Onslaught Redux

Return to the Warehouse

A large, and old warehouse. The corners are covered with cobwebs, and there are a few cracks in the flooring showing its old age. This would make a great meeting place for any group, because of the table, chairs, random knickknacks, and all the tools.

(Coming From the Waterfall.)

The warehouse was a place that held a lot of memories for Jill Gatling. It was here that she had first met up with the duo of Adam Dodd and Martyn Ferdinand and joined in their endeavor to save two young ladies by the name of Amanda and Madelaine. Those two were now deceased, and as much as Jill had tried to deny the fact, Danya’s last announcement had all but confirmed it for certain. Things had changed so much in the time that had gone by since she had left this place the first time, in the moments after yesterday’s announcement had been made. Only the day before, they had been forced into a hasty evacuation from the area by Adam, and they had retreated to the river. That place had been the burial ground of the other two women in their company and the last time that Jill had seen Adam.

Now, she, Martyn, and their newfound group had once again returned to the warehouse, this time in hopes of finding something to aide them in their escape plan, or, if nothing else, allow themselves a decent amount of shelter and protection until Martyn could initiate his escape plan. She had trekked off ahead of the group again, and was currently taking the opportunity to scout out the area for others who may have decided to come to an area that had previously been a danger zone. The area seemed clear enough, and Jill turned back again to look behind her, searching for her companions.

On the rooftop, Luca Donovan, Girl #69, watched intently as the new face entered the vicinity. She had been bidding her time since the game started, and had managed to survive a week without encountering much of anyone. When Danya had made the sixth announcement and announced that this place was clear, Luca had scurried here. Up here, on this rooftop, nobody could see her. On the contrary, she had a terrific vantage point of them. Now, Luca slithered across the rooftop on her stomach, pointing her designated weapon, a handgun, at Jill.

Jill Gatling was a girl that Luca had never cared for in school to begin with. Jill had been popular, a sporty girl, and she had made good grades. She had been one of the successful students, the kind of girl that Luca could never have been. Luca had been cold, frigid, and shunned by everyone except her “followers” because of her intimidating personality. Now, that had all changed though. Now, Luca had the opportunity to take the lives of those that she did not like in school, and she had every intention of playing this game. Scooting closer to the edge of the roof, Luca pointed her gun at Jill, aimed, and without hesitation, pulled the trigger.

The next few seconds seemed to go by in slow motion. Jill had not been aware of the presence of another person when she had first entered the vicinity of the warehouse. As the sound of a gunshot rang out from the roof, however, she had become fully aware that she had made a dangerous mistake. Had the shot from Luca’s gun hit where Luca had aimed it, Jill would have been dead in that instant. Instead, because Luca’s aim was far from perfect, the bullet had strayed off course. A warm, burning sensation overtook Jill’s left arm as the bullet tore through her shoulder, sending her into a spin before she finally fell to the ground. Clutching her shoulder in agony, Jill glanced upward, trying in vain to see who had fired the shot.

Luca took the instant to scoot away from the edge of the roof, almost beyond view. She had taken a chance by firing at the other girl, especially with being unaware of what sort of arms Jill possessed. When she did not return fire, however, Luca was sure that she was not given a gun. Slowly, Luca began climbing down from the roof. She had taken her bullet going off course as a sign, she should not kill Jill from up here. Instead, Luca began her descent with the intention of ending Gatling's life with Jill knowing full well who her murderer was.

What Luca had not counted on, and in reality had never even thought of, was the fact that Jill may not be alone. Jill had by now forced herself back onto her feet, still clutching her shoulder tightly. There was no way she was going to die like that, shot by some unknown figure in the shadows. Turning back toward the pathway to the warehouse, Jill called out to the rest of the group, who had to have been coming by now. She had to warn them.

"Be careful!" Jill shouted, hoping they could hear her by now, "There's someone here! They've got a gun!"

Gritting her teeth in anger and frustration, Jill retreated back into the bushes, searching for her attacker. All things considered, they were not in good standings. Yes, Martyn had a gun, but it was the most useful weapon any of the three had, and if the shooter had stayed on the roof, they would all be standing down in the open like sitting ducks. Leaning up against a tree, Jill scowered the area, trying desperately to locate the shooter.

