George Hunter High School

Built in the early 2010s to reduce overflow in the existing central high and also show that public schools can match the area's private schools in quality. George Hunter High is a modern construction located in the northeast Birchwood area that boasts many high quality facilities spread out over a collection of buildings on its campus. It primarily takes its students from a nearby gated community and urban development and any transfer students are only accepted during the freshman year as the school is still assessing what is the best size for its student population. As such a foreign exchange program is under consideration but has yet to be implemented. The school colors are green with black and white accents and its mascot is Hunter the Horned Owl.

  • Athletics Building
The largest of the three buildings that make up George Hunter High, the athletics building is a sleek metal and glass construction with a roof that is designed to be reminiscent of an air current. The inside is far less fanciful and trends towards being much more functional, with straight sign posted corridors that lead to all the facilities inside. There are three separate sets of changing rooms in the athletics building, one each for indoor, outdoor and water based activities.

  • Main Building
The first of the three buildings that make up George Hunter High, the main school building is a large modern glass construction that contains the academic departments. The interior of the building contains one large corridor system shaped like an I with the two sets of departments at the top and bottom. The English and computer labs are at the bottom while the science labs and math department are at the top. These two sets are separated by a long corridor that has the cafeteria on one side and the library on the other.

  • Art Block
The art block of George Hunter High is the smallest building on the campus, a square, two-story building with a colonial facade. The foyer features a large blank space of wall that runs up the entire building and routinely displays pieces of artwork produced by the students at the school, while a PA plays recordings of students music projects. The building has one large staircase in the foyer that leads up to the art rooms while a main corridor leads to the auditorium, which branches off into the two music rooms, studio space, and the drama room.
