Alex stared out the window, fidgeting in anticipation.

They're supposed to come any second now! God, she couldn't wait.

Halloween! Already small kids had shown up on their doorstep asking for sweets throughout the first few minutes. They had managed to decorate their house a few days ago too! Nothing too fancy, beyond two jack-o-lanterns, a few fake cobwebs, and a small witch ornament hanging from the door. But oh! Not only was there going to be trick-or-treaters! Some friends of hers were supposed to come over for the evening. They were supposed to watch movies and stuff! Alex had found some movies they could watch. If anything, they were silly movies, nothing too scary. Rocky Horror Picture Show, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Troll 2... she knew they couldn't probably watch them all that night, but perhaps they could get a vote down.

"Alex".

She spun around.

"They're coming soon, right?"

"Shush, Bill! Of course they're showing up!" she called to her brother.

Well, yeah, of course they would! They were her buddies, dang it! It would be rude of them if they didn't show up! Alex had dressed up and anything. It was an easy costume, actually. Cat ears and tail? Check. Two pieces of body-length cardboard painted pink and with red glitter? Check. Attach a rainbow piece of fabric to the cardboard? Got it!

Oh yeah. Nyan Cat was ready to roll for Halloween 2011. It wasn't the best Nyan Cat costume out there, certainly. But at least she tried. She wasn't sure if the others were going to dress up. Bill did, though. He had managed to dress as Meat Loaf as seen in Rocky Horror, and it wasn't bad actually. It was as if he knew she was considering watching it with them. Though, she did let him borrow her sax for his costume, as long as he cleaned the mouthpiece if he used it.

Her parents had taken Nathan and gone out, though they knew she was having friends over. Presumably they were taking Nathan to an event appropriate for a child his age, she was guessing. He was pretty young, though, so she didn't know what. But he did have a cute costume as well! He was a little pumpkin! That was cute, she had to admit.

"Bill. Do we have everything set up?" she asked.

"Of course we do!"

Alex's eyes gazed across the living room table. Some candy. The DVDs. A few chocolate cupcakes with orange frosting. The popcorn wasn't going to be made until they got here, just so it stayed hot for the movie.

"Alex. Just so you know, I'll try not to bug you and your friends too much. The kids are piling in anyways, and someone has to give them candy, right?"

"Right!"

She tore her eyes back towards the window. A pair of small children were bounding up to the house with their parents, one dressed as a small vampire and the other as a tiny witch. That was cute too, she had to admit. Sometimes she did worry about little kids about this time of year, seeing as she had heard the horror stories about what apparently happened on Halloween. Some of them were urban legends, of course, but it was still worth worrying sometimes. Hopefully their parents knew to check if the candy had been open beforehand and all that.

Alex watched as Bill gave them their candy after they had knocked on the door, a small smile on her face as they happily left.

But oh. Any second now! Her friends were going to pop up!

"Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange? Come with us and you will see, this our town of Halloween. THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN. Pumpkins scream in the dead of night. THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN. Everybody make a scene."

Claire was singing the classic Danny Elfman song as she drove over to Alex Ripley's house. Claire loved Halloween. She loved the costumes, she loved the candy, she loved the decor, she loved the atmosphere, and she loved the general joy people felt from the season.

Oh yeah, and she LOVED the movies.

Claire was always one to be critical of horror movies, especially those of recent years that relied on jump scares and blue filters. However, she loved a viewing party, even if the movie was complete shit. There was something about sitting in front of a TV and giving a movie the old MST3K treatment that just made life really fun.

Alright, this is going to be an awesome night. Did Alex say what we were watching? Crap, I should have been listening. Oh, that girl looks so pretty dressed as Princess Tiana. Okay, I'm almost at Alex's house. Ooh, that house has some cool lights. Man, I hope everyone likes my costume.

For Halloween, Claire always tried to go out of her way to try and dress in a fashion that would make her look neat. In previous years, she had been various characters, from Hermione Granger to Lisbeth Salander. This year, she decided to try and do a bit of cosplaying, simply because she hadn't tried an anime costume before.