((Gilbert continued from Game Start: B#76)

In the thicket of bushes to the left of Jill's position, and out of the sight line of Luca Donovan, Boy #76, Gilbert Archambault crouched inside of a bush, trying his hardest not to be seen. After his near-death experience at the Eastern Shore, Gilbert had tried VERY hard to avoid any and everyone, knowing that it was only because of the pity of Adam Dodd that he was alive, and as things would go, Gilbert figured himself for dead pretty soon.

I'm just not cut out for this game! It's not fair! If it were lawn bowling or billiards or something, I'd be fine, but a fight to the death? Yeah, right!

Gilbert'd been passing by the Warehouse when he'd heard the shots, and he'd instantly jumped into the nearest bush, keeping very low to the ground (easy to do due to his height) and trying to see what was happening. From what he saw, a girl who he'd not noticed who'd been on top of the roof had shot another one entering the area from a pathway that Gilbert himself had just about walked down.

That's lucky - I'd be dead if I'd walked on that path...

Glancing out again, Gilbert watched as the now-wounded girl on the ground began trying to crawl back towards the bushes, yelling out to someone else. Apparently, this girl was not alone. Looking back to the warehouse again, Gilbert tried to get a look at the form that was climbing down the warehouse ladder. Squinting his eyes, he was barely able to make out the features of Luca Donovan.

Shit, of all the people...

Luca hadn't been one of Gilbert's favourite people in school (then again, nobody had really liked her, but...) due to the fact that her and her 'clique' had bullied him on countless occasions, with nobody ever stepping in to do anything about it, sans one occasion when a kid in a wheelchair 'accidentally' ran over one of his assailants one lunch-hour. Luca, however, had not stopped, and her and her group tormented him every day right up until the school trip.

"Go on the trip, make some friends" was the advice that his mother had given to him, but had Gilbert known that Luca was going on the trip, he never would have gone in the first place.

Irony that the bitch would have saved my life...

Scowling, Gilbert couldn't just stay and watch the girl on the ground get senselessly murdered by the girl in school he hated the most. He HAD to do something...but what?

Come on, Gilbert. You look like you're twelve. You're not a fast runner, you're not strong, and you've got bad eyesight. What can I possibly do? It's Survival of the Fittest, and if hiding is what I have to do to survive...

It was then that Gilbert remembered the pistol that he was holding in his hands. He'd been carrying it for show - for he'd never fired one and had no idea how to do it. He assumed it was pretty easy - point at pull the trigger, but that was simply from what he knew coming from movies.

Maybe...if I fire it, she'll get scared and like...run away or something. I CAN blend in pretty well...maybe she won't find me...

His hesitation turned to urgency. On one hand, if he fired his pistol, he'd almost surely miss, and then Luca would know he was in the area and come after him, almost surely leading to his demise. If he didn't, the girl could die, and it would be his fault.

Ultimately, Gilbert Archambault knew that if there was one thing that his mother taught him, it was to help people in need, no matter what the cost, and no matter what they'd done to you. If he didn't do something, his mother would never be able to forgive him for standing by and watching a defenseless person die.

Oh god, what am I even doing...?

Raising the pistol, and shakily aiming it towards the latter that Luca was climbing down, Gilbert tried steadying himself, took a deep breath, and pulled back the trigger, sending a bullet flying towards the ladder, and surprising him from the recoil. Not even looking to see if he hit anything, Gilbert stuck his head down and tried not to move a muscle.

Why do I have the feeling that I'm going to regret that...?

The trek to the warehouse from the waterfall had been longer than he had figured it to be – but perhaps it was because he hadn’t noticed off long he had traveled in that short time with Jill after they had first met back at this place. From this place to the river, to the field, and finally to the waterfall. And his mind had been so occupied with other things, how far they had traveled in the short time.

Humming a soft tune under his breathe he continued along through the brush that surround about the warehouse, head down toward the ground when a familiar scream filled the air as someone shouted;

"There's someone here! They've got a gun!"

Well… fuck

Drawing his own pistol from his uniform pants he moved forward, he knew he was the only member of there little group that had a decent weapon that could probably do any real damage to a treat. So turning his walk into a run, he found himself coming to a halt as a shot rang out rather nearby amongst the area of bushes and such, Martyn figuring this to be the person Jill had been screaming about.

