[[Kyran Dean Continued From: Think Before You Act.]]

Kyran slammed his fist into the small punching bag of the "Test Your Punch" machine.

It was a Saturday night. A few of Kyran's friends were having a rare get together at Oz' house. Except for him of course.

No, tonight he was working concession during a night shift on a very busy movie night, after a few brand new releases. He had a lot of things on his mind, and it was tough dealing with annoying customers at the same time. Though, it was to be expected when you worked at a movie theater in the middle of a very busy mall in Seattle on a weekend night. To think, as a child he'd thought this job would be awesome, but at least it was something.

There wasn't much he was allowed to do recently anyway. Even if he did get the night off, he wasn't allowed to spend time with the others. He was supposed to work and come straight home afterwards, no drinks or hanging out. It was a part of his punishment, for getting suspended from school. On the other hand, Kyran felt relieved that he did get some sort of punishment. For a while after she heard the news, his mom didn't do much except give Kyran a rather lengthy silent treatment. It wasn't something he was used to and he considered it a far worse consequence than anything else. The way she stared over at the empty section reserved on the shelf for him, next to pictures of his two older brother's prom nights — a night Kyran was never going to have now — deeply unnerved him.

It just added to the stress, knowing how much he disappointed his mom, cementing himself as the bad egg of her bunch.

Wasn't just his mom either. He felt like he let his friends down. They were supposed to hang out at the prom, together. The last few times they could before the end of their senior year. His father had even encouraged him many times to find a nice girl to go with him. His dad wanted to see what kind of a catch he could get immortalized in a few pictures together, like his brothers had in the past, even though he was planning to just simply ask his friend Alex Ripley, if there wasn't a girl brave enough to ask him herself. As a result, Kyran didn't expect for his dad to be the one to punish him and take away much of his freedom. To see him be almost as disappointed in him as his mom was, actually hurt.

Well, at least he was on break here in the arcade section of the movies theater.

Kyran wound up and threw his fist crashing into the machine's punching bag once more.

For a moment, he imagined the bag being Adonis' head. It was merely his way of venting some of his frustrations out. He had seen Alba a few times after their little incident, but kept himself restrained, even if Alba wanted to continue being a jerkass and the urge to smack him was strong. Sure there was the obvious threat from the principal, but it was really a word of advice on that same day which kept Kyran from lashing back at the office and every other moment since.

"Calm down, Dean. You're a good kid. Don't make this worse for yourself. Guys like Alba will learn their lesson someday."

Mr. Davidge's words had resonated in Kyran's mind. He always knew Mr. D was a very cool guy, but Kyran didn't know how wise the man could be. He was right about that, about everything. Things were going to catch up with Adonis eventually. There was really no reason to make things any worse for himself, all because of people like him. Mr. D saw that and Kyran knew he just needed to calm down and listen.

Kyran pulled out his cell phone and dialed Alex Ripley's phone number. If he wasn't going to physically be there, he was at least going to call them up really quick, apologize for not showing up and say hi. He felt at the stitches on his lip and waited for someone to pick up.

"Voice-mail."

Nevermind.

Well, that made sense. Alex and the rest of the guys and gals were probably too busy enjoying themselves to really notice this stuff. Even if they had, there probably would have been some drunken slurring going on.

A mild expression of delight appeared on Kyran's face at the thought before those same thoughts made him feel a bit down on himself again for having to miss all these last get-togethers before graduation, prom included. This mood left his throat feeling dry and Kyran hung up the phone before he could leave a message. He didn't really want to sound too upset, especially when the rest of them were having fun.

He left instead, a text message, saying sorry for not being able to show up and to tell the rest of them he said hey. Kyran wasn't much of a "texting person," but it was probably the better way to communicate with them at the time.

Kyran headed back to the concession area to get himself a cup of orange soda, to hydrate his throat when he noticed that the theater lobby area was beginning to be flooded with people again. A movie probably just finished and people were just hanging out for a little bit. In fact, he thought he recognized some classmates from school.

As he took a few sips from his straw, Kyran felt the vibration of his phone. It was a text from Alex. For a little while, Kyran exchanged a few messages, about the whole food and fight thing, by filling her in on anything she might not have already known. He almost noted that he was the one to throw the first chunk of food at Adonis, which started the whole thing, so at least he did have some measure of 'worth it'' in there some where.

((Cooper Komorowski continued from It's not good, Eric.  It's a gazebo!))

Cooper ambled towards the concession stand.  His popcorn bucket was empty and his Cherry Coke was approaching drought levels.  The need for more movie munchies was rising.  And it's not like he was missing anything.  He'd seen 'The Avengers' twice already, so he knew how much time he had before he missed any of the action.