She did some research of various anime series. She had seen quite a share of anime, mostly stuff passed down from her brother. She also looked up some popular series she had read about on the internet, while also browsing some cosplay websites. She decided it would be better to find as simple a costume as possible, one with a bit of fun to it and comfort so she could sit on the floor without hassle.

And that is why she decided to go to the party dressed as Mio Akiyama from K-On!

It wasn't that difficult to accomplish actually. The black dress wasn't too difficult to find, Target had some simple black dresses at reasonable prices. Claire would have liked to have a more authentic and exact dress, but this was just for a party, and she didn't need to be exact. Her friends wouldn't care, so she decided to not worry.

The rest of the outfit wasn't too difficult. Light blue stockings, black high heels, and a makeup pencil for the three small marks under the eye were easy enough to come across. She even found a cane in her attic to carry as a prop. As for the sleeve, she found a pair of black and blue stockings and chopped the end off one of the socks to stretch across her right arm.

The only difficult part was the hat. Claire had to search a few sites to find the hat, and eventually found a headband that held a hat similar to Mio's. The only thing left was the wig. Claire thought of it, but ultimately decided against the wig. Her natural brown hair was about as long as Mio's, and styled remarkably close. Why not let it flow naturally?

Anyways, Claire had just arrived at Alex's house, and it was time to go party. Claire parked the car in front of Alex's house and proceeded to grab her purse and cane. She opened the car door and made her way up to Alex's door, passing a few trick-or-treaters on the way.

Man, I forgot how annoying heels are. Oh well, mask the pain, try to be happy tonight. Okay, let's get ready to party.

Claire knocked on the door a few times. Suddenly, the door opened, and standing before her was a saxophone clad motorcyclist. Claire put both of her hands on the top of her cane.

"Hey Eddie. Is Alex here?" Claire asked Bill.

Halloween.

It was Halloween!

Corey stood in front of a mirror, just inside the house. He looked himself up and down, marveling at the costume he had on. Oh, it was a complicated one alright. He almost decided against it; he didn't want to give his aunt an unnecessary bother. But he asked, and to his surprise, she agreed to make it. Corey smiled. It was good to have an aunt who was a tailor. He checked to make sure everything was in order. Corey didn't want to have his entrance ruined by an obvious oversight on his costume or anything. Once he made sure everything was straight, he headed out the door.

What was his costume? Oh, Corey didn't take long to think of this one. He was Ezio Auditore da Firenze, protagonist of Assassin's Creed II. Oh yeah, it took his aunt a while to make the costume, but as soon as it was finished, as soon as he saw it, he knew this one would be good. He could have bought the costume online, but no. That would have felt like cheating, and Corey didn't cheat. Not at video games, and certainly not at costumes of video game characters. Corey was amazed at how authentic the costume looked (although none of the weapons were real, his parents would have a simultaneous heart attack if they were).

Luckily, Alex's house was just a short walk away. Thank God because the costume was actually kind of heavy. This was going to be a great party. All his friends were going to be there, and they were going to be watching some movies. Corey briefly wondered what kind of movies they would be watching.

Knowing Alex, probably something real silly. Not that that's a bad thing.

As he reached the driveway of Alex's house, he noticed another person at the front door of the house. He could see who it was very well, but it was a crazy costume at least. Was she here for the party? He could see her talking to Bill, so Corey assumed so.

"Sup!" he called, as he neared the door, "I'm not late to the party, am I?"

Oswaldo Marx made his way down the street, his hands jammed in his pockets, a chill running down his spine. It was a chill autumn night- and despite his baggy sweater the cold was still cutting into him, sending him into sporadic shivering fits as he turned onto Alex's street.

Oswaldo pulled his cell from his pocket, flicking it open and checking the time.

Oh, a few minutes past five. Splendid. If I only remembered when she asked me over in the first place...

Grumbling to himself, Oswaldo spend up his walk, jamming his phone back into his baggy sweater pockets. Ahead of him, a girl dressed like a pumpkin was making her way down the street, her Father trailing close behind him.