So turning away from the warehouse, he trudge through the growth until he came up, almost rather tripped onto, another male as his foot caught something. Sure enough a pistol in the smaller boy’s hands, Martyn gulping and raising his own in shaky hands this would be the first time if ever pointed a gun and another person.

“Oi, drop the bloody gun and no one ‘ill get ‘urt ‘ere, alright?” The Scotsman muttered out in much of a demanding voice as he could summon up at that time, sighing a little in the end, what if the kid turned the gun on him?

Could he fire?

Could he kill someone?

The raven-haired girl froze as a gunshot rang out from the bushes, obviously aimed in her direction. Instead, the bullet implanted itself into the wall a few feet from her. Gritting her teeth tightly, Luca struggled to keep her balance atop the area on which she was standing. Her icy stare scowered the wooded area below her as she searched intently for the individual who had fired at her. Had it been Jill Gatling, the girl whose shoulder she had sunk a bullet into only moments before?

Motion coming toward the warehouse caught Luca's eye almost immediately. There was someone there, and they were running. Focusing in on the figure, she pointed the pistol at it and fired several rounds in irritation. Obviously, her aim was far from perfect, but she was hoping to at least hit the target, because someone down there was armed. Perhaps it was a mistake to attack someone who seemed to be alone. Luca silently scolded herself for her impatience.

After firing the final gunshot, Luca took off in as much of a run as she could pull off to the other side of the warehouse roof, hoping to climb down from that side instead. Surely, she could pick off at least a few of them, then maybe escape and recuperate. At least, that was the plan. Coming to the end of her ledge, Luca began climbing down, still staying high enough up to have a vantage point on her targets below.

Meanwhile, in the undergrowth surrounding the warehouse, Jill had remained hidden since she had retreated. She clutched her shoulder in sheer agony, hissing through her teeth. Her white overshirt, as well as her hand, were now a deep crimson in color from her own blood. She crouched down as low to the ground as she could, but nearly toppled over when the gunshot rang out from a few yards from where she was hiding.

If they were not in a mess before, now, they most assuredly were. She had completely lost sight of Martyn, Jack, or the Michael boy that had been in their company at the waterfall. In fact, she did not know whether any of them had actually followed en suite or not. However, she did know that someone very near her had a gun, and was apparently firing at Luca Donovan.

The newcomer could have been Martyn. After all, he did have a gun. Rather than risk calling out to see, however, Jill simply remained hidden. She was in agony, and blood seemed to ooze from her shoulder. While part of her was thankful that the bullet had not embedded itself into her arm, the fact that it had torn through all that muscle and tissue seemed much, much worse. Ducking down as more gunshots echoed overhead, she watched as Luca ran across the roof, silently wondering what was going to happen now that a gunfight seemed to have ensued.

As Gilbert was (unsurprisingly, because shit like that JUST seemed to be how his luck was going) tripped over by a running figure, he had to assume that his shot had probably missed, and the girl had probably seen him.

Well this is it...so long, Gilbert, you've had a good run...well, not really, but...

Shaking himself out of his doom-inducing haze, he suddenly realized that if Luca had seen him after all, she likely wouldn't have tripped over him. His luck and temporary happiness came to a screetching halt as the boy (whose face Gilbert only had time to glimpse at as he pulled himself to his feet) aimed his gun directly at Gilbert's face, ordering him (in an odd accent, he noticed) to drop the gun. Of course, Gilbert really didn't give a shit as to what the guy was saying, for he had a pistol pointed directly in his face.

Ordinarily, most people who had just fired a gun at someone and had a gun pointed at themselves would likely point their own gun at the attacker. However, Gilbert wasn't excactly an ordinary kid, and the gunshot he'd fired had likely missed by a mile. Of course, he had to assume that most of the shots he'd ever take likely would miss, and so as the gun was pointed at him, Gilbert dropped it as though it'd become scorching hot, and raised his arms in the air, the blood rushing from his face as he looked down the barrel of the gun.

"P-please don't kill me..." he whispered as he began to tremble.

You idiot, you pathetic loser...you're whining like a little girl. What would your mother say if she saw you like this?

No sooner than the thought had crossed Gilbert's head, when he realized one very crucial thing.

It's not going to matter what mom thinks if I'm dead, because then she can think whatever she wants to...I won't be around to care!

