblade with both hands, pinching the flat side so as not to cut himself like last time as he stared out in the general direction of the megaphone voice. The voice came from a direction where the foliage was relatively low, probably not much taller than the two boys. It wouldn't be hard to send the vinyl hurtling over it just far enough to be noticed if the wind didn't blow it back into the woods.

"We don't want to hurt you either!" he shouted, his throat aching a bit from not having done much shouting in a long time. "I'll toss out my weapon, it's not that good!"

Without any further delay, Cisco folded his wrist forward and crouched a bit, clearly aiming to mimic his athletic counterparts in executing this suddenly-improvised plan of his. He was no discus thrower by most measures, but at least his constant state of pseudo-dizziness meant he wouldn't lose as much of the bearings he'd somehow recovered after the explosion as he figured he would. With a rather loud grunt, he loosed his grip and sent the blade whizzing over the foliage. At least it didn't seem to wobble much from the air resistance...as much as he could spot it before it finally disappeared from his sight.

If anything though, Cisco didn't expect it to hit anything. In fact he probably didn't expect the 'vinyl' to reach them at all. It would probably land harmlessly at their feet at the most, maybe even bounce harmlessly off of their clothes.

This'll be easy. I'll just ask Death to help me find it when I'm done...maybe this'll satisfy him.

"I've got an idea..." Cisco suddenly said, his enthusiasm limited by his hushed voice, "I'll toss my vinyl at them. That'll show them we don't mean any harm yet."

Joe blanched. The only words that he could summon to his mind were "oh," "fuck" and "no." The air seemed to freeze as he looked on, horrified, at what Cisco was fixing to (totally inadvertently) do to the people they had barely even met.

"It's a shame, this must be a limited edition print," Cisco noted.

How the fuck can someone be this oblivious!? That thing... oh my fucking... no. No. No. He's not serious. There's no way... Joe thought, frantic.

"But hell, I'm gonna die soon anyway," he added, "Nobody's gonna miss it." Joe stared at Cisco as the latter prepared to throw his sawblade like a discus, apparently totally clueless that he was holding a fucking sawblade.

"We don't want to hurt you either!" Cisco shouted. "I'll toss out my weapon, it's not that good!"

Cisco prepped to throw it, and Joe closed his eyes, not wanting to see the results of this action.

Cisco, you fucking idiot.