Oswaldo straightened his back, moving to one side of the sidewalk, lowering his head as they passed by.

"Evenin'..." He mumbled. Neither looked at him as they passed by, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Wow. As awkward as that was, still better than I anticipated.

Oswaldo gave another sigh and walked on, his shoulders slumped. He was in a bad mood, and even with his best acting skills he knew he wouldn't be able to hide that from his friends for long. Alex would probably bug him until he spilled the dirty details.

Not that they were especially dirty. They were more along the lines of embarrassing.

Halloween was, for almost every kid, a fun holiday. Who didn't like free candy? Oswaldo loved candy. And yet, he had always dreaded the day. While the other kids in elementary bought expensive costumes and makeup, Oswaldo didn't need to go to such dramatic lengths. Hell, he didn't even need to buy a costume.

Last year, he was Jekyll and Hyde. This year, he was still in the process of deciding if he was Two-Face, or a Burn Victim. Oswaldo pulled his hands out of his pockets, rubbing them together as he walked to generate some heat.

He didn't have to look to know where the burns started. The middle of his left hand, a line stitching down his palm, his wrist, disappearing underneath his clothing. Oswaldo felt a heavy pang in his chest, just thinking on it. Feeling his face turning red with embarrassment he put up his hood, lowering his head until he could only see his feet moving in front of him.

A car zoomed by, and Oswaldo raised his head up. He watched as the car came to a stop in front of Alex Ripley's house, a girl in a black dress with a funny looking hat perched on her head emerging from the vehicle. Oswaldo stopped for a second and squinted.

Oh, that's Claire.

That brightened his mood considerably. Claire had always been nice to him, in her own way. She was crazy into films, true, but almost everything she said was interesting. Despite his sour mood, Oswaldo knew he wouldn't be able to stay like that for long, with people like Claire and Alex for company.

Looks like I'm going to have to give up being cynical. Feh. Who doesn't like free candy?

Oswaldo walked up the driveway, behind Claire. Already he saw that Claire had knocked on the door, and Bill, Alex's brother, had answered. He gave them a lame wave as he walked up the path toward the front of the house.

Oh. Wait, diabetics. Diabetics wouldn't like free candy... Yes...

"Hi Claire. Hey Bill." He said. "I hope I'm not late?"

Another voice called out, and Oswaldo turned his head. He smirked as Corey made his way up the drive-way, dressed in a very flamboyant get-up.

Oh, Assassin's Creed. He's from that video game. Figures!

Os gave him an equally lame wave, but couldn't hide his amusement at the costume.

"Hey Corey. Didn't see you there."

As a few more trick-or-treaters came and went, Alex continued to excitedly wait.

Any second now!

Yet another knock came at the door, and Bill opened it.

A voice piped up, calling Bill "Eddie" and asking if she was there. Alex knew that voice! She burst from her spot and to the door as best as she could indoors and with two pieces of cardboard attached to her. Claire! Yes, Claire had managed to show up. Not only Claire, but Corey and Ozzy were showing up as well! Claire seemed to be dressed as an anime character she forgot the name of. What's her name? Mia? She was from KON or something, right? The one with the girls who are in a band? She was sure that her name wasn't Mia... oh, Mio! Yeah, that was her name. Alex wasn't a big anime fan, though she did watch a few whenever some of her friends had one on and some of it looked interesting. Corey was Ezio, as in, the character from the Assassin's Creed video game series, and it looked amazing. Ozzy went as himself. He was never really a big Halloween fan, that she knew of. But could you blame him?

"Hey guys! Nice timing!" she called out behind Bill.

"Gee Alex. Take my job, will you?" her brother said.

Alex didn't reply to that. Rather she said "Come in, everyone! There's plenty of treats on the coffee table if you want any!"

She and Bill stepped aside to let them in.

"I found four movies we could watch. I don't think we can watch them all tonight, so I thought that we could come to a vote on which ones to watch. Also, Bill here-" she gestured to her brother. "-says he won't mess with us too much, by the way. But yeah!"