I am so fucked!

Martyn blinked a blink as the boy seemed to give up rather quickly, which surprised him because if this had been the person attacking Jill he would have thought the other would have but up some kind of fight. But as he stood there with the barrel of his weapon pointed at the face of the smaller boy, a flash of something across the top of the warehouse caught his attention. He turning to try and see the figure, he was blinking even more.

Dropping his aim as something clicked, that girl this guy had been pointing at and had just run across hadn't been Jill... so, there was only two things then that girl had been helping Jill, or that had been the attacked herself.

Dropping on the ground against his knees he turned to face the boy he had just been pointing a gun at, “Bloody ‘ell…” He muttered, sighing somewhat. “You weren’t the one attackin' Jill where 'ya?” He said, unsure if the kid even knew who he was talking about, but picking himself up somewhat glanced about trying to see the girl.

“I ‘eard my friend scream about someone with a gun, when I came across ‘ya that’s what I figured… that is was 'ya. But I’m ‘ighly doubtin' that now.” Martyn said, not seeing Jill and ducking back down again. “'Ya where pointin' at someone else… the person doin' the attacking I’m guessin'?

And… I… um, if that’s the case. Sorry ‘bout that, I reacted before I thought, it's really a 'orrid 'abit of mine.”

"It's...it's okay..." Gilbert stammered, obviously shaken up and not so okay from having the gun pointed in his face. Blinking, though, he pointed to the roof, and frowned.

"Your friend, I think...I think she got shot, and that other girl up there...that's Luca Donovan..."

Gilbert took a look at Martyn and then realized that in all likelihood, he had no idea who she was.

"She's a, uh...she's not very nice, at school...not at all...and she's trying to kill your friend...I shot back at her but I think I missed. I'm not, not very good with a gun...I'm REALLY not cut out for this..."

Shakily, Jill forced herself to her feet. The pain from her shoulder was simply incredible, like nothing she had ever felt before. Despite that, Jill tried to ignore the pain. The girl on the rooftop seemed to be coming down, and in all reality, it was highly unlikely that she would simply run away once she did. No, the name of the game was kill or be killed, and it appeared that Luca Donovan had set in her mind to do just that.

If Luca was going to attack again either way, Jill decided to beat her to the punch. After gripping the tree beside her for a moment to regain her stability, Jill grabbed her daypack by the strap and drug it behind her through the trees. Hastily, she made her way through the trees, around to the other side of the warehouse. Once she arrived at the other side, she again stowed herself away in the bushes. By now, she could see Luca making her way down from the top of the warehouse.

Reaching into her daypack, Jill finally removed the weapon she had been issued something like two days ago that she had never taken a second glance at. Lady luck, please be on my side. After removing the clunky object, Jill stared vacantly at it. A nailgun. A fucking nailgun. You've got to be kidding me. Groaning under her breath, Jill continued to watch as Luca had nearly reached the bottom of the warehouse. Well... at least I've still got the element of surprise on my side. Maybe I can scare her off... or hold her off... or... or something.

As Luca finally dropped down from her current point, Jill braced herself, then dived toward the other girl. Luca yelped in surprise as a body slammed into her, effectively knocking her to the ground. Jill managed to deck the girl in the face once before Luca began fighting back. Going right for Jill's bloodied shoulder, Luca dug her nails into it in an awkward maneuver. Jill shrieked from the pain and rolled to the side, effectively rolling off of Luca. It took Luca only a moment to stand up and revamp herself. Taking a dive for the gun she had dropped, she fired repeatedly, though her aim was terribly off course from her maneuver.

The first bullet lodged itself somewhere in Jill's thigh, while the other two missed entirely. Blood began oozing out from the newly inflicted wound, turning her jeans a dark crimson color in that spot. Luca hopped back on her feet as Jill froze from the new gunshot wound. In an almost primal move, Luca once again lunged at Jill, knocking her back onto the ground. In the process, Luca's gun flew from her hand, landing a few feet away.

By now, Jill had come back to her senses and as she fell to the ground, unleashed a few more punches on Luca. Luca was taken aback by the assault, but did not relent. Instead, she straddled herself around Jill and proceeded to try and choke her. For a few moments, Jill was unable to do anything as her windpipe was cut off from oxygen. In almost a rage, she effectively flung the girl off of her and onto the ground. The two rolled across the grass, one trying to get an advantage over the other, until the shiny metallic gleam of the gun she had dropped caught Luca's eye.