His eyes glazed over a bit as he thought about The Black Widow and her skintight costume.  "Mmm, dat ass," he murmured in a pleased tone.  Anyone who dismissed 'The Avengers' as a comic nerd movie had obviously not experienced the joy of seeing Scarlett Johanssen's gorgeous self be all flexible and limber in a leather cat suit on a forty foot screen.

A few moments of patience and Cooper had the refills for his large popcorn and extra large soda.  He headed towards the condiment station, focused on the butter syrup and popcorn topping choices that awaited him.  Should he go with the ranch topping or the nacho cheese flavoring?  Or he could put on the butter, then try to section the tub into thirds and put on the white cheddar, the ranch, AND the nacho cheese.  But did he want three savory flavors?  There was some merit to the caramel flavoring to add some sweetness.

Frustrated, Cooper just grabbed the first two flavors at hand and sprinkled them on the popcorn with wild abandon.  The popcorn would be a surprise, at least.  Turning around, he spotted Kyran Dean.   Dean was one of the football players, and one of the main players in the recent food war that broke out in the cafeteria.  Of course it happened on a day he had been stuck in wretched Mrs. Havok's room, making up a test.  Cooper was definitely down with a good, old-fashioned food fight.

"S'up, D-man," he said in greeting.  "Sorry to hear about you mixing it up with the tool-lord Alba.  Rough break, bro."

((Timothy Abrams Continued from Hallway! Returns! (ft. DA-PUMP) ))

The smell of popcorn and the bustle of countless conversations greeted Timothy as he entered through the doors of the Regal Del Mar theatre. He paused for a moment, temporarily distracted, before he walked over to the ticket line. As the queue moved slowly on, he stared off into space, his mind wandering. He glanced over at a poster advertising a some movie with a Roman centurion on it. It's a real shame that the Romans relied on slave labour so much instead of developing their technology further. If they had done some work with Heron of Alexandria's aeolipile-

He was startled out his thoughts by the tired sounding voice of a ticket clerk. "Next person go to booth 3 please."

Timothy walked up to the desk, gingerly stepping over a piece of gum stuck to the black floor. "One ticket to The Avengers please," he said, fishing a twenty dollar bill out of his pocket. Uncle David had been raving about this movie for weeks, and Timothy had finally decided to go see it. He had read a few avengers comics before, but he preferred real books.

Timothy collected his ticket as he slipped the change into his pocket. 30 minutes until the next showing. He walked around the main area of the theatre looking for a way to kill time until he movie started. As he walked through the arcade, his eye wandered over a machine that allowed the winner to receive a DVD or an MP3 player rather than a stuffed animal. Those things must be rigged, he thought. There's no way that they would let anyone get away with prizes like that.

He decided to go check out the concession stand and see if there was anything worth buying there. Jangling the coins in his pocket, he turned out of the arcade and headed towards the concession stand. As he walked, his mind began to wander. Didn't I read a webcomic about people working at a concession stand once? Man, that plot line was confusing...

As he got closer to the stand, he recognised two kids from his school. Unfortunately, he didn't know them very well. He had a few classes with one of them- his name was Cooper, right? He remembered that the other one, Kyran, had been suspended from school for a few weeks. Something about getting in a fight with Adonis Alba. While Timothy couldn't condone violence, he felt a little glad inside that someone had finally gotten tired of putting up with Alba's behaviour.

He decided to walk up and tell him that. Timothy sidled up to the concession stand and walked up to Kyran, offering his hand to shake.

"Hi Kyran, my name's Timothy. You, uh, probably don't know me, but I just wanted to thank you for standing up to Alba. It's nice to hear that someone's got the courage to try to teach him a lesson."

[[OOC: Alright, sorry for the long wait. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be really, very active from now on.]]

Kyran lifted his focus from his phone to a voice addressing him as D'man. There was only one guy he knew, who'd consistently refer to him with that nickname and sure enough, it was the same guy.

"Hello Cooper," he responded in his naturally impassive tone, along with a greeting nod of the head.

He knew Cooper from math class; pretty goofy kid. Kyran also remembered Cooper as being one of his teammates during his junior varsity years on the football team. They'd been on a similar boat back then. They were both pretty bantam in size compared to the other guys and weren't given much play time during any of the games, usually seated on the bench where they had a few small conversations, which he vaguely remembered. Eventually puberty gave Kyran some extra height in one massive growth spurt, which was quite gratifying for him. Unfortunately Cooper wasn't as lucky and Kyran guessed that it may have been a reason he dropped from the team and didn't try out again.

The first thing Cooper brought up was the whole thing with Alba in the cafeteria. It looked like that whole story made rounds throughout the school, as another kid came up to the concession counter, with the same idea, possibly after hearing Cooper bring it up.