This. Was. Going. To. Be. So. Much. FUN!

Alex could barely stop herself from clapping her hands in excitement.

Chuck had been quite proud of his costume. The base of it, the RED soldier costume itself, he'd acquired last year, but the helmet and the materials he needed to make the fake grenades had arrived a couple of days late, so he'd had to go as a boring old zombie (and that outfit just involved an old zombie mask with an odd odour and an old second-hand white shirt with gratuitous amounts of fake blood applied to it) instead. Luckily, he hadn't grown much in the past year (well, it wasn't exactly a good thing, but being below-average in terms of height had its uses!), so he was able to just bring it out of the closet, dust it down and put it on again for this year's Halloween party at Alex's house.

But at the last minute, surprise TF2 update. With Halloween outfits. And the Soldier's outfit was so easy to make....

Yet so simultaneously awesome.

His faith in the world restored for the night by the incredible luck, Chuck had just needed to spend an hour at the most updating and refining his costume to give him that shitty costume look. A cardboard box. Easy to find. Tie an old metal coat-hanger to the top of it, tape on two red (well, orange-y red) plastic cups to the front (Annabel's own Halloween Party could survive without them) for eyes, place it on his head, strategically placing it at a slightly awkward angle so he could see through the gap he'd cut in it for his eyes, and voila! His very own Idiot Box!

The Shoestring Budget was even easier. Shoeboxes with holes in them. Easy. Emulating the Steel Pipes was the hardest bit. It took some time before he found a pair of decent, roughly symmetrical aluminium dryer hoses that would fit around his arms and the costume without scratching or ripping something. But he succeeded. And there he was.

He looked like a complete dick.

Mission accomplished.

"Hey Bill", he said, as he stepped into the house, temporarily abandoning the poor attempt at impersonating Rick May impersonating a crazed mass murdering war-obsessed nutjob from America's heartland impersonating an impassionate, heartless robot. He then turned to greet each one of his friends who was also there in turn. "Hey Oswaldo, hey Corey, hey Claire, hey Alex!"

Oh damn. He was envious of Corey's costume so much.

Right as Claire introduced herself to Meat Loaf, she was surprised by the arrivals of a few others. Coming up first was Oswaldo. He didn't have a costume on, but Claire decided to not bug him about it. Halloween costumes require a lot of time and effort. You either buy all the materials you can or make it yourself. Even the Mio costume Claire was wearing cost over $50, mostly due to the cost and shipping of the hat. Plus, they were in a recession, so Claire decided to simply greet Oswaldo.

Coming up behind Oswaldo was Corey. Claire had to admit, Corey looked badass. That Ezio costume looked so authentic. If he was at a convention, people would probably take lots of pictures of him.

Note to self, if an anime convention comes to Seattle, recycle this outfit for that.

Alex arrived at the door and immediately greeted the three travelers, inviting them into the house and pointing out the treats on the coffee table. Claire's mouth hung open at the sight of Alex's costume. Claire studied the Nyan Cat outfit from head to toe. The colors painted on the cardboard, the cat ears, the tail Alex taped on the back. Claire had only one thought.

Pure. Fucking. ART!

"Alex-nyan! It's so good to see you!" shouted Claire as she ran in and hugged Alex, which was admittedly kind of hard to do with the Nyan Cat costume.

"Oh man, I am so excited for tonight," said Claire as she walked into the living room, twirling her cane. "Let's see what we got."

Claire found the DVDs on the table. She quickly shuffled through them as she thought about their choices.

Okay, I've seen Troll 2 and Rocky Horror before. I do remember a few of the callbacks from Rocky Horror and memorized a few of the Rifftrax lines for Troll 2. Those might be fun to watch, especially if none of these guys have seen them. Okay, Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Hmm, I haven't seen that yet. Man, what have I been watching recently? Oh yeah, Moneyball, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, fucking Wild Strawberries. I think I'd rather watch something I'm familiar with. Ooh, Dracula: Dead and Loving it. Leslie Nielsen as Dracula, God rest his soul. Hmm, wonder what everyone else thinks.