Immediately, she reached for it and pointed it at Jill. In the same instant, Jill grabbed her wrist, trying to force the gun away from her. Primal instinct took over at that point, and Jill landed another blow to Luca, this time smashing her nose with her fist. Luca dropped the gun, howling in pain, and Jill promptly picked it up. Almost before she realized what she was doing, she fired.

Luca Donovan's thoughts promptly ceased as the bullet tore through her forehead at point blank range, sending brain matter and blood all over both herself and Jill. In sheer terror at what she had just done, Jill dropped the gun and jumped off the corpse. Hot tears began streaming down her face as a harsh reality dawned upon her. Oh my God, I just... I just killed her. Oh God...

Falling to her knees, halfway in pain, halfway in sheer horror, Jill continued to stare at the corpse of the girl lying on the ground next to her, stunned by the fact that she had taken the life of another. When Martyn, Jack, and Michael showed up... if they showed up... what would they think of her now? Now, she was just like all the others on the island. A killer.

He watched the other boy likely as he talk, nodding a bit though couldn’t help the grin that passed over his features at his comment about how he wasn’t cut out fun of this. “Truth be told, I really don’t think any of us are cut out for this kind of thing ‘ere.” Martyn muttered lightly, working himself up onto his feet. Brushing along his knees at the dirt sticking to the cream colored uniformed pants, though as he did this a shriek torn through the air he turning toward the sound with a rush of panic for his friend.

Not even bothering to give the other male a second glance he moved quickly from the area of undergrowth that they where amongst and begun toward the location where the scream had sounded from. Hoping that whatever was happening would not turn into anything worse before he could reach where she was. Though as he turned another corner of the warehouse a somewhat familiar sound halted him in his steps…

The gunshot had torn through the silence that had came over the area after the scream, and besides the ringing left in his ears from the shot there was nothing else that followed after the gunshot. Clutching tightly against the pistol in his hand, he pushed forward forcing himself to walk forward as the sight of the two girls came into view though what he saw wasn’t what he had expected.

The other girl, Luca was it… was no doubt dead. The blood and brain matter splattered about the area around her form was a clear sign of that, glancing off to the dead girl’s side he looked lightly at where Jill was kneeling. Gulping a bit, he stepped up a bit closer to the other girl, tilting his head a bit. "… Jill?”

When the shot rang out, Gilbert had to admit that he was scared even moreso than he already was. Luca was an ice-cold bitch, that much he knew, and hopefully this other boy would be equipped to deal with her, after she'd probably disposed of the girl she'd shot before. As Martyn stood up and began to walk towards the area that he'd heard the shot, Gilbert was surprised to hear him murmur something, and surprisingly, it didn't seem like it was an obscenity, but rather...a name.

Peeking over the bush, Gilbert's eyes went wide as he saw the sprawled out, obviously dead form of the girl who'd bullied him in school for this past year. To say that he felt a sense of relief would have been an understatement, but immediately therafter, he felt a pang of guilt.

I'm glad she's dead? What kind of human being does that make me?

Slowly pulling himself to his feet, grabbing the pistol that he'd dropped quickly when Martyn had his pointed at him, he slowly walked towards where Martyn was now somewhat close to the other girl, standing near her. He said nothing, but waited, just to see what the shaken-up, wounded, but definitely alive girl would do.

OOC: He's assumedly traveling with the group (after all, that's what you do with a group), but as long as you don't godmod it I doubt there's any problem.

(OOC: Dropping Michael in with the group won't affect me any, being as Jill JUST NOW realized that Martyn had shown up at the warehouse. Shouldn't affect Riser or Dodd much either, I don't think. Shouldn't be much of a problem.)

"She's dead..."

She spat out the words almost accusingly, all the while trying to convince herself internally that she had done the right thing. In all actuality, if she had not killed Luca, she would be the one lying on the ground lifeless at this very moment. Due to a turn of events, she had come out of the ordeal with her life, but at what price? She had never liked Luca Donovan in high school, she had always been, well... a bitch. However, to kill someone, in cold blood... a fleeting second before, it would have been an almost unthinkable act. And now, just like most of the forty or so students still left on the island, Jill had bloodied her hands in this cruel and inhumane game.