It surprised Kyran to hear the boy introduce himself then thank and compliment him on the matter. It was one thing hearing something from someone semi-familiar, like Cooper, but to be approached and then praised by someone from his school, whom he barely knew, was definitely a different experience. Maybe Kyran was just a humble guy, but these kind of things always made him feel a bit timid. He just didn't know how to respond, especially around people he didn't know too well.

"Um, hey. I uh, don't really want to talk about it, but thanks anyway guys."

Kyran gave a closed smile and outstretched his hand after putting away his phone to accept Timothy's handshake, mostly out of necessity and good form.

"Didn't do much, though. I um, got him in the face with a ball of mash and mac-salad. He pushed me first so I pushed him back. Then Howie and Mr. Davidge pulled me away. But not before Double A left me with this..."

Kyran lifted his free hand and traced the vertical line of stitches on his bottom lip with his index finger. Then Kyran chuckled softly as he finished his story.

"I owe him one."

He leaned back onto the concession counter, smoothed out the wrinkles from his job uniform and took a large sip of the orange soda from his straw.

Cooper stared at Timothy like he had grown a second head.  'What a weird guy,' he thought as he took a sip of his drink.  What did Timmy expect out of this exchange?  Why would you walk up to someone you didn't know and congratulate them on getting in trouble?

What did that even mean, teach Alba a lesson?  Nothing penetrated Alba's thick head that he didn't want in there.  That's what got him kicked off the football team.  Everybody understood that threatening an official with violence is one of the worst things an athlete could do.  Everyone except Alba, obviously.

He really wanted to ask Timmy what lesson he thought Alba had learned.  Kyran was the one with the stitches, and neither of them was going to prom.  Not that that probably meant a lot of Alba since you couldn't go to prom shitfaced and score chicks at the dance. He imagined that Alba would just get drunk and score with some hapless sophomore girl at an after-party anyway.  That was generally Alba's M.O.

But Kyran said he didn't want to talk about it, so they wouldn't talk about it.  Because bringing things up after people asked you not to was a dick move.  They should move on to a much more pleasant topic.  There was only one really pleasant thing on Cooper's mind, and she had pouty lips and flaming red hair.

"So have you all seen the future Mrs. Komorowski?" he asked, not caring at all that it was a complete departure from their earlier conversation. It would be light-hearted and fun. Who didn't love Scarlett Johansson?

He nodded in what he hoped was a suave way. "She's in a little movie called 'The Avengers'. If you've gone to see it, thank you for contributing to our retirement fund."  Lacking a free hand, Cooper simply lifted his bag of popcorn up to his mouth and dipped his face into the bag, getting a mouthful of snack.  He looked expectantly at the other two.

Timothy felt a small rush of satisfaction as he saw Kyran smile at his compliment. He watched as Kyran gingerly fingered the stitches on his face before attempting to distance himself from that topic of conversation. Timothy smiled understandingly. The guy didn't really want to talk about it, but who could blame him? He did get suspended from school and banned from attending prom, from what Timothy heard, so it must not be a very pleasant memory for him. Besides, it isn't exactly a comfortable experience to get complimented by random strangers, Timothy reasoned. He decided to stop embarrassing the boy and let go of his hand.

As he looked up, Timothy felt any positive emotions that he had toward the current situation quickly disappear. The other boy at the stand was staring him with an expression of such confusion and annoyance that Timothy immediately had to avert his gaze. The smile quickly disappeared from his face as he swallowed nervously. Oops. He kicked himself inwardly for not realising how strange he was acting. The last thing he needed was more people staring at him. He looked up as the other boy began to begin another topic of conversation.

Timothy paused in confusion as he heard the boy speak. Mrs. Komorowski? As the boy continued, Timothy began to understand who he was talking about. Since Black Widow was the only female character in the main cast, he must have been talking of Scarlett Johansson. He thought for a moment. Of course... Timothy didn't recognise the boy, but his build suggested that he was some sort of athlete. Timothy sighed inwardly. It was great that movies like this were making obscure superheroes popular again, but unfortunately, it was becoming extremely popular among guys who watch only for the explosions and the women's bodies. What did uncle David say that was called again? Timothy's forehead crinkled as he remembered. Oh yeah, the Lowest Common Denominator.

As this conversation seemed to be going nowhere positive, (from his point of view, anyway), Timothy decided to extricated himself from it as quickly as possible. There was still a good 15 minutes until the previews began, but he figured that he had might as well spend it inside seat. Who knows, maybe there might be an interesting trailer?

Timothy looked back at the large boy. "Um, I guess," he said quickly. "I actually am going to see that movie right now. I just came to get some popcorn and I noticed you here." He gave a quick, nervous laugh before turning to the other concession stand worker.