Claire set the DVDs back on the table and turned back to the others. Chuck had just arrived in his, for a lack of a better word, costume.

Oh wait, that's a Team Fortress 2 thing. Man, I haven't played that in a while. Well, Chuck sure is ambitious.

"Well, we are an odd mix of genres and appearances," Claire said.

Claire turned to Corey and began to push her arms out in front of him, even though he wasn't standing too close to her.

"Look out Ezio, I'm a peasant, and I'm about to completely fuck up your assassination attempt! Hehe. I've got a million of them."

Tonight is going to kick so much ass. Wonder who else is going to show up?

Gray pushed his foot the floor to keep his momentum up. He couldn't remember the time he was meant to be at Alex's so he had decided that it would be best to assume he was late and speed up. The idea of going to a Halloween party had seemed like a good idea to Gray until he realised that he didn't actually have a costume or any idea what he was going to wear. Gray had ended up going for the costume that was simplest but still looked cool. So after throwing so fake blood on an old hoodie and an old pair of shorts he was ready to be a Hunter from Left 4 Dead.

He had ended up with some real blood mixed in after he had decided to try and jump some stairs in the dark without realising how many there had been. The last one had caught him unaware to say the least. So he had a cut up knee and some of his fingers were gashed. So he looked more like a Hunter now than when he had left his house.

He casually lent to one side to turn the corner that led to Alex's house. They were all meeting up to hang out, eat food and laugh at bad movies. It would be a good night. He could just about see people gathering outside Alex's house so he guessed he was probably on time. He could make out someone dressed as the main character from Assassins Creed. The costume looked pretty cool; it had a cape and everything. It put his costume to shame that was for sure. Then as he got close they went into the house.

Damnit

He hopped up onto the curb and cruised towards the front door. He slid to a stop just in front of the door.

Perfect stop.

As he dismounted the board he looked around. No one else looked to be arriving so he got to enter on his own. He stepped on the tail of the board and caught it as it flipped up. It always sucked to be the one person to arrive after everyone else because then everyone is acutely aware of the fact that you were late. But since most of his friends were people who were exceptionally laid back it wouldn't matter.

Well better let them know I'm out here.

He knocked on the door and hoped that the group he had seen walk in weren't late themselves. Otherwise this had the potential to be awkward.

Corey raised his hood up when he heard a voice he was sure hadn't come from the girl at the door. He saw Os at the door as well, which was weird, because he hadn't seen him come up to the door before him. Maybe the hood actually was obscuring his vision more than he thought. So, he pulled his hood down. He didn't look as cool, but at least he could see. Oh, yeah, it was Claire at the door. Well dang. He'd have to ask what she was supposed to be. He had seen it somewhere before but he couldn't... quite... remember...

"Heyo Os, Claire," he said, smiling.

Then Alex came to the door with two coloured pieces attached to her. She was Nyan Cat...? Oh, man that was awesome! Corey couldn't help but laugh.

"That is an awesome costume, Alex!"

Corey stepped inside the house after the others. Aw man, this was going to be an awesome party. Claire was looking through the DVDs, and Corey caught a glimpse of the titles from where he was standing.

He had to admit, he'd never actually seen any of those movies, but he heard at least a bit about each of them. Not that it mattered, because watching it for the first time probably meant that he was going to enjoy it even more.

He happened to turn around at the same time that Chuck entered the house with his... uh... costume. Corey at least could tell what he supposed to be, though. He was the Soldier from TF2. More specifically, he was wearing the Tin Soldier item set. Didn't that update just come out?

"Yo, Chuck."

Claire turned towards him, holding her arms out in front of him.

"Look out Ezio, I'm a peasant, and I'm about to completely fuck up your assassination attempt! Hehe. I've got a million of them."

Corey laughed at that.

Aw man, he couldn't wait for the others to show up.

*knock* *knock*

((Wow, for the longest time I was checking the wrong forum for someone to post in this thread. T____T))

Oswaldo felt out of place. Nearly everyone else had taken the opportunity to dress in elaborate costumes, to have a good time. Comparatively, he'd spent the walk over acting childish and moping.