"What was I supposed to have done?"

The inquiry was made to no one in particular, as she was only half conscious of the small group that had formed around herself and the body whose life she had just ended. In the end, Jill, who had managed to remain passive for the seven or so days that she had been trapped on this island, was finally forced to succumb to the brutal game they had been thrown into. Believing that you could get out of something such as this with your innocence in tact was a foolhardy thing at best, but it was something Jill had clung onto up until this point. Now... now all of that was out the window.

Forcing herself to her feet slowly, she cast a wary glance toward the students in her company, shaking her head quietly. As opposed to the first body she had seen not long ago, which had practically sent her into convulsions, this was much, much worse. However, her reaction was much more different. Such a flood of angst and agony overflowed the girl that she was unable to express her feelings toward the entire situation. Maybe it was better that way. She stood on the other side of the body, facing in the direction of her companions, simply shaking her head quietly.

It's like a curse. A bad dream. It's just like a cheesy horror movie or something, where you know what's going to happen to all the characters and you're desperately screaming at them to run away but it doesn't work. They can't hear you, and even if they could, there's nothing they can do. They can't... they can't save themselves. I can't save myself. My fate. Everyone else's fate. It's all the same. I thought I could cling onto hope, but now... what will they think of me now? I can't do this alone...

The thoughts were coherent, but came out somewhat scattered. Obviously she was shaken up, perhaps somewhat disillusioned. The harsh reality of this game had not fully set in when she had seen Amanda Jones and Madelaine Shirohara slaughtered at the river. How, things were beginning to set in, to take shape in Jill's mind. Continuing to stare down at the corpse rather than at her allies, she saw the gun. The ill-fated black object had helped her to take the life of another student.

Only half thinking, she simply kicked the object and watched as it skidded across the grass and came to a halt not far away from where she was standing. Any other student would have probably dove for the gun. To them, it signified protection. But, Jill saw the cursed thing for what it really was. Simply another tool for murder. She herself had just proven that much. Biting her lower lip, she hung her head in silence, almost expecting a reeming from her company for the actions she had just taken.

"You can't tell me you wouldn't have done the same thing if it were you, if you thought you were going to die..."

((Continued from: ?? ?? ??? ??))

He didn't know how it had happened, but he had fallen behind. He had stopped breifly with Michael to pay his respects to Aaron (whose corpse they passed on the way), and lost sight of the group. When he heard gunshots and shouting, he had ran all the way to where the group was now, leaving Michael behind slightly. His face was now flushed and his dyed white hair looked gray with all the sweat. Stopping to take a breath, he was surprised at what he saw. Martyn and Jill were standing near the corpse of Luca Donovan (a rich bitch of a girl Jack, to be frank, wouldn't have minded killing himself), Jull looking bloody as they spoke to a boy he recognised as Gilbert Archambault (though he didn't really know him).

"Goddamn...what the hell happened here?"

OOC: Continued from Cat and Mouse
IC: The trek to the warehouse had not taken as long as Jason thought, partially due to him finding a shortcut branching off from the main path. Taking another turn, he started to hear voices, including that of Jack O'Connor, one of his teammates (and one of the few alive on the island). Moving into a bush, he watched the group, picking up his uzi just in case.

First I wait, then I attack. The one with the element of surprise is usually the one who wins such fights.

Gilbert raised the pistol and absentmindedly scratched the back of his head with the stock of the gun. He'd seen far too many corpses on this island, and while he didn't really think that he was in much of a position to just outright start explaining everything, he managed to stammer out a small response.

"She, uh...she killed her..."

Sure, it wasn't the kind of response that Jack probably wanted to hear, but it was the only one that he could even think to say at the time. Gilbert's hands were shaking, and he hadn't realized that it was so until he lowered the gun from having scratched his head with it, and the weapon actually discharged into the surrounding foliage. Startled, Gilbert jumped in surprise, looking guiltily at the people with him.

"I, uh...sorry...I didn't know how...how much my hands were shaking, I guess..." Trying to settle himself down, he put the gun into his pocket and thrust both hands into his pockets, trying quite hard to stop the fear from completely setting in.