"One medium popcorn and a small root beer please." He hoped that Kyran and the other boy weren't too annoyed with him. It was unlikely that they'd ever have a talk like this again, but it still wasn't good to get a reputation for being too nosy.

After he received his snacks, he turned to the two boys. "Well, it was nice talking to you, but I should, um, be getting to my movie now. See you 'round!" He lifted the hand holding his cup as if to wave, then walked quickly toward Room 9, where his film was about to start. As he was about to enter the room, he spared once last glance toward the two boys at the concession stand. Oh well, it's not like we could have much of a conversation, he rationalised. We probably don't have many common interests anyway... He soon reached a comfortable seat in the fourth row, those thoughts vanishing from his mind as he waited for the movie to begin.

Kyran was relieved when Cooper (now with nacho cheese on the sides of his mouth) changed the subject off him and his encounter with Alba to something else, thankfully concerning the movies, specifically Scarlett Johansson in the popular "Avengers" movie which had recently been released. It was the movie that was definitely keeping him busy in concession that was for sure.

Then just like that, Timothy began to laugh nervously and headed away, saying that he was actually going to be watching that exact movie. For some reason, Kyran felt guilty, for perhaps alienating the guy and called out a quick "Enjoy your movie", as he left as a good gesture. Then he turned his attention back to Cooper.

"I've seen 'The Avengers' movie before, working here I saw it for free though. Sorry I couldn't contribute to that retirement fund," Kyran said with a legitimate grin.

"And yeah, she's hot," he added; same answer he usually gave when approached with topics he didn't really talk much about. Just smile, nod and agree.

"You taking the future Mrs. Komorowski to the prom?" Kyran joked as he took another sip from his straw.

Cooper didn't say anything as Timmy walked off.  It was an awkward moment he didn't feel like extending by saying anything else.  Beside, Kyran had that part covered.  No one could find fault with the D-Man as an employee.

However, he was pretty thrilled that Kyran was humoring him with all this Scarlett Johansson talk.  He knew he was being goofy, but what good was hanging out with people you knew if you were all serious and stuff?  As his mother liked to remind him, you were only young once.

He could feel some of the popcorn flavoring getting crusty at the corner of his mouth.  He did his best to lick it off while nodding at Kyran's acknowledgment Scarlett Johansson's hotness.  "You know, I did ask her if she wanted to go to prom.  I told her, 'Baby, we'll do the whole thing: a corsage, limo ride, dinner at Red Lobster.'  You know, the works.  Because if you're going to take a girl to prom, you gotta do it right."

Cooper pulled at the neck of his Seahawks jersey, trying to pop his collar to show his swagger.  It was only after he attempted the gesture that he remembered this shirt didn't have a collar.  Also, he managed to spill some of the drink on himself.  He looked down at the dark wet spot on his chest. This was definitely the opposite of the image he was trying to project.

He grinned sheepishly at Kyran, trying to recover.  If you were going to talk mad game, you had to go full out.  "But, uh, anyway, she reminded me that she had work.  And you know, got to keep her working if we're gonna  have houses on at least three continents," he concluded with a confidence he didn't feel.

Time to wrap it up and bail. "I'mma dip because the big action sequence should be coming up.  Plus, I don't want to get you in any trouble at work, hanging out with friends while you're doing your thing.  I'll catch you later, maybe after my movie gets out.  Hit me up when you get off work, a'ight?"

With that, Cooper readjusted his grip on his drink and popcorn and headed back towards the theater.

Kyran chuckled quietly while drinking his orange soda as he listened to Cooper joke around and try to pull off some kind of swag act, which backfired on him. Cooper continued to talk a bit more, doing his best to regain composure, which amused Kyran even more. As he did his best to hold back a visible laugh, the top of his straw jabbed upward against the roof of his mouth, stopping his laugh more effectively than he could, himself.

"Ah, damn," Kyran mumbled softly to himself, throwing away his empty cup.

By then, Cooper was transitioning the conversation to make a quick getaway, using the movie as his reasoning, along with not wanting to distract him from work, even though Kyran was currently on break. He did however; offer to hang around later, so that was cool.

"No problem, I'm on break right..." he trailed off to check his clock. "Nevermind. Later Cooper."

Maybe it was being able to talk to an acquaintance he hadn't really spoken much with in a while, or that he met someone who had some nice things to say, but it seemed like that break time flew by quickly and he had to go back in, already. Whatever the case, it was a nice little chat which helped keep his mind off of other, more frustrating things.

He returned behind the concession counter and punched back in, ready to continue his monotonous serving of popcorn and soft drinks to the masses.