Time and a place for that. Come on, cheer up. Alex has been planning this for awhile. Besides, she has food inside. You remember food. You love food!

...I guess we should just head inside now?

Oswaldo wasn't the first to arrive and he wasn't the last. A sudden influx of people were piling through the doors to Alex's house. Oswaldo greeted them with a wave before turning and heading inside, finding a couch to sit down in. His previous foul mood almost entirely evaporated, Oswaldo helped himself to some snacks while he waited for the rest to filter in and find a spot to sit. Claire, dressed to the nines as some sort of witch, was busy pouring over the DVDs. Picking up a cupcake covered in orange frosting, Oswaldo took a hefty chunk out of it, savoring the taste of chocolate chips.

I can't believe Alex went as an internet meme... and I can't believe she's such a good cook. Holy God, these are amazing!

He nearly helped himself to another before hesitating at the thought of how piggish he would appear. Instead Os reached for a DVD next to the cupcakes, flipping it over to read the back cover.

"Killer Klowns..." He said, his eyebrows arching as he looked toward Claire. "Uh. I don't suppose this one won many Oscars, right?"

Oswaldo had never been a fan of super corny movies. But Alex was to the far end of the dork scale where cult movies flourished and grew in abundance. Putting the DVD back down, Oswaldo looked at the other choices. Behind him, Corey and Chuck filtered into the room in their elaborate costumes.

Well. Corey had an elaborate costume. It was clear that his friend was having the time of his life, his body language even mimicking Ezio. Oswaldo had played the ever living shit out of Assassin's Creed II, but compared to Corey he was a mere amateur at the game.

Chuck on the other hand?

"Chuck, what the hell are you supposed to be?" Oswaldo said, laughing at his friend. "You look like... I don't even know what you look like. One ugly-ass robot. Even my costume is better than yours!"

Oswaldo grinned, looking at his friend with a playful smile.

"One night of the year you get to dress up, and you manage to completely mess it up man."

Alex was immediately greeted by a hug from Claire, and she smiled a bit more. Seriously, it was good to see her too! Her and everyone else.

She thought that Corey's was a lot better than hers, to be honest. All Alex really did was paint cardboard and put glitter on it, get some cat ears and tail, and find a piece of fabric. Corey's? Corey's looked amazing. She wondered how he got it to look so awesome!

"Yours is awesome too, Corey!" Alex said, and saw what appeared to be... a robot made of cardboard?

She squinted a little bit. Wasn't that a TF2 thing? She tilted her head to the side slightly. Yeah, it was. Huh. Something recent with TF2, she recalled. Then it spoke.

Chuck! Yay! He had shown up!

"Hey Chuck!" Alex called out.

The kids went inside, and piled into the living room. Claire began to playfully mess around with Corey, saying that she was going to mess up his assassination attempt.

But hey. Killer Klowns may not have been an Oscar winner. Far from it. Still, though. Killer Klowns was awesome. How could you not appreciate alien clowns wrapping people up in cotton candy and drinking their blood? Only... god, she didn't know. Only someone silly would not appreciate that.

It got slightly awkward, however, when Ozzy kind of laughed at Chuck's costume. It was as if he didn't recognize it, and thought he was simply being lazy. Alex didn't exactly recognize it, but she had a basic idea of what he was trying to be.

"Isn't Chuck something from TF2?" she asked.

Right at that moment, there was a knock at the door.

"I'll get it" Bill called out, and she heard the door open.

"Hey Alex. This is another one of your friends, right?"

With that, Alex burst towards the door again.

"Hey Gray!"

So Ozzy thought his costume looked lazy, amateurish, and badly put together.

Excellent.

Chuck couldn't be more pleased. He lifted the "hat" from his head to reveal a cheeky, accomplished smirk. "It was meant to look god-awful. The fact I put the...robot elements of the costume together in", he paused, staring at the ceiling, to try and recall exactly how long it'd taken him to cut holes in some cardboard and tape some stuff to other stuff. Two hours was a reasonable estimate, but he didn't want to look like he'd put TOO much effort in successfully crafting this artistically poor - and surprisingly not THAT uncomfortable - costume. "Took about one hour. Took some time to find the junk needed."

That was technically a white lie, but...well, one hour IS roughly the same as two hours, in the grand scheme of things. Although it's not good timekeeping to say that, he could make a strong case it was a valid description. And therefore all he'd committed was a favourite trick of the few honest politicians out there; twisting the truth.

He then realised he was having a mental debate about saying an hour instead of two hours in response to a question no-one asked.

Snap out of it, Chuck.

"But, yeah. It's a TF2 thing. As you can see from the costume underneath the robot stuff." Chuck was of the opinion the costume underneath the robot crap was actually quite good, although it wasn't actually difficult. "But yeah, in another REALLY awesome move, Valve released these Halloween outfit things for each class. The Soldier's is a really bad robot outfit. It even gives him unique voice files and stuff!"

He got dangerously close to getting into a long and pointless monologue about how awesome TF2 was and how everyone in the room who wasn't playing it already should be ashamed of themselves...which is exactly how they should feel. There was no excuse not to partake in the awesomeness that was Team Fortress 2. Cost was no reason. Neither was time. And the possibility that someone would not derive the same pleasure from spamming arrows or setting sticky bomb traps as Chuck did was...inconceivable.

But, luckily, Chuck recognised he was getting close into the territory of rambling about stuff that wasn't relevant to anyone else, so he stopped himself from saying another sentence about that sort of thing, and instead asked a fairly boring question they'd all already probably been asked that night; "So, how's everyone else's costume?"

Oh good, Corey laughed at that joke. Claire learned early on in her life that if she was going to spice her life up with referential humor, she better be certain a lot of people would understand the joke. At least an Assassin's Creed fan like Corey would get the joke, and the crowd here probably would have gotten it.

She turned back to the couch where she set the DVDs down. Oswaldo was sitting on the couch looking at Killer Klowns from Outer Space and feasting on one of Alex's orange frosted cupcakes.

"Killer Klowns...Uh. I don't suppose this one won many Oscars, right?"

"Nope. Must have been too low class for the Academy. But at the same time, I bet it's too redeemable for the Golden Raspberries."

Claire took a seat on the couch next to Oswaldo, grabbing a cupcake before crossing her legs.

"So, these cupcakes any good Osvaldo?"

She stressed the "v" as she said that. Claire always found foreign and uncommon names fascinating, and would try to pronounce them in their original tongue. The "v" gave Ozzy's name that extra kick to make it all the more awesome.

Chuck then entered the room in his bizarro TF2 costume. Oswaldo spoke up.

Chuck, what the hell are you supposed to be? You look like... I don't even know what you look like. One ugly-ass robot. Even my costume is better than yours! One night of the year you get to dress up, and you manage to completely mess it up man.

Claire giggled briefly.

"Hey man, this economy has been tough on all of us. I had to cut back to renting only three DVDs a week instead of the usual seven."

Luckily, it seemed like Chuck was in good spirits about the whole costume thing. She was glad about that. Like her Assassin's Creed joke, Claire hoped that Oswaldo's comment could be taken in its original intent, and it seems like that's exactly what happened.

Chuck began to describe his outfit. Claire assumed that if it took him a bit of time to say how long it took to make the costume, then he clearly put a lot of effort in it. An hour may not be a lot of effort, but it's more effort than the ten seconds it took to cut the bottom of the striped stocking to make an armband and the two minutes it took to make the face markings.

As she began to unwrap her cupcake, Claire saw Gray enter the room.

Sweet, a bloody Todd in the Shadows. Nice choice.

So, how's everyone else's costume?

"Oh, I'm pretty good. I made myself a fairly inexpensive cosplay outfit. I probably saved about $700 compared to what people can spend on super detailed outfits."

Claire began to fiddle with the hat on her head.

"But I especially love this hat. I just might wear it to school in place of my usual beret."

She then took a bite out of the cupcake, smearing orange frosting on her upper lip.

"Holy shit," Claire said as she had a big piece of cake in her mouth, "these are fucking awesome. Alex, you should go on Cupcake Wars. I mean it. Do it."

The door was opened by Alex who was dressed up as Nyan Cat. It was pretty good costume, but then compared to Gray's costume anything looked good. Plus Gray never had been able to tell what looked good when it came to Halloween costumes. Like most people he was good at telling which costumes you could buy looked cheap and ugly but apart from that he was pretty useless.

"Hey Alex, your costume looks good."

He meant it too. He'd never have thought of going as Nyan Cat. He thought it was a pretty original idea.

"Ummm where do you want me to put my board?"

It was probably for the best that it got put in a safe place and not with its wheels down. That just led to accidents, funny slapstick accidents but not everyone was as used to falling over as Gray was. It was an acquired skill. He looked around as he moved further into Alex's house. He spotted the person wearing the Assassins Creed costume and recognised Corey. Gray thought that he should have been able to guess that it was Corey but he was too busy looking at the costume itself. It looked so well made that he thought that it had to have been done by a professional.

He could make out Chuck wearing a costume that he assumed was meant to be a purposely bad robot costume because there was no way something could suck that badly and be serious. Claire was dressed as...a Goth girl he guessed and then there was Oz who wasn't in a costume. Gray couldn't help shaking his head and grinning as he entered the living room.

"Hey guys."

He worked his way through the room until he reached Oz who was analysing the DVD's that were available for viewing.

"Hey Oz, don't tell anyone else this but I think your costume is the best." He said as he picked up a cupcake. "Also I think I may be bleeding, not sure though."

Gray had known everyone in the room for a long time now, well maybe not quite as long for Claire but for everyone else it was a long time. He'd always got on well with Oz though, Gray was never sure how their friendship really worked but it did. Then again it was like that with everyone in their group of friends. They had known each other for so long that the friendships all just kind of worked. It was laid back group of friends which suited him fine. It always produced a good atmosphere, like the one that was in the room currently. It made everyone feel like they could be themselves.

"What DVD's we got anyway?"

Ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapoh CRAAAAAAP! One halloween party the entire year and I'm going to be late to it like a complete dork! Curse you, Youtube, and your powers of distraction!

Sean Mulcahy ran down the road as though a marginal amount of respect and popularity depended on it. His costume made it somewhat difficult to run, though not because of the complexity of the thing. The short boy was clad in a full suit, including the tie and shoes, the stiffness of which was making running a pain. Still, it would be worth it when he showed up to Alex's party... that is, if he wasn't too late.

Keeping a tight hold of the paper mask on a stick that made the costume complete, Sean sprinted down the sidewalk in what was the last home stretch towards Alex's house. Things would have been a whole lot easier if he had been wearing his sneakers, but one couldn't tarnish internet perfection. The boy kept his sights set ahead, just waiting for the Ripley driveway to come into view as he expected. When it did, he let his panting the form of mini-sighs of relief and slowed his pace to a plodding jog, then finally a walk.

Oh man... please don't be mad...

Sean stepped up the driveway, appreciating the fact his shoes were no longer seemingly conspiring to kill him, and approached the front steps of the house. When he reached them, he simply opened the door and walked right on in. He had done it before; Alex hadn't seemed to mind then. Maybe her brother did, but eh... he was cool enough about things, he'd deal.

"Sorry I'm late, guys," Sean stammered as he entered the house. Most of the others were already here, meaning he was probably a little on the later side... not one of his prouder moments. Everybody's costume looked pretty good, though; Alex was making him happy with fellow meme-tasticness, Claire's was pretty (whatever it was), and Chuck's was hilarious on a meta-level. "Few, uh, last minute adjustments needed to be made. But... augh... who am I?" Sean lifted the paper mask on a stick up to his face, showing everybody a depiction of 'trollface'. Clearing his throat, he then let out a hearty and melodious "Troooooooooloooololoooooool".
